Lutie ‘Alice’ Schenkel
Lutie “Alice” Schenkel, 87, died at 6:10 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 5, 2000) at Miller’s Merry Manor where she was a resident.
Mrs. Schenkel was a production worker at E-Systems, Memcor Division, for 25 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of St. Peter’s First United Church of Christ and was a past member of American Legion Post 7 and Huntington Moose Lodge 837, both of Huntington.
She was born May 16, 1912, in Fleming County, Ky., to Frank Arnold and Amanda Prather Arnold. She married Paul Schenkel Oct. 11, 1950, in Huntington. Her husband died in 1953.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John (Frances) Myers, Huntington, and Mrs. Evelyn Disel, Bethel, Ohio; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ray Franklin Moore; a grandson; and three brothers, Lloyd Arnold, Russell Arnold and Archibold Arnold.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s First United Church of Christ Cemetery
with Rev. Jonathan Heaslet officiating.
Preferred memorials are to the Miller’s Merry Manor Activity Department, 1500 Grant St., Huntington, IN 46750.
Betty M. Hanauer
Betty Maxine Hanauer, 76, Mesa, Ariz., died Jan. 26, 2000.
Mrs. Hanauer was a homemaker. She and her husband had farmed and were former residents of Huntington and Wabash counties.
She was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Cleveland Township, Whitley County.
Survivors include her husband, Dean Hanauer; a son, Randy Hanauer, Waxhaw, N.C.; a daughter, Gloria Muehlbauer, Gilbert, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
A brother, Lloyd Warner, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. MST Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Central Christian Church Chapel, Mesa.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to LHS Hospice in memory of Betty Hanauer, 1325 N. Fiesta Blvd., Suite 1, Gilbert, AZ 85233.
Gladys T. Putterbaugh
Gladys T. Putterbaugh, 89, formerly of Markle, died Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren.
Mrs. Putterbaugh taught in several Huntington County schools, including Andrews Elementary and Huntington North High School, for 30 years, retiring from the Huntington County Community School Corporation in 1971. She had also taught at several schools in Ohio. She was a member of the Markle United Methodist Church. She graduated from Xenia High School, Xenia, Ohio, in 1927 and from the Miami Jacobs Business College, Dayton, Ohio.
She was born July 2, 1910, in Green County, Ohio, to Clinton Beal and Dessie Taylor Beal. She married Marvin "Putt" Putterbaugh Aug. 17, 1940, in Xenia, Ohio. Her husband died in 1979.
She is survived by a sister, Francis Downing, Xenia, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Clinton Putterbaugh; and a sister, Velda McClain.
Calling will be held from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday at the Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel, 415 N. Lee St., Markle. Rev. Tim Dilley will officiate.
Burial will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Tip City, Ohio, on Monday, Feb. 7.

Ruth C. Dailey
Ruth Charlene Dailey, 69, Wolcottville, died Tuesday (Feb. 1, 2000) at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Dailey was a production supervisor at Monsanto for 20 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Gasper’s Catholic Church, Wolcottville. She had been a resident of Huntington from 1930-63, Albion from 1963-94 and Wolcottville since 1994.
She was born Sept. 18, 1930, in Huntington, to Edward Krumanaker and Anna Ludwig Krumanaker. She married Jimmy R. Dailey Sept. 27, 1952, in Huntington. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include her stepmother, Julianna Krumanaker, Huntington; three daughters, Charlene F. Dailey, Wolf Lake, Noble County, Laura L. Hursey, Ligonier, and Anna M. Allen, Hamilton; two sons, William R. Dailey, Albion, and James E. Dailey, Cecil, Ohio; two sisters, Betty Schere, Huntington, and Dorothy Droze, Marshfield, Wis.; a brother, Paul “Bud” Krumanaker, Durand, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Krumanaker and Billy Krumanaker; and two sisters, Mary Ballard and Rose Elliot.
Calling is from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, with rosary service at 7:30 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Albion. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Dale Bauman officiating.
Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion.
Preferred memorials are to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ligonier.

Marjorie L. Goff
Marjorie L. Goff, 94, a resident of Miller’s Merry Manor, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) at Huntington Memorial Hospital. She was a former resident of 540 Cline St.
Mrs. Goff had worked at the Schacht Rubber Co. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
She was born Jan. 6, 1906, in Middletown to Howard Walling and Fannie Reedy Walling. Her first marriage was to Kenneth C. Forney, who preceded her in death. Her second marriage was to Walter Goff. He also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Donald Forney, Huntington; a daughter, Patricia Sparks, Phoenix; a sister, Elizabeth, of Anderson; two brothers, Dennis Reedy and Howard Reedy Jr., both of Middletown; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Calling is from 8 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service Saturday at Hart Funeral Home. Rev. Allen Goebbert will officiate.
Burial will be at Star of Hope Cemetery.
John B. Kay, M.D.
John Boyd Kay, M.D., 57, 1445N Etna Road, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Kay, along with Drs. Barth Wheeler and R.B. Peare, was co-founder on June 11, 1973, of what is now Family Practice Associates. He served as chief of staff at Huntington Memorial Hospital in 1974, 1985-86 and also from 1997-99. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Practice, the Dean’s Council at the Indiana University Medical Center, and the Purdue Alumni Association.
He graduated from Klondike High School near West Lafayette in 1960, received a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1964, and graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1967. He served his residency at the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, from 1967-70. He served in the Navy from 1970-73 with a rank of lieutenant commander and was stationed in Hawaii. He was an Eagle Scout and a Boy Scout leader.
He was born Dec. 16, 1942, in Huntington, to William Jamieson Kay and Wilma Jean Eviston Kay. His parents survive, in West Lafayette. He married the former Sharon Elkins on Aug. 16, 1964, in Dayton, Ind. His wife survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. John (Susannah) Slavich, Columbia City, Hannelore Kay, Greenwood, and Anneliese Kay, West Lafayette; four sons, P. Jamieson Kay, M.D., and Joshua Boyd Kay, both of Indianapolis, John Damien “Jed” Kay, Cincinnati, and William Aaron Kay, West Lafayette; three grandsons; and a sister, Mrs. Gerry (Laurie) Eckart, Corydon.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Boyd Eviston, M.D., in 1985.
Calling is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Steven Ailes officiating.
Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to the Obstetrics Unit at the new Huntington Memorial Hospital, 1215 Etna Ave., Huntington, IN 46750, or to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 530 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Evelyn M. ‘Sue’ Myers
Evelyn Maxine “Sue” Myers, 68, a resident of Goose Lake in rural Columbia City, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. She had been admitted to the hospital Jan. 20.
Mrs. Myers was employed in the business office at Huntington College for 25 years. She was a member of the West Point Trinity United Methodist Church near Columbia City, the Friendly Neighbors Ladies Aid of the church, and the Lakeview Club. She was a graduate of Warren High School.
She was born Jan. 6, 1932, in Warren, to Leo Bardsley and Miriam Hite Bardsley. She married William H. Myers March 17, 1951. They moved from Warren to Huntington in 1956. They began spending summers at Goose Lake in 1965, making it their permanent home in 1980. Mr. Myers died Sept. 27, 1999.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. James E. (Jena Sue) Morris, Huntington, and Sonna Jane Myers, Columbia City; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and two brothers, Bruce Bardsley, Markle, and Max Bardsley, Bluffton.
A brother, James M. Bardsley, preceded her in death.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 207 N. Main St., Columbia City, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with Pastors Karen Biddle and Orlo Hibbs. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Warren.
Preferred memorials are to the West Point Trinity United Methodist Church.
