Rev. Ruth Ann Bailey

Rev. Ruth Ann Bailey, 44, Warren, died at 7:34 p.m. Friday (Aug. 4, 2000) at home.

She was ordained by the American Baptist Churches, USA Monroe Association, Rochester, N.Y. on Nov. 22, 1987. She was a pastoral counselor and member of the First Baptist Church in Warren and a pastoral counselor at First United Methodist Church of Bluffton. She had worked as a pastoral psychotherapist, intake and clinical coordinator and newsletter editor at Samaritan Institute Pastoral Counseling Center in Winnetka, Ill.; as a training coordinator of ElderCare Program at Chicago Catholic Women; as a graduate assistant in the doctor of ministry program at Colgate Rochester Divinity School/Bexley Hall/Crozier Theological Seminary in Rochester, N.Y.; as an assistant minister at Greece Baptist Church in Rochester, where she had also been a field education student; and a social worker at Senior Citizen Day Care Center in Hamtramck, Mich.

She was a doctoral candidate in the doctor of philosophy program at the Institute for Clinical Social Work in Chicago, did course work in the master of theological studies in pastoral psychology program at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill., earned a master of theology degree from Colgate Rochester Divinity School/Bexley Hall/Crozer Theological Seminary, a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Eastern College, St. Davids, Pa., was a Christian education major at Huntington College and a 1974 graduate of Huntington North High School.

She was born Feb. 29, 1956, a daughter of Wade E. and Anna E. Riddile Bailey. Her mother survives in Warren.

Survivors also include a sister, Janet Sue Smith of Bluffton.

Calling is from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Glancy Funeral Homes H. Brown & Son Chapel, Warren, where service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday with Pastor Kathie Jones officiating.

Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Warren.

A memorial celebration is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, at the United Church of Christ in Warren.

Carline E. Bartlett

Carline E. Bartlett, 74, 850 Woodlawn Ave., died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 5, 2000) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Bartlett, a former resident of Fayetteville, Tenn., was retired from MagneTek. She was a member of the South Broadway Church of Christ.

She was born June 16, 1926, in Lincoln County, Tennessee, a daughter of John Simmons and Minnie Norris Simmons. She married Henry Bartlett Jan. 20, 1950, in Lewisburg, Tenn.; her husband died Jan. 12, 1993.

Survivors include a son, Danny Bartlett, Huntington; a daughter, Mrs. David (Mary) Getman, Huntington; two brothers, Leon Wayne Simmons and William Riley Simmons, both of Huntington; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Simmons; a sister, Leah May Heath; and six half-brothers and four half-sisters.

Calling is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Minister Charles Gamble will officiate. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Catherine A. Bolinger

Catherine Alber Bolinger, 90, a resident of Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth, died at the home at 6:20 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 6, 2000).

Mrs. Bolinger had previously lived in Wabash and in Argos, moving to Plymouth in 1993. She was a graduate of Huntington High School.

She had been employed as a deputy clerk for the Huntington Circuit Court and had served as clerk secretary to Huntington Mayor Roy Howell. She had also worked as clerk secretary in the Wabash County Plan Commission. She was a member of the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ, Wabash, and had been affiliated with the Walnut Church of the Brethren near Argos.

She was born Feb. 12, 1910, in Huntington, a daughter of Peter and Gertrude Lengel. Her first marriage was in Wabash in September 1949 to Harold Alber, who died in December 1966. Her second marriage was on Nov. 20, 1971, in Wabash to Oliver Earl Bolinger, who died Nov. 23, 1993.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Mrs. Roy (Esther) Reed, Plymouth, and Doris Kingsafer, South Bend; a stepson, Edward Bolinger, Wheaton, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Cecil (Elizabeth) Young, Fort Wayne; 10 stepgrandchildren and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Holley; a stepson, Ora Bolinger; and a stepgrandson.

Calling is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Pastor Tony Schneiders will officiate. Burial will be at the Walnut Church of the Brethren Cemetery, near Argos.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Walnut Church of the Brethren Women’s Fellowship.

Skyler D. Bragg

Skyler Douglas Bragg, 3 months, 611 Mayne St., died Monday morning (Aug. 7, 2000) at his home.

He was born April 17, 2000, in Huntington, a son of Douglas E. and Carolyn M. Young Bragg. His parents survive.

Additional survivors include a sister, Erika M. Bragg, at home; his grandparents, Doug and Pam Bragg, Huntington, Vicki Bragg of Portland, and Barbara Spencer of Huntington; and his great-grandparents, Roy Motter of Portland, Ines Motter of Portland, and Joseph and Marie Ingram of Ellenton, Fla.

Calling is 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Gerald O. Moreland will officiate. Burial will be at the Saratoga Cemetery, Saratoga, Ind.

Marie C. Buzzard

Maria Catherine Buzzard, 97, formerly of 445 George St., died at Norwood Nursing Center on Sunday (Aug. 6, 2000) at 6:20 p.m.

Mrs. Buzzard was born on March 22, 1903 in Huntington to Arwell and Lena Friedman Kennedy. She was a homemaker and member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Rosary Sodality and the Erie-Lackawanna Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Mrs. Buzzard married Paul E. Buzzard on Sept. 3, 1931 in Huntington; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Gene Buzzard, Fort Wayne; one daughter, Patti Souers, Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Eldon, John, Paul and Ray Kennedy; and four sisters, Ethel Street, Helen Miller, Sister M. Doretta, OSF, and Mildred Walter.

Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hart Funeral Home, with Rosary recited at 6:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Cathiloc Church, with Rev. Gary Sigler officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to St. Mary Catholic Church.

Becky Jo Campbell

Becky Jo Pulley Campbell, 48, 7920N-900W, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 5, 2000) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

She worked as a shipping coordinator at Majestic Corp., attended Huntington North High School and earned an associate degree from Indiana Technical Institute of Technologies. She was a member of the Indiana Indian Movement and Moose Lodge 255 of Huntington and attended St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bippus.

She was born Dec. 27, 1951 in Wabash County, a daughter of Harold Eugene and Mary Anna Maley Pulley, who survive.

Survivors also include three sons, Jeffrey Scott Snyder and Jarod Edward Snyder of Huntington and Jason Erin Snyder of Amboy; a brother, Robert Harold Pulley of Laramie, Wyo.; three sisters, Brenda Sue Mount of Huntington, Betty Kendall of Bippus, and Barbara Ann Pulley of Buffalo, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Bailey-Love Mortuary, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday with Rev. Kenneth Maley and Stan Williams officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Etna Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society in care of Marilyn Rittenhouse, 503 Keswick Dr., Huntington, IN 46750 or Huntington County Baseball care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington, IN 46750.

Barbara A. Converse

Barbara A. Converse, 63, 514S-400W, died at 7 a.m. Friday (Aug. 4, 2000) at her home.

Mrs. Converse was the owner of the Metea Cafe from 1993-95. She was also employed by Memcor for 20 years and had most recently been assistant manager of Ponderosa Restaurant.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Andrews.

She was born Feb. 8, 1937, in Huntington, to Ralph and Mary Louise Burns Hunnicutt. Her marriage was July 6, 1954, in Wabash, to Marvin J. Converse. He survives.

Also surviving are a son, Donald E. Converse, Austin, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Lois A.) Buss, Mentone, Mrs. Russell (Deborah S.) Stallings, Andrews, and Mrs. Blaine (Teresa L.) Kaylor and Kellee J. Converse, both of Huntington; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Hunnicutt Jr., Andrews; and a sister, Joann Oppy, Andrews.

Calling is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bailey-Love Mortuary, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Don Harman and Rev. David Gruber. Burial will be at a later date.

Preferred memorials are to the American Diabetes. Association, 7363 E. 21st St., Indianapolis, IN 46219.

Alva Gilbert

Alva Gilbert, 85, a resident of the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday (Aug. 4, 2000) at the home.

Mr. Gilbert, a former resident of Andrews, moved to the Methodist Home 10 years ago. He was retired from RCA in Marion and had also farmed in Polk Township. He served in the Coast Guard as a barber and police dog trainer from 1945 to 1948. He attended Banquo Community School and was a member of the RCa Sympathy Club.

He was born June 21, 1915 in Huntington County, a son of John W. Gilbert and Edith Russell Gilbert. He married Thelma Watts oct. 22, 1938, in Anderson; his wife survives in LaFontaine.

Additional survivors include a brother, Chester Gilbert, Tuscon, Ariz.; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Gilbert; a son, larry Gilbert; three sisters and three brothers.

Calling is 7-8 p.m. Monday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. brown and Son Chapel, Warren, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. John Bellante will officiate. Entombment will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Memorial Home, 801 Huntington Ave., Warren IN 46792.

Jesse R. Schaffer

Jesse Raymond Schaffer, 82, Lagro, died at 10:15 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 5, 2000) at Wabash Healthcare Center, Wabash.

Mr. Schaffer farmed for 55 years before retiring. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Lagro American Legion the 40 & 8, and the Wabash Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was born May 8, 1918 in Lantis, Iowa, a son of Jesse R. Schaffer and Maggie Pearl Mosier Schaffer. He married Bernice Yocum July 25, 1942, in Huntington; his wife died Sept. 20, 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Lou Boggs, lagro; a brother, William Schaffer, Huntington; three sisters, Mrs. Irvin (Darlene) Sell, Mrs. Gene (Dorothy) Hoover, and Betty Pulley, all of Huntington; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Two sons and a sister are deceased.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Grandstaff Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel, 1177 Manchester Ave., Wabash, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Robert Pefley will officiate. Burial will be at the Lagro Cemetery.
