Jack D. Simon
Jack D. Simon, 67, 344 Center St., died at 4:05 a.m. Thursday (July 27, 2000) at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Simon had been employed as a service manager. His most recent employment was with Werner Car Company, Huntington.
He was born Sept. 6, 1932, in Huntington County to Harold and Evelyn Neuer Simon. He graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1950. He married Ellen "Aline" Schnitz Aug. 25, 1950. His wife survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Timothy Simon, Celina, Ohio, and Dan Simon, Huntertown; two daughters, Linda Phillips, Andrews, and Mrs. Gary (Pamela) Burris, Huntington; three sisters, Mrs. Art (Carolyn) Ehinger, Decatur, Mrs. Leonard (Janet) Scher, Huntington, and Mrs. Harold (Judy) Mowery, Crestwood, Ky.; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Simon, and a brother, Jerry Simon.
Calling will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Paul Hirschy will officiate.
Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Willadene M. Brighton
Willadene Mardell Brighton, 73, Columbus, Ind., died at 2 a.m. Sunday (July 23, 2000) at her home.
Mrs. Brighton, a former resident of Huntington, was retired from Columbus Regional Hospital, where she had worked as a registered nurse from 1952 until 1979. She graduated from the Methodist School of Nursing, Fort Wayne, in 1947 and had been a member of the American Nurses Association since 1956.
She was a 1944 graduate of Huntington High School and was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Columbus, where she was a member of the First Lutheran Church Women and a former member of the United Church Women. She was a member of the Embroiderers Guild of America and had been active in the Girl Scouts, Sweet Adelines, and Modern Homemakers.
She was born Oct. 7, 1948, in Huntington County, a daughter of George Richard and Laura Elizabeth Click Pasko. She married Walter Arthur Brighton May 22, 1948, in Huntington; her husband died Feb. 9, 1998.
Survivors include a son, James Michael Brighton of Woodbridge, Va.; two daughters, Jean Ellen Groebe of Sturgis, Mich., and Patricia Ann Toney of Richmond; two brothers, Edwin O. Pasko of Shirley and Elmer G. Pasko of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Wilma J. Largent of Angola; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, two infant brothers, and an infant daughter.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel, 3729 25th St., Columbus, Ind., and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church in Columbus. Services will be held at the church at 11 a.m. Saturday, with Rev. D. James Kuchera officiating. Burial will be at the Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Hospice of Bartholomew County or the First Lutheran Church music fund.
Bette Rickert
Bette Rickert, 74, 13 Northway Dr., died at her home at 9:55 a.m. Sunday (July 23, 2000) after an extended illness.
Mrs. Rickert retired in 1986 as co-owner of the Rickert Studio, which she owned with her husband, Robert. She began working in photography in 1944 as a photo-colorist at Photo-Reflex Studio in Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta, Ga. Later, she was a photo retoucher and manager of Allied Retouchers in Atlanta, Ga., for three years. She worked as receptionist, colorist and business manager for Rickert Studio, Huntington, starting in 1949. She was a member of the Professional Photographers of America and the Professional Photographers of Indiana, where she served as a coloring competition judge and also won various awards. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Psi Iota Xi, both of Huntington.
She was born June 27, 1926, in Atlanta, Ga., to Louie G. and Iris Rowden Wilson. She graduated from high school in Atlanta, Ga. She married Robert L. Rickert Aug. 14, 1949, in Huntington. Her husband survives.
Also surviving are a son, Mark W. Rickert, Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Janice L. Rickert, Bloomington, and Beth Rickert-Kinsey, Fort Wayne; and two granddaughters.
A brother, Louie G. Wilson Jr., preceded her in death.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Lawrence VanVactor-Lee will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Louise C. Franz
Louise C. Franz, 91, died at 2:30 p.m. Friday (July 21, 2000) at United Methodist Memorial Home, Warren, where she had lived since Sept. 5, 1979.
Mrs. Franz was formerly employed at the United Methodist Memorial Home as a seamstress. She came to the Warren area from Jackson, Tenn.
She was born Feb. 3, 1909 in Franklin, Tenn., to A.R. and Gertrude Anderson Castleman. Her marriage was March 26, 1942 in Waukesha, Wis., to John J. Frantz. He died June 26, 1978.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Steffenauer, Leonia, N.J.; and a niece, Pat Darty, Jacksonville, Fla.
There will be no calling hours. Private burial will take place at a later date in Springhill Cemetery, Warren.

George E. Miller
George E. Miller, 81, 8647N-100W, died at 10 a.m. Friday (July 21, 2000) at his home.
Mr. Miller was a life dairy farmer in Huntington County. He also worked at Shacht Rubber and The Majestic Company in Huntington. He was a 1937 graduate of Clear Creek High School. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the National Farmers Union and the Sheriff’s Association. He was president of the Indiana Brown Swiss Cattle Association and was a Huntington County 4-H leader for 15 years.
He was born Nov. 22, 1913 in Huntington to Floyd M. and Dessie Fern Shafer Miller. His marriage was Oct. 13, 1941 in Huntington to the former Mary L. Leist. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Gary Miller, South Whitley and Larry Miller, Huntington; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Calling is from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, with reciting of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Father Ron Rieder officiating.
Interment will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to either the Huntington or Wells County Home Health Care.
Opal J. Johnston
Opal Jeanette Johnston, 78, Andrews, died at 8:02 a.m. Sunday (July 23, 2000) at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Johnston, a former resident of East State Street, worked at Huntington Memorial Hospital as a nurse aide and inhalation therapist from 1959 to 1976. She also babysat for many Huntington-area children. She was a member of New Hope United Brethren Church and had been active in the Horace Mann School P.T.A., serving as past president.
She was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Huntington, the daughter of Thomas I. and Lucy Lahr Koontz. She married Charles Edward Johnston July 6, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio; her husband died in 1979.
Survivors include two sons, Charles E. Johnston and James J. Johnston, both of Huntington; three daughters, Janeth Rose Young Therkelsen of Fort Wayne, Marium D. Schmitt of Pierceton, and Bonnie L. Walker of Andrews; a sister, Imogene Canfield of Payne, Ohio; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Dean Koontz, and two grandchildren.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope United Brethren Church, 2001 Engle St., where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Dr. Kent Maxwell will officiate.
Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Patricia N. Saalfrank
Patricia N. Saalfrank, 54, rural Ossian, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday (July 22, 2000) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Saalfrank was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Ossian. She was a homemaker.
She was born Dec. 15, 1945, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Harold Hoffman and Vera Malcolm. She married David A. Saalfrank Oct. 22, 1966; her husband survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Karla Manes, rural Andrews; a son, Randy Saalfrank, Bluffton; three sisters, Jeanette Bauermeister, Ossian, Sylvia Voroil, LaOtto, and Carol Sprague,. Inglis, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Elzey and Haggard Funeral Home, Ossian, and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Ossian. Services will be held at the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with Rev. William R. Brege officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church flower and building fund or the Wells County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Donna J. Weimer
Donna J. Weimer, 72, Valley View Estates, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday (July 21, 2000) at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Weimer was an aide for 10 years at Warren United Methodist Home, Warren.
She was born Feb. 10, 1928 to Andrew and Hazel Benson Voris.
Survivors include four daughters, Beverly Soper, Joni Soper, Debra Fishbaugh, and Mrs. Jay (Jill) Williamson, all of Huntington; a sister, Doris Bolinger, Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Lois Voris and Lorene Large, preceded in death.
There are no calling hours. Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Etna Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Bendes officiating.
