Iva F. Benson
Iva F. Benson, 82, Plymouth, died at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at the Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth.
Mrs. Benson had been a Marshall County resident since 1955. She was active in church missionary groups and with the Marshall County Historical Museum.
She was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Huntington, to Isaac and Lulu Coe Wamsley. Her marriage was June 14, 1936, to Glenn Benson. He died on Dec. 2, 1985.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Terry (Sarah) Bagley and Mrs. Victor (Rose) Vargas, both of Plymouth, and Sue Redhawk, Battle Creek, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Glenn Benson Jr. and Richard D. Benson, as well as one grandchild, one great-grandchild and three sisters.
Calling is one hour prior to the funeral service, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth. Rev. Robert Vardaman will officiate.
Burial will be at the New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Preferred memorials are to Baptist Children’s Home.
Geraldine ‘Gerie’ Day
Geraldine “Gerie” Day, 89, died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at the Community Care Center, Huntington. She had been a resident of the center since March 8, 1999.
Mrs. Day was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She had worked in the Huntington County Courthouse for many years, serving as deputy clerk in the Huntington County Clerk’s office for part of that time.
She was born Dec. 18, 1911, in Huntington to Denman H. and Grace Blanche Snyder Emley. She graduated from Huntington Township High School in 1930. She married Cyril L. Day Sept. 25, 1932. Her husband died July 6, 1982.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Janet) Heaston, Huntington; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a sister, Mrs. Don (Betty Couch) Hagenbuch, Warren.
A sister, Alberta Hosier, preceded her in death.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hart Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Bob Schmeiser will officiate. Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Roger L. Plew
Roger L. Plew, 77, of rural Columbia City, died at 7:48 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at Whitley Memorial Hospital, Columbia City.
Mr. Plew established the Plew Tool Company in Columbia City in 1947. He sold the tool company to Dana-Weatherhead in 1961 and then held management positions with Essex International and United Technologies. He served as president of the Components Division of United Technologies from 1980-88, and then became the chief executive officer and president of the company’s Sheller-Globe Subsidiary in Dearborn, Mich., from 1988-91. He retired in 1991.
He was a 56-year member of the Pierceton Lodge, F. and A. M., and the Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne. He was a charter member and past president of the Whitley County Shrine Club, and served as Past Exalted Ruler of Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1417 in Columbia City. He served on the board of directors for the Customer Service Corporation — REMC, the Whitley County Hospital Foundation, and the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.
He served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II. He met his wife while serving in Warrenton, Va.
He was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Pierceton, to Granville and Beatrice Hill Plew. He married Lois V. Clark in Cumberland, Md.. His wife survives.
Also surviving are a son, Randolph Lee Plew, Columbia City; two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Sharon) Wilcoxson and Tamara Plew, both of Columbia City; a brother, Bertis Leon Plew, North Webster; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A sister, Delores Plew, preceded him in death.
There will be no calling hours or services. Private family services will be held at a later date.
Preferred memorials are to the Shrine Children’s Hospital, or Camp Whitley in care of the Whitley County Community Foundation.
The DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, is in charge of arrangements.
Mark Scheiber
Mark Scheiber, 60, 527 Henry St., died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at his home.
Mr. Scheiber was a shoe salesman. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689. He served in the Navy for four years, serving on the USS Constellation.
He was born Jan. 8, 1941, in Huntington, to Lawrence and Eileen Driscoll Scheiber.
Survivors include a sister, Delores “Dee” Burnworth, Huntington, and a brother, Wayne Scheiber, Huntington.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Larry E. Scheiber, Richard A. Scheiber and David Scheiber.
Calling is 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m., at the Hart Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 840 Cherry St., with Father Ron Rieder officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Gladys N. Young
Gladys N. Young, 86, a former resident of Roanoke, died at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at the Norwood Nursing Center.
Mrs. Young attended Roanoke Brethren Church. She graduated from Roanoke High School in 1932.
She was born May 21, 1914, in Huntington, to William A. and Lillie Shroyer Schoeff. She married Arthur H. Young in Huntington County on Jan. 19, 1934. Her husband died Oct. 3, 1998.
Survivors include a son, Hanson L. Young, Huntington; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Schoeff, and two sisters, Helen Johnson and Vera Caley.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Ron Burns will officiate. Burial will be at the Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.

Thomas L. MacDonald
Thomas Lee MacDonald, 54, 844 Division St., died at 9:13 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at the Northeast Indiana Kidney Center, Fort Wayne.
Mr. MacDonald, a former resident of North Manchester, had been employed as a driver for Holland Trucking Company, Fort Wayne, for three years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Huntington Eagles Lodge 823.
He was born July 22, 1946, in Huntington, a son of Major and Jarie Marseillet MacDonald. His mother survives in North Manchester.
He married Janice A. Worthen on June 1, 1968, in Huntington. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Michael Lee MacDonald, Fort Wayne, and Brian David MacDonald, Andrews; a daughter, Mrs. Jon (Heather) Leidig, Huntington; a brother, Richard MacDonald, North Manchester; and seven grandchildren.
Calling is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel. Father Gary Sigler will conduct a vigil wake service at 6 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father Sigler officiating.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Andrews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Huntington County Right to Life in care of the funeral home.
Orval Shroyer
Orval Shroyer, 90, died Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) at Riverbend Health Care Center in Fort Wayne.
He was owner and operator of the Shroyer Flagstone Company.
He was born in Roanoke, to Charles and Pearl Hoover Shroyer. His wife, Florence A. Shroyer, is deceased.
Survivors include a daughter, Esther E. Robertson, Fort Wayne; a sister, Bertha Vendrick, Huntington; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Three brothers and a sister are deceased.
Calling is from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at D.O. McComb & Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, 6301 Fairfield Ave., Fort Wayne, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
