Celia Ruble

Celia Ruble, 91, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 3, 2001) at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, where she was a resident.

Mrs. Ruble was retired from the United Methodist Memorial Home where she had worked as a secretary for 30 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Warren, and Las Amigas Bridge Club. She was an associate member of the Gamma Epsilon chapter of Tri Kappa.

She was born Sept. 23, 1909, in Huntington County to Adolphus and Carrie Whitehurst Taylor. She graduated from Warren High School, Warren, in 1927. She married Alfred L. Ruble in Huntington on May 29, 1928. Her husband died Nov. 2, 2000.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Brauchla, Warren; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Vora Losure and Gladys McClarnon and Garnet Wiley; a brother, Paul Taylor; and three grandchildren.

Calling is 4-8 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Memorial Home, 801 Huntington Ave., Warren, where funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Herschel Dyer and John Bellante will officiate. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Warren.

Preferred memorials are to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 3554 Wells St., Fort Wayne, IN 46808.

The Glancy Funeral Homes, Butler Chapel, 131 N. Wayne St., Warren, is in charge of arrangements.

Grace E. Smith

Grace Elizabeth Smith, of Springfield Township, Hamilton County, Ohio, died Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Western Hills Campus, Cincinnati. She was a former resident of Huntington.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with calling held prior to services beginning at 9 a.m., at the Paul R. Young Funeral Home, 7345 Hamilton Ave., Mt. Healthy, Ohio.

John F. Brown

John Frederick Brown, 55, died Jan. 18, 2001, at his home in Castro Valley, Calif.

Mr. Brown was a partner in Santa’s Workshop, a year-round Christmas shop on Pier 39 in San Francisco.

He was born Oct. 28, 1945, in Huntington to Buren W. and Thelma Pinkerton Brown. His father died Oct. 31, 2000. His mother survives and lives in Pinehurst, N.C.

He is also survived by a brother, Jeffrey W. Brown, St. Louis, Mo.

A memorial service was held Jan. 25 at the Notre Dame Des Victoires Church in San Francisco with Father Philip D’Auly officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Preferred memorials are to the Diabetes. Foundation or the American Heart Association.

The Evergreen Mortuary of the McAvoy-O’Hara Co., San Francisco, was in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Yeiter Fallon

Ethel Yeiter Fallon, 93, 436 Henry St., died at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) at her home.

Mrs. Fallon had worked at Kitchen Maid for three years and Essex Wire in Andrews for 17 years.

She was born Nov. 16, 1907, in Stoughton, Saskatchewan, Canada, to John R. and Ellen L. Peschinski Vaughn. Her first marriage was to Walter Yeiter on May 3, 1925, in Hamilton, N.D. He died in 1951. Her second marriage was to David Fallon on March 21, 1969, in Fort Wayne. He died in 1976.

Survivors include a son, Walter Yeiter, Huntington; a daughter, Mrs. John (Sharry) Miller, Huntington; three sisters, Ruby Crosby, North Dakota, Bertha Slingler, Illinois, Elsie Miller, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Yeiter and Robert Yeiter; two daughters, Grace Ludwig and Marigold Bartrom; three sisters, Eva Hornbaker, Laura Trimborn and Ruth Moore; and a grandson.

Calling is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Al Soultz will officiate. Burial will be at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Donald E. Hedrick

Donald E. Hedrick, 70, Carmel, a native of Banquo, died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at St. Vincent Hospital.

Mr. Hedrick had held several positions in education. He was an associate professor at Ball State University from 1969 to 1989, and was a professor of philosophy and economics at DePauw University in Greencastle in 1967 and 1968. Other positions included a period as the assistant executive director of the Indiana School Board Association, 1965-67; superintendent of schools in Greencastle, 1962-65; principal of a high school in Rush County, 1960-62; and a business teacher and basketball coach in Rush County from 1958-60. He was also a business owner and developer from 1970 to the present time.

He was a member of the Indianapolis Athletic Club and the Mt. Etna Masonic Lodge and was a former member of the Gobin United Methodist Church in Greencastle. He graduated from Banquo High School in 1948 and the U.S. Air Force Cryptographic and Code School in 1957. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 1958 and a master’s degree in 1962, both from Ball State University, and earned a Ph.D. from the Indiana University School of Finance and Business Administration in 1967. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, from Oct. 23, 1953, to Oct. 27, 1958.

He was born Dec. 11, 1930, in Banquo to John David and Ada D. Hedrick. He married Miriam A. Parks, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, David E. Hedrick, Greenlawn, N.Y., and Douglas William Hedrick and Daniel A. Hedrick, both of Indianapolis; a daughter, Diane Hedrick Cullen, Georgetown; two sisters, Evelyn J. Thompson and Betty J. Hedrick, both of Huntington; and six grandsons.

Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the East 91st Christian Church, 6049 E. 91st St., Indianapolis, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. John Price will officiate. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

Preferred memorials are to the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, c/o Dr. Jason Koutcher Research, 1275 York Ave., New York, NY 10021.

Pauline D. Kidd

Pauline D. Kidd, 73, 8675W-800N, Bippus, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 27, 2001) at the Manatee Memorial Hospital in Florida.

Mrs. Kidd was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bippus and a former member of the North Highlands Presbyterian Church in Fort Wayne. She was also a member of the Bippus Parade Committee, the Bippus Home Economics Club, and the Huntington Garden Club.

She was born July 6, 1927, in Wheeling, W.Va., to Bernard and Geraldine White Delbrugge. She married Malcolm H. Kidd on Aug. 29, 1948, in Wheeling, W.Va. Her husband survives.

Also surviving are a son, Thomas M. Kidd, Indianapolis; two daughters, Mrs. William (Lorna) Stephan, Huntington, and Mrs. Phillip (Marcia) Douglass, Bluffton; a sister, Marion Kidd, Florida; and 10 grandchildren.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Bippus, with Rev. Larry Holderbaum and Rev. Stan Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery, Bippus.

Preferred memorials are to St. John’s United Church of Christ, c/o Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Walter G. Stults

Walter Glenn Stults, 93, died at midnight Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at the Norwood Nursing Center, where he was a resident. He was a former resident of Arroyo Grande, Calif.

Mr. Stults had been self-employed and had owned a number of businesses in California. He was active in ranching and politics. He was a disabled Army war veteran, serving as an infantry officer during World War II. Prior to joining the Army, he had been employed in the Metropolitan newspaper business.

He was born Oct. 5, 1907, in Huntington to Ernest and Sarah Myrtle Roach Stults. His first marriage was to Eugenia Hillman in 1944. She died in 1966. His second marriage was to Florence March in 1970. She died in 1988.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Glenna Jean “Gee Gee”) Mainini, San Miguel, Calif., and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Arline Wiedenhoeft, and three brothers, Kenneth Stults, Harold Stults and Raymond Stults.

Calling will be from 1 p.m. until the 2:30 p.m. funeral service Saturday at the Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel. Father Ron Rieder will officiate. Burial will be at the Clear Creek Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the Salvation Army in care of the Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 338 E. Washington St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Mitch D. Tackitt

Mitch D. Tackitt, 39, of South Whitley, was pronounced dead at 11:46 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at Whitley Memorial Hospital, Columbia City, after suddenly becoming ill at his home.

Mr. Tackitt was employed by Superior Precision, South Whitley. He had formerly been employed at Tackitt Painting in Fort Myers, Fla.

He was born July 21, 1961, in Columbia City to Larry D. and Linda J. Dimmick Tackitt. His parents survive and live in South Whitley. He grew up in South Whitley and graduated from Whitko High School. He married Pam R. Kinsey on Sept. 16, 1989. They lived in South Whitley for several years, moving to Fort Myers, Fla., for one year, and then returning to South Whitley in June of 2000. Mr. Tackitt’s wife survives.

Also surviving are four children, Courtney Gawthrop, Jeremiah Gawthrop, Caley Tackitt and Jenna Tackitt, all at home; a brother, Steven Tackitt, Fort Myers, Fla.; and his grandmother, Alma Dimmick, South Whitley.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Miller Chapel of the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, South Whitley, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Barry Faucett will officiate. Burial will be at the South Whitley Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the Caley and Jenna Tackitt Educational Fund, in care of the Miller Chapel of the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 208 N. Maple St., South Whitley, IN 46787.

Douglas Alan Street

Douglas Alan Street, 36, Marion, died at 2:15 p.m, Friday (March 30, 2001) at his home.

Mr. Street was a laborer at Foremost Dairies in Texas. He was a former Huntington resident.

He was born Sept. 23, 1964, in Huntington, to Richard E. and Catherine M. Harris Street. His parents survive; they both reside in Huntington.

Other survivors include four brothers, Bruce R. Street, Huntington, Billy F. Street, Seattle, Wash., Michael Lee Street, Warren, and Brian W. Street, Markle; and two sisters, Susan Hatala, Warsaw, and Patricia L. Archbold, Huntington.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Allen Street and Steven Vincent Street.

There will be no calling. Graveside services will be held at noon Wednesday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, with Father Gary Sigler officiating.

Preferred memorials are to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Hart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
