Dorman Baker Sr.

Dorman Baker Sr., 72, 566 Sherman St., died at 6:41 p.m. Sunday (April 29, 2001) at the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Baker, a lifetime resident of Huntington, retired from the Kmart Distribution Center in Fort Wayne in 1992. He was a member of the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Huntington.

He was born May 26, 1928, in Huntington to John and Minnie Mote Baker. He married Blanche Couch, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Dorman Baker Jr., Huntington, and David A. Baker, Toledo, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Glenna) Endsley, Huntington, Mrs. Craig (Laura) McNeal, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. John (Kim) Freeman, Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Max Baker, William Baker, Lee Baker, James Baker and Charles Baker; three sisters, Christina Lindsey, Hazel Uhl and Mary Vollmar; and a granddaughter.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Richard Fredericks will officiate.

Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Andrews.

Preferred memorials are to the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington, IN 46750.

Elsie D. Hansen

Elsie D. Hansen, 81, 495 Thomas Rd., died at 6:38 p.m. Wednesday (April 25, 2001) at Huntington Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Hansen was the founder of New Life Sanctuary in Huntington, a home for young unwed mothers, which she was still operating at the time of her death. She was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Huntington and had been a self-employed beautician for many years.

She was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Queens, N.Y., a daughter of John and Martha Passe Haug. She married Albert C. Hansen May 7, 1943, in Queens, N.Y.; her husband died in August 1975.

Survivors include two sons, Craig J. Hansen and Richard W. Hansen, both of Huntington; two daughters, Joy Goetz Kinsey and Gay Iannuccilli, both of Huntington; 14 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Trebing, and a great-grandchild.

Calling was Saturday at Myers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Assembly of God Church, 1640 E. Taylor St., with Pastor Karl Fleig officiating.

Burial will be at Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Life Sanctuary in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington IN 46750.

Mrs. Hansen’s obituary is being rerun to correct an error in the original, which appeared in Friday’s Herald-Press.

Dr. William C. Fitzpatrick

Dr. William Cecil Fitzpatrick, 84, a resident of the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, died at the home at 7:50 p.m. Friday (April 27, 2001.

Dr. Fitzpatrick had been a dentist in Elwood, retiring in 1980 and moving to the Methodist Home in 1993. He had served as Pipe Creek Township Trustee in Elwood and was instrumental in the construction of Frankton High School.

He graduated from Elwood High School in 1935 and Indiana University in 1940. He received his doctorate in dentistry from Indiana University and served in the Army Dental Corps from 1943 to 1946.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Clubs in Elwood and North Webster, the church choir at the United Methodist Memorial Home, and the Indiana University Alumni and a life member of the Indiana Dental Society. He formerly attended the First United Methodist Church in North Webster and was a member of the Warren United Methodist Church.

He was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Stearns, Ky. He married Patricia Conwell Aug. 5, 1939, in Elwood; his wife survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Sue A.) Henderson, Columbus; two sons, William H. Fitzpatrick, Anamosa, Iowa, and John K. Fitzpatrick, Albion; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A brother, Robert H. Fitzpatrick, is deceased.

Calling is 6-8 p.m. Monday and 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Memorial Home, Warren, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officiating ministers are Rev. Charles Elam, Rev. John Pattison, Rev. John Bellante, and Rev. Mike Beall.

Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery, Warren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Memorial Home Choir Music Fund; the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 4204, South Bend IN 46634; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown and Son Chapel, Warren, is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara A. Metz

Barbara Ann Metz, 68, Marion, died at 12:01 a.m. Monday (April 30, 2001) at Marion General Hospital.

Mrs. Metz, a resident of Marion since 1985, was the co-owner of The Fabulous 105. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, and a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Marion.

She was born Dec. 1, 1932, in Peru, a daughter of William Henry and Flossie Marie Dingman Wood. She married James J. Metz on Sept. 4, 1960. He survives.

Additional survivors include five sons, Michael Charles of Grand Rapids, Mich., James Metz and Kevin J. Metz, both of Kokomo, Robert B. Metz of Franklin, Tenn., and Jerome W. Metz of Marion; two sisters, Ann Wright and Mary Thompson, both of Marion; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Calling is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Father Ron Rieder officiating. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Ruth E. Davidson

Ruth Elizabeth Davidson, 81, 25 Quayle Run, died at 1:54 p.m. Monday (April 30, 2001) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Davidson retired as office manager at Sealtest. She was a member of St. Peter’s First United Church of Christ. She was a member of the consistory and president of the board at the church.

She was born July 19, 1919, in Huntington, to George and Irene Fouchee Andrews. She married John Duncan Davidson in August 1942 in Huntington. He died Jan. 11, 1967.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Ann) Yager, Houston, Texas; a son, John Davidson, Dallas, Texas; a sister, Jackie Vollmar, San Bernardino, Calif.; two brothers, Jim Andrews, Livonia, Mich., and Paul Andrews, Huntington; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s First United Church of Christ, 206 Etna Ave. Rev. Jonathan Heaslet officiated.

Private burial will be at a later date.

Hart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ronald D. Hile

Ronald D. Hile, 91, Columbia City, died at 5:30 p.m. Monday (April 30, 2001) at his home.

Mr. Hile retired in 1972 as a tool machinist with the General Electric Company, Fort Wayne, after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Columbia City United Methodist Church and the General Electric Quarter Century Club.

He was born July 6, 1909, in Smith Township, Whitley County, to Thurlo Cleveland and Effie Mae Madison Hile. He graduated from South Whitley High School. He married the former Mary O. Beachler on Oct. 21, 1933, at the Fort Wayne United Brethren Church. She died April 14, 1991.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen Hile, Poteau, Okla., and Brian R. Hile, Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. Thomas M. (Cleo) Rody, Fort Wayne, Mrs. George (Naomi) Weeks, Columbia City, and Mrs. Keith (Lenna) Collins, Huntington; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Pulley; a sister, Yvonne Jean Hile Betzner; two brothers, Harold B. Hile and Max Hile; a stepsister, Claudia Dipert; and a grandson.

Calling is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m Wednesday at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday. Pastor Berneice Herr will officiate.

Burial will be at South Park Annex Cemetery, Columbia City.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Darwin W. Whitted

Darwin W. Whitted, 74, rural Huntington, died Tuesday morning (May 1, 2001) at the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.

Mr. Whitted was a production manager for H.K. Porter in Huntington, where he had worked for 34 years. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bippus. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason with Lodge 483 of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was also a member of the York Rite and Floral Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Huntington, and Mizpah Temple and Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne.

He was born March 31, 1927, in Huntington, to David E. and Anna Gertrude Sparks Whitted. He married Suzanne Stookey Dec. 16, 1964; his wife survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Gary Whitted, Houston, Tex., Bryan Whitted, Huntington, and Lon Whitted, Huntington; a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Lynette) Dowden, Huntington; a brother, Dexter Whitted, Fort Wayne; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hart Funeral Home. Private burial will be at the Markle Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to either the Shriners Children’s Hospital or Riley Children’s Hospital, in care of the Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington IN 46750.
