John Eldon Dunnuck
John Eldon Dunnuck, 63, of Cumberland Furnace, Tenn., died Monday (May 7, 2001).
Mr. Dunnuck, an electrical technician and retired veteran of the United States Air Force, was born in Huntington on June 25, 1937 to Thomas and Shirley Finley Dunnuck. He married Shirley Emley of Cumberland Furnace, who survives.
Also surviving are five brothers, Jim Dunnuck, Columbia City, Ed Dunnuck, Markle, Roger Dunnuck, Bluffton, and Paul and Denny Dunnuck, both of Ossian; three sons, John P. Dunnuck, Huntington, James. J. Dunnuck, Reno, Nev., and Shane Worster, Las Vegas, Nev.; one daughter, Malisa Johnson, Tennessee Ridge, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.
Calling is from 4:30-8 p.m. Thursday and 8-11 a.m. Friday at the Nave Funeral Chapel in Erin, Tenn, with funeral services to follow. Rev. Ernie Arnold will officiate.
Burial with military services will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery
in Erin.
Alyce Jean Penrod
Alyce Jean Penrod, 68, North Manchester, died at 12:57 a.m. Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at her residence.
Mrs. Penrod was a registered nurse and assistant director of nursing at Wabash County Hospital for 36 years. She was a member of the North Manchester Bible Church, and a member and past president of the Indiana Federation of Arts Clubs in Indianapolis. She was also a past president of the former Country Women’s Club, a former member of the Wabash County Chorus, and past president of the Wabash Art Guild. She was a 1951 graduate of South Whitley High School, and a 1955 graduate of Methodist Hospital in the Indianapolis School of Nursing.
She was born Feb. 10, 1933 in Whitley County to Dale and Mary Helen Sherer Parker. Her marriage was Feb. 26, 1955, in Rolla, Mo., to John Lee Penrod. He survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Mark Penrod, David Penrod, and Tom Penrod, all of North Manchester; four daughters, Mrs. Thom (Ruth) Reed, and Mrs. Virgil (Violet) Ozenbaugh, both of North Manchester, Mrs. Ted (Roberta) Nichols, McComb, Ohio, and Mrs. Rick (Jean) Sims, Columbia City; a half-brother, Jim Haneline, Bluffton; a half-sister, Peggy Iholtz, North Manchester; and 27 grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main St., North Manchester. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Ted Nichols and Larry Burkholder officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Hospital Foundation, Manchester Bible Church, or Wabash-Miami Home Healthcare and Hospice.
Joel E. Underwood
Joel E. Underwood, 52, of 220 Columbia St., died at 4 p.m. Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Underwood was a project engineer at National Tube Form, Fort Wayne. He graduated from the University of Southern Florida, Tampa, and from Huntington College in 1978.
He was born on Feb. 2, 1949, in Fort Wayne, to Maxwell E. and Loretta Kunberger Underwood. His mother survives in Venice, Fla. His father is deceased.
Survivors include two daughters, Nikki Underwood, Leander, Texas, and Mrs. Gary (Michelle) Arnett, Andrews; one son, Michael E. Underwood, Huntington; and eight grandchildren.
He also is survived by his fiance Maryln Myers, Huntington.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Newfield.
Calling will be Monday from 1 until the 3 p.m. funeral service at Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, with Rev. Bob Osenbaugh officiating.
Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Huntington.
Rose L. Shearrer
Rose L. Shearrer, 52, 333 S. Main St., Andrews, died at 8 a.m. Thursday (May 10, 2001) at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Shearrer was employed at the Coupled Products Division of Dana Corp. in Andrews. She was a member of Bethesda Freewill Baptist Church, Andrews.
She was born May 6, 1949 in High Hat, Ky. to Calvin and Mae Reynolds Howell. Her mother survives in Andrews. Her first marriage was to Paul Lamprecht Jr.; they later divorced. On July 7, 1995 in Andrews she married T. Hugh Shearrer, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Sherri Umbaugh of Greenwood; a son, Jeff Lamprecht of Huntington; two brothers, Doffie Howell and Dana Howell, both of Andrews; three sisters, Sue Crunk and Saundra Garretson of Andrews, and Janet Howell of Huntington; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Andrews Chapel, and one hour before the noon service Monday at Bethesda Freewill Baptist Church, 116 S. Main St., Andrews. Rev. Rollo Blair will officiate.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery
in Andrews.
Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society or the Epilepsy Foundation of America.
Robert S. Hacker
Robert S. Hacker, 78, 500 Terrel St., Andrews, died at 2:53 p.m. Thursday (May 10, 2001) at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Hacker retired from the Indiana State Highway Department, where he had worked for 27 years, and had also farmed.
He was active in the Huntington County Democrat Party. He was a member of the Andrews Lions Club and had held the office of president as well as all other club offices. As a former basketball player at Monument City High School, he was inducted into the Huntington County Basketball Hall of Fame.
He was born May 22, 1922, in Monument City, a son of John Hacker and Eva Woods Hacker. He married Wilma Deane Snyder Dec. 31, 1948, in Andrews; his wife survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Steven Hacker and Randall Hacker, both of Huntington; a daughter, Mrs. Ron (Julie Ann) Humbert, Indianapolis; a sister, Lola Lee, Huntington; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dale Hacker, Dean Hacker, Glenn Hacker, and Kenneth Hacker.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Andrews.

Ernest L. ‘Charlie’ Beall
Ernest L. “Charlie” Beall, 74, Logansport, died at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday (May 9, 2001).
Mr. Beall retired in 1981 as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was born June 28, 1926, in Logansport, a son of Everett E. Beall and Dorothy A. Grandstaff Beall. He married Mildred Bishop July 31, 1976, in Royal Center; his wife survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, Rev. Michael Beall of Warren, Greg Beall of Logansport, and Brian Beall of Sitka, Alaska; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Larry (Judith Kay) Skiles, Logansport; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Kroeger Funeral Home, 711 E. Market St., Logansport, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Michael Beall will officiate.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Logansport.

Leo D. McClain
Leo D. McClain, 66, Belfast, Tenn., died at 8 p.m. Saturday (May 12, 2001) at his daughter’s home in Warren.
Mr. McClain was a retired driver and operator for Summit City Trucking, Fort Wayne, where he had worked for many years. He was a former reserve officer with the Warren Police Department. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He lived most of his life in the Montpelier and Warren areas before moving to Tennessee six years ago.
He was born Sept. 17, 1934, in Trenton to Dewey Leo and Maymie L. Bricker McClain. He attended Trenton School and Montpelier High School. He married Janice McClain, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include four sons, Randy McClain, Brian McClain and Shawn McClain, all of Warren, and Terry McClain of Lewisburg, Tenn., ; two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Tammy) McNany and Mrs. Dan (Barbie) Stroud, both of Warren; a sister, Mrs. Floyd (Betty) Sills of Montpelier; five brothers, James E. McClain of Orland, Douglas W. McClain of Hartford City, Adelma R. McClain, Keith A. McClain and Truman J. McClain, all of Montpelier; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A former wife, Doris Smith Hiner, lives in Warren.
A brother, Norman McClain, preceded him in death.
Calling will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel, 203 N. Matilda St., Warren. Pastor Kathie Jones will officiate.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Prospect Cemetery
in Elkton, Tenn.
Raymond J. Hesting
Raymond John Hesting, 89, Howell, Mich., died Saturday (May 12, 2001) at his home.
Mr. Hesting was a retired millwright with J&L Steel. He was a member of United Steel Workers Chapter 1357; the First United Methodist Church, Howell; the Methodist Men’s Club; and a life member of the National Rifle Association, Wildlife Forever, and the North American Hunting Club.
He had been a resident of Howell for the past 12 years and spent summers at Lake Chemung, Mich., since 1959.
He was born May 4, 1912 in Huntington to Joseph Henry and Elizabeth Teusch Hesting. He married Doris Shockey in Angola on Dec. 5, 1936. His wife died April 29, 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dick (Diana) Grucz, Howell, Mich.; two sisters, Donna Drerup, Huntington, and Marietta Hesting, White Cloud, Mich.; a brother, Hank Waynn, Kissimee, Fla.; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday (EDT) at the First United Methodist Church, 1230 Bower St., Howell, with Rev. Charles Jacobs officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Howell.
