Louisa M. Rummel

Louisa M. Rummel, 79, a resident of the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, died at the home at 5 a.m. Friday (Nov. 9, 2001).

Mrs. Rummel, a former resident of Greenwood, moved to Warren in August 2000. She was a 1939 graduate of Anderson High School and had worked as an airline reservation clerk for Eastern Airlines, retiring in 1984.

She was born Jan. 14, 1922, in Anderson, to Thomas Peter Marianos and Mamie Lucille Lorraine Marianos. She married Paul J. Rummel April 1, 1958, in Biloxi, Miss.; her husband survives.

Additional survivors include a brother, Ward Marianos, Plymouth, Mich.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas L. Marianos and Walter Marianos.

Calling will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Memorial Home, Warren, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Herbert Edwards officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson.

The Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown and Son Chapel, Warren, is in charge of arrangements.

Carola A. Fiedler

Carola A. Fiedler, 95, a resident of Norwood Nursing Center, died at the home at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001).

Mrs. Fiedler was a homemaker and attended the First Brethren Church in Huntington. She had lived in Andrews from 1959 to 1979, moving there from New York, and later lived on Greenmeadow Lane in Huntington.

She was born Nov. 11, 1905, in Frankenthal, Germany, a daughter of George Becker and Anna Rhein Becker. She married George Fiedler in New York; her husband died in 1959.

A brother, George Becker, is deceased.

Calling is noon-2 p.m. Saturday at Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Pastor Dianna Park will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Andrews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Help INC in care of Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, 338 E. Washington St., Huntington IN 46750.

Paul M. Vergon

Paul Meredith Vergon, 86, a resident of northern California, died at 12:15 p.m. Monday (Sept. 17, 2001) at the home of his son in Spanaway, Wash..

Mr. Vergon was a construction contractor and worked in residential construction.

He was born April 16, 1915, in Huntington to Harold H. Vergon and Gertrude A. Forst Vergon.

Survivors include a son, Terry R. Vergon, Spanaway, Wash.; a daughter, Lynne L. Davidson, Henderson, Nev.; a sister, Martha Jean Pflieger, Huntington; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight A. Vergon, and a sister, Vera A. Vergon.

No calling was held and there was a private family service. Mr. Vergon was cremated.

Arrangements were by the Oakwood Hill Funeral Home, Spanaway, Wash.

Ralph R. Highley

Ralph R. Highley, 93, 1844W-1000S, Warren, died at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2001) at the United Methodist Memorial Home, Warren, where he resided since November 2000.

Mr. Highley was a farmer in Jefferson Township and had attended Jefferson Township School.

He was born on Aug. 6, 1908, in Grant County, to Carl C. Highley and Nina Walker Highley. On Aug. 6, 1931, in Hartford City, he married Opal E. Shelton. She is deceased.

Survivors include a son, Clarence Highley, Warren; a daughter, Mrs. James (Agatha) Miller; two sisters, Freida Banter, Florida, and Opal Hardin, Warren; and a brother-in-law, Floyd Shelton, Hartford City.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Highley, and one granddaughter.

Calling will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown and Son Chapel, Warren, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Rev. John Wallace will officiate.

Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Warren.

Virgil F. Jones

Virgil F. Jones, 86, Roanoke, died at 9:10 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001) at St. Joseph Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Jones was a self-employed farmer in Roanoke. He did soil testing for many years in Indiana and Michigan. After retiring from farming in 1979, he became an avid wood worker. He was a founding member of the Broadway Church of Christ in Huntington. He spent winters in Sarasota, Fla., for the past several years.

He was born Nov. 1, 1914, in Fort Wayne to Dee O. and Addie Jones. He graduated from Lafayette Center High School, Allen County, in 1931. He married Helen M. Caley. They were married for more than 50 years. His wife preceded him in death in 1992.

Survivors include a daughter, Julie Dunning, Ann Arbor, Mich.; a grandson and three great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Bess Caley, of Roanoke.

Calling is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Charles Gamble will officiate.

Interment will be at the Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.

Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society, in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Harold ‘Abe’ Gearhart

Harold “Abe” Gearhart, 71, 1181 Bechtol St., died at 6 a.m. Friday (Oct. 12, 2001) at his home.

Mr. Gearhart retired after 23 years with Local 20 Sheet Metal Workers Union in Fort Wayne. He had previously worked nine years as a foreman for H. K. Porter of Huntington. He was a lifetime resident of Huntington and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689. He had served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Huntington to Dean and Marie Carpenter Gearhart. He married Alma J. Ebert in Huntington on Feb. 17, 1951. His wife survives.

Survivors include a son, Dan Gearhart, Huntington; a brother, Everett Gearhart, Huntington; two sisters, Joann DeHaven and Mrs. Joe (Arvetta) Lewis, both of Huntington; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Gearhart; a sister, Leora Sparks; and a half brother, Harvey Kline.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Rev. Richard Bunnell will officiate.

military graveside rites at Mt. Hope Cemetery will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689.

Preferred memorials are to Home Health Care and Hospice, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington, IN 46750.

David L. Jones

David L. Jones, 57, Ossian, died at 1:35 p.m. Friday (Oct. 12, 2001) at the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.

Mr. Jones, a 1962 graduate of Warren High School, had been employed by Wickes Lumber in Fort Wayne as a sales coordinator since 1999. He had previously worked as a bus driver for the Fort Wayne Community Schools.

He was a member of Calvary Temple in Fort Wayne, serving as a deacon, an usher, and a Sunday school teacher. He was also active in the church’s van ministry and Kid’s Club.

He was born Jan. 23, 1944, in Huntington County, a son of Roger and Maxine Herr Jones. His mother survives in Warren. He married Sharon Cramer April 23, 1967, in Warren; his wife survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Kevin Jones, Fort Wayne; a daughter, Andrea Jones, Fort Wayne; and two brothers, Gary Jones and Keith Jones, both of Warren.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday at Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel, and from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Temple, 1400 W. Washington Blvd., Fort Wayne. Services will be held at the church at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Rev. Don Wirgau will officiate.

Burial will be at the Markle Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Temple.

Margaret J. Henline

Margaret J. Henline, 61, 1648 Grant St., died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 18, 2001) at Oaklawn Hospital, Marshall, Mich.

Mrs. Henline was the former co-owner of Don Henline Towing and Garage in Huntington from 1972-2001. Prior to that, she had worked at Baxter’s Restaurant and Hunckler’s Pik-A-Nut, both in Huntington. She attended the Salvation Army.

She was born May 18, 1940, in Huntington to Ira Daniel and Ruth May Nunemaker Walters. She was a lifetime resident of Huntington. She married Donald D. Henline in Huntington on Dec. 14, 1958. Her husband survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Judy) Snider, Huntington; a son, Jerry Henline, Warsaw; four brothers, Eugene Walters, Milford, Kansas, Ronald Walters, Marion, Terry Walters, Fort Wayne, and Gary Walters, of Texas; three sisters, Mrs. John (Florence) Crago, Warren, Pauline Wilkerson, Bluffton, and Mrs. William (Helen) Simmons, Huntington; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Jason Walters, Donald Walters, Robert Walters, Jerry Walters, Wayne Walters and Jack Walters; and three sisters, Beatrice Reichley, Rosemary Walters and Geraldine Stephens.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. Captain Tim Wilson will officiate.

Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Home Health Care & Hospice or to the donor’s choice, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington, IN 46750.
