Claude Derosett

Claude Derosett, 64, Jonesboro, died at 10 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 15, 2001) at his home.

Mr. Derosett was employed as an engineer with Thomson Multimedia (RCA), Marion, for 37 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of American Legion Post 95, Jonesboro, where he served as financial officer for 21 years and was the former bar manager. He was also a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 253, Marion.

He was born May 30, 1937, in Cynthiana, Ky., to Odis and Stella Margaret Browning Derosett.

Survivors include two sisters, Barbara George, Marion, and Pam Derosett, Huntington; two brothers, Darrell Derosett, Mt. Etna, and David Derosett, Jonesboro.

A sister, Ann Derosett, preceded him in death.

Calling is 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount. military rites will follow at 6 p.m. and will be conducted by the Grant County Honor Guard.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana, Ky.

Preferred memorials are to the Make A Wish Foundation or the Marion Grant County Humane Society, in care of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN 46928.

Robert A. Williams

Robert A. Williams, 69, of Yuma, Ariz., and formerly of Huntington, died at 8:50 p.m. Dec. 8, 2001.

Mr. Williams was the owner of the William and Son Construction Company of Huntington.

He was born April 22, 1932, in Huntington to Virgil and Hazel Garrison Williams. He married Marlene A. Riley in Huntington on June 18, 1952. His wife survives and lives in Yuma.

Also surviving are a son, Steve A. Williams, Andrews; a daughter, Lori A. Williams, Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Sue) Hinds, Huntington; three brothers, Paul Williams and Fritz Williams, both of Florida, and Bill Williams, Fort Wayne; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Williams II; and a sister, Ann Scher.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at the Central Christian Church, 500 MacGahan St., with Rev. Teal Younce and Rev. Cameron Douglas officiating.

Private burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the Central Christian Church Building Fund, 500 MacGahan St., Huntington, IN 46750, or to the donor’s choice of charities.

Hart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Vera I. Hallman

Vera Irene Hallman, 76, died at 9:20 a.m. Monday (Dec. 17, 2001) at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, where she had been a resident since October. She was formerly of Charlevoix, Mich.

Mrs. Hallman retired as secretary with the Consumer Power Company in Charlevoix. She was a member of the Horton Bay United Methodist Church in Horton Bay, Mich. She lived her early years in Jackson Township, Wells County, before moving to Michigan. She returned to Indiana in October of 2001 due to her health.

She was born March 25, 1925, in Indiana to Elisha and Irene Murlin Losh. She graduated from Jackson Township High School in Wells County and married Frank Hallman in Michigan on Jan. 1, 1981. Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothea Hensley, Muncie; and five stepchildren.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Burial will be at the Lake Forrest Cemetery, Grand Haven, Mich.

Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel, 203 N. Matilda St., Warren, is in charge of arrangements.

Howard V. Black

Howard Vernon Black, 65, Sparta, Tenn., died Friday (Dec. 14, 2001) in Sparta.

Mr. Black was a former resident of Huntington.

He was born July 27, 1936, to Vernon H. Black and Elma Cain Black.

Survivors include his wife, Janet M. Black, Sparta, Tenn.; a son, Vernon Black, Florida; four daughters, Brenda Ripley, Indiana, Linda Laughter and Sharon Walden, both of North Carolina, and Barbara Black, South Carolina; a stepson, Bobby Collins, Indiana; two stepdaughters, Natalie Richey, Sparta, Tenn., and Judy West, Montana; three brothers, Carson Black, Kentucky, and Fred Black and Harvey Black, both of Michigan; nine grandchildren, and five stepgrandchildren.

Arrangements are pending at Thurman Funeral Homes, Sparta, Tenn.

Gene B. Beals

Gene B. Beals, 74, 1308 Guilford St., died at 10:10 p.m. Monday (Dec. 17, 2001) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Beals had worked as a drafting technician at Anaconda Wire and Cable, Marion, for 16 years. He was a member of the Lancaster Wesleyan Church, where he had served as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the board of trustees.

He was born June 14, 1927, in Marion, a son of Buford H. Beals and G. Irene Graham Beals. He married Phyllis J. DeSpain Sept. 27, 1958, in Huntington. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Micah Beals, Lancaster, and Dustin Beals, Allendale, Mich.; two daughters, Darbi Beals, Huntington, and Mrs. Barny (Shelley) Thompson, Fort Wayne; six sisters, Reba Dolby, Colleen Roth, and Jackie Preston, all of Huntington, Marlene Long, Montpelier, Arlene Hinen, New Paris, and Dottie Rose, Marion; and seven grandchildren.

Two brothers, Dewey Beals and Troy Beals, are deceased.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. today at Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, and from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lancaster Wesleyan Church, 3149W-543S, Warren. Services will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Thursday, with Rev. Doug Sharrard officiating. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lancaster Wesleyan Church, 3149W-543S, Warren IN 46792.

Don W. Aburn

Don W. Aburn, 83, a resident of Miller’s Merry Manor East in Wabash, died at the home at 8 p.m. Monday (Dec. 17, 2001).

Mr. Aburn worked for Phelps Dodge Magnet Wire Company, Fort Wayne, for 27 years, retiring in 1980. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a life member of the American Legion Post in Columbia City. He was a former resident of Converse and Whitley County.

He was born March 2, 1918, in Churubusco, a son of William F. Aburn and Iva Mae Hawk Aburn. He married Anita Jean Bentz Jan. 29, 1942, in South Whitley. His wife died Jan. 25, 1982.

Survivors include a son William Aburn, Kokomo; a daughter, Mrs. Gregg (Donna) Richards, Wabash; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Calling is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday, with Tony Thomas officiating. Burial be at the South Whitley Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.

Jack Voght

Jack Voght, 69, 1215 Edwin St., died at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001) at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Voght was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

He was born May 30, 1932, in Huntington to Ray and Nina Elston Voght. His mother, Nina Cocklin, survives and lives in Huntington.

Also surviving are three brothers, Carl Voght and Robert Voght, both of Huntington, and Richard Voght, Andrews; three sisters, Mrs. Orville (Connie) Crews and Carolyn Voght, both of Huntington, and Mrs. Tom (Judy) Burnworth, Lagro.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. Pastor Steve Stull will officiate. Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

James W. Sparks

James W. Sparks, 75, 512 William St., died at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001) at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Sparks retired in 1988 as a journeyman for Sheet Metal Workers Local 20 in Fort Wayne. He had also worked 25 years as an installer foreman for H. K. Porter of Huntington. He served in the Marine Corps in World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post 7 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689, both of Huntington.

He was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Wabash to Frank and Elizabeth Brown Sparks. He married Leora Margaret Kline on June 27, 1953, in Huntington. Sfe died April 19, 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Timothy W. Soper, Indianapolis, and Tracy L. Sparks, St. Augustine, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. David (Marie) Taylor, Huntington and Mrs. Ross (Debra) Brewer, both of Huntington, and Mrs. David (Teri) Wilson, Milford; three brothers, Orion Sparks, North Manchester, Lorin Sparks, Chicago, and Zeb Sparks, Wabash; three sisters, Mrs. Jack (Eloris) Hampton, Lagro, Mrs. Bill (Bonnie) Sellick, Peru, and Mrs. Jim (Glenna) Hampton, Wabash; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Sparks; a sister, Verna Miller; and a grandson.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Pastor Chris Moore will officiate. Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Home Health Care & Hospice, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington, IN 46750.

Dolores C. Hilligoss

Dolores C. Hilligoss, 84, of South Whitley, died at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001) at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Hilligoss was a homemaker and had worked at Square D in Huntington for 23 years. She was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Nix Settlement,and its Rosary Sodality and Study Club. She was a lifelong resident of Huntington and Whitley counties.

She was born Jan. 23, 1917, to Henry and Minnie Bauer Nix. She graduated from Washington Center High School in 1935. She married Max L. Hilligoss on Feb. 26, 1938, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Nix Settlement. Her husband survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Carolyn A. Fisher, Angola, Sue Bryan, Fort Wayne, and Nancy Josephson, Los Angeles, Calif.; a son, John Hilligoss, South Whitley; a sister, Mildred Johnson, Huntington; plus 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Nix; and two brothers, Norman Nix and Walter Nix.

Calling is 4-9 p.m. Friday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. A rosary service led by Deacon Joseph Zickgraf will be held at 7:45 p.m. Friday.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Nix Settlement, with Father Kenneth Sarrazine officiating. Burial will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery.

Memorial bequests may be given in Mrs. Hilligos’ name to Masses to the church or to St. Catherine’s Catholic Church Preservation Fund, in care of DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, IN 46725.
