Phyllis I. Knight

Phyllis I. Mann Knight, 74, Columbia City, died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 2, 2002) at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City. She had been in failing health for the past few months.

Mrs. Knight was a former employee of the Blue Bell Co. and the Weatherhead Co., both in Columbia City. She retired from Weatherhead in 1976. She was a member of the Columbia City Freewill Baptist Church.

She was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Bippus, to William Dewey and Goldie May Fulmer Wince. Her family moved from Huntington County to Columbia City later that year, and she lived on farms in Columbia Township in Whitley County and in Washington Township of Kosciusko County as she was growing up. She attended Pierceton High School.

She married Curtis Mann April 30, 1948, in Ligonier; he preceded her in death July 12, 1976. She married LeRoy Edward “Pete” Pratt Nov. 26, 1980, at the Freewill Baptist Church in Columbia City; he preceded her in death July 18, 1985. She married Earl W. Knight Oct. 23, 1990, in Greenville, Ohio; he preceded her in death Dec. 17.

Survivors include three sons, C. Glenn Mann and Roger L. Mann, both of Columbia City, and John H. Mann, Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. William (Rozella) Wicker, Columbia City. She was preceded in death by her husbands and by two brothers, Garold and Carl Wince.

Calling will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Taylor officiating. Burial will be at the South Park Annex Cemetery, Columbia City.

Harvey K. Boyer

Harvey Knowells Boyer, 91, died at 5:25 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 3, 2002) at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw, where he was a resident.

Mr. Boyer was formerly of Huntington, moving to the Barbee Lakes area in 1953. He began auctioning in 1947 and co-founded Flint Auto Auction with Carl Marker in 1953. He worked the auctioning circuit which included South Bend, Fort Wayne, Akron, Montpelier and Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a member of the North Webster United Methodist Church.

He was born Nov. 29, 1910, in Wells County and was raised by his foster parents, Thomas and Minnie Boyer. He married Anna Marie Hubartt on March 26, 1932; she died in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Phil (Barbara) Fidler, Leesburg; a son, Ron Boyer, Leesburg; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jay Boyer; three sisters and a brother.

Calling is 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, 7458E-1000N, Syracuse, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. Pastor Scott Mann and Pastor Jeff Boyer will officiate. Burial will be at the North Webster Cemetery, Mock Addition.

Preferred memorials are to the North Webster United Methodist Church Building Fund, in care of Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, 7458E-1000N, Syracuse, IN 46567.

Ralph V. Wesco

Ralph V. Wesco, 69, Huntington, died at 2:24 p.m. Friday (Jan. 4, 2002) at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Wesco was a pressman for 21 years at Majestic Products Co. in Huntington. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Wesco was born June 15, 1932, in Huntington County, to Guy and Jennie Ruth Phillips Wesco. He married Carol McAfee Nov. 19, 1982, in Huntington. His wife survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Jeannie) Wilkinson, Larwill, and Mrs. Rick (Alice) Garlock, Shelby, N.C., and five grandchildren.

Two sons, Bronk Wesco and Mark Wesco, and a sister preceded him in death.

Calling will be 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Road. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the church with Rev. Kevin Dunlop and Rev. Gene Vickory officiating. Burial will be at the Lancaster Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Jacob G. Shaw

Jacob G. Shaw, 82, Warren, died at 7:03 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 3, 2002) at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Shaw and his father, the late Glen Shaw, owned and operated the Bellville Feed Mill in Huntington County. He was a trainer and owner of standard breeds and belonged to the United States Trotting Association. He was a retired employee of the Farm Bureau Co-Op elevator in Van Buren.

He was a lifetime resident of Huntington County. He attended Jefferson Township High School.

Mr. Shaw was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Huntington County, to Glen and Nora Love Shaw.

Survivors include a brother, Dwight Shaw, McCordsville, and three sisters, Mrs. Lee (Naomi) Miller, Urbana, Glenora Shook, Marion, and Mrs. Paul (Martha) Harrold. A brother, Lewis M. Shaw, and two sisters, Wilma Gruver and Rosadene Moore, preceded him in death.

Calling will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown and Son Chapel, Warren. There will be no funeral service. Burial will be at the Lancaster Cemetery; burial services will be private.

Dianne L. Link

Dianne L. Link, 56, a resident of Logan Street in Markle, died at 7:02 a.m. Monday (Jan. 7, 2002) at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Mrs. Link was a custodian and preschool teacher at the Markle Church of Christ. She was a life member of the church and had taught the class of one-year-olds for many years.

She was a member of Compassion International and a 1963 graduate of West Rock Creek High School.

She was born June 25, 1945, in Bluffton, a daughter of Warren E. and Leona I. Siela Lund. She married Lyle R. “Bob” Link June 28, 1963, in Markle; her husband died Jan. 30, 1996.

Survivors include a son, Roger L. Link, Markle; four daughters, Mrs. Greg (Laura) Sovine, Mrs. Robert (Lisa) Hoch, and Mrs. Joe (Lonna) Clark, all of Huntington, and Lindsay Link, Markle; a brother, Ron Lund, Huntington; and 10 grandchildren.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the Markle Church of Christ, 455 E. Morse St., Markle. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Pastors Gerald O. Moreland, Mark Cleaveland, and Rick Smalling will officiate. Burial will be at the Markle Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lindsay Link College Fund in care of Myers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 403, Markle IN 46770.

Bertha E. Wilson

Bertha E. Wilson, 73, a resident of Garfield Street, died at 7 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 6, 2002) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker. She was a member of the American Legion Post 98 Auxiliary in Columbia City. She attended the Gospel Community Church in Huntington.

She was born Nov. 30, 1928, in Huntington, to Asa F. and Mabel O. (Hunt) Whitesell. She married Howard A. Wilson April 11, 1961, in Huntington. Her husband died Feb. 17, 1965.

Survivors include a son, Steven E. Smith, Benbrook, Texas; three daughters, Diana M. Sell, Ossian, Sheryl Spencer, Salyersville, Ky., and Joyce Flood, Huntington; one stepdaughter, Bonnie Wright, Huntington; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Walter Whitesell, Willard Whitesell, and Paul Whitesell, all of Huntington; two sisters, Luetta Thorn and Reene Miller, both of Huntington; and a companion, George A. Bauer, Columbia City.

Three brothers, Vaughn Whitesell, Rudy Whitesell, and Albert Whitesell, and a sister, Bernice French, preceded her in death.

Calling will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Elzie Spencer officiating. Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Darvin E. Hanson

Darvin E. Hanson, 49, 3840E-608N, died at 9:55 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 6, 2002) at his home.

Mr. Hanson had been employed by United Parcel Service for 26 years as a service provider in Huntington and Andrews. He was a lifelong Huntington resident and a 1971 graduate of Huntington North High School.

He was a member of Central Christian Church, Teamsters Local 710, the Chief LaFontaine Saddle Club, and the American Quarter Horse Association of Texas.

He was born Dec. 26, 1952, in Huntington, a son of Henry S. and Vivian Wright Hanson. His parents survive in Huntington. He married Valerie A. Bennett July 23, 1971; his wife survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Andrea Hanson and Ashley Hanson, both at home; and a sister, Mrs. Richard (Daralene) Bowman, Huntington.

A son, Cory Hanson, preceded him in death.

Calling is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Pat Mullen and Dr. Sam K. Young will officiate. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington IN 46750.

Martha P. Thompson

Martha Pauline Thompson, 83, Marion, died at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2002) at her home.

Mrs. Thompson was a former resident of Cincinnati, Ohio.

She was born Oct. 29, 1918, in Grant County, a daughter of Paul and Lena Fisher Kaylor. She married Richard J. Thompson June 7, 1947; her husband died June 17, 1995.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Sondra Kay) Garriott, Marion, and Frances Thompson, Cincinnati, Ohio; a stepson, Larry Richard Thompson, Waterloo, Iowa; a brother, Charles Kaylor, Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Ruth Helm and Mrs. Bill (Edna) Simmons, both of Marion; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Janet Luchs will officiate. Burial will be at Estates of Serenity, Marion.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate, Dept. 77-3968, Chicago IL 60678-3968, or to the American Diabetes. Association, 7363 E. 21st St., Indianapolis IN 46219.

Mary A. Davis

Mary Alice Davis, 69, Van Buren, died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2002) at her home.

Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and was an Avon representative in the Hartford City area. She was a member of the Ding Dong Avon Collectors Club in Hartford City. She attended Van Buren High School.

She was born Nov. 1, 1932, in Muncie, a daughter of Charles L. Dobson and Eathel D. Fletcher. She married Frank Davis in 1969; he died in 1988.

Survivors include three sons, James R. Poe of Van Buren, Kenneth Poe of Huntington, and Scott R. Allen of Florida; two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Linda) Catenazzo and Jo Yarger, both of Van Buren; a brother, Bill Dobson of Upland; three sisters, Mrs. Tom (Martha) Harmon and Gertie Harmon, both of Marion, and Betty Jane Mayo, Tarpon Springs, Fla.; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

A sister, Joyce Atkins, is deceased.

Calling is 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Van Buren. Cremation will take place, with burial to follow in the Van Buren Cemetery. Services will be held later.
