Richard L. Holzinger

Richard L. Holzinger, 79, Fort Wayne, died at 10:15 a.m. Friday (Feb. 1, 2002) at his home.

Mr. Holzinger, a former resident of Huntington, worked as a machine repairman for Dana Corp., retiring in 1986 after 27 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Wayne. He served during World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689, where he also served as a past commander, and a member of American Legion Post 499, Fort Wayne. He also served as past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Fifth District.

He was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Huntington to Joseph and Anna Wehr Holzinger. He graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1940. He married Joyce M. Steele on Feb. 15, 1946, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. His wife survives.

Also surviving are are a son, Larry A. Holzinger, Roanoke; a sister, Ann Moore, Midland, Mich.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Parker; a son, Richard Holzinger; three brothers, Paul Holzinger, John Holzinger and Joseph Holzinger; and seven sisters, Catherine Buck, Mary Cunningham, Clara Grice, Regina Miller, Rose Miles, Marie McCready and Dorothy Denzel.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday at Hart Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 840 Cherry St., with Father Ron Rieder officiating.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Parkview Hospice and Home Health Care, Fort Wayne, to Masses, or to the donor’s choice of charities, in care of Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Shirley L. Haiflich

Shirley L. Newnam Haiflich, 58, Akron, died at 6:35 a.m. Friday (Feb. 1, 2002) at her home.

Mrs. Haiflich, a former resident of Roanoke, worked as a materials planner at Raytheon Systems, Fort Wayne. She was a member of the Akron United Methodist Church; the Rural Chaplain’s Association, serving as secretary for one year; and the American Business Women’s Association, Kilsoquah Chapter.

She was born May 14, 1943, in Cadiz, Ky., to Wayne and Mildred Shane Newnam. Her mother survives and lives in Fairbury, Ill. She married Rev. Stevan R. Haiflich in North Webster on Dec. 31, 1992. Her husband survives.

Also surviving are two stepsons, Phillip Haiflich and Andrew Haiflich, both of Fort Wayne; three sisters, Mrs. Wade (Elaine) Nystrom, Altona, Ill., Karilyn Newnam, Urbana, Ill., and Mrs. David (Elsie) Casteel, Great Falls, Mont.; a brother, Stan Newnam, Mount Vernon, Ill.; and two stepgrandchildren.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Akron United Methodist Church, 121 N. Mishawaka St., Akron. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev. Michael Harris officiating.

Burial will be at the Mossburg Cemetery near Liberty Center in Wells County.

Preferred memorials are to the Akron Missions Fund, the Rural Chaplain’s Association, or the church of the donor’s choice, in care of Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., P.O. Box 619, Akron, IN 46910.

Berniece L. Runion

Berniece L. Crago Runion, 88, a resident of the Norwood Nursing Center since September 1996 and a former resident of Joe Street, died at 9:50 p.m. Monday (Feb. 4, 2002) at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Mrs. Runion had been employed for several years at Moon & Moon Laundry and Dry Cleaning and in the laundry department at Huntington Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Good Shepherd United Brethren Church and the Grayston Avenue United Brethren Church for 50 years. She also taught Sunday school for many years.

She was born on May 24, 1913, in Huntington to Samuel and Nellie Sprowl Bowman. She married Fred Crago Nov. 14, 1931, in Huntington; he preceded her in death Sept. 12, 1960. Her second marriage was to Cliffton Runion Aug. 13, 1967, in Huntington; he preceded her in death June 22, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Sam Crago and Fred Crago, both of Huntington; two daughters; Beverly Huntley, Tallahassee, Fla., and Nancy Bozwell, Portage, Mich.; four stepsons, Ed Runion, Markle, and Harold Runion, Clifford Runion and Dave Runion, all of Huntington; two stepdaughters, Lucille Wilson, Huntington, and Susan Lindsey, North Webster; a sister, Esther Grider, Noblesville; and 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, 19 stepgrandchildren, 24 stepgreat-grandchildren and 6 stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight Bowman, and a stepdaughter, Phyllis Crago.

Calling will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Rev. Richard Frederick officiating. Burial will be at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Good Shepherd United Brethren Church in care of the Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Elizabeth F. Darby

Elizabeth F. “Bette” Darby, 88, Arlington Heights, Ill., died Saturday (Feb. 2, 1001) at her home.

Mrs. Darby had worked as a secretary for the Royal League Insurance Co. for more than 20 years. She was a member of St. Simon Episcopal Church in Arlington Heights, Ill., where she participated in the Altar Guild and was the 1995 recipient of the St. Simon’s award, and was a member of the Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Chicago. She was also a member of P.E.O.

She was born April 20, 1913, in Chicago, a daughter of John and Agnes Hancock. She married George H. Darby, who is deceased.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Judith) Frischman, Huntington, and Mrs. J. Peter (Priscilla) Lovell, Rockford, Ill.; a son, George D. Darby, Palatine, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Ben (Irene) Olah; a stepsister, Dorothy Salisbury Davis; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A sister, Margie Hancock, is deceased.

Calling is noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Simon Episcopal Church, 717 Kirchoff Rd., Arlington Heights, Ill. Services will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Saturday, with Rev. Robert P. Dekker officiating. Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Simon Episcopal Church in care of Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights IL 60004-3906.

Opal J. Lund

Opal J. Lund, 81, of Nobelsville, died Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2002) at River Walk Village Nursing Home in Nobelsville.

She was a former resident of Markle.

Arrangements are pending at Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel.

Jose Williamson

Jose Williamson, 88, Bluffton, died at 2:14 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2002) at Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation in Bluffton.

Mr. Williamson was born Feb. 15, 1913, in Wells County, a son of Alva Williamson and Grace May Slater Williamson. He attended Wells County schools.

Survivors include two brothers, Isaac Williamson, Nashville, Tenn., and Claude J. Williamson, Warren; and two sisters, Levella Grogg and Fay Williamson, both of Bluffton.

Calling is 1-2 p.m. Thursday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown and Son Chapel, Warren, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be Red Men Cemetery, Warren.

Wanda L. Bonebrake

Wanda L. Bonebrake, 87, Warren, died at 12:12 p.m. Sunday (June 9, 2002) at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren.

Calling is 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Memorial Home, Applegate Chapel, 801 Huntington Ave., Warren, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. John Wallace will officiate.

Interment will be at the South Whitley Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the United Methodist Memorial Home, 801 Huntington Ave., Warren, IN 46792; or to the donor’s choice of charities in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Robert E. Keirn

Robert E. Keirn, 86, a former resident of South Whitley, died Sunday morning at The Oaks Living Center in Columbia City where he had resided since January 1996.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, 208 N. Maple St., South Whitley, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. J. Phillip Blake will officiate.

Burial will be at the South Whitley Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, in care of Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, 208 N. Maple St., South Whitley, IN 46787.

Curtis L. Davis

Curtis L. Davis, 90, Claypool, died at 11 p.m. Wednesday (June 5, 2002) at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.

There will be no calling hours or services.

The DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, Silver Lake Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Lois M. Gillespie

Lois M. Gillespie, 90, Marion, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday (June 5, 2002) at Colonial Oaks Health Care Center, Marion.

Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Home, 400 E. Main St., Gas City.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, with calling one hour prior to services, at the Westview Wesleyan Church, 1300 W. 6th St., Jonesboro. Rev. Charles McCallum and Rev. E.C. Gafford will officiate.

Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Huntington County.

Preferred memorials are to the Westview Wesleyan Church Building Fund, 1300 W. 6th St., Jonesboro, IN 46938.

Norman W. Parker Jr.

Norman William Parker Jr., 79, died May 18, 2002, in Santa Clara, Calif., where he had resided the past few months. He was a former resident of Huntington County.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Seminary United Methodist Church, 285 N. Seminary St., Roanoke. The ladies of the church will prepare a meal for family and friends prior to the memorial service.

Preferred memorials are to Seminary United Methodist Church, 285 N. Seminary St., Roanoke, IN 46783, for a handicap ramp in honor and memory of the Parker family.
