James Meek, 71, a resident of Posey Hill Mobile Home Park, Roanoke, died at his home at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday (June 12, 2002).

Calling is from 1-2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Covington Memorial Gardens, 8404 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday. Rev. Darrell Weigelt will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cornerstone Alliance Church, 5833W-900N, Roanoke IN 46783.

Howard ‘Hod’ Kaylor

Howard “Hod” Kaylor, 79, Huntington, died at 12:25 p.m. Monday (June 10, 2002) at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Russell Buzzard will officiate.

Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Esther V. Simmons

Esther V. Simmons, 98, Kirby, Ark., died Saturday (June 8, 2002).

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Mount Joy Cemetery, Kirby, Ark., with Rev. Travis Garner officiating. Pallbearers were Bill Fant, Jimmy Funderburk, Eugene Fant, James Parker, Red Dollar, and Robbie Funderburk.

The Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood, Ark., is in charge of arrangements.

Danny C. Tucker

Danny Clay Tucker, 51, Wabash, died at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday (June 11, 2002) from injuries he received in an automobile accident.

Calling will be from 3 p.m. until the 5 p.m. funeral service Friday at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. Ron Lane will officiate at the funeral service.

Hiram D. Crunk

Hiram Douglas Crunk, 62, of Tennessee, died May 23, 2002, at Mountain Home Veterans Administration Hospital in Johnson, Tenn.

Burial was May 24 at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Johnson, Tenn.

The Robinson Funeral Home, Bristol, Va., was in charge of arrangements.

Francis L. Whitacre

Francis L. Whitacre, 84, a resident of Norwood Nursing Center, died at the home at 12:25 p.m. Thursday (June 13, 2002).

Calling is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Andrews Chapel, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday with Dr. Kent Young officiating.

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Andrews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Samuel E. Pugh

Samuel E. Pugh, 65, 685E-1000S, Warren, died at 1:50 a.m. Sunday (June 16, 2002) at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel, 203 N. Matilda St., Warren, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Jerry Pugh and Chaplin David Jones will officiate.

John Knop

John Knop, a two-term mayor of Huntington, former state Veterans Affairs official and a long-time local businessman, died Friday night at his home at 210 Orchard Lane. He was 81.

Knop’s tenure as mayor was perhaps best-known for the creation of the Jefferson Park Mall through the city’s central business district. The Knop administration supported the concept of the three-block renovation, which began in 1969.

Knop was elected mayor in 1967 and re-elected in 1971. He was also a member of the City Plan Commission.

In 1977, Knop was appointed director of the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs in Indianapolis and served in that post until 1980.

He was the owner of Jones Jewelry Store in Huntington.

John Knop, 81, died at 8:45 p.m. Friday (June 14, 2002).

Calling is from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where a Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Ron Rieder officiating.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are masses at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, or contributions to Parkview Huntington Hospital Home Health Care and Hospice.

Terry L. Gephart

Terry Lee Gephart, 57, Wimauma, Fla., died May 24, 2002.

Zipperer’s Agape Mortuary and Crematory, Ruskin, Fla., was in charge of arrangements.

Garl E. Ervin

Garl E. Ervin, 78, Marion, Ohio, died Saturday (June 15, 2002) while working at the First Church of the Brethren, Marion, Ohio.

Calling is 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. CST Tuesday at Gunder-Hall & Folk Funeral Directors, 347 W. Center St., Marion, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. CST Wednesday at the First Church of the Brethren, 860 E. Church St., Marion, Ohio, with Rev. Cynthia Peel officiating.

Burial will be at the Marion (Ohio) Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church, Mobile Meals, or the Palace Theatre, in care of Gunder-Hall & Folk Funeral Directors, 347 W. Center St., Marion, OH 43302.

Nettie Baker

Nettie Baker, 93, died at 8:25 a.m. Friday (June 14, 2002) at Miller’s Merry Manor, Huntington.

Calling is from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday with Rev. Clarence Baker officiating.

Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery, Wells County.

Preferred memorials are contributions to Pathfinder Services of Huntington County, care of Myers Funeral Home.

Max I. Allen

Max I. Allen, 89, a resident of the Timbercrest Retirement Community in North Manchester, died at 10:20 a.m. Saturday (June 15, 2002) in the emergency room of Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru.

Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel, 1401 Ind.-114W, North Manchester.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the North Manchester United Methodist Church, 306 E. Second St., North Manchester, with Pastor Bruce Hostetler officiating.

Burial will be at the Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville.

Preferred memorials are to the Max Allen Arts Scholarship Fund, in care of DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel, 1401 Ind.-114W, North Manchester, IN 46962.

Jean M. Webb

Jean M. Webb, 79, Bippus, died at 1:55 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Servia.

Preferred memorials are to the St. John’s United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 125, Bippus, IN 46713.

Mary Jo Horn

Mary Jo Horn, 57, Harlan, died at 9:22 p.m. Monday (June 17, 2002) at her home.

Calling is from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Harlan United Methodist Church, with services at 1 p.m. Pastor Doug Davies will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harlan United Methodist Church or Parkview Home Health Care and Hospice, Fort Wayne.

Brown Funeral Home, 706 N. Main St., Hicksville, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements.
