Frances C. Weaver

Frances C. (Rench) Weaver, 88 formerly of Huntington, IN. and Lanark, IL. died at 9:40 AM on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at the Timbercrest Retirement Center in North Manchester. Mrs. Weaver was a homemaker; she and her husband were life long farmers in Huntington County. Mrs. Weaver and her husband, Paul, along with Paul’s father, I.E. Weaver were co-founders of the Weaver Popcorn Company in Van Buren, Indiana. She was a member of the Home Extention Clubs in both Indiana and Illinois. She was a 1931 graduate of Gaston High School in Indiana. She was a member of the Salamonie Church of the Brethren in Warren and the Lanark Church of the Brethren in Lanark, Illinois. She was active in Women’s associations at both churches and served as a Deaconess at both churches. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, sewing and being with her family.

She was born on April 11, 1914 in Gaston, Indiana a daughter of Zora A. and Vunera Swauger Rench.

She was united in marriage to Paul L. Weaver on April 23, 1931 in Louisville, KY. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1979.

Survivors include four sons: Paul Weaver of Lanark, IL., James Weaver of Shannon, IL., Joe Weaver of Deep Gap, NC., John Weaver of Shannon, IL., four daughters: Joyce Truitt of Ft. Wayne, Martha Stephan of Huntington, Carolyn Flaugher of Liberty Center, Jane Schenkel of Huntington, two sisters: Maxine Carey, Joan Hodson both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., twenty grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother: Kenneth Rench.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 13, 2002 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 10:30 AM at the Salamonie Church of the Brethren, State Road 124 near Warren.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2002 at 1:00 PM at the Lanark Cemetery in Lanark, Illinois.

Preferred memorials are to the Timbercrest Retirement Home in North Manchester, the Lanark Church of the Brethren or the Salamonie Church of the Brethren in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.

Rex D. Boxell

Rex Dean Boxell, 75 of Chesterfield, MO. formerly of Markle and Andrews died at 2:30 PM on Friday, September 13, 2002 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO. Mr. Boxell had worked at H-K Porter as a pressman from 1968 – 1971. He then went to work for Majestic Corporation in the shipping and receiving department from 1971 until his retirement in 1990. He had grown up and farmed the Boxell Family farm in Union Township in Wells County until 1971. He was a member of the College Park United Brethren Church where. He was an avid gardener, bird enthusiast and wild life naturalist. He was also a member of the United Sheet Metal Workers of America. He volunteered with the Wells County 4-H Club and was an active leader of the tractor maintenance for 4-H. He was a 1945 graduate of East Union High School in Wells County.

He was born on April 29, 1927 in Wells County, a son of Aca Lewis and Ruth Elizabeth Williams Boxell.

He was united in marriage to his first wife, Janice Boyer on February 11, 1951 in Huntington County. She preceded him in death on March 28, 1990. His second marriage was to Rosemary Bigelow on July 14, 1990 in Huntington, she preceded him in death on May 28, 1998.

Survivors include three sons: Alan C. Boxell of Clarksville, MO, Arden L. Boxell and Arlyn D. “Deke” Boxell both of Huntington, four daughters: Mrs. Rodney (Carla) Rice, Mrs. Tom (Jadean) Barnes, Mrs. Eric (Elaine) Sands all of Huntington, Mrs. Melvin ( Rhonda) Richardson of Virginia Beach, VA, 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Two brothers: Carl Boxell and Lewis Boxell Jr. and a great grandson: Jacob Isaiah Jay preceded him in death.

Visitation will be on Monday, September 16, 2002 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.

Services will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at 10:00 AM at the College Park United Brethren Church, 1945 College Ave. Huntington with one hour of calling prior to the service with Pastor Brent Birdsall and Pastor Bill Rapp officiating.

Interment will be at the Star of Hope Cemetery in Huntington.

Preferred memorials are to the Huntington County 4-H or to the American Diabetes. Association in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.

Esther Isabel Barber

Esther I. Barber, 86, formerly of Huntington died at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2002 at the Saint Anne Home in Ft. Wayne where she had been a resident for the past several years. Mrs. Barber was a 4th Grade Teacher at the Roanoke Elementary School for the Huntington County Community Schools for 18 years retiring in 1981. She graduated from Huntington High School in 1934. She was a 1964 graduate of Huntington College and she received her Masters from St. Francis College. She was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and a member of the College Park United Brethren Church.

She was born on June 15, 1916 in Huntington, a daughter of Ira and Amanda (Jennings) Hanauer.
Her 1st marriage was to Horace Williams on August 31, 1947 in Warsaw, he preceded her in death on May 31, 1957. Her 2nd marriage was to Hugh Barber on April 2, 1960 in Huntington, he preceded her in death in March of 1967.

Survivors include a daughter: Kathy Borchert of Ft. Wayne, 6 stepchildren, a sister: Dorothy Houser of Huntington, and a grandson. She was preceded in death by 3 Brothers: Clyde, Wilbur & Herbert Hanauer and a sister: Berniece Osgood.

Services will be held on Monday, October 28, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN with Rev. Raymond Waldfogel and Rev. Brent Birdsall officiating.

Visitation will be on Sunday, October 27, 2002 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service on Monday.

Interment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Huntington.

Preferred memorials are to College Park United Brethren Church in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.

Mary Ellen Hartman

Mary Ellen Hartman, 81, of rural Huntington died at 12:39 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at the Heritage of Huntington. Mrs. Hartman was a homemaker and also worked over her lifetime at Schacht Rubber Company and the Smith Furniture Store in Huntington. She was a member of the Huntington Church of the Brethren where she served as a life-long deaconess. She was a 1939 graduate of Chester Township High School in North Manchester, Indiana.

She was born on September 5, 1921 in Casstown, Ohio a daughter of Homer B. and Mary Effie (Butterbaugh) Weddle.

She was united in marriage to Paul Hartman on November 23, 1946 in Liberty Mills, IN. Her husband survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Sam (Marilyn) Hyde, of Fort Wayne, IN, Mrs. William (Carol) Donnelly of Huntington, IN, and Mrs. Edward (Nancy) Smith of Huntington, IN, six grandchildren and 2 great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by: a grandson, Benjamin Hyde, and two brothers and one sister.

Services will be held on Friday, November 1, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750 with Pastor Ken Rieman officiating.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 31, 2002 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington.

Interment will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in North Manchester, IN.

Preferred memorials are to the Huntington Church of the Brethren in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.

Miriam E. Blew

Miriam E. Blew, 87, of rural Huntington died at 1:10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at her home. Mrs. Blew lived and worked as a homemaker on the family farm with her husband, Huegeen for 59 years. She attended both Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church and the College Park United Brethren Church for many years. She was an adult Sunday School teacher at Pleasant Chapel Church.
She enjoyed reading, camping and working crossword puzzles.

She was born on November 15, 1914 in Bluffton, Ohio a daughter of William and Emma Shifferly Neuenschwander.

She was united in marriage to Huegeen Blew on October 7, 1933 in Chicago, IL. He survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Nancy) Byrd, of Fort Wayne, IN; 6 Grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Phoebe Kauffman of West Lafayette, IN. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna May Jones in 1993; a granddaughter, Marjorie Cake in 1995; seven brothers and five sisters.

Services will be held on Friday, November 1, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church, 880 E CR 1100 N, Huntington, IN.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 30, 2002 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington and 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Interment will be at the Pleasant Chapel Cemetery in northern Huntington county.

Preferred memorials are to Bridges of Peace in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.

Vernice C. Kline

Vernice C. Kline, 89 formerly of Dayton Court, Huntington died at 7:58 AM, Friday, November 1, 2002 at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren. Mrs. Kline was a homemaker. She was an Avon Representative for 13 years. She belonged to the Neighborhood Comfort Club. She was a member of the Union Church where she participated in the Women`s Mission Society. She taught Vacation Bible School and served for many years as the church song leader. She was a 1930 graduate of Union Township High School.

She was born on April 12, 1913 in Huntington County, a daughter of George and Lillie Brubaker Frech.

She was united in marriage to Frank R. Kline on April 16, 1932 in Zanesville. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1993.

Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Marilyn Harrell of Huntington, Mrs. Gene (Janice) Grogg of Geneva, Mrs. Harold (Jean) Dungan of Greenfield, IN, two sons: Jerry F. Kline of Markle, Duane Kline of Huntington, a sister: Mrs. Walter (Clarice) Buchholz of Sun City, AZ, Fifteen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.

A brother: Charles D. Frech, two sisters: Cholista Beaver, Cleo Bonbrake and four infant grandchildren preceded her in death.

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 3, 2002 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and Monday, November 4, 2002 from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Services will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at 10:00 AM at the Union Church, 3688 E. 400 N. in Huntington with Dr. Howard Cherry officiating.

Preferred memorials are to the Union Church Children`s Ministries Fund or to the Union Church Music Fund in care of Union Church, 3688 E. 400 N., Huntington, IN 46750.

Interment will be at the Union Cemetery in Huntington County.

Rex D. Swing

Rex D. Swing, 82 of Roanoke died at 9:40 AM on Saturday, November 2, 2002 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Mr. Swing had worked for the Coil Engineering/Square D Corporation for 38 years retiring as a foreman from Square D. He also worked after retirement for Inland Oil of Roanoke and for Oak Lanes in Huntington. He was a licensed little league umpire for Huntington County baseball for many years. He was a WWII Navy Veteran serving overseas in the European Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion Post #160 in Roanoke. He attended the Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church. He attended the Roanoke High School. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, basketball and bowling.

He was born on December 2, 1919 in Jefferson Township in Whitley County, Indiana, a son of Thomas and Bertha Geist Swing.

He was united in marriage to June Morford on November 6, 1942 in Whitley County. His wife survives in Roanoke.

Additional survivors include three brothers: Ed Swing of Lebanon, IN, Dick Swing of South Whitley, Harry Swing of Huntington, four sisters: Cynthia Young of Converse, Geraldine Cobbs of Upland, Donnabelle Gillam and Aladean Weaver both of Huntington and several nieces and nephews.

Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 4, 2002 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Services will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at 10:00 AM at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Jason Gross officiating.

Interment will be at the Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fort Wayne.

Preferred memorials are to the Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 880 E. 1100 N., Roanoke, IN 46783.
