Richard Beaty

Former Huntington real estate executive and community leader Richard E. Beaty died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 5, 2002) at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Beaty, 71, Huntington, served as the chairman of the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Committee in 1983, the year of its founding. That group eventually became the Lime City Economic Development Corp. He was instrumental in the formation of the Riverfork Industrial Park, serving as a director of the Riverfork Development Corp. in 1978 and 1979.

Mr. Beaty was a real estate agent for 40 years, founding Dick Beaty Realty. That company eventually became known as Century 21 The Beaty Co., Realtors. The company was purchased by Brenda Wintrode in 1999 and is now known as Century 21 Property Shoppe.

He was a former director of the Huntington County Medical Memorial Foundation and was a director of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce in 1960. He had been a member of the advisory committee to the Farm Credit Service in Huntington County since 1987. He was a member of the National Real Estate Association board of directors.

He was a former winner of the Huntington County Board of Realtors’ “Realtor of the Year” honor. He received a similar honor from the Indiana Farm and Land Institute.

Mr. Beaty was a graduate of Lancaster High School and Purdue University, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He also graduated from Reppert School of Auctioneering in 1954. He was an Army veteran, serving during 1955 and 1956 and rising to the rank of lieutenant.

Mr. Beaty was born June 26, 1931, in Huntington County, to Everett R. and Flossie A. Huffman Beaty. He married Lois J. Clark May 24, 1974, in Huntington; his wife survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Pamela Green, South Bend, and Melissa Tempest, Columbus; two stepchildren, Steven Brooks, Huntington, and Dana Burns, Sheridan, Wyo.; a brother, Robert L. Beaty, Huntington; and two grandchildren.

Calling hours are 3-7 p.m. Thursday at the McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Huntington County Humane Society in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Oren W. Fox

Oren W. Fox, 84, Kirby, Ark., died Tuesday (Nov. 5, 2002).

Mr. Fox was a member of the Kirby Church of Christ.

Calling is from 6-8 p.m. CST Thursday at the Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood, Ark. Services will be held at 2 p.m. CST Friday at the Kirby Church of Christ with Bill Golden and Harloe White officiating.

Interment will be at the Palestine Cemetery.

B. Olen Whisenhunt

B. Olen Whisenhunt, 73, Huntington, died at 5:45 a.m. Friday (Nov. 8, 2002) at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Father Gary Sigler will officiate.

Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to The Leukemia Foundation, in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Oren L. Fouts

Former Huntington insurance executive Oren Fouts, who helped spearhead the drive to develop Riverfork Industrial Park, died Wednesday in Fort Wayne. He was 90.

Fouts was an incorporator and board president of the Riverfork Development Corporation, which bought the land and marketed the industrial park in the 1970s and 1980s.

“He was in a group of people who set the stage for a lot of good things that happened in Huntington,” said John Sunderman, who worked with Fouts for nearly 20 years at Bailey Investments Co., which does business as Insurance Services. “He was active in a lot of community organizations … he was a very sharp guy.”

Fouts came to Huntington in 1947 and was president of Insurance Services from 1966-1978. He retired in 1983.

He was president of the board of directors of the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce in 1956 and was Chief of the Flint Springs Tribe in 1972. He was vice chairman of the board of directors of the American Red Cross, a past president of the Huntington Kiwanis Club, served on the board of directors of the YMCA, on the United Methodist Memorial Home board of trustees, and as president of Independent Insurance Agents of Huntington County.

Fouts was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer of the administrative board, and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Iona Wood

Iona Wood, 86, Bridgman, Mich., a former resident of Huntington, died Friday (Nov. 8, 2002) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Pobocik Funeral Home in Three Oaks, Mich. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Three Oaks.

Condolences may be sent to Rev. William Wood, Bridgman Est. 9955 Baldwin Rd., Box 32, Bridgman, MI 49106.

Gary R. Weaver

Gary R. Weaver, 49, Markle, died Sunday (Nov. 3, 2002) at the Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Funeral services were Nov. 6 at the Covington Funeral Home, Fort Wayne. Burial was at the Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.

Preferred memorials are contributions to the family in care of the Markle Church of Christ, 5823 NW Ind.-116-90, Huntington, IN 46750.

Carl M. Smith

Carl M. Smith, 88, a Huntington native and a resident of Fruitland Park, Fla., died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 7, 2002) at his Florida home.

A service for Mr. Smith will be held at the Byers Funeral Home, Lady of the Lake, Fla.

Richard G. Rader

Richard G. Rader, 74, 11374S-100E, Warren, died at 9:12 p.m. Friday (Nov. 8, 2002) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Calling is 1-9 p.m. Monday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown and Son Chapel, Warren, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Warren.

Roscoe D. Parrish

Roscoe D. Parrish, 82, Angola, died Saturday (Nov. 9, 2002) at the Lakeland Nursing Center in Angola.

There will be no calling hours.

military graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Flint Cemetery, Steuben County, with Pastor Donald E. Meyers officiating. military rites will be conducted by members of American Legion Post 31.

Preferred memorials are to Calvary Lutheran Church in Angola, the Council on Aging, or Sons of the American Legion, in care of Weicht Funeral Home, 207 N. West St., Angola, IN 46703.

Hilda Lesh

Hilda Lesh, 97, Warren, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 9, 2002) at the United Methodist Memorial Home, Warren.

Calling is noon to 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1621W-300N, Bluffton. Services will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Monday, with Rev. Otto E. Dorsch officiating.

Burial will be at the Horeb Cemetery, Bluffton.

Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bluffton, in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington IN 46750.

Bobby L. Kline

Bobby L. Kline, 78, 1132 Condit St., died at 8 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 7, 2002) at his home.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a Moose Lodge service of tribute at 7:30 p.m., at the Bailey-Love Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Raymond Scribner officiating.

Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, Huntington County.

Preferred memorials are to the Huntington County Humane Shelter or to the charity of the donor’s choice, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington, IN 46750.

Robert E. Hunnicutt

Robert E. Hunnicutt, 69, 10513S-300W, Warren, died at 5:58 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 10, 2002) at his home.

Calling is 3-7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday at the Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel, 203 N. Matilda St., Warren. Pastor Jim Keller will officiate.

Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to New Life Lutheran Church, 2424 S. Coliseum Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46803; or Roanoke American Legion Post 160, 1122 N. Main St., Roanoke, IN 46783.
