Robert D. Stahl, 85, 2020 Manito Trail, died at his home at 11:43 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003).

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s First United Church of Christ with Rev. Jonathan Heaslet officiating. Burial will be at the St. Peter’s First United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s First United Church of Christ or to the donor’s choice of charity in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington IN 46750.

Lillian E. Druley

Lillian E. Druley, 91, 5097N-500W, died at 7:05 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003) at the Norwood Nursing Center.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Steve Stull will officiate.

Burial will be at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the East State Street Church of God, in care of Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, 338 E. Washington St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Sister Mary Jane Cholewinski

Sister Mary Jane Cholewinski, 76, a resident of Victory Noll, died at 6:13 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

A vigil service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Victory Noll Chapel, 1900 W. Park Dr., with Rev. Thomas Fahey officiating. Calling will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Burial will be at the Victory Noll Cemetery.

The McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., is in charge of arrangements.

M. Wilson ‘Ted’ Sims Jr.

M. Wilson “Ted” Sims Jr., 59, died at 12:34 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003) at the Lutheran Homes Inc., Fort Wayne, where he was a resident.

A memorial service for Mr. Sims will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, with calling one hour prior to the service, at the Lutheran Homes Inc., 6701 S. Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne.

Burial will be at Beech Grove Cemetery, Huntington County, at a later date.

The family requests no floral arrangements. Memorial contributions may be sent to Lutheran Homes Inc., 6701 S. Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46816; or to Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, 2978W-1100N, Huntington, IN 46750.

Edwin E. Gephart

Edwin Eugene Gephart, 65, of Troy, Ohio and formerly of Huntington, died at 5 a.m. Monday (Jan. 13, 2003) at his home.

A memorial service will be held for Mr. Gephart at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Baird Funeral Home, 555 N. Market St., Troy, Ohio, with Ron Boyd officiating. The family requests no flowers.

Charles J. Crum

Charles J. Crum, 83, a resident of Jackson Township, Huntington County, died at 1:19 a.m. Monday (Jan. 13, 2003) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 207 N. Main St., Columbia City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Curtis Golm officiating.

Burial will be at the Old Lutheran Union Cemetery on Country Road 1100 N, Jackson Township, Huntington County.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice of charity, in care of Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 207 N. Main St., Columbia City, IN 46725.

John R. Whitelock

John R. Whitelock, 95, New Haven, died at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 15, 2003) at Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the E. Harper and Son Funeral Home, 740 Ind.-930E, New Haven. Services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with Rev. Steve Beutler officiating. There will be additional calling 30 minutes prior to the services.

Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven.

Preferred memorials are contributions to the New Haven United Methodist Church, in care of the E. Harper and Son Funeral Home, 740 Ind.-930E, New Haven, IN 46774.

Robert C. Stocksdale

Robert Clair “Bob” Stocksdale, 89, Berkeley, Calif., a former resident of Huntington, died Jan. 6, 2003, in Oakland, Calif.

An informal celebration of Mr. Stocksdale’s life will be held from 2-4 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Palo Alto Art Center, Palo Alto, Calif.

A local memorial service is being planned.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Friends Service Committee, 65 9th St., San Francisco, CA 94103, or the Palo Alto Art Center Foundation, 1313 Newell Rd., Palo Alto, CA 94303.

Juanita L. Martin

Juanita L. Martin, 89, Bluffton, died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 14, 2003) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Calling hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Dean Lautzenheiser officiating.

Burial will be at the Alberson Cemetery, Geneva.

Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 4204, South Bend, IN 46634, or to the American Heart Association Midwest Affiliate, Dept. 77-3968, Chicago, IL 60678.

Ralph J. Swihart

Ralph Jacob Swihart, 92, Columbia City, died at 11:03 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003) at Miller’s Merry Manor nursing home, Columbia City.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Penny Mosher officiating.

Burial will be at the Jefferson Chapel (Sand Bank) Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Whitley County.

Preferred memorials are to the American Diabetes. Association, in care of DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, IN 46725.

Harold L. Swartz

Harold L. Swartz, age 75, of South Whitley, died at 1:09 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City. He was born in Union Township, Columbia City, on October 13, 1927 to Charles Clarence and Eva Blanche (George) Swartz.

He was educated in the Whitley County School System and he married Evelyn J. Gradeless on July 2, 1948 at St. John's Lutheran Church. A lifetime Whitley County resident, he retired from Gripco in 1985 as a machinist. His memberships included St. John's Lutheran Church, Eagles Lodge #1906 and Columbia City Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; 2 daughters, Mrs. John (Roxanna) Hodges of Big Piney, WY and Mrs. Debra (Veryl) Whaley of Columbia City; 2 sons, Ronald E. Swartz of Mesquite, NV and David A. Swartz of Pleasant Lake, IN; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles Swartz and Eva Swartz-Smith.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2465 W. Keiser Road, Columbia City, with Pastor David Mommens officiating. Burial will be at Nolt Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Swartz to South Whitley Library or St. John's Lutheran Church building fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Betty J. Pontzius

Betty J. Pontzius, age 58, of Columbia City, died at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday June 14, 2003 at Parkview Whitley Hospital. She was born in Warsaw, IN on October 9, 1944 to Monroe and Isabel (Odiorne) Kitson.

Graduating from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1963, she also attended Purdue University for one year. She married Roy W. Pontzius on October 9, 1964 at the Columbia City United Methodist Church. A lifetime resident of Kosciusko and Whitley County, she was employed as a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service since 1982 and she formerly owned and worked as a seamstress at Stitch-N-Knit, Columbia City. A member, choir member, and former trustee of Columbia City United Methodist Church, she also was a union steward for the Rural Letter Carrier Association.

Survivors include her husband, Roy W. of Columbia City; a daughter, Robin (John) Kleiman of Boswell, IN; a son, Dane (Leah) Pontzius of Orlando, FL; her mother, Isabel Bishop of Columbia City; a sister, Penny Snyder of Columbia City; a brother, Ray (Michelle) Kitson of Columbia City; 2 grandchildren, Lauren Kleiman and Ethan Pontzius. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Ann, a son, Jay Edward, her father, Monroe, and a grandson, Luke Gabriel Pontzius.

Visitation will be from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at Columbia City United Methodist Church, 605 N. Forest Parkway, Columbia City, with Pastor C. Jack Scott officiating and Pastor J. Phillip Blake assisting. Burial will be at Blue River Cemetery. Memorial bequests may be given in memory of Mrs. Pontzius to Columbia City United Methodist Church Building Fund, American Cancer Society Whitley County, or CCJHS Class of 1963 Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Ramon L. Sanderson

Ramon L. Sanderson, age 69, of 4335 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809 died at 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2003 at the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne, IN.

He was born in Fort Wayne, Allen County, IN on September 25, 1933 to Theodore and Eva (Baumgartner) Sanderson. He spent his entire lifetime in Allen County, IN. He attended Central High School, Fort Wayne, IN through the 10th grade. He married Barbara L. Herron on April 29, 1961 in Fort Wayne, IN. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1956-1958 where he was stationed in the Hawaiian Islands. He had worked at the International Harvester, Fort Wayne, IN for 24 years.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara L. of Fort Wayne, IN; 3 sons, Ramon L. (Denise) Sanderson,
Paulding, OH, Steven R. (Sandra) Sanderson, Quincey, IL and Byron E. (Flo) E. Graves, Avilla, IN; 3 daughters, Rosalie Diane (Bernard) Squires of Columbia City, IN, Mildred (John) Bradbury of Columbia City, IN and Faith Teel of Cromwell, IN. 4 sisters, Jackie (Robert) Sprunger, Rochelle (Jerry) Murphy, Karen (George) Wilson and Sharon (Lloyd) Osborne all of Fort Wayne, IN. 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Theodore L. Sanderson and 1 granddaughter, Cynthia Diane Squires and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City, IN. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at the funeral home with Pastor Bernie Squires of the Grace Baptist Church, Columbia City, IN officiating. Burial will be at the Lindenwood Cemetery, Inc., West Main Street, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorials may be given in Mr. Sanderson's memory to the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
