Clarence Fields
Clarence Emmerson Fields, 77, of Newburgh, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at Columbia Health Care Facility in Evansville of complications of Alzheimer's disease.
He retired in 1987 from the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp. after 37 years.
He taught industrial arts, was an assistant principal and area industrial institute supervisor. He taught at Lincoln, Fulton and Helfrich Park schools and in North Carolina.
He was a professional photographer.
He was a 1941 graduate of Lincoln High School, earned his bachelor's degree from Hampton University, a master's degree from Indiana State University and an educational administration degree from the University of Evansville.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, served as a trustee and received the church's Faithful Years of Service award in 1986.
He was the first black Eagle Scout in Evansville and served as chairman of Big Bend District Boy Scouts from 1982 to 1984. He was a Cub Scout leader and Cub Scout master at his church.
He was a member of the Tradesman Club and the Evansville Runners Club, where he won trophies in road races and won numerous medals as a participant in the River City and White River Senior Citizens games.
He was past president of the Breakfast Optimist Club, life member of the NAACP and member of Lincoln Senior Choir and sang with several choirs in the Evansville area.
He received the Omega Psi Phi Omega Through the Years award in 1996, its Citizen of the Year award in 1989 and Boy Scouts Silver Beaver, Clarence Fields, Whitney Young and Outstanding Leadership Chairman of Big Bend awards.
Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Loretta (Owens); a daughter, Joclair Lehman of San Diego; a son, Clarence Kirby of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Gardner of Lynchburg, Va.; three grandchildren, Chelsa and Michael Kirby and Katelyn Lehman; and a niece and nephew.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, the Rev. John Thorson officiating, with burial in Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.
John Storey
John Robert Story, 59, of Forsyth, Ga., formerly of Evansville and Mount Vernon, Ind., died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at the Macon Hospital in Macon, Ga., of head injuries from an accidental fall on the job.
He was a carpenter and a Marine veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Jane; four daughters, Shannon White and Julie Lawton, both of Evansville, Annette Smith and Anita Craig, both of Ackworth, Ga.; four sons, John Robert Jr., Justin Wayne and Jeffrey Thomas, all of Forsyth and Robert Jon of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Linda Faye Mortimer of Chandler, Ind., and Delores Jean Peckenpaugh of Indiana; three brothers, Bobby and Donald Wayne, both of Indiana and Joe of Ellenwood, Ga.; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The Monroe County Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements in Forsyth.
Lois Miller
Lois (Pipes) Miller, 87, of Evansville, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center of a subdural hematoma.
She worked at F.W. Woolworth for 20 years and was a 50-year member of East Side Christian Church.
Surviving are two sons, Bill E. of Evansville and Robert L. of Maryland Heights, Mo.; three grandchildren, Susan Lynn Hurt and Nicholas and Elliott Miller; and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Lester, died in June.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Leslie H. McKown officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Nancy Watson
Nancy S. (Salveter) Watson, 73, of Evansville, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at Good Samaritan Home.
She retired as the owner of The Beverage Shoppe, was a 1950 graduate of the University of Missouri with a degree in education and a lifelong member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school.
She was a golfer and member of Rolling Hills Country Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Laura (Shoup) Tschabold of McMinnville, Ore.; a son, Kenneth Shoup of Evansville; her stepmother, Marie Salveter of Green Valley, Ariz.; two brothers, Robert Salveter of Marion, Ind., and Steve Salveter of Los Altos, Calif.; a stepbrother, Guy Davis of Honolulu; three grandchildren, Chris Shoup and Matt and Katie Tschabold; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Dennis Davenport officiating, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dorothy I. Young
Dorothy I. (Johnson) Young, 87, of Northbrook, Ill., formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Covenant Village in Northbrook.
She worked as a registered nurse before marrying Dr. Warren W. Young in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She was a graduate of Roseland Hospital School of Nursing.
She lived in Evansville from 1974 until July of this year, when she moved to Northbrook.
She was a lifelong member of Grace Methodist Church in Chicago and attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church during her years in Evansville. She was president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Chicago Medical Society.
Surviving are her son, Warren Jr. of Mundelein, Ill.; and three grandsons, Peter, Warren III and Patrick.
Memorial services are pending. Burial was in Des Plaines, Ill. N.H. Scott Hebblewaite Funeral Home in Glenview, Ill., handled the arrangements.

Joe Odom
Joe Oliver Odom, 62, of Woodburn, Ky., father of Carol Whitlock of Evansville, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, in Henderson, Ky., of complications of diabetes..
He was a truck driver for the Creek Trucking Co. for 45 years and a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cross Plains, Tenn., and the Ebony Club.
Also surviving are his wife, Mildred (Parrish); two daughters, Frances Baker of Henderson and Vanessa Holland Franklin of Woodburn; a son, Robert Campbell of Henderson; five sisters, Virginia Cook, Beulah Bunton and Marie Stalling, all of Bowling Green, Ky., Barbara Bunton of Rochester, N.Y., and Linda Kirkman of Union City, Ga.; two brothers, Herbert Sr. of Blue Level, Ky., and David of Bowling Green; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cross Plains, Tenn., with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.
Max Ralston
Max Ralston, 47, of Evansville, formerly of Marion, Ohio, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at the Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis of complications of cancer.
He worked as a research and development analyst for Ascension Health in Evansville and was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Scottish Rite and Army Intelligence Corps.
Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Deborah (Logan); two daughters, Kristy Goodwin of West Mansfield, Ohio, and Allyson Roth of Evansville; his mother, Alberta (Conley) Ralston; a sister, Mona Allman of Gahanna, Ohio; two brothers, Creighton of Westerville, Ohio, and Kyle of Marion, Ohio; two grandchildren, Logan Gregory and Madalyn Roth; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors in Marion, Ohio, with burial in Grand Prairie Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Huberta Kippenbrock
JASPER - Huberta (Baunach) Kippenbrock, 81, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center.
She retired as a sales clerk from Hoffman House, the former Lorey's Fashions. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and St. Ann's Society.
Surviving are three sisters, Cornelia Stemle, Bernadette Grannan and Constance Pfeffer, all of Jasper; nieces and nephews; and James R. Lechner and Beverly Werner, who cared for her.
Her husband, Jerome, died in March.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. EST Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with entombment in Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel, with a rosary at 3 p.m.
