Marabelle Nape, 77, of 300 East Collins Street, Lot 15, Columbia City, IN 46725 passed away at 1:20 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2002 at the Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Columbia City, IN. Mrs. Nape and her brother had been involved in a 2 car accident on US 30 and Butt Road in Allen County, IN about 2 weeks ago.

She was born in Noble County, IN on December 12, 1924 to Charles and Pearl (Clingerman) Rosenogle. She attended school at the Wolf Lake High School, Wolf Lake, IN. She was married to Harry L. "Bud" Nape, a native of Carrollton, OH on April 29, 1958 in Michigan City, IN. She was reared in Noble County, IN and moved to Michigan City, IN in 1942 where she resided 30 years before coming to thier lake home in Etna-Troy Township, Whitley County in 1972. In 1999 she moved into Columbia City.

She was first employed at Alcoils, Columbia City, IN from 1973-1979 and then she retired from the Columbia City Nursing Home in December 1986 where she had been employed since 1979. Her memberships include both the Ealges Lodge #1906 and Loyal Order of Moose #1063 Auxillaries, Columbia City, IN.

She is survived by one step daughter, Amy Palmer of Akron, OH and 3 step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren. One brother, Walter Rosenogle of Columbia City, IN and one sister, Cecile Roberson of Churubusco, IN.

She in preceded in death by her parents and her husband Harry L. "Bud" Nape who died on January 28, 1996 at his Etna-Troy home. Also preceding her death is 3 sisters Madeline Roberson, Dorothy Arndt and Helen Brunner and 2 brothers Richard and James Rosenogle.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2002 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held at 10:00a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at the funeral home with Pastor Orlo Hibbs a retired United Methodist pastor officiating. Burial will be at the Thorn Cemetery, Ormas, Noble County, IN.

Carol J. Eby, 67, of 2131 East Bair Road, Columbia City, IN 46725 died on Wednesday, February 06, 2002 at 9:55 p.m. at her Tri-Lakes residence. She had been in failing health for the past several months.

She was born on April 18, 1934 to Raymond E. and Delilah M. (Miller) Wolferman. Mrs. Eby lived in the New Paris and Goshen, IN areas until 1997 when she moved to her lake home in Thorncreek Township, Columbia City, IN. She retired as the bookkeeper of the Elkhart County Parks Department, Goshen, IN after 23 years of service.

She married Dale E. Eby on July 31, 1976 in Syracuse, IN.

She is survived by her husband, Dale E. Eby, 2131 East Bair Road, Columbia City, IN. Two sisters, Lenna (Kenneth) Traylor, 1795 East Bair Road, Columbia City, IN 46725 and Cynthia Damron of Elkhart, IN. 3 step sons, Ronald Eby of San Antonio, TX, Randall Eby of Prescott, AZ and Roger Eby of Elkhart, IN. Her mother also survives, Delilah M. Wolferman, 904 Blue River Drive, Columbia City, IN 46725. She is preceded in death by her father Raymond Wolferman.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2002 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN with Pastor Barry Faucett of the New Hope Wesleyan Church, Columbia City, IN officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Memorial donations may be given in Mrs. Eby memory to either the Parkview Whitley Home Health Care and Hospice or to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Lu B. Ikerd, 67, of 5837 South Woodland Lane, Sellers Lake, Warsaw, IN 46580 died at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2002 at her son's home. She was born in West Unity, OH on December 30, 1934 to Charles and Nellie (Flory) Zuver.

She attended school in West Unity, OH and then she married Donald C. Ikerd on March 26, 1954 in Biloxi, Mississippi. After being reared in Ohio she lived in Biloxi, MS, Sharon, PA, Bellville, MI, Los Angeles County, CA, back to West Unity, OH and then she moved to New Haven, IN for 18 years and then lived short periods of time in Arizona, California and then for the past 15 years she has lived at her Seller's Lake home. She was a member of the Pierceton American Legion Post #258 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Donald C. Ikerd of Warsaw, IN. 2 sons, Joseph W. Ikerd of New Haven, IN and Jeffery W. (Susan) Ikerd of Columbia City, IN. 2 daughters, Jackie F. (David) Conser and Connie R. Ikerd both of Fort Wayne, IN. 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. 2 sisters Betty Renard of West Unity, OH and Blanche Roe of Adrian, MI. 1 brother, Bill Zuver of Washington, PA.

She is preceded in death by her parents and 4 brothers, Paul, Charles "Brownie", Guy and Joe Zuver and one great-granddughter Destiny Ikerd.

Visitation will be after noon Monday, February 11, 2002 until the hour of the funeral services which will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN with Pastor John Cummings of the Community Bible Church, officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Michael Kent Coulter, age 53, of 4905 East Duffin Street, Columbia City, IN 46725, died on Friday, March 22, 2002 at 3:00 p.m at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past 8 months. He was born on December 20, 1948 in Fort Wayne, Allen County, IN to Herschel Evan and Helen Louise (LaRue) Coulter. He was reared in Whitley County and spent his entire lifetime here. He graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1967 and served with the United States Army in Vietnam from 1968 until 1970.

He married Linda Lou McClure on February 8, 1969 in Columbia City, IN by the late Pastor Graham L. Kleespie. He was employed at Dana Weatherhead Tool and retired after 34 years of service. He was currently employed at Quality Inspection and Gauge, Columbia City, IN.

He was a member of Columbia City American Legion Post #98 and the Whitley County Coon Hunters Association.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Lou Coulter, Columbia City, IN; a daughter, Megan Renee Coulter, Columbia City; three sisters Lois (Carl) Downing, Carol (Stephen) Kosteck, and Joy (Walter) Crowder all from Columbia City; one brother, Russell Lynn Coulter, Columbia City; one step-sister, Deloris Messman, Fremont, IN, and two step-brothers, LeRoy Coulter and Paul Coulter, Columbia City, IN; and one grandson, Jordan Michael Coulter, Churubusco, IN.

He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Edward Coulter, on July 23, 2001, a sister, Linda Clifford, and his parents.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2002 from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN 46725. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 25, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Faucett of New Hope Wesleyan Church, Columbia City, IN, officiating. Burial will be at the Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Union Township, Coesse, immediately following the funeral service with graveside military rites being conducted by the American Legion Post #98. Memorial bequests may be made to donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Helen Ellen Eberhard, age 85, formerly of Columbia City, IN and since December 1997 she has resided in southern California near her children, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, April 28, 2002 at the Corona Regional Medical Center, 800 South Main Street, Corona, CA.

She was born on March 1, 1917 to LeRoy Ira and Cora May (Sroufe) Baker. She graduated from South Whitley High School with the Class of 1936. Mrs. Eberhard was reared in Washington Township, Whitley County, Mishawaka and South Whitley, IN. In 1955 she moved from Larwill, IN to Los Angleses, CA and in 1969 until 1978 she resided back in Columbia City then returned to Norwalk, CA in 1978 and lived there until 1983 when she came back to Whitley County and resided on South Columbia Parkway, Columbia City, IN until her health failed and she moved in 1998 to California to be near her children.

She married Carl L. Eberhard on April 9, 1939 in North Manchester, IN by the late Rev. Noah C. McCoy of the United Brethren Church. As a young lady she was employed at the former Blue Bell, Inc. in Columbia CIty. She later was employed by the former Gripco Fasteners, South Whitley, IN and while she lived in California she worked as a cafeteria manager for the Los Angeles Public Schools. She retired in 1983 when she moved back to Columbia City.

Her memberships include a charter membership to the Columbia City Women of the Moose, former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and member of the auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1906, Columbia City.

She is survived by 1 son, Carl LeRoy (Marla) Eberhard, II of Rialto, CA; 1 daughter, Sue Ellen Kobuki of Tustin, CA. 3 grandsons, Carl LeRoy Eberhard III, Steven Eberhard and Jeffery Kobuki; 1 grand daughter Jennifer Kobuki and 1 sister, Annabelle Perkins of Pierceton, IN.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl LeRoy Eberhard and 2 brothers Harold O. Baker and Ralph E. Baker who died a few hours before her death.

She and her brother's joint visitation will be held from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN, with joint funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002 at the funeral home with Pastor Ronald C. Scharfe of the Blue River Community Church, Columbia City, IN and Pastor Curtiss Johnson retired pastor of the Community Bible Church, Columbia City, IN. Mrs. Eberhards's graveside services will be held first at South Park Cemetery Annex, Columbia City, IN and immediately following her interment the graveside service for Mr. Baker will be held at South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley, IN.

Twilight memorial services will be conducted by the auxiliary members of both the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #1906 at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at the funeral home. Memorial bequest may be given in Mrs. Eberhard's memory to the Parkview Whitley Home Health Care and Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Jack Eugene Ewing, age 64, of 791 Dogwood Drive, Columbia City, IN died at 4:12 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past few months.

He was born in Whitley County, IN on January 5, 1938 to Albert Delbert and Dorothy M. (Gay) Ewing. He graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1956 and attended General Electric Apprentice School and also took several continuing education classes at Purdue University.

He has lived his entire life in Columbia City, IN except for 2 brief periods when he lived in Fort Wayne, IN. He married at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City, IN to Joanna M. Parent on July 19, 1958 by Father Louis Zenz. He worked in various tool shops and retired after 20 years from United Technology, Columbia City, IN where he was a Quality Control Manager. He also owned Ewing's Broasted Chicken and ran an Auction House where he held auctions every week. The past 9 years he has been co-owner of E Tooling, Inc., Columbia City, IN along with his wife and his sons.

He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City, IN where he was Parish Council President for 2001-2002 and also active in Christ Renews It's Parish, the Columbia City Eagles Lodge #1906 and a former member of the Columbia City Jaycee's where he held all offices and also was a former Regional Vice-President.

He is survived by his wife, Joanna M. Ewing of Columbia City, IN; one daughter, Jacqueline Sue Lehman of Fort Wayne, IN and 2 sons, Brian E. (Debbie) Ewing of South Whitley, IN and Kevin W. (Peggy) Ewing of Columbia City, IN; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. One brother, Marvin "Butch" (Dianna) Ewing of Columbia City, IN and one sister, Mary (Charles Milton) Krider of Columbia City, IN.

He is preceded in death by his parents Albert Delbert and Dorothy M. Gay Ewing and twin grandsons Trever & Cory Ewing.

Visitation will be held from 2-8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2002 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN with the Rosary service held at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2002 at the funeral home. There will be visitation at the church on Saturday, July 20, 2002 after 9:00 a.m. The funeral mass will be held 10:00 a. m. on Saturday, July 20, 2002 at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 315 South Line Street, Columbia City, IN with Father Dale Bauman and Deacon Joseph Zickgraf officiating. Burial will be at the St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Cemetery, Columbia City, IN. Memorial donations may be given in Mr. Ewing's memory to either the Parkview Whitley Hospice, masses to St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church or St. Paul of the Cross Senior Youth Group % George Crowe.

Gladys Leona Albert, age 92, formerly of 820 S 425 W, Columbia City, IN 46725 died on Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at 12:05 p.m at the Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Columbia City, IN where she had resided since 1995.

She was born in South Whitley, IN on June 10, 1910 to John L. and Effie A. (Jenkins) Kreider. She attended the Kreider School, Cleveland Twp. and the South Whitley High School and was married on August 31, 1929 in Columbia City, IN to Arthur L. Albert. Mrs. Albert spent her entire lifetime in Whitley County, IN.

She retired from the Columbia City Blue Bell, Inc. after 40 years of employment and she also assisted her husband on their family farm.

She is survived by one half brother John V. Kreider, South Whitley, IN and 9 neices and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died on July 12, 1993, step mother, Chloe Ethel Kreider, sisters, Mary Kreider, age 2, Hulda Rivett, Norma Baublit, Velma Hartle and half sister Liliah Kreider.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 Friday, July 26, 2002 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2002 11:00 a.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City, IN with Pastor Curtiss Johnson retired pastor of the Community Bible Church, Columbia City, IN. Burial will be at the Nolt Cemetery.

Carl Edward Hawn, 77, of 412 South Chauncey Street, Columbia City, IN 46725 died at 4:45 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2002 at the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne, IN. He had been in failing health for the past few months.

He was born in Toledo, OH on July 27, 1925 to Russell LeRoy "Roy" and Clelo Catherine (Killian) Hawn. At the age of 2 he and his parents moved from Toledo, OH to a family fram in Washington Twp., Whitley County, IN. He has resided the remainder of his life in Columbia City, IN.

He graduated from Washington Center High School, Columbia City, IN and married Betty Deloris Foster on November 27, 1948 at the Methodist Church, Columbia City, IN. He was a retired automobile mechanic, who has worked in the service department of several Whitley County new car dealerships as well as in various specialty service shops in the area. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving as a carpenter's mate 3rd Class (CB) from October 26, 1943 to April 19, 1946.
He was a member and past officer of the Independent Order of Odd Fellow Lodge and a 51 year member of Post 98 American Legion, Columbia City, IN.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Deloris Hawn of Columbia City, IN; 2 daughters, Carla (John) Clifford, Columbia City, IN and Debora Sheets, Tampa, FL; one son, Ronald (Kim) Hawn of Fort Wayne, IN; 2 sisters, Annetta Phillips of Columbia City, IN and Clara Ellen (Allen) Fugate of South Whitley. 6 grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents Russell LeRoy "Roy" Hawn and Clelo Catherine (Killian) Hawn one sister Hildreth Wince and 2 brothers Russell C. and Arlo Ivan Hawn.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 29, 2002 from 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Karen Biddle of the West Point United Methodist Church and Pastor Orlo Hibbs retired pastor of the church. Burial will be at the Stough Cemetery, Columbia City, IN with the Columbia City American Legion Post #98 providing graveside military rites. Memorial donations may be given in Mr. Hawn's memory to Parkview Whitley Home Health Care, Columbia City, IN. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Elma May Hile, age 90, of 105 West North Park Drive, Columbia City, IN died at 7:02 a.m. at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN on Wednesday, September 18, 2002. She was born in Luton, IA on May 5, 1912 to Hollis and Mary (Rex) Boggs.

In 1926, Mrs. Hile came to Kimmell, Noble Couty, Indiana from Luton, IA where she had been reared. She was educated at Bug Island School and Wolf Lake High School. She moved from Kimmell in 1933 to a farm in Columbia Township, Whitley County, and from there she came to Columbia City, IN in 1965. Her first residence was on North Chauncey Street and she has lived at her West North Park Drive address since 1979.

Mrs. Hile worked as a housekeeper for four years for Edgar Strouse and the next four years in the production of work and recreation clothing at the former Blue Bell, Inc. factory and at the former Raupher's Store, where she was a candy counter sales person. In 1943, she went to work in the Kyser Winder Division of General Electric Co., Fort Wayne, IN and retired from there in 1973.

She was a member of the South Whitley Church of God, the Thorncreek Aid Society, the General Electric Company's Elex Club and a life member of the Thorncreek Home Demonstration Club.

Her first marriage was to Lewis Smith in 1928 at the parsonage of the Big Lake Church of God. Her second marriage was to Millard Keiser, a native of Columbia Township, Whitley County, on August 12, 1933 in Valparaiso, IN. Mr. Keiser expired May 25, 1977 in Columbia City, IN. Her third marriage was to Harvey J. Hile of Wolf Lake, Noble County, IN on January 1, 1979 in Big Lake Church of God, Columbia City, IN.

She is survived by her husband, Harvey, of Columbia City, IN; a step-son, Paul H. (Bonnie) Hile from Columbia City, IN; a step-daughter, Muriel (Ron L.) McNeal, from Churubusco, IN; a daughter-in-law, LaVonne Smith, from Lakeland, FL; 4 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ann and Hollis E. Boggs; her first husband, Lewis Smith; her second husband, Millard Keiser; a son, Charles E. Smith; two brothers, Arlo and Paul Boggs; and two sisters, Reva Bucks and Rozella Kuhn.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and after 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2002 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor J. Phillip Blake, Columbia City, IN and Interim Pastor of the South Whitley Church of God officiating. Burial will be at Nolt Cemetery, 2400 S. Washington Road, Columbia City, IN. Memorials may be given to Parkview Whitley Home Health Care and Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Doris S. Wolfe, age 83, of 206 Swihart Street, Columbia City, IN died at 10:47 a.m. on Wednesday September 25, 2002 at the Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN. She was born in Muncie, IN on May 15, 1919 to Albert Garfield and Mary Frances (Stewart) Mace. Her family moved to Wolf Lake, IN and resided there until she was six years old. She then moved to Columbia City, IN where she spent her entire adult lifetime.

She graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1936. She married Marshall "Mike" H. Wolfe on June 23, 1946 in Coesse United Methodist Church. She was employed by Blue Bell, as a secretary for Charles Yeager Implement, Fibre Form and Weatherhead of Columbia City. She was a member of the Columbia City Auxiliaries of VFW, Eagles Lodge #1906, American Legion #98, and the United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband; 3 daughters, Sally (Donald) Souder of Webster Groves, MO, Roberta J. Meagher and Lana L. (Richard Hull) Hendry of Columbia City, IN; a sister, Carol Brandt of Columbia City, IN;4 granddaughters, Tamara Dyson and Michelle Hendry of Columbia City, IN, Sonja Wink of Toronto, ON, CAN, Katheia Tucker of Charleston, SC;2 grandsons, Michael Meagher of Charleston, SC and Troy Shifflett of Columbia City, IN; 5 great-granddaughters, Christina Woodward, Jade and Kayla Hendry of Columbia City, IN. Brittney Meagher of Charleston, SC, and Tara Wink of Toronto, ON, CAN; 5 great-grandsons, Alex and Jason Tucker of Charleston, SC, Dean Dyson and Zach Shifflett of Columbia City, IN, and Scott Wink, Toronto, ON, CAN; a great-great-grandchild, Madison Woodward of Columbia City, IN.

Preceding her in death are her parents; 5 sisters, Cleo and Crystal Mace, Janet Stookey, Dorothy Murphy, and Pearl Gravley; 5 brothers, Bert, Harold, Bob, Ralph and Kenny Mace.

Private family viewing is at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2002 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home. A public graveside service is at 2 p.m. at Eberhard Lutheran Cemetery, 2300 West Keiser Road, Columbia Township, Columbia City, IN with Pastor John Cummings, Community Bible Church, officiating. Memorial bequests are to Eye Research for Macular Degeneration.
