Terry Lee Burnworth, age 43, 105 E. Market St., Apt. B, South Whitley, IN 46787 died at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2002 at his residence. He was born on September 8, 1959 in Columbia City, IN.
Terry's formative years were spent with his family on a farm near Pierceton, IN. He graduated from Whitko High School with the Class of 1980. He served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He lived in Fort Worth, TX for 18 years and worked as a truck driver for Fort Worth Wire and Cable. For the last three years, he has lived in South Whitley, IN and he has been employed as a painter and fabricator for Johnson Brothers Sign Company of South Whitley, IN.
He is survived by his parents, Larry L. and Lorretta J. (Johnson) Burnworth of Pierceton, IN; two brothers, Kenny W. Burnworth of Bourbon, IN and Doyle L. (Vicki) Burnworth of South Whitley; one sister, Teresa A. (Todd Baker) Boggs of Warsaw, IN; four nieces and three nephews, Chris and Danielle Burnworth of Pierceton, Amber Burnworth of South Whitley, Joni (Simon) Rose and Joshua Hatton of South Whitley, Tasia and Kyle Boggs of Warsaw, IN; one great nephew, Tylar Hatton-Shaw of Columbia City, IN
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Perry and Helen Johnson, and Ozro and Freeda Burnworth.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2002 from 4 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Dan Berry, from Warsaw Wesleyan Church, officiating. Burial will be at the Washington Union Cemetery, State Road 13 and Old U.S. 30, Kosciusko Co., following the funeral service. Memorial bequests may be made to the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Victor Wayne Hoffman, age 42, of 3419 Portage Blvd., Apartment #9, Fort Wayne, IN 46802 died on Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at his residence. He was born on January 23, 1961 to Wayne L. and Sharon Elaine (Bubp) Hoffman in Columbia City, IN. He graduated with the Class of 1979 from Churubusco High School, Churubusco, IN. He spent his earlier years in Churubusco and the past 20 years in Fort Wayne, IN. He was a former employee of Classic Stereo and Wayne Paper Box Company both of Fort Wayne, IN.

Survivors include his father, Wayne L. Hoffman of Springfield, OH; mother, Sharon E. Burgo of Pines, CO; 1 uncle Fred Bubp, Fort Wayne, IN 2 brothers, Mitch (Teresa) Hoffman of Columbia City, IN and John (Kimberly) Hoffman of Springfield, OH; a sister, Michelle (Rick) Barber of Thornton, CO; grandmother Marie Linville, Fairborn, OH. Preceding him in death is a brother, Michael G. Hoffman who died February 15, 1996, grandfathers, Clyde Bubp and Wilson Hoffman, grandmother, Opal Bradbury and a step-grandfather, George Linville.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2003 after 1:00 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Grable of the Sugar Grove Church of God officiating. Burial will be in the South Park Annex Cemetery, Columbia City, IN. Memorial donations may be given in his memory to the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Faith Ellen Karst, age 87, of 411 North Wolf Road and formerly of 199 E 300 N, Columbia City, IN 46725 died at 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2003 at the Oaks Living Center, Columbia City, IN where she had resided since 1999. She was born in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, IN on February 17, 1916 to Clarence and Effie Bell (Appleton) Judd.

She attended Thorncreek Township School. She married Julius Sylvester "Toot" Karst on November 9, 1946 in Columbia City by Pastor Marion Shroyer in his home. She spent her entire lifetime in the Columbia City area.

She assisted her husband on the family farm and she was a homemaker and seamstress. As a young lady, she worked at Blue Bell for 10 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Robert (Kathy Sue) Nicodemus, Columbia City, IN and 1 granddaughter, Holly M. Nicodemus, Columbia City, IN. Sisters, Edith Burnworth, Columbia City, IN and Wilma Crabill, Garrett, IN; 1 brother Franklin L. Judd, New York, NY.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Julius S. Karst, who died on November 15, 2001 and 3 sisters, Hazel E. Judd, Eileen Moore, Elma, 8 brothers, Ralph E., Kenneth D., Glen E., Dale, Gerald, Lester, Harrold, and Donald Eugene Judd.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday April 30, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2003 with Pastor Karen Biddle of the West Point United Methodist Church, Columbia City, IN officiating. Burial will be at the Nolt Cemetery, Columbia City, IN. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Karst memory to The Oaks Living Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Jeanette L. Weirick, age 72, of 2950 West Old Trail Road, Columbia City, IN 46725 died at 1:25 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2003 at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Inc., Columbia City, IN. She was born in Loraine, Etna Troy Township, Whitley County, IN on October 25, 1930 to Glen and Golda Blanchard (Stapels) Foster.

She received her education at the former Columbia City West Ward School and she spent her entire lifetime in the Columbia City area. She married James R. Weirick, Sr. on March 1, 1947 in Larwill, IN. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church, War Mothers and a charter member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Ruth Rebekah Lodge. She was a homemaker and had also worked earlier at the Blue Bell Company and Weatherhead both in Columbia City.

She is survived by husband, James R. Weirick, Sr., Columbia City, IN; 2 sons, Lynn A. (Carlene) and James R. (Donna) Weirick, Jr. both of Columbia City, IN and 1 daughter, Brenda Jagger, Larwill, IN; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. 1 sister, Betty Hawn, of Columbia City, IN and 1 brother, Bill Foster, Reno, NV. She is preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister, Margaret Foster.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 on Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at the funeral home with Pastor Karen Biddle of the West Point United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at the Stough Cemetery, Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, IN. Memorial bequests may be given in Mrs. Weirick's memory to the donor's choice.

Lela P. Ellenwood, age 94, of South Whitley, IN died at 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2003 at University Park Nursing Center, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born in Convoy, OH on October 23, 1908 to William and Lorena (Bischoff) Reidenbach. She graduated with the Class of 1925 from Convoy High School.

In 1925, she moved from Convoy, OH to Fort Wayne, IN where she remained until her death. She married Orville W. Ellenwood on April 10, 1930. Prior to 1958, she was employed by Wolf and Dessauer, and she retired from Fort Wayne City Utilities in 1970. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne.

Survivors include a daughter, Marcia (Ray) Tinkel of South Whitley; a son, Richard (Penny) Ellenwood from Fort Wayne; a son-in-law, Robert (Nancy) Passwater from Big Long Lake, Noble County, IN; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Orville who died in 1957, a daughter, Karen Passwater, 4 sisters, Ora Beck, Lucille May, Willie Bower, and Winnie Hayhurst, and 3 brothers, Otto, Norman and William Reidenbach.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27th at the funeral home with Chaplain Teresa Bucher from Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice officiating. Private family burial services will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorial bequests may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Ilean Mable Hippensteel, age 85, formerly of 5165 W 450 S, Albion, IN 46701 died at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2003 at the Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN. She was born on September 27, 1917 in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, IN to Manuel and Alma (Gaerte) Smith.

She attended the Smith School and was reared in Thorncreek Township. After her marriage to Gale G. Hippensteel on July 13, 1941 in Plymouth, IN she moved to Noble County where she spent the remainder of her lifetime, until her health failed and she entered the nursing home. She first worked at the Blue Bell Company and later as a assembler for Lyall Electric.

She is survived by 1 son, Robert (Cindy) Hippensteel of Albion, IN; 3 daughters, Mrs. Darrell (Sandra) Snider of Zephyrhills, FL, Deanna S. Briggs of Minneapolis, MN and Mrs. Von (Karen) Bridegam of Columbia City, IN. 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren also survive. 1 sister, Betty Krom of South Whitley, IN.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gale G. Hippensteel who died on December 16, 1976, 4 sisters, Ethel Holt, Cherl Adkins, Dorothy Cleland and Edith Geyer; 3 brothers, Franklin, Lewis and Otto Smith.

Visitation will be held from 2-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2003 with Pastor Lynn English, of the First Church of God Church officiating. Burial will be at the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam, Noble County, IN. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Hippensteel's memory to the donor's choice.

Paul E. Clifford, age 77, died at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at The Oaks in Columbia City, IN. He was born in Allen County, IN on September 24, 1925 to Oscar and Hazel (Felger) Clifford. He graduated with the Class of 1944 from Coesse High School.

A World War II veteran, he served in the Navy from 1943 to 1947. He married Hildreth Zinn on April 2, 1949 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne, IN. A resident of Whitley County his whole life, he was employed for 15 years by Essex Wire, Fort Wayne, IN, he retired in 1990 from Union Township School with 24 years in the maintenance department, and he was also employed by John's Auto Correction, Columbia City, IN.

He was a Coesse Boy Scout Leader for Troop #88, a member of the Coesse United Methodist Church, Columbia City American Legion Post #98, Columbia City Eagles Lodge #1906, and a charter member of the Union Township Fire Department who awarded him with a 50 year plaque for service.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra (Anthony) Zickgraf of Columbia City and Rita (Dennis) Wolfe of Larwill; a son, John (Carla) Clifford of Columbia City; 5 grandchildren; 5 brothers, Robert Clifford of Larwill, IN; Charles Clifford of Auburn, IN, Frederick and Kenny Clifford both of Columbia City, and Jerry Clifford of Waterloo, IN; and a sister, Joan Bennett of Spring City, TN. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Hildreth who died October 3, 1989, and a brother, Dick Clifford.

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with Pastor Jeff Boyles from the Coesse United Methodist Church officiating. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2003 at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #98 with burial at Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Coesse. Memorials may be made in Mr. Clifford's memory to Columbia City High School Athletic Fund or Union Township Fire Department.

D. Joan Pretorius, age 70, of Columbia City, IN died at 3:03 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2003 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on October 5, 1932 to Ellis andMildred Louise (Pelkey) Miller in Fort Wayne, IN. She was educated in the Fort Wayne Community Schools.

She married her first husband, Marvin Taylor Patterson and her second marriage was to James Robert Pretorius. She retired from IBM in 1988 in the accounts receivable department. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church of Albion, IN and Moose Lodge of Wabash.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda (Lloyd) Hinsch of Fort Wayne, IN; Joan C. (Ed) Fry of Columbia City, and Carol Knach of Larwill; 1 step-daughter, Kay Grimsley of Batesville; 1 step-son, Bruce Pretorius of Wabash, IN; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Jim Dailey of Columbia City and Kenneth A. Miller of Hudson. Her parents, first husband who died in 1963, Marvin Patterson, second husband who died in 1991, James Pretorius, and her step-brother, Tom Dailey preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 20, 2003 from 3-7 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Monday, April 21, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor J. Phillip Blake from Columbia City United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Pretorius to Parkview Coronary Care Unit or the chapel. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Billy J. Espich, 78, resident of Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, died ------ at home. He had spent over a month a Parkview Memorial Hospital, then was transferred to Specialty Select Hospital at St. Joseph Hospital for an additional 5 months before returning home with his wife, Florence, for the last two months.

He was born May 25, 1924, the 10th of 11 children to Woody and Edna D. (Knight) Espich of Fort Wayne. He attended Central High School in Fort Wayne. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in November of 1942 at the age of 17. He flew 32 missions in World War II as a B-24 tailgunner and was awarded the Distinquished Flying Cross. He declined the Purple Heart because he feared that when it was presented to his mother, she would have believed he had been killed in action.

He was Honorably Discharged, October 1, 1945. On June 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Florence Bennett. They made their home in Fort Wayne until 1955 when they moved to Union Township, Whitley County. In 1991 they moved to Shriner Lake.

He retired from Falstaff Brewing Company with 25 years of service, then retired from Parkview Memorial Hospital after 10 years of service. During this time he opened the first pizza establishment in Columbia City, Billy's Pizza Casa.

He was a member of American Legion Post 98, the Operating Engineers Union, and a previous Board Member of the Tri-Lakes Property Owner's Association.

He was an active carpenter, plumber, electrician, fisherman, golfer, a friend to every neighbor adn most of all a very special husband and dad.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; 3 daughters, Judy (Dallas) King of Columbia City, Beverly Huff, Kokomo, and Marcia (Danny) Zeigler, Churubusco; 2 grandchildren, Kim Huff, Kokomo, and Aaron (Bambi LeFever) King. 2 Great Grandchildren, Savannah adn Zoe King, Churubusco. 2 sisters Maxine Minnich and Marlyn Shaw both of Fort Wayne.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 17, 2003 at 1 pm at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2003 from 5-7 p.m. at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, Covington Road, Fort Wayne also on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Memorials in Mr. Espich's memory may be made to Select Specialty Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

Joseph Snider, Jr. age 88, of 3375 East State Camp Road, Columbia City, IN 46725, died at 9:25 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne, IN where he had been a patient since March 31.

He was born on October 15, 1914 in Jefferson Township, Whitley County, IN to Joseph Snider, Sr. and Minnie May VanWey Snider. He attended school at Jefferson Township School and electrical engineering college for 6 months in Fort Wayne, IN. He spent his lifetime in Whitley County moving to Round Lake in 1982.

His first marriage was to Alice Eloise Foster on June 20, 1934 in Valparaiso, IN. She passed away on November 6, 1971 in Columbia City, IN. His second marriage was to Betty Gause on January 1, 1973 at Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Snider was employed as an electrical technician at Wolf & Dessauer, L.S. Ayres and Lehman's Electronics, Fort Wayne, W.A. Jones and Dick's TV of Columbia City and a general farmer. He was a member of Columbia City Masonic Lodge #189, the Mizpah Shrine, Whitley County Shriners, Eagles #1906. He attended Columbia City United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty A. Snider, Columbia City, IN; 1 son, Charles Duane (Imelda) Snider of Columbia City, IN; 2 daughters, Joann (Paul E.) Cox and Joyce (Loyal) Douglas, both of Columbia City; 2 step-daughters, Roberta Blain of Columbia City and Rebecca Fryback of Fort Wayne; 2 step-sons, Robert Gause of Columbia City and Nathan Gause of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 11step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Eloise, a daughter, Nancy Snider, his parents, a sister, Bessie, and a grandson, Michael A. Snider who died on April 27, 1980.

Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. A Masonic Twilight Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2003 with Pastor J. Phillip Blake from Columbia City United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorial donations may be given in Mr. Snider's memory to Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital.

James Edward Priest, age 68, of Columbia City, IN died on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at 7:50 a.m. at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, where he had been admitted on Tuesday. He was born in Allen County, IN on November 3, 1934 to Raymond and Ida (Bumgardner) Priest.

He completed his education in the Coesse schools. Employed by Wabash Magnetics, Huntington, IN for three years, he also worked and resided on the family farm until he moved to Meadowbrook Manor, Columbia City, in 1997. Never married, he was a member of the Dunfee Missionary Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Ray L. (Delores) Priest of Fort Wayne, IN and Maurice Priest of AZ, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois L. Rittenhouse who died on January 29, 2002 and a brother, Kenneth Priest.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with Pastor Jeff Spence from Dunfee Missionary Church officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
