Dean Edward Saeger
August 12, 1924 - March 27, 2010
Dean E. Saeger, 85, of Connersville, died early Saturday morning, March 27, 2010, at Caroleton Manor where he had been admitted on Thursday.
Dean was a native of Fremont, Nebraska, born August 12, 1924, the only child of Edward Frederick and Helen Marie Bobisud Saeger, both of whom preceded him in death. In 1940, he graduated from Elkhorn High School in Nebraska, followed by two years at the University of Nebraska. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 where he served with a medical unit that was present at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. After returning home, he was employed as a professional photographer at the Omaha Photo lab and eventually opened the Saeger Studio in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Dean was baptized and confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn, NE and had attended St. James Lutheran Church, Greenfield and Peace Lutheran Church, Connersville. He was an active member of the Elkhorn American Legion, the fire department, the Commercial Club, the Professional Photographers Association and had served as a Boy Scout leader. Following his retirement in 1992, he had lived in Greenfield and Connersville to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Dean is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Betty J. Haferman whom he married October 28, 1951 in Elkhorn, Nebraska; two children and their spouses: Mark Edward Saeger and Jamie of Pickerington, Ohio, Deanne Marie Boehmer and Mark of Connersville; grandchildren and their spouses: Brett Alan Bubalo and Lindsay of Pendleton, IN, Douglas James Bubalo and Michelle of McCordsville, IN, Michael Dean Bubalo and Barbara of Fishers, IN, Ryan Christopher Saeger of Pickerington, Ohio; a step-grandson: Blair Boehmer of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren: five year old Cole Alan Bubalo and one and a half year old Emma Rose Bubalo.
Private memorial services were conducted by Pastor Bill Peterson of the Peace Lutheran Church at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, IN. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Peace Lutheran Church or to the Fayette County Senior Center.

Kyle Joseph Rosenberger
November 29, 1982 - March 25, 2010
Kyle J. Rosenberger, 27, of Liberty, died Thursday, March 25, 2010 as a result of an automobile accident on Indiana Highway 44 East.
Born November 29, 1982 in Oxford to Christopher and Linda Napier Rosenberger, Kyle became an Eagle Scout in 1998, and graduated from Union County High School in 2001. On January 19, 2002, he married the former Alicia Ann Lester in Liberty at Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church. Kyle was a loving husband, father, and son. He was employed for seven years at Miles Richmond as a finish carpenter and had most recently worked for Really Cool Foods in Cambridge City. He enjoyed riding four-wheelers and woodworking, especially turning ink pens on his lathe. Kyle was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church.
He is survived by: his wife; a two-and-a-half year old daughter, Kyla Ann Rosenberger; a nine-month old son, Austin Christopher Rosenberger; his parents; a sister, Karen Ross, and her husband, Marcum, all of Liberty; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, including Lucas Christopher Ross.
Kyle was preceded in death by: his maternal grandparents, Oris “Bud” and Eleanor Napier; and paternal grandparents: Lawrence J. Rosenberger, Betty and Francis Russell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, with Pastor Rusty Hollingsworth of Greenwood United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dunlapsville Cemetery, Union County. Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday from 4 until 8 p.m. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the the Kyla and Austin Rosenberger Trust Fund.

Vernia Whitney Pennington
August 29, 1927 - March 20, 2010
Vernia Whitney Pennington, 82, of Connersville went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Fayette Regional Health System Emergency Room.
She was born August 29, 1927 to John Charles and Maude Osborn Damron in Wayne, West Virginia. She began working at a young age, but was proud of completing her education in 1974 by earning her GED. Vernia was employed as a group mother at Landmark, which is now Achieva, and prior to that she had worked at Ford, and the White Cottage Restaurant. She was the best mom anyone could imagine, and that was truly her favorite job. She loved to sing, and praise the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a member of Park Place Church of God, enjoying bible studies and being part of the Taking Off Pounds Sensibly group.
Survivors include her four children: Steven Whitney and his wife, Donna Marie, of Cambridge City; Kenneth D. Whitney and his wife, Ruth, of New Palestine; Victoria Cooney of Milton; Jeanine Whitney of Connersville; an adopted daughter: Betsy Moss of Connersville; two sisters: Leathia “Sis” Robertson of Huntington, West Virginia; Thelma Maynard of Kenova, West Virginia; five grandchildren: Angel Howell of Milton; Stephen Hurley of Shelbyville; Aaron Howell of Richmond; Tyler Whitney of New Palestine; Kerri Whitney of Cambridge City; a great-granddaughter: Alayna Whitney; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Charles Pennington, who died in 1988; an infant daughter: Margina May Whitney; three brothers: Charles Damron, Norman Damron, an infant brother Gallie Damron; and a sister: Lola Latino.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Wayne Sellers of Park Place Church of God officiating. Interment will follow in Valley Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the Park Place Church of God Scholarship Fund or to the Gideons.

William Scott Chambers
June 27, 1941 - March 18, 2010
William Scott “Bill” Chambers was born June 27, 1941 in Hamilton, Ohio to Ollie Clay and Cecelia Maxine Scott Chambers both of whom precede him in death. He left this world on March 18, 2010 after a brief illness.
Bill’s younger years were spent on the family farm in Union County, where he continued to live until his death. He was a 1959 graduate of Short High School in Liberty were he had many wonderful memories. He married Nancy Brown of Darke County, Ohio on February 20, 1965 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Liberty. They made their home in Union County for 45 years. Their love for one another brought forth two children, Mark Scott Chambers, whose wife is Lori, and Marsha Ann Chamness, whose husband is Clarence. They were blessed by their six grandchildren: Raychael Leanna Chambers, Mallory Marie Chambers, Lacey Lynn Chambers, Luke Paul Chambers, Kayla Ann Chamness and Kyle Scott Chamness, all of Liberty.
Bill was a truck driver most of his adult life and loved the open road. There were few places in the United States he had not been, but his favorite place was on the farm in Union County. He loved his home, his family, and his many dear close friends. Bills’ prized possession was his John Deere 730, which his father bought new in 1959. He enjoyed the many parades and tractor shows he participated in. Bill never knew a stranger and enjoyed going to the Co-Op Country Corner, the Liberty Restaurant, and Holly’s Restaurant.
Bill leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory, including his wife; children; grandchildren; brother: Michael Lee Chambers, sister: Martha Ann Frautschi and her husband David, all of New Richmond, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, with Pastor Scott Bell of Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Friends Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service where memorial contributions may be made to the 4-H Tractor Club.

Vicky S. Buttery
June 13, 1948 - March 8, 2010
Vicky S. Buttery, 61, of Liberty, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at her residence.
Born June 13, 1948 to Wayne Stearns and Rosalynn Wood Beamer in Rushville, she attended Rushville area schools. For more than twenty years, Vicky worked at the Kmart in Oxford, Ohio, and was the Assistant Manager when the store was closed. Throughout her life she was always a hard worker, but what brought her the most joy was being a grandma. She liked to play bingo occasionally, and had loved vacationing in Las Vegas.
Survivors include her three children: Misty Woosley and her husband, Glenn, of West College Corner; Troy Stearns and his wife, Brandy, of Oxford, Ohio; Richard Stearns of Blue Ash, Ohio; two sisters: Diane Mullins of Greensburg; Janie Stanley of Rushville; seven grandchildren: Michelle Woosley, Michael Woosley, Catie Rose Stearns, Katelynn Stearns, Gavin Stearns, Logan Stearns, and Taylor Broshear; several nieces and nephews.
Vicky was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Sandy Hamer and Sherry Stearns.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at College Corner Cemetery on Monday, March 15, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Estel Stewart of River of Life Worship Center officiating. Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Liberty Church of Christ in Vicky’s memory.

Roberta Jean Gilbert
February 5, 1942 - March 6, 2010
Roberta Jean Green Gilbert, 68, of Connersville, died Saturday morning, March 6, 2010, at Reid Hospital, Richmond.
Roberta was a Connersville native, born February 5, 1942 to Lewis L., Sr. and Royanna Whitaker Green. She attended Connersville High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. On December 9, 1961, she was married in Connersville to Virgil D. Gilbert who died May 8, 2001. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and an honorary lifetime member of the Fayette County Women’s Democrat Club. Roberta had been employed at Ford Electronics, area restaurants and had worked at the former Myers Funeral Home in the 1950s. She most enjoyed her time babysitting area children, including James Toney and Martha Toney. Roberta liked to read, play bingo and had a passion for Elvis and his music. She also was an avid Colts fan and Connersville Spartan fan. Her generous nature was best portrayed by her request to be an organ donor.
Roberta is survived by a son: Brian L. Gilbert of Connersville; three sisters and their spouses: Georgianna Snoddy and, Gary, Nancy McClain, all of Connersville, Rita Loyd and Jack of Leander, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband, step-father: Orville Spivey, brother: Lewis L. Green, Jr., a sister: Janet Bailey and a nephew: Duane “RD” Green, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Dave Galbraith of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Everton Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Thursday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to Fayette County 4-H.

Jerry Lee Fairchild
April 6, 1948 - March 6, 2010
Jerry Fairchild, 61, of Liberty, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Knolls of Oxford.
He was born April 6, 1948 to Charles J. and Florence Hetisimer Fairchild in Hamilton, Ohio. Following his graduation in 1966 from Short High School, Jerry was inducted into the Unites States Army. He served in Vietnam until he was wounded in action. After returning home, he worked on the family hog farm until his health prevented him from working. As a farmer, Jerry didn’t have much free time, but he did enjoy his pet dogs.
Survivors include his mother: Florence Fairchild; brothers: James Fairchild, both of Liberty, John Fairchild and his wife Molly; and a nephew: James F. Fairchild, all of Connersville.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at College Corner Cemetery. Friends may visit at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, College Corner from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service where memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Pete McClure
Marion McClure, 57, of College Corner, OH, died Friday, February 25, 2005 at Mcullough-Hyde Hospital in Oxford, OH. He was born April 15, 1947 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. He was a veteran. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, February 28, 2005, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home at 4 County Line Street, College Corner, OH. Services will be held Monday, February 28, 2005, at 1:00 PM at Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home at 4 County Line Street, College Corner, OH. Pastor Jay Barden will be officiating. Burial will be at College Corner Cemetery on Monday, February 28, at 1:45 pm. Memorials can be sent to American Heart Assn. Juvenile Diabetes. Wallace F. Brown
Wallace F. Brown, 90, of 1512 West 6th Street, Connersville, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at Fayette Memorial Hospital, Connersville.
He was a Fayette County native, born November 20, 1914 to Charley and Elizabeth B. Fowler Brown. He was a life-long resident of Connersville and graduated from Connersville High School in 1932. On September 9, 1935, he was married in Covington, KY to the former Ruth Payton who died March 9, 2000. They had maintained a winter home in Bradenton, Florida for 20 years and enjoyed collecting shells. They were members of shell clubs in Indianapolis, Tampa, FL and Sarasota, FL and were awarded the DuPont International Shell Collecting Award.
Mr. Wallace had been employed at McQuay-Norris for 16 years as a machinist and retired as a foreman from Roots Blower in 1980 after 23 years of service. He was a member of Central Christian Church, Warren Lodge #15, F. & A.M. as a master mason and was a member of the Connersville Lodge #379 Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. In his leisure time, he also enjoyed woodworking, model building, and sailing. He had built two sailboats and was featured in the Outdoor Indiana magazine.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-laws: Linda R. and Jack Goetz of Knoxville, TN, Alice E. and Joe Kawan of Rancho Mirage, CA; two sons and daughter-in-laws: Charles W. and Troy Brown of Connersville, Edward L. and Diane E. Brown of Indianapolis; a brother and sister-in-law: G. Bruce and Wanda Brown of Connersville; a half-sister: Pauline Church of New Castle; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, and one sister, Eleanor Devening, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home. Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Dr. Dick Haynes of the Central Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday where memorial contributions may be made to Historic Elmhurst.

Alicia, Mathew, & Angelia Smith
Alicia Renae Smith, 27, Mathew Scott Smith, 5, and Angelia Reanne Smith, 4, all of Loogootee, died Sunday, February 20, 2005 at their residence. The Martin County coroner is continuing the investigation.
Alicia was born May 6, 1977 in Connersville to George W. and Mary Ann Baldwin Underwood. She attended Connersville area schools and was a devoted Mother to her children. She was an avid reader and enjoyed poetry and writing.
Mathew was born April 8, 1999 in Dubois County and Angelia was born November 2, 2000 in New Castle to Arthur Lee and Alicia Renae Smith. The children were inseparable and enjoyed playing together. Mathew loved attending kindergarten and was interested in dinosaurs and Sponge Bob. Angelia enjoyed anything to do with princesses and liked to be called “Princess Angelia”.
Alicia is survived by her parents of Connersville; a brother and his wife: Christopher L. and Lydia Underwood of Muncie; two sisters: Michelle A. Mitchell and her husband Steve, and Hannah R. Underwood all of Connersville; her maternal grandparents: Dewey “Foster” and Virginia “June” Baldwin of Alpine; her paternal grandmother: Bettine Underwood of Tuscon, AZ; two step-sons: Lee and Justin Smith of Rushville; three nephews: Blake Mitchell, Gregory and Joshua Underwood; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The children are also survived by their paternal grandparents, Patricia and Michael Todd of New Castle and William and Thelma Smith of Loogootee.
Alicia’s paternal grandfather, George C. Underwood, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Interment will follow in Laurel North Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday where memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.

Bernyce M. Cash Hill
Bernyce Cash Hill, 88, life-long Connersville resident and formerly of 2377 State Road 1, Connersville, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 20, 2005 surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter in Richmond.
She was born in New Castle on April 9, 1916 to Lee and Mary Fern Selke and attended Connersville area schools. She had been employed by Rex Manufacturing, Stant Manufacturing and Connersville Casket Company. In August of 1983, she retired from Franklin Casket Company, Brookville. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed quilting. She had been a member of the Faith-Trinity United Methodist Church, Richmond and was a former member of the East Side United Methodist Church, Connersville. She was a 50 year member of the Connersville Chapter #346, Order of the Eastern Star where she had held several offices including Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Past Matrons Club and the Anti-Can`t Class. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband; Howard E. "Shorty" Hill whom she married July 11, 1952 in Rushville; a daughter: Claudette Cash Wissler of Richmond; two grandchildren and their spouses: Gary and Roberta Wissler of Cambridge City, Ginny and Scott Roehler of Centerville; 4 great-grandchildren: Sandy Wissler Isaacs, Sarah Wissler Wall, Kyle Roehler, Tyler Roehler; two great-great-grandsons: Dylan and Dakota "Cody" Isaacs; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband: Carter B. Cash, who died Januray 1, 1951; four brothers: LeRoy, Narvel "Bud", Carl "Barney", and Albert Selke; and one sister: Leota Selke.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 pm at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Rev. Judi Marshall of the Faith-Trinity United Methodist Church, Richmond officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday where memorial services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday by the Connersville Chapter #346, Order of the Eastern Star. Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to the Faith- Trinity United Methodist Church.
