James Parrent Sr.

Newburgh resident James E. Parrent Sr. died Saturday, Feb. 3,a t his home of cancer. He was 75.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Barbara (Ellis); a daughter, Julie Engler of Newburgh; a son, James E. Jr. of St. Philip; a sister, Betty Simms of Evansville; a grandson, Andrei W. Parrent; and a niece and nephew.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 5, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel. Burial was in Park Lawn Cemetery, with military rites.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charles Hirsch

Evansville resident Charles H. Hirsch Sr. died Saturday, Feb. 3, from complications of a stroke. He was 78.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Dorothy "Dot" (Welte); two daughters, Susan Hagan of Evansville and Marsha Schilling of Belvidere, Ill.; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Jr. of Evansville and Curt of Peach Tree City, Ga.; three sisters, Virginia Herr and Glenna Polz, both of Evansville and Marilyn Welte of Chandler; four brothers, Joe and Bill, both of Newburgh, Bob of McCutchanville and Gene of Cynthiana; nine grandchildren, Keith, Greg and Rod Hirsch, Jennifer Clausheide, Michael and Amy Schilling and Beau, Brook and Grace Winiger; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continued at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Virginia Brown

Former Evansville resident Virginia S. "Susie" (Crider) Brown died Saturday, Feb. 9 in Safety Harbor, Fla. She was 66.

She is survived by two daughters, Paulette Brown Sudduth of Safety Harbor and Scarlet L. George of Clearwater, Fla.; three sons, Richard L. of Dunedin, Fla., Steven R. of Englewood, Fla., and Donn of Lafayette; her mother, Pauline G. Crider of Evansville; two brothers, Bruce Crider of Evansville and Bill Crider of Newburgh; two sisters, Georgia Mitchell of Mount Gay, W. Va. and Ruth Boyd of Evansville; and seven grandchildren.

Private funeral services were held Friday, March 1 at Simpson Funeral Home Newburgh Chapel.

Mildred Lutz

Boonville native Mildred Alice Lutz died Saturday, Aug. 10 at Silver City Care Center in Silver City, N.M. She was 94.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert A. Lutz in 1978, her parents, three brothers and a niece, Hila Jean Cooper.

She is survived by nieces and nephews Larry Songer of Albuquerque, N.M.; Terry Songer, Ronnie Songer, Valerie Ferrell and Dana Kay Singer, all of Mo.; Annelea Williams of Chandler and Darlena James of Lakewood, Colo.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 17 at Maple Grove Cemetery. Rev. Robert D. Shofner officiated. Koehler Funeral Home, Boonville Chapel handled arrangements.

Karla Myres

Boonville resident Karla Raye (Gowen) Myres died Saturday, Nov. 2, in Sevierville, Tenn., from injuries sustained in a pedestrian traffic accident. She was 37.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn Myres of Seymour, Tenn.; her parents, Charles (Tom) and Barbara Gowen of Boonville; two sons, Ethan and Sam Myres, both at home; several former foster children; a sister, Kimberly Suszanne Pierce of Boonville; a brother, Kenny T. Gowen of Elberfeld; three nieces; three nephews and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 7, at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel. Burial was in James Parker Cemetery in Hatfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bread of Life Ministries.

Gary L. Koontz

Newburgh resident Gary Lee Koontz died March 3 at his residence. He was 61.

Gary was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran. He was a member of Local #136. He was retired from Industrial Contractors.

Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Jan Lampher.

Gary is survived by his wife of 36 years, Pam Koontz, of Newburgh; two sons, Michael Koontz, of Newburgh and Joseph, and his wife Lee Anne Koontz, of Evansville; grandchildren: Kellsie, Quinten, Zack and Nathan; a sister: Donna Hankins, of Thorntown; four brothers, Richard Koontz of Thorntown, David Koontz of Bloomington, John Koontz of Lebanon, Steve Koontz of Lebanon; and 14 nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Thursday March 6, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Reverend Ernest Stair. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, in Newburgh American Legion Kapperman Post #44 conducted military rites at the cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Vista Care Hospice.

G. Marie Allen

Boonville resident G. Marie Allen died Friday, April 18 at Woodmont Health Campus in Boonville with her family at her side. She was 95.

Marie was a member of the Main Street General Baptist Church in Boonville for 63 years, joining in 1940. She taught the Fanny Crosby Sunday School Class, was a member of the church choir for over 50 years and the Ladies Chorus of the Church and was a member of the Harmeyer Missionary Circle. Marie was also a member of Sinawik, Young at Heart and the Busy Bee Home Ec Club.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Allen in 1988; a son, Lidwell Allen in 2002; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Allen in 1990.

Marie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Dick Anderson and son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Dixie Allen, all of Boonville; six grandchildren, Steve Anderson and his wife, Susan; Debbie Emmons and her husband, Dan; Karissa Boyd and her husband Brian, all of Boonville; David Allen and his wife, Bonnie of Georgetown; Katrinka Ashby and her husband, Jack of Folsomville; Kolleen Stuteville and her husband, Robin of Chandler; 16 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Orner Clay and Lois Belt of Indianapolis and nieces.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 21 at 2 p.m. at Koehler Funeral Home-Boonville Chapel with Rev. Dwight Bland and Rev. Kevin Morris officiating. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial contributions be made to the Main Street General Baptist Church in Boonville.

Larry P. Hart

Boonville resident Larry P. Hart died Tuesday, June 3 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was 48.

Larry was a 1972 graduate of Boonville High School and attended training for Underground Mines at Wabash Community College. Larry had formerly worked for Sigeco as a lineman and for 18 years worked for the City of Boonville as an electrician and lineman. He also worked for Allied Electric in Evansville a short time. Larry was a real estate agent for Emge Citizens Realty. During his illness, he attended Ivy Tech studying Integrated Robotics and attaining a grade point average of 4.0.

Larry was a certified Private Pilot, flying his own plane. He enjoyed sky diving, scuba diving, swimming and all water sports. He was an avid jogger and enjoyed participating in sports with his special son, Brandon. Larry was a member of Strangers Rest Masonic Lodge #240 F & AM.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dan W. Hart, in 1998.

Larry is survived by his fiancee, Angie Scales and their son, Brandon Scales, both of Boonville; a son, Jonathan Hart of Boonville; his mother, Ruby Hart of Boonville; a sister, Diane Clark of Troutdale, Ore.; a brother, Lorne Hart of Newburgh; one nephew, Kevin Clark; two nieces, Lacey Jane Hart and Kail E. Bline; and his baby girl cocker spaniel, Julie.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 7 at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel with Rev. John Swain and Rev. Kevin Morris officiating. Burial followed in Freedom Cemetery near Boonville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Deaconess Ohio Valley Hospice.

Barbara Killion

Boonville resident Barbara J. Killion died Thursday, June 5 at Baker's Rest Haven in Boonville. She was 77.

Barbara was born Dec. 3, 1924 to George Moody Vincent Spear and Bessie Marie Clem Spear in Vigo County. She was a member of Maryland Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Cecil E. "Bud" Killion.

She is survived by one son and his wife, Mark Everett and Anita Killion of Hillsdale; one daughter and her husband, Cathy and Jack L. Sheridan of Midway; two sisters, Virginia Black of Anaheim, Calif., and Alice Taylor of Fort Myers, Fla.; four grandchildren, Mark Killion, Jr., Chad Killion, Andy Hoffman and Amy Hobbs; four great-grandchildren, Bryce Killion, Caty Hobbs, Cory Hobbs and Jordan Hoffman; and three step-grandchildren, Jack L. Sheridan, Jr., Terressa Degenhardt and Beth Kupferer.

Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute.

Dee Burkhart

Chandler resident Dee "Sonny" Burkhart died Sunday, Feb. 24 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. He was 75.

He attended the Methodist Church in Hatfield. He retired from Alcoa after 24 years of service. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Union Local #104. He was an avid fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Lee Jamison Burkhart in 1969 and a brother, Jeremy in 1971.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Evelyn Burkhart of Chandler; five daughters, Teresa Paul and Vicky Gammon, both of Chandler, Linda Neville and Lana Labhart both of Newburgh, and Sandy Morrison of Marengo, Iowa; four sons, Steve Burkhart of Albion, Texas, George Smith of Evansville, Bryan Smith of Chandler and Rick Smith of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Don Burkhart of Evansville; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Koehler Funeral Home-Perigo Chapel with burial in James Parker Cemetery in Hatfield with military Rites by the Warrick County Veterans Memorial Services.

Rev. Randy L. Anderson officiated.

George Gross

George W. Gross, 76, died November 8 at Heartland of Centerburg Care Center, after a long illness.

A retired attorney, George earned his B.S. degree from the Ohio State University, L.L. B. at Franklin University, at Franklin University and was awarded a Juris Doctor degree by

Capital University. He was a trial lawyer, practicing in municipal, county and state courts in Ohio. In 1960 he was admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of the United states. George was a member of the Board of Governors of the Columbus Bar Association, lectured for the Ohio Trial Lawyers Association, and taught in the paralegal program of Capital University. George was a decorated combat veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations in Belgium and Germany. George had great enthusiasm for living. He learned to sail at Culber military Academy as a youth and as an adult sailed Buckeye Lake, Lake Erie, the Bahamas and in the Virgin Islands. He was commissioned as a Commander in the Ohio Naval Militia was licensed by the Coast Guard as a commercial marine captain. He enjoyed physical exercise regularly at the Central YMCA's Business Men's Club and was a team player with the Golden Buckeye Tennis Club. He belonged to many organizations, including Lawyer's Club, Buckeye Lake Yacht Club, Buckeye Sports Car Club of America and enjoyed the Columbus Symphony the Columbus Museum of Art and the Columbus Jazz Orchestra. George was a major blood donor for the American Red Cross and read every week for the Central Ohio Radio Reading Service for the blind. His greatest community commitment was to the unique Charity Newsies, selling papers on his corner every December and also making visits to the homes of children who received Newsie assistance. George was a Master Mason of Columbus Lodge #30 F&AM; Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus and the Aladdin Temple Shrine. He was a riding member of the Aladdin Temple Morgan Horse Patrol unit and participated in regional and International parades and drill team competitions . As an active member of Broad Street Presbyterian Church, George served as trustee, deacon, usher and volunteer staff during his 52 years there. George touched many lives; he was a loyal friend, unfailingly cheerful. Even a life so full seems too short. He will be missed by his many friends here and in Key West, Fla. where he has resided since his retirement. Whatever else he enjoyed, George dedicated himself most of all to being husband, father and grandfather to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rae; his living family of son, Kelly, daughter-in-law, Robin and grandaugther Alexandra Gross; step-grandson, Michael Murphy; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Glenn Roberts; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Dawn and grandson, Gregory Gross and devoted mother-in-law, Jean Behagg.

The Boonville VFW Post #3418 conducted military graveside rites with Mr. Jeff Jackson playing taps on the bugle.

A memorial graveside service was held Saturday, June 8 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville.

Rev. William Gordon officiated.

Bradley Funeral Home handled arrangements.
