Services for Drew Stern were held Oct. 22 at Trinity Anglican Church in Mesa, Ariz.

Drew Edwin Stern, 43, died Oct. 16, 2003 at his home in Mesa, Ariz.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, 2402 N. Usery Pass Rd., Mesa, AZ 95207.

Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Mesa, was in charge of arrangements.

Doris J. Gesaman

Doris J. Gesaman, 81, Pierceton, died at 5:02 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 30, 2003) at The Oaks, Columbia City.

Calling was 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, 7458E-100N, Syracuse. Graveside funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with Harlan Steffen presiding.

Preferred memorials are to the Center of Hope, in care of the funeral home.

Eugene E. Crawford

Eugene E. Crawford, 87, 3720N Norwood Rd., died at 6:26 a.m. Friday (Oct. 31, 2003) at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Calling was from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where funeral services were held at noon on Monday. Rev. Elzie Spencer will officiate. Burial was at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington.

Preferred memorials are to the Norwood Nursing Center, 3720N Norwood Rd., in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington, IN 46750.

Marjorie Jeffrey Clancy

Marjorie Jeffrey Clancy, 74, died at 7:16 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 2, 2003) at her daughter’s home, 1629 Ash St., where she was living.

Calling is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Pastor Richard Lofgren will officiate.

Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Parkview Huntington Hospice, in care of Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, 338 E. Washington St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Shawn D. Boone

Shawn D. Boone, 33, Roann, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 30, 2003) at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne, of injuries suffered in an explosion Wednesday night at Hayes Lemmerz International Inc., Huntington.

Calling was one hour prior to a 2 p.m. memorial service Sunday at the DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel, 1401 Ind.-14W, North Manchester. Pastor Timothy Prater will officiate at the service. Burial will be at a later date.

Preferred memorials are gifts to the Dave Ripplinger Family Fund, 35 W. Tanner St., North Manchester, IN 46962.

Thurman Poe

Thurman E. Poe, 86, 814 S. Jefferson St., died at 8:19 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 2, 2003) at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Mr. Poe, a lifetime resident of Huntington, retired as chief clerk to the trainmaster of Erie-Lackawanna/Conrail in 1977 after 37 years of service. He served in the Army during World War II, including two years overseas as chief clerk of the Headquarters Company, European Civil Affairs Division. He was a lifetime member of Central Christian Church, where he served as trustee and a 50-year member of the choir.

He was a 50-year member of Amity Lodge 483 F&AM and Order of the Eastern Star Floral Chapter 75, both of Huntington; and the Scottish Rite Valley and Mizpah Shrine, both of Fort Wayne. He was also a member of the Huntington Exchange Club, the MacDowell Music Club, and was a life member of the Huntington County Humane Society where he served 11 years as treasurer. He was honored for his years of service to the shelter with the street leading to the shelter being named in his honor — Thurman Poe Way. He was a member of the Huntington Erie Band for 60 years and the Retired Railroaders Erie-Lackawanna Veterans Association where he served as treasurer.

He was born Jan. 3, 1917 in Huntington, to Perry and Ada Logan Poe. He was a 1935 graduate of Huntington High School and a 1940 graduate of International Business College, where he earned a degree in business. He married Rose Poleti in Manchester, England, on Oct. 18, 1945. His wife survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ivan (Pamela) Rash and Mrs. Sanford (Linda) Thompson, both of Fort Wayne, and four grandchildren.

A sister, Doris Smith, preceded him in death.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, with Order of the Eastern Star Twilight services at 8 p.m. followed by Masonic services. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary with Dr. Sam Young officiating.

Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington County Humane Shelter or the Central Christian Church Building Fund, in care of the Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington, IN 46750.

Nancy I. Reed

Nancy I. Reed, 79, a former resident of Marion, died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 4, 2003) at her home in Valdosta, Ga.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County, with Rev. Richard Shireman officiating.

Preferred memorials are to Hospice of South Georgia, 2005 Woodrow, P.O. Box 1727, Valdosta, GA 31603-1727.

John M. First

John M. First, 71, Allegany, N.Y., died Monday (Nov. 3, 2003) at his home.

Services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. N.Y., followed by full military honors.

Burial will be at Allegany Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the Allegany American Legion or the Allegany Fire Department.

Charles Carter Jr.

Charles “Chuck” Carter Jr., 68, Indianapolis, died Wednesday (Nov. 5, 2003) at his home.

There will be no calling hours or services.

Hendryx Mortuary, Cumberland Chapel, Indianapolis, is in charge of arrangements.

Helen R. Petre

Helen Rose Petre, 83, Huntington, died at 1:13 a.m. Friday (Nov. 7, 2003) at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, with recitation of the rosary at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 a.m. Monday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., with Father Ron Rieder officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Church for Masses or to the SS. Peter and Paul food pantry in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington IN 46750.

Effie M. Johnson

Effie M. Johnson, 87, Huntington, died at 11:55 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 6, 2003) at the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana in Fort Wayne.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with one hour of visitation prior to service at Faith Lutheran Church, 3416E-900N, Roanoke, with Rev. Daniel Coffey officiating.

Burial will be at Star of Hope Cemetery, Huntington.

Preferred memorials are to the Diabetes. Association or to Faith Lutheran Church memorial Fund, both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Byron McCammon Jr.

Byron McCammon Jr., 81, Salvisa, Ky., died Friday (Nov. 7, 2003) at the Haggin Memorial Hospital, Harrodsburg, Ky.

Calling will also be held from 9 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 285 Hill-N-Dale Dr., Danville, Ky. David Whitten will officiate.

Preferred memorials are to Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 66, Harrodsburg, KY 40330; or to Our Savior Lutheran Church Building Fund, in care of Ransdell Funeral Chapel, 345 E. Lexington St., Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

Charles R. Hutchinson

Charles R. “Rick” Hutchinson, 40, Roanoke, died at 12:36 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 9, 2003) at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Calling is from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with calling one hour prior to services, at the Cornerstone Alliance Church, 5833E-900N, Roanoke. Pastor Darrell Weigelt will officiate.

Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.

Preferred memorials are to the Levi and Noah Hutchinson Education Trust Fund, in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.
