Martha Marie Ault
March 24, 1906 - December 4, 2002
Martha Marie Ault died of natural causes in the Walnut Creek Nursing Home, 309 Kingston Drive, Plymouth, at 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2002. She had lived in Plymouth for the past eight years at 1816 Hope Blvd. , coming from Knox where she resided for 30 years, formerly living in Chicago . Martha was 96 years old.
Born the daughter of Albert and Amanda H. Berg Kendall on March 24, 1906 , in Ladysmith , Wis. , Martha attended schools in Wis. and Ind. , and graduated from Culver High School with the class of 1923. She attended Valparaiso University for a year.
Martha worked as a secretary in the Culver military Academy prior to her marriage on September 24, 1928 , in Chicago , to Harry Hugh Ault. Married, 55 years, Harry died on December 28, 1983.
She also worked with handicapped children while living in Chicago and following retirement age she was a sales clerk in a Chicago Sears store.
As a homemaker and mother, Martha sewed, making clothing for her family and Mission fields. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. An avid reader, she spent time reading the Bible and learning about different subjects. With her daughter she attended the First Baptist Church of Plymouth as well as the Plymouth Brethren churches in Chicago and Knox.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Elaine Marie Henderson, Plymouth, and a son, Roger Dale (Jane) Ault, Oaklawn , Ill.
Granddaughters Amanda J. Ault, Oaklawn , Ill. , Carol E. (Brian) Slager, Merrionette Park , Ill. , and grandson, Stephen Howard Henderson, Plymouth , survive as well. Three great-grandchildren: Matthew and Scott Slager and Ashley Henderson also survive.
Martha was preceded in death by her spouse and Carl Ault, an infant son. Two brothers, Herman and Albert Ault and a son-in-law, Howard Henderson have also died.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 5, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Lonnie Nicholl pastor of the First Baptist Church, will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2002.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Knox, Indiana

Candice R. Geasey Baca
September 17, 1958 - November 11, 2002
Candice R. “Candy” Geasey Baca, 44, died at home, 14370 Union Rd., Culver, Ind., after a year-long battle with cancer at 2:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 11, 2002.
Candy was born in Mishawaka, the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth M. Green Geasey, on Sept. 17, 1958. She was a 1977 graduate of Plymouth High School.
On Dec. 11, 1996, in Plymouth, Candy and Salvador “Chava” Baca were married.
She worked at A.O. Safety (formerly American Optical) on Jefferson St., Plymouth, for approximately twelve years.
Always smiling, Candy loved her family dearly and was a big supporter of many charities. She adored animals, country music and crocheting things for her family and friends.
Candy is survived by her husband and by two sisters; Deb Geasey and Pam Hunsaker, both of Plymouth.
Two nephews, Jade and Kalin Hunsaker and two great-nephews, Raynen and Daemon, all of Plymouth, survive as well.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Friends may call and visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, in the funeral home. The Rev. Charles Krieg, pastor of Salem United Methodist Church, Bremen, Indiana will officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorials in Candy’s memory may be made to the Pet Refuge, South Bend, Indiana or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Geneva A. Bacon
September 11, 1913 - March 1, 2002
Geneva A. “Gen” Bacon, 88, died unexpectedly at 10:44 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2002, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
A Plymouth resident since 1983, coming from Battle Creek, Mich., Gen, known as a sweet, kind-hearted person, will be missed by her many friends. She loved her church, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and served them well.
Born in Mulkeytown, Ill., on Sept. 11, 1913, Gen was the daughter of Louie E. and Flora Agnes Overturf Lewis. She graduated from Sesser High School and earned a teacher’s certificate from University of Southern Illinois.
On December 29, 1934, in Christopher, Ill., Gen and Kenneth D. Bacon were married. Kenneth, her beloved husband of almost 65 years, died on December 17, 1999.
Gen worked with her husband for many years in motel management both in Mt. Vernon, Ill., and then in Battle Creek, Michigan’s Holiday Inn.
A collector of Desert Rose dishes, she loved to cook and entertain her family and friends. She enjoyed duplicate bridge and played with the Plymouth Club for many years and with the Delts-Bridgarama fund-raisers.
Gen, a dedicated Christian, was a Prayer Partner, a member of the Christian Women’s Club and the Seniors Group all with the Plymouth Wesleyan Church. In the Christopher Illinois Eastern Star Chapter, she served as Past Matron.
Gen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David L. and Charlayne M. Bacon and by her grandson David M. and Kathy A. Bacon and their son, David Michael. A granddaughter, Kimberly D. and Phillip A. Scott and their children: Myles D., Mitchell P. and Meghan M. Scott, all of Plymouth.
Two brothers, Louis Lewis Jr. and Max Lewis also survive together with two special nieces: Karol Harris and Don Repovich of Bellville, Ill, Gloria and Francisco Lara, Baton Rouge, La. and nephew; Jeff and Dianne Troutt and their daughter, great niece; Janelle of Christopher, Ill, along with numerous other nieces and nephews.
Gen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters: Betty McNeill and Bertha Troutt and two brothers; Evan and Gene Lewis.
Visitation with the family will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2002, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, and for one hour prior to the services in the church on Tuesday.
The Reverends Les Kephart and Robert Vardaman, pastors of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, 11203 S. Michigan St., Plymouth, will officiate at funeral services for Gen on Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the church.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Bonnie E. Baker
January 18, 1931 - February 26, 2002
Bonnie E. Baker, 71, a Plymouth area resident most of her life, living in Argos since 1977, died of natural causes in her residence, 116 Broadway, on Feb. 26, 2002.
Bonnie was born in Plymouth, the daughter of Clifford L. and Perma M. Barts Geyer, on Jan. 18, 1931. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1949 and earned a business degree from Ivy Tech. She later furthered her skills with computer courses.
She worked in the clerical department of the State License Bureau and was also a former employee of the Marshall County Clerk, Treasurer’s and Auditor’s offices. From 1977 to 1996, Bonnie was employed by Aker Plastics in the accounts receivable and payroll department.
Interested in many things, Bonnie enjoyed sewing clothing and making comforters for each family member. She collected family heirlooms and was a crossword puzzle fan. She loved being at home; cooking and yard care were fun things for her to do. She was a good mom, who loved her grandchildren and enjoyed playing host to family holiday gatherings.
She was raised in the Plymouth Wesleyan Church and was a life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Plymouth, # 1162.
Bonnie is survived by two daughters and their families. They are Deena K. Newcomer, Nappanee, and her children: Brett, Shannon and Samantha Burroughs and Tyler Newcomer. Her second daughter, Lisa A. and William Norris, of Plymouth, are the parents of three children: Deane and Malisa Norris and Bill III, father of Bonnie’s great-grandson, Koleman Norris.
A sister-in-law, Honey Geyer, Elkhart, two nieces and three nephews and Lela Perschbacher, a great-aunt, Plymouth, also survive.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse and a brother, David L. Geyer.
Friends may visit with her family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2002, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services in the funeral home will follow visitation on Friday, March 1, 2002, at 7 p.m. Pastor Tony Schneiders, pastor of the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, will officiate.
Graveside services will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2002, in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos. Pastor Schneiders will preside.

Deane W. Baker
October 16, 1928 - May 6, 2002
Deane W. Baker, 73, 15188 Union St., Burr Oak, died at 12:20 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2002 , at Walnut Creek Care Center , Plymouth . Deane was a lifetime Marshall County resident.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1928 , in Plymouth , the son of Ray O. and Jessie M. Turner Baker. A 1946 graduate of LaPaz High School , he had also attended classes at Valparaiso University .
Deane served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, during the Korean Conflict, and was a lifetime member of the Plymouth V.F.W. Post 1162.
A police officer for many years, Deane served in the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff’s Harvey Phillips and Jerry Greenlee. He had also worked for the Plymouth Police Department. After his police career, he continued to work for the City of Plymouth in various Utility departments. He later retired from the Culver military Academy as a grounds keeper.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Deane also loved to grow things in his garden, sharing his produce with family and friends.
Deane is survived by two daughters and their families. They are Deena K. Newcomer, Nappanee, and her children: Brett, Shannon and Samantha Burroughs and Tyler Newcomer. His second daughter, Lisa A. and William Norris, of Plymouth , are the parents of three children: Deane and Malisa Norris and Bill III, father of Deane’s great-grandson, Koleman Norris.
He is also survived by his special companion, Babe Anderson of Burr Oak, and her children Lynette, Susan and Jon, and a sister, Alyce and her husband Fawn Fritz of South Bend.
Deane was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Glen and Stanley Baker and two sisters, Erma Suter and Wilma Beyler.
There will be no visitation, Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 11th, at Fairmont Cemetery
, Plymouth , with the Rev. Tony Schneiders, pastor of Walnut Church of the Brethren, officiating.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Heritage Trust Fund, for the preservation of Wildlife, or to the American Cancer Society.
Bertha R. Balmer
September 15, 1913 - April 7, 2002
Bertha R. Balmer, 88, a lifetime resident, died of natural causes at her home, 324 E. Franklin Ave., Plymouth, at 11:04 a.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2002.
Born in German Twp. of Marshall County on Sept. 15, 1913, Bertha was the daughter of Peter Balmer Jr., and Marie Renas Balmer. She attended Marshall County schools.
Bertha had worked in various offices in Plymouth, South Bend and Chicago. She was a stenographer for many years at the South Bend Current Controller Company.
For many years, Bertha has remained close to home. She was a member of the Marshall County Humane Society.
Bertha is survived by a sister-in-law, Eloise Balmer, Bourbon, two nephews; Larry W. and Marsha Balmer, Plymouth, and Walter “Dick” R. and Jill Balmer, Bremen. Also surviving are two nieces Yvonne E. Balmer and spouse, Jim Shirley, Bloomington, Ind. and Darla Kaye and Patrick Finnegan of Bemidji, Minn. along with several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Walter, Richard and LaVon Balmer and a sister Ruth Balmer.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 10, 2002, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Chapel at New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Funeral services will follow visitation at 1 p.m. in New Oakhill Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Charles Krieg of the Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in the Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
