Verda Clark

Verda G. (Moye) Clark, 76, of Gary, Ind., formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at her home.

She retired from Zayre's Department Store.

Surviving are a daughter, Gaynell R. Floyd; two sons, Glenn C. and Dale R.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Woodmar United Methodist Church in Hammond, Ind., with burial in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kuiper Funeral Home in Highland, Ind.

Charles Curtis

Charles S. Curtis, 76, of Greenwood, Ind., died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Regency Place in Greenwood.

He retired from Detroit Diesel Allisons Division of General Motors Corp.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; two daughters, Debby McCarty and Cheryl Hibler; a son, Terry C.; a sister, Annalois Robbins; and eight grandchildren.

Service are private, with burial in Ames Chapel Cemetery in French Lick, Ind. Arrangements are being handled by Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory in Greenwood.

Memorial contributions may be made to Regency Place of Greenwood.

Isaac Hooker Sr.

Isaac Hooker Sr., 57, of Evansville, died Feb. 15, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital at 2:50 p.m. He was a native of Jackson, Miss., and also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

He was currently employed by the Mental Health Center as a chef. He had also worked as a chef at the Petroleum Club, Red Lobster and in French Lick, Ind.

He was a member of the YMCA, where he enjoyed sports of all kinds. He loved basketball.

He is survived by his sons, Isaac Hooker Jr., Lawrence Hooker and David Hooker, all of Evansville; 1 daughter, Betty Jean Hooker of Evansville; 3 sisters, Suzie Lee Hooker and Corrine E. Hooker, both of Evansville, and Martha Anne Hooker of Vincennes, Ind.; 3 brothers, Thomas Hooker of Vincennes, David Lynn Hooker of Newburgh and Elijah Hooker of Illinois; grandchildren; an aunt, Irene Bostic of Memphis, Tenn.; nieces and nephews; cousins; and a close friend, Sylvester Duerson.

Services will be Thursday at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 663 S. Elliott St., at 11 a.m., Rev. W.R. Brown Jr. officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Lancaster

Lillian Lancaster, 69, of Evansville, died at 8:44 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at her home.

She was born, January 24, 1933. Lillian was the wife of a farmer for 35 years. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lancaster, in 2000.

Survivors are a daughter, Donna Hatfield Hogan of Evansville; sons, Randy W. Head, Marcus H. Head Jr. and Grant E. Head, all of Evansville; a brother, Charles Bellus Jr. of Hartford, Conn.; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; stepchildren; stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services Wednesday at 1 p.m. February 20, 2002, at Alexander East Chapel, graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. at Gray Cemetery in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Reverend Janice Ledford officiating, burial in Gray Cemetery in Hopkinsville.

Visitation is Wednesday, February 20, 2002, from 10 a.m. until service time at Alexander East Chapel.

Donations may be made to Deaconess Hospice Care.

Maurice Pride

Maurice O. Pride, 92, of Evansville, died at 9:33 a.m. February 17, 2002, at Brookside Village in Jasper, Ind.

He was born February 1, 1910. Maurice was the second in a family of 11 children. He graduated from Otwell High School in 1928. He obtained his teacher's license from Indiana State Teachers College and then transferred to Purdue to study engineering, spending a total of four and one-half years in college. He taught public school for six years, two years in a one-room school with all eight grades.

During the war, he worked at Chrysler Corporation, then went to Republic Aviation Corporation and then to American Propeller Company in Toledo, Ohio. Following this, he went to work at International Harvester and then to Whirlpool Inc. Most of his work in industry was in process engineering.

Maurice taught two years at Lain's Technical Institute, a government job-training school. He went to Indiana Vocational Technical College as their first teacher in 1968, retiring in 1975. He wrote many articles to newspapers and was active in Republican politics as a precinct committeeman.

Maurice was a member of Terrace Parke General Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee, was a member of three missions groups and president of the Champion Sunday school class. He had been especially interested in missions, the growth of the General Baptist denomination and all of its various ministries. He was especially interested in its development programs at the headquarters in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and at Oakland City University in Oakland City, Ind. He was a lifetime member of the Alumni Association of Oakland City University and was granted an honorary doctorate of humanities degree by that institution in 1990.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jennie, on September 14, 1996.

Survivors are his present wife, Joyce Pride; daughters, Genevieve M. Perry of Evansville and Donna Johnson and her husband, Paul, of Indianapolis; a grandson, Brad Perry; granddaughter, Angela Ross; a great-granddaughter, Katherine Hooper and great-grandsons, Perry Hooper and Amos Perry; sisters, Louanna Yeager of Evansville and Pauline Foster of Columbus, Ohio; and a brother, Delmer Pride of Otwell, Ind.

Services Thursday at 10 a.m., February 21, 2002, at Alexander East Chapel, Reverend R. Kent Fahl officiating, entombment at Oak Hill Mausoleum.

Visitation is Wednesday, February 20, 2002, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel.

Donations may be made to Terrace Parke General Baptist Church.

Paul Recco

Paul Salvatore Recco, 49, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. He was born June 15, 1952.

Paul attended college in New York, and California, and was general manager of Metro Meter. He was of the Catholic faith.

Paul was preceded in death by two sisters, Maryann Michelson and Veronica Ann Recco.

Survivors are his wife of 3 months, Nancy E. (Patton) Harris-Recco of Evansville; his mother, Joan (Kotchie) Recco of Lansdale, Pa.; a son, Salvatore Paul Recco of Westport, Conn.; his daughter, Veronica Douglas and her husband, Scott, of Budd Lake, N.J.; stepchildren, Misti and Ryan Harris of Evansville, Alexa Signorino of Chicago and Amanda Signorino of Baltimore, Md.; a stepgrandson, Dylan Hicks; 4 brothers, Salvatore and Philip Recco of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., Anthony Recco of Hatfield, Pa., and Peter Recco of Lansdale, Pa.; 5 sisters, Regina Recco of Brooklyn, N.Y., Anne Recco of Huntington Station, N.Y., and Andrea Pehoda, Thomasina Canavan and Grace Zander, all of Lansdale, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Services Wednesday, 2 p.m., February 20, 2002, at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, Reverend Gordon DeTalente officiating, burial in Alexander Memorial Park.

Visitation Wednesday, February 20, 2002, from noon to service time at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for a memorial.

Gordon Turpen

Gordon Lee "Turp" Turpen, 87, of Evansville, died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Gordon was owner of a shoe store in Rosedale. He worked security at Evansville Shipyards for one year. He was also a member of the Evansville Police Department for 32 years and served on the motorcycle patrol and as a detective.

After retiring, he was a cashier at Ellis Park from 1974 to 1993. He also worked at Kuester's Hardware from 1974 until 1995.

Gordon was a member of FOP 73 and a member of Service Employees International Union. Memorial contributions may be made online at www.mem.com.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria Dean Turpen of Evansville; sons, Gordon Lee Turpen II of Evansville and Steve W. Roberts of Mount Vernon, Ind.; grandchildren, Janelle Roberts of Evansville, Katherine Turpen of Chandler, Ind., and Michael Turpen of Evansville; a great-grandchild, Alexis Walsh of Evansville; and stepgrandchildren, Ryan Ernst of Cannelton, Ind., and Katie Ernst of Mount Vernon.

Services Wednesday at 11 a.m., February 20, 2002, at Old North Methodist Church, 4201 Stringtown Road, Evansville, Indiana, Reverend Robert A. Nall officiating, entombment in Alexander Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation today, February 19, 2002, from 2 to 8 p.m., at Alexander North Chapel, and Wednesday, February 20, 2002, from 10 a.m. until service time, at Old North Methodist Church.

Donations may be made to FOP PAL Camp.

Howard Dillon

FRANCISCO - Howard A. Dillon, 91, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Good Samaritan Home in Oakland City.

He retired as an oilfield pumper.

Surviving is his wife, Golda.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with burial in Atkinson Chapel in Oatsville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
