Robert E. Larkin
March 6, 1935 - June 22, 1998
Robert E. Larkin, Reynolds, 63, died Monday, June 22, at 1:15 p.m. in Twin Lakes Village, Monticello. He had been ill for four years.
He has born in Indianapolis, March 6, 1935, to Dale and Eileen M. Roosa Orr Larkin. He was married June 27, 1970, to Colleene Adoree Nunes in Las Vegas.
He was a US. Army veteran.
He was a resident of Reynolds for 24 years, coming from California.
He was a supervisor in the carpenter shop at Purdue. He retired after 20 years of employment.
He was a member of the Reynolds Christian Church.
He was a member of Rail Cities Cruisers Car Club, a former member of the Reynolds Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Lafayette VFW and White County Civil Defense.
He is survived by four daughters, Sharon England and Michelle Larkin, both of Taylorville, Utah, Tamara Ledbetter, West Valley City, Utah and Virginia Jordan, Deerfield Beach, Florida; two sons, Douglas, West Valley City, Utah and Richard Charlson, Mount Dora, Florida; six brothers, Jeff and Gary, Minneapolis, Minn.; Kevin, Indianapolis, Mike, Spring Hill, Florida; Ron Orr, Buffalo and Clarence Orr, Monon; two sisters, Becky Woodcock, Buffalo and Catherine Larkin, Minneapolis, Minn.; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 26, at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev Richard McQuinn officiating.
Burial was in Buffalo Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Chester Helfrich Lutes
May 2, 1912 - March 30, 2000
Chester Helfrich Lutes, 87, died March 30, 2000 at Parkview Haven, Francesville, Ind. He was a life long resident of Monon. He spent 8 years of retirement with his wife, Nondis, in Tucson, Arizona.
He graduated with the Monon High School class of 1931, and was a life long member of the Monon Baptist Church.
He was born May 2, 1912, to Chester Arthur and Nellie Helfrich Lutes in Monon. He married Nondis Shaffer, June 8, 1931, at Francesville, Ind. They celebrated 61 years together before her death on April 4, 1992. He later married Betty Holiday Wright, Jan. 22, 1994, and she died May 6, 1999.
Chester and Nondis are survived by 7 children: Wanda Durham, Monon; LaVeme, Linden, Ind.; Fred (Jan), Mt. Prospect, IL.; Arthur (Eugenia), Holley, NY.; Lovilla Pardue, Shreveport, LA.; Darryl (Shirley), West Point, Ind.; Loren (Debbie), Fayetteville, PA.; 17 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 12 step great grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild. He is survived by a sister, Ardath Owens of Monon.
He was preceded in death by two infant siblings, sisters, Iona Miles and Lucille Clouse, brother, Raymond, 3 son-in-laws, Dwight McLain, Duane Durham, Marvin Pardue and great grandchild Rebecca Pardue.
In his early years, he worked at the local A&P Store and ran a "huckster wagon" selling groceries and wares. He drove a school bus several years, transported and supervised summer corn detasslers, worked with his sons mowing cemeteries. During World War II he worked at the Kingsbury Ammunition Plant and returned there during the
Korean War. He worked for the Town of Monon and served on the Park Board, as well as working at the Monon Post Office. When his father retired, Chet took over his position of Railroad Express Agent and Newspaper Distributor. Many Monon youth had their first job delivering papers for him. He also drove a Star Mail Route to Francesville and Medaryville, twice daily. His love of gardening and Nondis' love of flowers led to the development of a greenhouse plant business which they operated for 17 years.
He was well known by many as an honest, hard working, friendly, caring family man. His subtle sense of humor was enjoyed by all who knew him.
Services were Monday at the Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with Rev. Jim Ketchen and Rev. Steve Birch officiating. Burial was in the Bedford Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Monon First Response or Parkview Haven Retirement Home.
Herbert McGill Sr.
June 3, 1907 - October 16, 1990
Herbert H. McGill Sr., 83, Wolcott, died Tuesday, October 16, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. He had been ill for 2 1/2 months.
He was born June 3, 1907, to Jackson and Mary Ann Horton McGill, in Harrisburg, Ill. He was married June 10, 1933, to Verneice Bulington, who survives.
He lived in White County for more than 60 years and was a retired farmer. He also worked at Daniell's Construction Co. for 10 years.
He was a member of the Wolcott Methodist Church.
Surviving with his wife are four daughters, Dorothy Barker, Citrus Heights, Calif.; Mary Baker, Monon; Patricia Anker, Monticello; and Elizabeth Shanklin, Goodland; six sons, Herbert Jr. and Jim, both of Monon; Ebert, Panama City, Fla.; Harold, Monticello; David, Mesa, Arizona, and Dan, Sacramento; 33 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; one brother, Tom, Brookston; three sisters, Anna Belle Woods, Elizabeth Eigle and Gerty Kolenhammer, all of Evansville. Seven brothers, five grandsons and two great granddaughters are deceased.
The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon with Rev Ronald Spiker officiating.
Burial was in Bedford Cemetery
near Monon.
Edna Louise (Rinker) Meeker
March 1, 1919 - September 28, 2001
Edna Louise Meeker, 82 of John Knox Village, Lee's Summit, Missouri died Friday, September 28, 2001 at John Knox Village.
She was born March 1, 1919 in Monon, the daughter of Roy D. and Ruth VanVoorst Fisher.
She was a former resident of Wolcott and Francesville, moving to Rensselaer in 1975.
She graduated from Chalmers High School with the class of 1937. She was employed for 15 years at the Jasper County Hospital where she was Director of Medical Records at the time of her retirement.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer.
On March 24, 1944 she married Alfred William Rinker who passed away June 19, 1976. Her second marriage was in Rensselaer on April 30, 1983 to Eldo Meeker. He died on October 5, 1985.
Survivors include a son, Carl W. (Nancy) Rinker, Liberty, MO, two brothers, Melvin (Marge) Fisher, Fremont, MI, and Herbert R. (Lucille) Fisher, Brookston and one sister, Irene (Robert) Irons, Monon. She had 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
One son, 3 brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Visitation will be at Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer from l0 a.m. until the service.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 6, 2001 at 12:00 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer with pastor Greig Crowder and Larty Klingler officiating
Interment will be in Bedford Cemetery.
Infant Zara Rose Meyers
August 10, 2001
Infant Zara Rose Meyers, Lafayette, was stillborn Friday, August 10, at 6:25 p.m. in Home Hospital, Lafayette.
Surviving are her parents, Steve J. and Dani J. Taylor Meyers, Lafayette; maternal grandparent, Dixie Taylor, Lafayette; maternal great grandfather, Darnell Walker, Lebanon; paternal grandparents, Bob and Evelyn Meyers, Monon and a step-brother, Kevin Blair, at home.
Graveside services were today, August 15, at 10:30 a.m. in Bedford Cemetery, Monon with the Rev. Larry Piatt officiating.
Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon was in charge of arrangements.
Mary D. Montgomery
July 17, 1919 - March 26, 1999
Mary D. Airhart Montgomery, 79 of Lafayette died Friday. March 26, 1999 at her home. She had been in failing health for the past three years.
She was born July 17, 1919 in White County, the daughter of William C. and Kathryne Reiner Airhart and had lived in White, Carroll and Tippecanoe counties. She had retired from Purdue University in 1984 after 32 years as a dish room supervisor in the Purdue Memorial Union.
She attended the First Baptist Church in Lafayette.
Her marriage was to Cecil Montgomery in 1935 and they divorced in 1944.
She is survived by a son Harold Montgomery of Omaha, Nebraska and two daughters. Shirley Turner of Lafayette with whom she made her home for the past several years, and Sandra Dyer of Lafayette.
Two sisters, Florence Ferguson and Josephine Hanover both of Lafayette also survive. She had 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grand children and 1 great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents William C. Airhart and Kathryne Reiner Airhard, 3 brothers and 2 grandsons.
Funeral service was Tuesday at the Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Dr. Carl Malmgren officiating. Burial was in Battle Ground Cemetery.
Hugh Gray Ralstin
December 15, 1938 - May 20, 1999
Hugh Gray Ralstin, 60, of Battle Ground died Thursday, May 20, 1999 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He had moved to Battle Ground in 1967 from Syracuse, Kansas, where he grew up.
He was born December 15, 1938 in Walsh, Colorado the son of Freeman and Mary Husky Ralstin.
He married Jeanette Marie McKee on July 19, 1960 in Syracuse, Kansas. She died August 28, 1987.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 and in the Naval Reserve from 1958 to 1961.
He was a member of the Battle Ground Town Board from 1978 to 1987 where he served as President from 1980 to 1987. He was a member of the Lafayette Moose Lodge 1528 and Lafayette Order of Eagles.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Tina Marie) George of San Jose, California and Rita Marlene Ralstin of Lafayette.
One sister, Maxine Ralstin of Syracuse, Kansas and one brother Clifford Ralstin of Wichita, Kansas also survive along with 2 step grandchildren and I step great grandchild.
Graveside services with military rites were held on Monday at Battle Ground Cemetery
in Battle Ground with Rev Tammy Mills officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home was in charge of the service.
