John Benakovich Jr.

May 31, 1930 to October 21, 2000
John Benakovich Jr., 70, Monon, died Saturday, October 21, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

He was born May 31, 1930 to John and Mary Siskenintz Benakovich Sr., in Chicago. He was married July 23, 1955, to Mary Ann Corner, in Crown Point and she survives. He served four years in the U.S. Marines and was a Sergeant in the Indiana National Guard for 30 years. He worked at RCA in Monticello for 30 years and at the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette for 10 years. He was a member of the VFW Lodge and American Legion Lodge, Lafayette. He also was a former member of the Monticello Moose Lodge and Monon Eagles Lodge.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Ronald Lee Benakovich, Monon; a sister Helen Zorich, Chicago; brothers, Melvin and Dennis Benakovich, both of Chicago and five grandchildren.

Funeral service was Tuesday at Kellogg Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Miller officiating. Burial was in Chapel Cemetery, Monon, with full military rites.

Memorials may be given to the R.B. Baseball Foundation.

Howard J. Benker

Aug. 3, 1924 to Sept. 21, 1990
Howard J. Benker, 66, 8417 Timber Lane, Lafayette, died Friday morning, Sept. 21, in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center. He had been hospitalized since August 23, and suffered complications from heart surgery.

He was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Brookston and was a 1942 graduate of Brookston High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. In 1959 he began a career in real estate and opened his own company, Benker Realty in 1962. He developed Ben-La-Del Estates on Indiana 25 North in 1965. He was a member of First Assembly of God and Monticello American Legion Post 81, and was a past member of the Gideon's and Lafayette Board of Realtors. He was married Oct. 24, 1944 to Gladys F. Slayton in Brookston. She survives.

Also surviving, are three children, Diana K. Trapp, Indianapolis; Becky Grimsley, Lafayette and John K. Benker, San Antonio, Texas; and a sister, Wilma E. Benker, Dallas, Texas. Surviving are 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. A brother, Clayton preceded in death.

The service was Monday at 11 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Jessie Buell officiating. Interment was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Karen Lynn Bert

Dec. 1,1945 to Jan. 7, 1995
Karen Lynn Bert, 49, Sherman Oaks, California, died Saturday afternoon, Jan. 7, at Home Hospital, Lafayette.

She was born in Lafayette on Dec. 1,1945 to James M. and Stella R. Scifert Tarter, both of Chalmers. She was a 1963 graduate of Bethel Park High School, Bethel Park, PA, and Moore College of Art at Philadelphia. She was employed by the Clairmont Camera Rental Co., Studio City, CA, and was a real estate agent for Gibson and Associates, Studio City, CA. She was a member of the Bethel Park Presbyterian Church.

Surviving with her parents are one daughter, Lisa Bert of Sherman Oaks; one son, Christian P. of Bethel Park, PA; one daughter-in- law, Christine Bert of Bethel Park, PA; one grandson, Zachary James Bert of Bethel Park, PA; and one sister, Laurie Mrozowski of Pittsburgh, PA.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Hamel Funeral Home. Upper St. Clair, PA. Burial was in the Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery. Bethel Park, PA. Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, assisted with arrangements.

Wallace William Bish

Oct. 31, 1929 to Nov. 2,1998
Wallace William Bish, 69, Monon, died Monday, Nov. 2, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born Oct. 31, 1929, to Edward and Helen Derackin Bish, in Chicago. He was married March 16, 1957, to Dolores Wheeler. She preceded him in death in 1993. He moved to Wolcott in 1986, and to Monon in 1996. He attended Chicago schools and worked as a truck driver. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Chicago and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

He is survived by three daughters, Pam O'Connell of Monticello and Lucy Powell and Helen Mills, both of Wolcott; two sons, Wally of Monon and Bob of Mesa Ariz.; a sister, Eleanor Ross of Berwyn, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was today at Foster Funeral Home in Wolcott, with the Rev. William Martin officiating. Burial was in Meadow Lake Cemetery in Wolcott.

Jeannette L. Blissitt

Sept. 16, 1934 to March 3, 2000
Jeannette L. Teter Blissitt, 65, 5042 N. Canyon Loop Rd., died Friday. March 3, 2000 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on Sept. 16, 1934 in Homeplace to Lora and Gladys Teter. She married Randal Blissitt on March 6, 1955 in Monon. He survives.

She was a 1952 graduate of Lebanon High School. She had lived in Monticello most of her life. She was a secretary at White County Memorial Hospital, retiring after 16 years. She had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Reynolds. She also was a member of the Women of the Moose in Monticello. Her husband; a son Danny (Lynnora) Blissitt of Brookston; daughters, Suzanne Blissitt and Sherry (Scott) Metzger of Monticello; sisters Carolyn Carpenter of Tipton and Virginia Knotts of Greenwood; and six grandchildren survive her. A brother. Richard A. Teter is deceased.

Funeral services were Tuesday. March 7, 2000 at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, with the Rev James R. Copeland officiating. Burial was at Riverview IOOF Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Anna B. Bol

May 1, 1915 to May 3, 1993
Anna B. Torrenga Bol, 78, R.1, Brookston, died Monday, May 3, at 6:45 p.m. in Milner Community Healthcare, Rossville.

She was born May 1, 1915, in Chicago, and spent most of her life in the Lafayette area. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School. She was a member of Lafayette Christian Reformed Church. She was married Dec. 25, 1937, to Leonard Bol, in Lafayette. He survives and farms in this area.

Also surviving are two sons, Arnold Bol, Rossville and Richard Bol, Chalmers; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Virginia) Dailey, Lafayette and Mrs Dallas (Charlotte) Paugh, Brookston, three sisters, Mrs. Stuart (Ugene) Fisher, Dayton; Mrs. Evelyn Kral, Lombard, Ill. and Mrs. Johanna Lehr, Illinois. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, one great grandchild. Preceding in death: 1 granddaughter, a brother and 2 sisters.

Service was in Hippensteel Chapel, this morning at 11:30 a.m. with Mr. Wayne Alderink officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Estelle T. Bossi

Oct. 25, 1916 to Feb. 10, 2000
Estelle T. Bossi, 83, died Thursday, Feb. 10, at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare.

She was born Oct. 25, 1916, to Steve and Anna Krizacic Zaborski, in East Chicago, Ind. She was married July 17, 1949, to Fred K. Bossi in Merrillville. He died Dec. 22, 1978. She graduated in 1934 from East Chicago Roosevelt High School. She also, was a graduate of Don Roberts Beauty College of Chicago. She was a homemaker and was retired from G.A.T.X. Corp, East Chicago. She had lived in the Monticello area for 50 years and was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.

She is survived by a nephew, Timothy Wolfe, Monticello; brothers, Steve Zaborski Jr. of Calumet City, Ill, and George Zaborski of Burnham, Ill, and a sister, Mary Berkowitz of Mishawaka. Two brothers and three sisters are deceased.

Funeral services were Sunday, at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. James R. Goodrum officiating. Burial was in the Hughes Cemetery, Monticello.

Memorials may be given to Hospice Care Inc., Lafayette.

Roger S. Bowsher

Feb. 14, 1922 to Nov. 20, 2000
Roger S. Bowsher, 78, Monticello, died Monday, Nov. 20, at SCCI Hospital, Kokomo.

He was born Feb. 14, 1922, to Joseph A. "Bert" and Ethel Mae Schnepp Bowsher, in Monticello. He was married March 7, 1942, to Betty J. Reeve, in White County and she survives. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1940. He was a lifelong resident of Monticello. He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He and Art Nuchols started Lakes TV in Monticello in 1949, and ran it for 10 years. He was also on the Monticello police force in 1950. He and Bill Rogers started B&R Furniture Store in Monticello in 1959 and operated it for over 25 years. He served as Union Township Trustee for 12 years and was presently the chairman of the Union Township Advisory Board. He was a member of the Monticello Church of the Nazarene for over 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Monticello I.0.O.F. Lodge No. 107 and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He managed the Country Termites music group for several years. He received the George Armstrong Spencer award in 1992. He was active in White County 4-H and helped start the 4-H Horse and Pony Club.

Surviving with his wife are three sisters, June Nace, Monticello; Shirley Caudle, Terreton, Idaho and Mildred McCoy of Battle Ground; and several nieces and nephews. Four brothers are deceased.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Williams officiating. Burial with military rites was in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Bob Boys

November 29, 1912 - October 14, 2001
Bob Boys, 88, of Monticello died Sunday, October 14, 2001, at Home Hospital in Lafayette.

He was born in Williamsport on November 29, 1912 to Joseph and Georgia Boys. He first married Leora Fix. She died in 1960. He then married Mary Lucy at Lafayette on May 27, 1961. She survives.

He worked at Purdue University for 24 years.

He and his wife Mary moved to the Monticello community in 1996. Before moving back to Monticello, they lived in Arizona and spent their summers here to be with family.

He was a member of the Monticello Christian Church.

He belonged to the square dance groups in the area and had danced all over the country.

Other survivors include a daughter, Doris Stacey Huber of Clarks Hill; a son David R. (Patricia) Boys of Brookston; a step daughter, Marietta Gurney, of Duluth, Ga.; a stepson, Gilbert (Joyce) Beaver of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Donald Boys of Sebring, Fla., 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Two sisters and two brothers are deceased.

Visitation is tonight from 4-8 p.m. at Miller-Roseka Funeral Home in Monticello and 9 — 10 a.m. Thursday at Monticello Christian Church. Services will be at l0:00 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Chris Dodson officiating.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Cemetery in Attica.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Monticello Christian Church.

Chauncey A. 'Pete' Bridge

July 4, 1922 to May 7, 1990
Chauncey A. 'Pete' Bridge, 67, R.5, Monticello, died Monday, May 7, in White Co. Memorial Hospital. He had been a patient there since Saturday. He had been in failing health for the last six months.

He was born July 4, 1922, to Lloyd G. and Anna Bowsher Bridge, in rural Monticello. He was married Feb. 23, 1947, to Mary Jane Mull, in Monticello. She survives. He farmed in White County and retired in 1984. He was a feed salesman for Moorman for 23 years. He was a member of Chalmers Community Church and the Chalmers American Legion Post No. 268. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1940. He was a captain in the Army during World War II and served in Battery A of 197th AAA Battalion. He received the purple heart and the bronze star He served in Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, Germany and central Europe.

Besides his wife, survivors in include 3 sons, Rev Thomas A., Seabrook, Texas; William H., Logansport and John L., Brookston; two daughters, Mrs Lou (Lori) Matarazzo, Delphi and Mrs Dennis (Lisa) Fleming, Earl Park; seven grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeff Bridge, both of Logansport, Sean Fleming, Earl Park, Dwayne Embrey, Seabrook, Texas and Doug, Kurt and Brent Nelson, all of Brookston; and four brothers, Grady, New Carlisle, Ohio; Ray, Mesa, Ariz., and Clyde and Lynn, both of Monticello.

The funeral was at 10 a.m., today, in Chalmers Community Church with the Rev. Loren Shuman officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of the service. Chalmers American Legion conducted the military graveside service at Pike Creek Cemetery, north of Monticello.

Ada F. Bush Brown

Feb. 17, 1921 to Dec. 31, 1992
Ada F. Bush Brown, 71, formerly of Brookston, died Thursday, Dec. 31, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.

She was born Feb. 17, 1921, to George and Gwendolyn Bush, in Washington County. She was married July 6, 1941, to Kenneth Albert Brown, in Salem, and he died Jan. 24, 1988. She had lived in Brookston since 1954 and was a resident of Regency Place in Lafayette, for the past year.

Survivors include five sons; Joe, Jack, Max and Michael, all of Brookston and Tom of Remington; a brother, Donald of Orleans; two sisters; Mrs Ruth Reynolds and Mrs Marsha Pruett, both of Mitchell; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The funeral was Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston, with the Rev. Lore Blinn Gibson officiating. Burial was in Spring Creek Cemetery.
