Kenneth A. Brown

Kenneth Albert Brown, 78, R.1, Brookston, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 12:54 a.m. in St Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, where he had been a patient since Dec 17.
He was born in Washington County on Jan. 14, 1912, to James and Anna Scott Brown. He married Ada Bush, in Salem on July 6, 1941. She survives. He moved to Brookston in 1954 and farmed nearby Curtis Farms from 1953 until 1985. He formerly attended Mt. Carmel Christian Church at Campbellsburg.
Surviving with his wife are five sons, Joe, Jack, Max, Michael and Tom, all of Brookston; two brothers, Russell, of Bedford; and Leo of Salem; three sisters, Mrs Mary Chastain, Salem; Mrs Grace Maudlin. Campbellsburg; and Mrs Mabel Brewer, Orleans; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Six brothers are deceased.
The funeral was Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with the Rev Duncan MacNab officiating.
Burial was in Spring Creek Cemetery
at Brookston.
Harley Bufkin
November 11, 1917 - March 11, 2002
Harley Bufkin, 84, Monticello died Monday, March 11, 2002 at White County Memorial Hospital. He was born November 11, 1917 in Dwight, Illinois the son of Christopher and Pearl Adams Bufkin.
The family lived in Rensselaer where he graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1937, then moved to Brookston in 1959 and to Monticello in 1979.
He married Artha L. Gosnell on December 8, 1938 in Powler, Indiana. She died November 2, 1997.
He was a salesman at Sears in Lafayette from l955 to 1970.
He was a member of Moose Lodge 1529 in Lafayette.
He and his wife operated Edwood Glen Country Club in West Lafayette from 1970 until his retirement in 1980.
A daughter Sandra Kay (Richard) Slusser of Monticello and a brother Clarence (Maxine) Bufkin of Reynolds survive him.
Two grand daughters Julie Bunch and Beth Murray also survive, along with five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston from 4~9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 2 p.m. on Thursday with Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds officiating.
Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brookston.
Memorials may be made to White County Visiting Nurse Hospice.
Margaret Ann Bulington
January 20, 1945 - March 14, 2001
Margaret Ann (Keith) Bulington, 56, of Monticello died Tuesday, March 14, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She had been ill for two months.
She was born January 20, 1945 in Richmond, Va., to John Emal and Susie Keith. She married Donald R. Bulington, Sr.. on August 11, 1963. He survives and lives in Missouri.
She had resided in the White County area for 23 years.
She was a certified nurse's assistant.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Don (Lori) Bulington and Stephen R. Bulington, both of Lafayette; daughters Carolyn (Dave) Welsh of Charlottsville, Va., and Patsy (Bob) Martin of Monticello; brothers Henry Keith of Richmond, Va., and John Emal Keith, Jr., of Lexington, Va.; and grandchildren, Loretta Bulington, David Welsh and Ted Welsh all of Charlottesville, Va., Cassandra Martin, Catrina Martin and Candice Martin, all of Monticello, and Kyle Bulington, Rachel Bulington and Lyndsey Bulington, all of Lafayette.
Funeral services were Friday at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon with Rev. Steve Birch officiating. Burial was in Osborne Cemetery, Rensselaer
Lela Nelson Bunnell
July 17, 1914 to Dec. 18, 1990
Lela P. Nelson Bunnell, 76, formerly of R.5, Monticello, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 4:41 a.m. in White Co. Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Dec. 12. She had been a resident of the Monticello Healthcare Center since October.
She was born July 17, 1914, in Prairie Township to Charles Custer and Della Harp Nelson. She was married July 14, 1934, to Eugene Bunnell in Monticello. He died Jan. 10, 1956. She graduated from Brookston High School in 1933, and was a member of Chalmers Community Church and Social Hour Club. She worked at Chalmers School as a cook, also at White Co. Hospital and Monticello Healthcare Center. She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary at Gary's Electric Motor Sales and Service in Reynolds, for 10 years.
Survivors include two sons, Paul, Monticello and Gary, Reynolds; one brother, Glen Nelson, Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs Esther Drayton, Waukegan, Ill. and Mrs Ethel Tye, Chicago; and. five grandchildren. One son and three brothers are deceased.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev Loren Shuman officiating. Friends may call Friday, 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery, northeast of Brookston.
Memorials can be made to Chalmers Community Church.
Sylvia M. Burks
June 29, 1904 to August 23, 1998
Sylvia M. Burks. 94, of Monon, died Sunday, August 23, at Monticello Healthcare Center. She had been in poor health for six months.
She was born June 29, 1904, to Ray and Clara Brennemon Simpson, in Francesville. She was married May 10, 1923, to Wilbur Burks, in Monticello, and he died October 13, 1979. She graduated from Monon High School in 1923, and had lived most of her life in the community. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Monon First Baptist church and a member of the Grandmothers Club in Kentiand.
Surviving are three sons, George and Ronald, both of Monon and Russell of Kentland; three daughters. JoAnn Hughes, Chalmers; Marjorie DeVault, Reynolds and Sue Dunn, Fayetteville, N.C.; 23 grandchildren: 39 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. A son, brother and two grandchildren are deceased.
Funeral services were this morning, at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon with the Rev Steve Birch officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Monon First Baptist Church.
Florence E. Buschman
April 8, 1915 - April 4, 2002
Florence E. Buschman, 86, Monticello, died Thursday, April 4, 2002 at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare.
She was born in Glenwood City, Wisc., on April 8, 1915, to Chris and Emma Wienke Ziemer. She married Clarence H. Buschman in Lafayette on November 6, 1931. He died September 24, 1990.
She lived on a farm in the Reynolds community most of her life and worked at Green Gables Restaurant in Reynolds for several years.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds.
She was a former member of the Honey Creek Home Economics Club and the Ladies Aid of St. James Lutheran Church, both of Reynolds.
Survivors include sons, Paul (Shirley) Buschman of Monticello and Fred (Mickey) Buschman of Ft. Wayne; a daughter Anne (Dwain) Wigner of Monticello; a sister, Hazel Wilhelm of Otterbein; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.
Four brothers are deceased.
Funeral services were Sunday, April 7th at St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds with Rev. William Parsons III officiating.
Burial was in St James Lutheran Cemetery
in Reynolds.
Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association Midwest Chapter or the St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds.
Harold R. Byers
June 19, 1916 to Nov. 19, 1988
Harold R. Byers, 72, West Lafayette, died 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 at Lafayette Home Hospital. He had been ill for three years and was in the hospital for nine days.
He was born June 19, 1916 to Clarence G. and Katie Rubright Byers, in Lafayette. He was married March 5, 1944, to Marie Steely in West Lafayette. She survives. He was a member of White Co. Farm Bureau for 32 years and president for 12 years. He was the director of White Co. REMC and past president of the REMC. He was a member of Soil and Water Conservation District in White County. He was a Sunday school teacher at Mount Zion United Methodist Church and chairman of Mount Zion Administration Board for many years. He was a farmer in White County for 40 years and after retiring moved to West Lafayette in 1981.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara A. Baugh, West Lafayette; a son, Thomas L. Brookston; a brother, Ralph "Dick", West Lafayette; two sisters, Maxine Neff, Otterbein and Emma Louise Horn, Brownsburg. Also three grandchildren. A son Steve, died in 1948. A brother, James is also deceased.
Funeral was Tuesday at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, West Lafayette, with the Rev. Dwight Monical officiating. Burial was in Montmorenci Cemetery, Montmorenci. Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel was in charge of service.
Isaac E. 'Ike' Carnahan
July 12, 1919 - Dec. 10, 1989
Isaac E. "Ike" Carnahan, 70, R.2, Delphi, died Sunday, Dec. 10, at 9:35 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital emergency room, Lafayette. He had been in failing health since August.
He was born July 12, 1919. to Clarence F. and Teresa C. Eaglehoff Carnahan, in Blanchester, Ohio. He was a retired farmer and construction worker. He was baptized at the Pious Chapel Church in Carroll County and had lived in Carroll County for 35 years.
Survivors include two sons, Lloyd, Monticello and Mike, Brookston; a daughter, Madeline Street, Brookston; 11 grandchildren; a great grandchild; a brother, Arthur, Burnettsville; and three sisters, Iris Malchow, R.2, Star City, lone Hubbard, Monticello and - Norma Coble, Winamac.
Funeral was conducted at Miller-Voorhis Funeral Home Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev Ed Summerfield officiating. Burial was in Hughes Cemetery.
Dale W. Carr
Dec. 24, 1900 - Nov. 23, 1991
Dale W. Carr, 90, a native of Brookston, formerly of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Saturday, Nov. 23, at 6 a.m. in Northwest Community Hospital, Chipley, Florida He had ill for 18 months.
He was born Dec. 24, 1900, to Frank and Laveda Wesner Carr, in Brookston, and was married to Fannie Scott, in Monticello, 1921. She expired Nov. 27, 1978. He lived in Monticello, from 1921-64 and St. Petersburg, Florida, for 18 years. He operated a restaurant in Monticello, for several years and was an accountant for Internal Revenue Service for several years. He attended the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello and was a member, of the Masonic Lodge, Monticello, and Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite.
Survivors are four sons: Dr. Richard, Douglasville, Ga.; Robert and Rex, both of Cottondale, Fla.; and Donald, Homestead, Fla.; three daughters, Yvonne Goatley, Albuquerque, N.M.; Lois Coble, Lafayette; Kay Shere, Dallas, Tx.; 18 grand and 19 great grand-children. A brother hind two sisters are deceased.
The funeral was today at 10:30 a.m. in Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Rev. James H. Rucker Jr. officiating. Burial was in Chalmers Cemetery.
