Elnora Acheson

April 25, 1914 to June 22, 2000
Elnora Klaiber Acheson, 86, of West Lafayette, died Thursday, June 22, at Home Hospital, Lafayette.

She was born April 25, 1914, to Louis and Mary Pattee Klaiber, in Americus. She was married May 23, 1938, to Claude Densel Acheson in the family home near Soldiers Home. He died June 8, 1988.

She was a 1932 graduate of Battle Ground High School.

She worked as a bookkeeper at S. S. Kresege until 1939.

She was a Tippecanoe Township Trustee from 1967-70 and an election board worker. She served on the Tippecanoe County Extension Board and was a director of the Tippecanoe County Exhibit Association.

She was a member of Battle Ground United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the OES, a member and former officer of the Pleasant Grove Grange, the Tippecanoe Co. Pomona Grange, and the Indiana State Grange, where she served as state treasurer.

She was active with Alcoa Retirees Club and Cairo Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed playing euchre and watching her grandchildren in their activities.

She is survived by a son, retired Col. Denny (Melba) Acheson of Omaha; daughters, Claudia (Donald) Peterson of Williamston, Mich. and Pattie (Dennis) Frist of Round Grove); sister, Marie Nelson, Lafayette; grandchildren, Marrisa Acheson, Capt. Melissa Acheson, Anna-Lisa and Mark Lonier, John and Paula Kerber, Capt. Mark Kerber, Stephen Kerber, Johanna, Erin and Lucas Frist.

A sister, two brothers and grandson, Kurt David Kerber, are deceased.

Funeral service was Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston. Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association and the National Kidney Foundation.

Billy Rodger Adkins

December 15, 1945 - April 14, 2002
Billy Rodger Adkins, 56, of Monon died at his residence on Sunday, April 14th.

He was born December 15, 1945 in Morehead. Kentucky, the son of Oscar and Della (Keeton) Adkins.

He married Judith Ann Pullins on November 12, 1976 in Monticello. She died June 23, 1997.

He attended the Morehead (KY) schools. He was a welder at Monon Trailer Company in Monon for over 20 years.

Survivors include a son Rick (Karen) Adkins of Buffalo; step-daughter Cindy (Tom) Overmyer of Evansville, IN; his mother, DeIla Adkins, of Monticello; a brother Tom (Rita) Adkins of Monon, four sisters; Joanna Hensley, Monon, Jean Kidd, of Columbia City, and Kathleen (Delmar) Goodrian of Mendon, Mich., Betty (Mac) Alderson, Mendon, Michigan; and his companion, Kenta Adkins, of Monon. He had six grandchildren.

His father, one sister, three brothers and one son preceded him in death.

Funeral services were today at Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer with Rev. Larry Piatt officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Rensselaer.

Jerry W. Adkins

Feb. 23, 1956 to April 6, 1999
Jerry W. Adkins, 43, of Monon, died Tuesday April 6, 1999 at White County Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Moorehead, Ky. on Feb. 23, 1956 to Oscar and Della Keeton Adkins.

He lived in White County most of his life.

He was a former forklift operator at HPA Monon Corp., where he worked for 22 years.

Surviving are his mother, of Monon; one daughter, Erica Adkins of Buffalo; four sisters, Joanna Hensley of Monon, Ora Jean Kidd of Columbia City. and Betty June Alderson and Kathleen Goodman, both of Mendon. Mich,; and several nieces and nephews.

His father, two brothers and one sister are deceased.

Funeral services were Saturday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev Steve Birch officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Monon First Responders.

Jean A. Agnello

April 23, 1928 - May 16, 2001
A memorial service for Jean A. Agnello. 73, of Bellevue, Washington, formerly of Montmorenci, Indiana was held on Monday, May 21, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church of Bellevue.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2001 in Montmorenci. Mrs. Agnello passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2001 in Kirkland, Washington.

Mrs. Agnello was born April 23, 1928 in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin, the daughter of J.C. and Gladys Ralston. She was raised in Montmorenci and graduated from Montmorenci High School in 1946. In 1968 she moved to Beaverton, Oregon. While a resident of Beaverton, Mrs. Agnello sang with the Forest Grove Gleemen and Girls choral group. The group toured Europe in 1970 where they sang at the Salzburg Music Festival in Austria and also for Princess Grace in Monaco.

On October 19,1973, she married Joseph A. Agnello in Beaverton, Oregon and they moved to Bellevue. Mrs. Agnello, a member of the National Society of Daughters of American Revolution, and served as Regent of David Douglas Chapter in Redmond, Washington. She also was a member of the Bellevue First United Church. She was particularly active in the United Methodist Church Women's Organization. In her leisure time Mrs. Agneilo enjoyed golf, sewing, music, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. The family remembers Mrs. Agnello as having an ever-present beautiful smile and giving 110% effort in everything that she did. They further stated that she was devoted to her family, church and country.

Mrs. Agnello is survived by her husband Joseph, of Bellevue; four children, Linda Harris of Beaverton, Oregon. Steve Ricklefs, of York, Pennsylvania, Steven Agnello, of Atlanta, Georgia and Christine Tompa of Bellevue; two sisters, Marge Sheets of West Lafayette, Indiana and Ruth Johanssen of Toledo, Ohio; two brothers, Robert G. Ralston, of Indianapolis, Indiana and Dr. John C. Ralston, Jr. of Glendale, Arizona; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist Church, Bellevue, Washington, or Evergreen Hospice, 12822 124th Lane N.E., Kirkland, Washington 98034.

Joan A. Alexander

Sept. 23, 1930 to March 6, 1987
Joan A. (Lowry) Alexander, 58, 505 S. Prairie, Brookston, died at 8:10 a.m. Friday, March 6, in St Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. She had been a patient at the hospital since March 3.

She was born Sept. 23, 1930, in Hammond to Roy and Amanda (Winters) Lowry who survives and live at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette. She married Bernard Alexander, Feb. 18, 1950, in Kentland. He survives also.

She lived the past 33 years in Brookston and was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette.

Surviving with her parents and husband are four daughters, Mrs. Terence (Nancy) Goodman, Evansville; Mrs. Terry (Donna) Gaylord, Fowler; Mrs. Todd (Diane) Smith, Brookston and Mrs. Brad (Cathy) Meyers, Battle Ground; two brothers, Raymond Lowry of Raymondsville, Texas and Leroy Lowry, Wolcott; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Provo, Wolcott, Mrs. Forrest (Romana) Austin, West Lafayette and Mrs. Howard (Jane) Pitstick, Earl Park; and nine grandchildren. One brother is deceased.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Church, Lafayette, with Father Ray Chappa, OFM, officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston was in charge of services.

Burial was at I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Howard E. Allen

Jan. 16, 1932 to July 14, 1999
Howard E. Allen, 67, Mon ticello, died Wednesday, July 14, at 5:30 p.m. in Monticello.

He was born Jan. 16, 1932, to Charles H. and Nellie Cottingham Allen, in White County.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956.

He had lived in White County all his life.

He worked for RCA in maintenance for 34 1/2 years, then worked for Jorda Manufacturing for nine years.

He was a member of the VFW, AMVETS, Redmens Lodge, Eagles Lodge and Moose Lodge, all of Monticello.

He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Davis, Huntsville, Ala.; three sons, Gary Bingham, Madison, Ala., Terry Allen, Burnettsville and Richard AIlen; a brother, John, Monticello, a sister, Margaret Martin, Monticello; a companion, Phyllis Carlson, Monticello and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service was conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, with the Rev. James R. Copeland officiating.

Juanita M. Allen

May 5, 1923 - May 10, 2001
Juanita M. Allen, 78, of Monon, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

She was born May 5, 1923, in Buffalo, to Otto and Mary McIntire Hunt. She married Paul L. Allen on May 5, 1946, in Rensselaer. He died on May 4, 1992.

She lived in Monon her entire life. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Eagles Auxiliary #2788, the Modern Homemakers Home Ec Club and the Milroy Home Ec Club.

Surviving are three daughters; Marjorie (George) Garling, of Monon, Pauletta (Marvin) Perry of Royal Center and Coleen (Richard) Henson of Arizona City, Ariz.; a son, John Allen of Monon, 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Donald Hunt of Westville, Stanley (Shirley) Hunt of Michigan City, Norman (Dorothy) Hunt of Francesville and Robert (Judy) Hunt of Monon and a sister, Patricia (Edwin) Rodehan of Monticello.

One brother and two sisters are deceased.

Funeral services were Saturday, May 12, at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon with Pastor Don Newman officiating.

Burial was in Buffalo Cemetery.

Leon M. Allen

December 12, 1923 - August 6, 2001
Leon M. Allen, 77, of Reynolds died Monday, August 6, 2001 at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare.

He was born in Brookston on December 12, 1923, to Benjamin H. and Minnie Austin Allen. He married Phyllis Beasey in Lafayette on February 24, 1945. She survives.

He was a 1942 graduate of Chalmers High School. He had lived in Chalmers and Reynolds all of his life.

He was part owner of the Allen & Holcomb Construction Company for several years. He also owned an agricultural limestone business and was a farmer. He drove a school bus for Reynolds and North White schools.

He was a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church and also served as a trustee.

He served on the White County Fair Board for several years. He was a former member of Knights of Pythias Lodge in Reynolds.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Gary (Carol) Allen of Battle Ground and Ron (Sharon) Allen of Reynolds; two daughters, Deb (Mike) Ingram of Reynolds and Kathy Spencer of New Haven, 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, two sisters and a grandson are deceased.

Services were Wednesday at Reynolds United Methodist Church with Rev. Bryan Ton officiating. Burial was in Bedford Cemetery.

Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home was in charge of the service.

Memorials may be made to Reynolds United Methodist Church.
