Clyde D. Bridge

Dec. 9, 1917 to August 6, 1998
Clyde D. Bridge, 80, Monticello, died Thursday, August 6, at his residence. He had been ill for sometime,

He was born Dec. 9, 1917, to Lloyd G. and Anna Bowsher Bridge, in White County. He was married Sept. 10, 1977, to Lin Tustin at his residence and she survives. He had lived all of his life in the Monticello area. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1935. He farmed for 30 years and was White County Auditor for six years and served as Liberty Township Trustee for eight years. He worked at the Monticello State and Savings Bank for 50 years. He was a member of the Pike Creek Church of the Brethren since he was 12 years old. He served the church as deacon, treasurer and was a member of the church board. He was also a Sunday school teacher for 50 years. He was a member of the Monticello Kiwanis Club from 1966-96 and he volunteered for the White County Food Pantry and was a Gideon for seven years.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters Rosalyn Hahn and Janet Sellers, both of Logansport; Judith Wagner of Findlay, Ohio; and Martha Duff of Delphi; a stepson, Freddie H. Laber, Rockfield; a stepdaughter, Melodie Lin Payne, West Lafayette; two brothers, Ray of Mesa, Ark. and Lynn of Monticello; 24 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Two brothers are deceased.

Services were Monday in the Pike Creek Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Jason Metzinger and the Rev. Tom Bridge officiating. Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge. Burial was in Pike Creek Cemetery, Monticello.

Memorial donations can be made to the Pike Creek Church of the Brethren or the St. Elizabeth Hospital Hospice Program.

Roberta J. Ayres Brim

July 3, 1924 - February 27, 2001
Roberta J. Ayres Brim, 75, 2280 N. West Shafer Dr., died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Cape Coral, Florida.

She was born July 3, 1924, in Bringhurst, to Colbert Bruce and Rachel Edith Retherford Ayres. She married John I. Brim in Bringhurst, Nov. 24, 1946, and he survives.

She was a 1942 graduate of Flora High School. She lived in Monticello since 1961 and wintered in Cape Coral, Florida, for more than 20 years.

She and her husband founded Brim Concrete in Flora, in 1946. The opened a plant in Monticello in 1949, and are now operating in Monticello, Delphi and Flora. She purchased the first ready mix cement truck for the company in 1948, which was one of the first trucks in Indiana.

She was a member of Psi Iota Xi sorority in Flora for many years.

She was an avid golfer and had made two holes-in-one at Tippecanoe Country Club. She also played bridge in the Ladies Bridge Club at Tippecanoe Country Club.

She is survived by her husband; son, Brad (Lora) Brim of Monticello; a daughter, Kristen (Mike) Sullivan of Monticello; a sister, Carmen Border of Monon; brother, Bill Ayres of Flora; grandchildren, Jonathan Brim, Betsy Brim, Sloan Sullivan and Summer Sullivan Clugston; and two great grandchildren.

Services were Saturday, March 3, at 10:30 in the Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, with the Rev. Robert Fosselman officiating.

Burial was in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes. Association.

Donald Jack Brookshire

September 5, 1925 - February 15, 2002
Donald Jack Brookshire, 76, of Monticello died Friday, February 15, 2002 at Twin Lakes Village, Monticello.

He was born in White County on September 5, 1925, to Leonard and Pearl M. Kestle Brookshire. He attended Chalmers High School.

He was a US Army veteran of World War II.

He was a semi truck driver and was retired.

He is survived by a sister, Roberta (Merl) Conway of Westlake, Ohio.

A son, Gary, and brothers Max and Robert are deceased.

Graveside inurnment services were Tuesday at Chalmers Community Cemetery with Pastor Bill Henderson officiating.

Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston was in charge of services. Memorials may be made to the Chalmers Community Church elevator fund.

LeRoy W. Brooks

Jan. 22, 1925 to Nov. 19, 1996
LeRoy W. Brooks, 71, Brookston, died at his home Tuesday, Nov. 19. He had been in ill health the past 18 months.

He was born Jan. 22, 1925, in Newmanstown, Pa., and moved to Lafayette, when he was 16 and had lived for the past four years in Brookston, moving from Lafayette. He was married Nov. 9,1946, to L. Evelyn Mourning in Lafayette and she survives. Mr. Brooks had worked for GTE for 32 years, retiring in 1978. He had been a lineman, cable splicer and worked on the test board. During World War II he served in the Army and was an avid golfer, fisherman and bowler.

Surviving with his wife are four daughters; Mrs. Hugh (Linda) Hester, Sibley, La.; Mrs. John (Connie) Lazar, San Antonio, TX.; Mrs. William (June) Brown, Lafayette and Mrs. Michael (Janet). Payne, Brookston; two sons, Erroll Brooks and Larry Brooks, both of Romney. Also 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren survive. A sister preceded him in death.

Services were held Friday in Hippensteel Chapel, Lafayette, with Pastor Ross Terry officiating. Interment was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

Contributions. may be given in memory to Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Ray Arthur Broughton

May 29, 1938 to Dec. 17, 1989
Ray Arthur Broughton, 51, 207 Indiana Beach Road, died at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, Dec.17, at Monticello Healthcare Center.

He was born May 29, 1938, to Chester A and Virginia Hurley Broughton, in White County. He was married Sept. 10, 1980, to Fern Wright, in Rustburg, Va., and she survives. He attended the Zion Bethel Church, Rt. 3, Monticello.

Survivors also include two sons, Thomas. Logansport and Tim of Fowler; two stepdaughters, Michelle Facemyer, Chalmers and Thersea Holdoen, Bedford, Va.; three stepsons, Thomas Cobb Jr.., Danny Cobb and Jeffrey Cobb, all of Monticello; three brothers, Lyle, Darlington; Darrell, Burnettsville and Kirby, Burnettsville; five sisters, Wilma Lee Woolard, Washington, Ill.; Mary Caudel, Burnettsville; JoAnn Clevenger. Peru; Shirley Osborn, Logansport and Ruth Ann Kilgore, Bumet, Texas; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Bethel Church with the Rev Jeff Messer officiating. Fisher Funeral Home was in charge of the service. Burial was in Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville.

Memorial contributions can be made to the church.

Caryl A. Brown Nee Ready [i.e., nee Ready]

[1914?] - December 13, 2001
Caryl A. Brown Nee Ready, 87, Merrillville, died Thursday, December 13, 2001 at St. Anthony Medical Center in Merrillville.

Her husband Calvin, a son Harry (Janice) Shewmaker of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of Monon; a daughter Nancy Whitcomb of Schererville; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, survive her.

Also surviving are three sisters; Cap Suto of Whiting, IN; Ruby Duffala of Merrillville; Ruth Durkovich of Munster and two brothers; Forest Ready of Gary and Lester Ready of Florida.

A brother, Clayton Ready, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Brown was a very active member of the United Methodist Church of Dyer and Crown Point, a member of the Rebecca Auxiliary of the Odd Fellows Lodge of East Chicago and a registered nurse at St. Catherine's Hospital in East Chicago.

A private funeral service was held at the Geisen Funeral Home in Merrillville.

Harold E. Brown

March 16, 1940 to Sept. 15, 1987
Harold E. "Snorky" Brown, 41, Brookston, died unexpectedly early Tuesday in the emergency room at St Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Lafayette.

Mr. Brown was an Air Force veteran of the Vietname War and had been the service manager at Aquarius Pools in Lafayette for the past five years. He was born March 16, 1940, in Lafayette, and was a 1960 graduate of Jefferson High School. He had lived in the Lafayette area most of his life before moving to Brookston 16 years ago. He was married to Connie Bell, Sept. 16, 1969 in Lafayette, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Michelle Leigh Brown; and three sons, Michael, David and Danny Brown, all at home; his parents Harold and Betty Brown, Battle Ground; and a brother Gerald "Jerry" Brown of Lafayette, also maternal grandmother Leona Swisher.

Service was in Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Friday, with Pastor B. James Walter officiating. Interment Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Mary M. Brown

October 19, 1912 - February 2, 2002
Mary M. Brown, 89, George Davis Manor, Lafayette and formerly of Monon died Saturday, Pebmary 2, 2002 at George Davis Manor. She had lived there for the past 6 years. She had been in failing health for the past 8 years.

She was born October 19, 1912 in Darlington, Indiana the daughter of George and Minnie Remley Malsbary.

She married Kenneth Brown on November 25, 1935 in Monon. He died March 20, 1971.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Monon most of her life.

She graduated from Monon High School in 1932.

She was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church.

One brother Joe Malsbary of West Lafayette survives her. One brother preceded her in death.

There was a direct cremation and no visitation is planned. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery, Monon at a later date.

Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon is handling arrangements.

Patsy I. Brown

March 19, 1937 to May 11, 1991
Patsy I. Brown, 54, 821 W. 225N, Monticello, a former White County official, died Saturday, May 11, at 8 p.m. at her residence. She had been seriously ill for one year.

She was born March 19, 1937, to J. Ford and Reva Marshall Chamberlain, in White County. She was married May 19, 1956, to Jerry A. Brown, in Monticello. He survives. She was a life resident of White County and was reared in Chalmers. She was a 1955 graduate from Chalmers High School.. She was a member of Monticello Christian Church and attended Lake Shafer Christian Center. She was a former deaconess and church secretary. She was a member of Delta Theta Tau Beta alumni sorority. She was an employee at Monticello Post Office from 1967-90. She served as White Co. Recorder from 1974-77.

Survivors besides her husband are two daughters; Becky Jo, Indianapolis and Jacqueline, Monticello; two sons, Dan, Monticello and Ted, Indianapolis; two brothers, Max Chamberlain, Wolcott and Don Chamberlain; Chalmers; and five grandchildren. One daughter, a grandchild and a sister are deceased.

The funeral was Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Miller-Voorhis Funeral Home, Monticello, the Pastor Nate Pyle and the Rev Don Arterburn officiating. Burial was in lOOF Riverview Cemetery.
