Ella Mae Getsinger

April 8, 1910 - December 1, 2000
Ella Mae Blake Getsinger, 90, of Monon died Friday, December 1, 2000, at Mary Bartz Hospice Center in Valparaiso.

She was born on April 8, 1910 in Monon, the daughter of John and Cora Belle Botts Blake. She married Elmer Dennis Getsinger on August 2, 1935 in Gary. He is deceased.

She lived in Gary until moving back to Monon.

She was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, Dennis (Jesse) Getsinger of Provo, Utah; a sister Pearle Blake Thrasher of Cape Coral, Florida; grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and friends.

A daughter Kay Getsinger, stepdaughter, Elizabeth Zinn; and sisters, Mazie Herbert, Hilda Blake and Kathryn Hitson are deceased

Funeral service was Tuesday at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon with Rev. Matt Pickut officiating.

Burial was in Bedford Cemetery.

Richard N. Gholston

January 28, 1926 - March 27, 2002
Richard N. Gholston, 75, of Brookston, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Regency Place, Lafayette.

He was born on January 28, 1926, in El Reno, Oklahoma, to William Abner and Maude Mae Condry Gholston.

He moved to Brookston from Gary in 1982 after retiring as a round house foreman for the EJ and E Railroad, which serviced U.S. Steel, Gary Works.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was a 32nd degree mason in the Steel City Chapter, Gary.

Surviving are his daughter, Jana (Fred) Neligh of Brookston, with whom he lived; a son, Gregg (Johnna) Gholston of Springboro, Ohio; a brother, Hollis Gholston and sister, Velma Callaway, both of El Reno, Oklahoma; and six grandchildren, Richard, Jenna and Ross Hosler; Jacob, Daniel and Marcus Gholston.

Four brothers, a sister and one grandson are deceased.

Graveside services will be conducted later this week in El Reno Cemetery in El Reno, Oklahoma.

Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Francis H. 'Hack' Gillespie

October 3, 1904 - April 4, 1993
Francis H. "Hack" Gillespie, 88, Monticello, died Sunday, April 4, in Monticello Healthcare Center. He had been in declining health for several months and seriously ill the last six months.

He was born Oct. 3, 1904, to Harley and Frances Stalker Gillespie, near Scottsburg. He was married Jan. 4, 1929, to Alma L. Pollock in Wolcott. She survives.

He graduated from Wolcott High School in 1923, and received a bachelor's degree from Depauw University in 1927 and his master's degree in 1932, from Purdue.

In 1927, he began his teaching career at Brookston High School. He was a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent at Monticello High School from 1931 until 1947. He served as Monticello School Superintendent from 1947 until he retired in 1969.

He was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church and former member of the Masonic Lodge at Monticello. He was a charter member of the Monticello Kiwanis Club and a pst state lieutenant governor of Kiwanis.

He served as a member of the Three Rivers Boy Scout Council, Monticello-Union Township Public Library Board, White Co. United Way Board and chairman of the White Co. Red Cross during the tornado of April 1974 recovery period.

He was honored with the George Armstrong Spencer award in 1988, by the Greater Monticello Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving with his wife are two sons; Everett N., Monticello and Edwin L., Indianapolis; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Eileen L.) Washburn, Rochester; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Three brothers and two sisters are deceased.

The funeral was Wednesday in Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, the Rev. Michael Brown officiating.

Burial was in IOOF Riverview Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the White Co. United Way.

Minnie R. Gipson

March 4, 1915 - July 24, 1991
Minnie R. (Reynolds) Gipson, 93, formerly of Brookston, died July 24, in Sarasota, Florida. She was born June 8, 1898, in Reynolds, and had lived in Brookston most of her life. She was the daughter of Levi and Clara Burns, Reynolds.

She married March 4, 1915, to Manford Gipson, in Monticello. He died in 1950.

Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Lu1a Mae) Schoole, Sarasota, Florida. She had 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. One son preceded her in death.

The body was cremated in Florida and graveside inurnment service for family and friends will be Sunday at 1 p.m. in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Brookston, with Rev Loren Shuman officiating. Arrangements are by Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.

The family requests memorials be made to the charity of your choice.

Robert L. Gipson

October 31, 1915 - February 25, 1990
Robert L. Gipson, 74, formerly of Brookson, died at 7:07 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, in Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne,

He was born October 31, 1915, in Brookson, to Manfred and Minnie P. Reynolds Gipson. He was married February 12, 1946, in Fort Wayne, to Mary Catherine Thiesen, who survives.

He served in the Navy during World War II. He was employed as Regional Area Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds at Fort Wayne Community Schools. He was also a member of Our Most Precious Blood Catholic Church of Fort Wayne. He lived in the Fort Wayne area for the past 44 years.

Surviving are 3 sons, Daniel L., Avilla, Ind., John M., Fort Wayne and Douglas A., Churubusko, Ind., 5 daughters, Catherine L. Watkins, New Haven, Ind., Teri A. Zielinski, South Bend, Ind., Jennifer J. Forney, Roberta L. Harding and Rhonda S. Gipson, all of Fort Wayne. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, 1 sister, Lu Scholle, Sarasota, Florida and his mother also of Sarasota.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 28, in D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home and at Our Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, Rev Leroy Moruuw officiated.

Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne.

John W. Girton

July 31, 1915 - July 19, 1987
John W. Girton, 71, formerly of Chalmers, a retired Sears Roebuck and Co. employee, died Sunday, of an apparent heart attack, in the emergency room at White County Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Girton was assistant mgr. at Sears in Monticello for 33 years and retired in 1977 from the Sears Store in Logansport.

He was born July 31, 1915, in Michigan City. He lived in Chalmers before moving to Monticello.

Mr. Girton was a member of the Chalmers Community Church. He also belonged to the 1007 Lodge 197 and Moose Lodge 906, both in Monticello.

He was married in October, 1960, in Chalmers, to Thelma Ruth Banes. She preceded him in death Oct. 21, 1980.

Surviving are a son, Philip Girton of Delphi; one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Nancy) Cripe, also of Delphi. Five stepsons, Robert L. Banes of Phoenix, AZ, Stanley E. and Paul L. Banes, both of Monticello, Donald E. Banes of Chalmers and George W. Banes of Frankfort. A half sister, Beverly Perrin of Dyer, and two brothers, Warren Girton of Kokomo and Charles Girton of Huntington. He had 25 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

One brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. today at the Chalmers Community Church with Rev. Loren Shuman officiating. Burial will be in the Chalmers Community Cemetery.

Hartzler Funeral Home of Brookston is in charge of the services.

Leonard A. Goodman

July 8, 1912 - December 8, 1986
Leonard A Goodman, 74, R.2, Brookston, died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday in the emergency room at Home Hospital in Lafayette. He had been seriously ill the past year.

He was born in Big Clifty, Kentucky, on July 8, 1912. His marriage was June 17, 1978, to Norma Beavers Wallace, who survives.

He worked in Monticello for Chem-Tron for five years, retiring in 1977. He worked previously as an auto mechanic for the former Luse-Alkire Oldsmobile dealership in Monticello and the former Fireproof Garage in Lafayette.

He was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Delphi.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Ann Brown, Moulton, Alabama; and Mrs. Rita Watson, Mission Hills, Calif.; four sons, Henry, Culver; Vern, San Diego, Calif. and Gene and Rick, both Galveston; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Brenda Howard, R.2, Brookston; two stepsons, Lloyd Wallace, Baltimore, Md; and Jack Wallace, R.2, Delphi.

Also one brother, Coy Charles Goodman, Lafayette; three sisters, Della Payne, San Diego, Calif; Clara Pettitt, Baldwin Park, Calif; and Lucille Terry, R.5, Monticello; 22 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. One brother, one sister and three grandchildren are deceased.

The services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Delphi Pentecostal Church with Rev. Tim Stewart officiating. Horn Funeral Home, Delphi, was in charge of services.

James Arthur Goodwin

October 12, 1912 - June 28, 1997
James Arthur Goodwin, 84, Wolcott, died Saturday, June 28 at 7 p.m. in his home. He had been ill for two months.

He was born Oct. 12, 1912, to Andrew and Eva Campbell Goodwin, in Onarga, Ill. He was married in 1936 to Margaret Humphrey, who survives.

He had lived since childhood in the Wolcott area and attended North School near Wolcott.

He was a farmer and attended Palestine Christian Church.

Surviving is a son, Arthur Goodwin; Remington; and three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A son, three sisters and brother are deceased.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Foster Funeral Home, Wolcott with the Rev. Thomas Fox officiating.

Burial was in the Remington Cemetery.
