Timothy M. Hardy

Timothy M. Hardy, 58, 4523 E. Fairway Court, died Sunday. April 21, at 11:55 p.m. at White County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 29, 1943, in Elwood, to Charles F. and Margaret A. Murphy Hardy. He was married March 28, 1998, to Esther Rinker and she survives.
He was a graduate of Indiana State University and received his master's degree in education.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was the one and only manager of Indiana Beach Campground in Monticello for 31 years.
He was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the IMHA/RVIC, which is the state campground board, and the ARVC, which is the national campground board.
He was the founder of the I.C.E. program at both North White and Twin Lakes. He was also a member of Junior Achievement.
He was a member of the M.L.R.A. (MonticeIlo Lakes Resort Association). He was a member of the Greater Monticello Chamber of Commerce.
He enjoyed being with family and friends at the campground.
Other survivors include a son, Christopher Hardy of Monticello; and a sister, Christina Miller of Anderson.
Two brothers are deceased.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello. Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery, Monon.
Memorials may be made to the Monon United Methodist Church lift project or the American Cancer Society.
Eva May Hendress
March 11, 1935 - December 27, 2001
Eva May Hendress, 66, of Reynolds died Thursday, December 27, 2001 at the home of her daughter in Lafayette. She had been in failing health for several months.
She was born in White County on March 11, 1935, to Leonard "Bud" and Anna Stephens Holeman. She married Merle LaVerne Hendress in Reynolds on October 3, 1953. He died November 19, 1997.
She was a graduate of Reynolds High School and had resided in Reynolds most of her life.
She was a secretary for several years with Chalmers American Legion Auxiliary and retired due to failing health.
She was a member of the former Reynolds Christian Church, which is now the Reynolds United Community Baptist Church. She played the organ at the church for many years.
She loved baking, quilting, bowling and playing euchre.
Survivors include daughters Dianna (Larry D. Jr.) Myers, Lake Villa, IL, Cheryl (Jim) Willison, Lafayette and Susan (John) Shidler, Reynolds; sons Kevin (Debbie) Hendress, Monon, Dwayne Eugene (DeLea) Hendress and Eric Scott (Carol) Hendress, both of Reynolds, and Dennis A. (Tammy) Hendress, Brookston; a twin sister, Judy Ramey of Loveland, Colo.; sisters Karen Mathew, Reynolds, Ruth McCormick, Chalmers, Marge Lake of Lafayette, Ellen Buchs of Waterloo, Joanna Nesbitt of Garrett, Cathy Newman, Lafayette and Tina Coffman, Oxford; brothers Joe Sain of Ft. Wayne, Kenny Sain of Vermont, Gerald Sain of Texas, Carlyn Sain and Frank Nesbitt, both of Ft. Wayne and Jeff Holeman of Kokomo; 23 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A sister, Helen De Nesbitt, is deceased.
Funeral Services were Sunday at the Reynolds United Community Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Martin officiating. Miller-Roscka Funeral Home was in charge.
Burial was in Chalmers Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the St. Elizabeth Hospice Program.
Merle L. Hendress
May 1926 - November 19, 1997
Merle LaVerne Hendress 71, Reynolds, died Wednesday, Nov. 19 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. He had been in failing health for the last several months.
He was born May is, 1926, to George and Amy Pearl White Hendress, in Sheldon, Ill. He was married Oct. 3,1953, to Eva Mae Holeman, in Reynolds and she survives
He had lived in the Reynolds community for 44 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as an Army medic.
He had farmed for 47 years and was also a construction worker.
He was a member of the Reynolds Christian Church for over 40 years. During his years in the church he served as a trustee, elder, deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, treasurer and was a former chairman of the board.
He was a member of the Chalmers American Legion Post No. 268.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Larry D. (Dianna) Myers Jr. Of Lake Villa, Ill.; Mrs. Jim (Sheryl) Willison, Lafayette and Mrs. Kenneth (Susan) Hughes, Wolcott; and four sons, Kevin Merle, Monon; Dwayne Eugene, Monticello; and Dennis Alan and Eric Scott, both of Reynolds; two brothers, Albertof Wolcott and Wendell of Reynolds; 16 grandchildren and one great grandson
Two brothers and a sister are deceased.
Funeral services were Saturday at Reynolds Christian Church with Stan Lindsey and Jerry Lilly officiating.
Miller-Roseka Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of the service.
Burial was in the Chalmers Cemetery. Graveside military rites were conducted by Chalmers American Legion Post No. 268.
Memorials may be given either to the Hendress family or the Reynolds Christian Church.
Malcolm Herrington Jr.
April 14, 1932 - September 10, 2000
Malcolm Truman Herrington, Jr., 68, Monticello, died Sunday, Sept. 10, at his residence.
He was born April 14, 1932, to Malcolm Truman Sr. and Ruth Ethel Collins Herrington, in Washington, Ind. He was married Nov. 8, 1952, to Anna Charlene Halstead in Indianapolis and she survives.
He was an Army veteran of the
Korean War.
He moved to the Buffalo area in 1990 from Indianapolis.
He owned and operated Treelawn Landscaping Co. in Indianapolis for 10 years. He worked for 30 years for Western electric Division of AT&T in Indianapolis.
He was a member of Buffalo Christian Church and a member of the IBEW Union in Indianapolis.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Mrs. Lee (Linda) Stephan, Indianapolis; sons, Gary (Kathy) Herrington, Nixa, Mo. and Malcolm T. (Meg) Herrington, III, of Evansville; sister Jane Phelps, Indianapolis; brother, Dale (Patricia) Herrington, Monticello; nine grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Funeral services were Wednesday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, with Frank Hicks officiating.
Burial with military rites was in Buffalo Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Buffalo Christian Church Building Fund.
Eugene M. Holderly
July 24, 1915 - May 1, 1994
Eugene M. Holderly, 78, Rt. 1, Chalmers, died Sunday morning, May 1, at his home. He had been in failing health for one year.
He was born in Wolcott to Ed ward Holderly and Mamie Bell on July 24, 1915. He married Aldine Toumine in Chalmers on March 16, 1952, and she survives.
He attended Wolcott schools and was a lifelong resident of the area. His occupation was farming.
He was a member of the Chalmers Community Church.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Sid E. and Stan L., both of Chalmers; two sisters, Mrs. O.E. (Mary) Pacey of Brookston and Mrs. Edward (Elizabeth) Brehmer of Reynolds; and five grandchildren.
Three brothers are deceased.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Loren Shuman officiating.
Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Chalmers Community Church.
Miles E. Holderly
October 17, 1909 - April 20, 1987
Miles E. Holderly, 77, a retired Remington businessman, died at 6:45 p.m. Monday in St Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. He had been a patient there for three months.
Mr. Holderly worked as a mechanic for B.C. Fowler International Harvester in Remington for several years and in 1948, purchased the business and renamed it Holderly Implement Co. He was later joined in the business by one of his brothers, Melvin Holderly of Monticello.
He retired in 1985. An auto enthusiast, be enjoyed searching for old model cars, which he bought and restored.
A native of Deshlar, Ohio, he was born Oct. 17, 1909 and moved to the Chalmers area as a small child with his parents. He lived in the Remington Hotel, which was near his downtown business for 50 years. After retiring he moved from Remington to Chalmers.
Surviving with his brother, Melvin of Monticello, are another brother, Eugene Holderly, Chalmers; and two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Elizabeth) Brehmer of Reynolds, Mrs. Orson (Mary) Pacey of Brookston. A brother preceded him in death.
Services were today at 1 p.m. at the Stitz Funeral Home in Remington, with the Rev Loren Shuman officiating. Interment was in Chalmers Cemetery.
Verle B. Hughes
October 14, 1914 - August 2, 1988
Verle B. Hughes, 73, of Lafayette, died unexpectedly at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center.
Mr. Hughes had worked in the maintenance department at Purdue Research Foundation before retiring in 1980.
Born October 14, 1914, in Chalmers, he had spent most of his life in Lafayette. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in forestry in 1938.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On December 18, 1937, he was married in Cicero, Illinois, to Lulu Markham, who survives along with a daughter Diana Hughes of Los Angeles, California; two sons, Gene Hughes of Dallas, Texas and Mel Hughes of West Lafayette.
Also surviving are four brothers, Kenneth, Perry and Gene Hughes, all of Chalmers, and a twin brother, Merle Hughes of Topeka, Kansas and two sisters, Vera Ryden of Indianapolis and Cilia Roberts of Muncie. He had 5 grand children.
Three brothers preceded him in death. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. today at Solar-Baker West Lafayette Funeral Home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday with the Rev. Dr. Gary Reif officiating. Burial will be in Chalmers Cemetery.
