Dale R. Richardson

December 27, 1915 - October 8, 1998
Dale R. Richardson, 82, Brookston, formerly of Monon, died Thursday, Oct. 8, at 2:50 p.m. at Lafayette Healthcare Center, Lafayette.

He was born Dec. 27, 1915, to Joseph H. and Minnie Bell Stephens Richardson, in Monon. He was married June 14, 1941, to Ethel Parthena Smith, in Monon, and she survives.

He had moved to Brookston from Monon in 1987.

He graduated from Monon High School in 1934.

He worked as a parts manager for Gutwein Motors for 17 years and was the Monon Postmaster for 18 years, retiring in 1980.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Brookston United Methodist Church.

He was the first World War II veteran to be admitted to the American Legion in Indiana and was a member of the American Legion Post 319 in Monon.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Charles Jerilynn Burgess of Indianapolis and Mrs. Francis Kay Franscoviak, Battle Ground; two sons, James Joseph, Bremen and Dale Ray II of Eugene, Oregon; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two stepgranddaughters.

Three sisters and a brother are deceased.

Funeral services were Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.

Burial was in the Bedford Cemetery, Monon.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Long Center for the Performing Arts.

Gertrude 'Gertie' Riddle

March 15, 1919 - April 6, 1991
Gertrude "Gertie" Fletcher Riddle, 72, Chalmers, died Saturday, April 6, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. She had been a patient since Jan. 9.

She was born March 15, 1919, to Tobert and Cora Watson Fletcher, in Burkesville, Ky. She was married Oct. 26, 1935, to Orlon Riddle, in Burkesville, Ky. He survives.

She and her husband moved to Otterbein from Kentucky and had lived in Chalmers since 1952.

She worked at the former RCA factory in Monticello, for 15 years and retired in 1981.

She was a member of the Brookston Church of Christ.

Survivors also include three sons, Jesse Riddle, Martinsville; James Harold Riddle, Lafayette and Gary Riddler, Chalmers; a daughter, Mrs. Willard (Shirley) Farmer, Chalmers; a brother, Junior Fletcher, Madison; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Smith, Hanover and Mrs. Bee Curtsinger, Fairfield, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Two brothers are deceased.

The funeral was Tuesday in Brookston Church of Christ with Bill Romans and Bill Miller officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of the service.

Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.

Louellen I. Tyner

December 24, 1914 to December 18, 1992
Louellen I. "Lou" Tyner, 77, Delphi, died Dec. 18, in St. Elizabeth Hospital medical Center, Lafayette.

She was born Dec. 24, 1914, in Jasper County, where she attended school. She was married Feb. 14, 1934, to Milton E. Tyner, in Hammond, and he survives.

They owned and operated the Monon House in Monon, from 1934 to 1942, and Southside Café in Monon, from 1948 to 1957. They moved in 1958, to Delphi, where they bought the former Welcome Inn Café and owned it until 1968. Also during that time, she owned the Tyner Shoe Store in Delphi for five years. She then worked as a saleslady at Smith Shoes in Market Square, Lafayette, in 1969. She retired in 1978.

Mrs. Tyner was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, a former worthy matron of Rose Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, now the Carroll Chapter. She also was active in a bridge club in Delphi.

Survivors include three sons; James M. Tyner, Lafayette; Robert D. Tyner, Rt.4, Delphi and Ronald Andrew Tyner, Northbrook, Ill.; a brother, William Myres, Hammond; and a sister, Mrs. Betty Maynard, Riverton, Utah; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The funeral was Monday at Horn Funeral Home, Delphi with Rev. Richard Pettys officiating.

Burial was in Masonic Cemetery.

Francis J. Altman

May 3, 1910 - December 16, 2002
Francis J. Altman, 92, formerly of Chalmers, a resident of Twin Lakes Village, Monticello, died Monday, December 16, 2002 at White County Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Anslem, N.D., on May 3, 1910, to Anton Stephen and Margaret Lucille Horan Altman and moved back to Reynolds, Indiana when he was 5 years old.

His family on the Horan and Altman side had lived in Indiana since 1849. His grandfather, John Horan, brought the first Catholic priest to White County for Mass in his home in Reynolds, near what is now St. Joseph Catholic Church. He married Beulah Evelyn Wann in South Bend on May 28, 1935. She died on May 25, 1997.

He was a farmer nearly all his life and drove a school bus for 32+ years. He served as a volunteer coach for West Point Township boy's basketball team for many years. He served on the Production Credit Board; served on the White County Fair Board; was a charter member of White County Soil and Water Conservation; was precinct committee person for the West Point Township for 54 years; delegate to the Democrat State Convention 14 times; member and former officer of Holy Name Society; charter member of the K of C at Monticello; and NFO member since 1962.

Survivors include sons; Francis Danton (Gusta) Altman and Jerry Dean (Kathleen) Altman, both of Monticello, Kenneth Eugene (Mary Helen) Altman and Charles Raymond (Elaine) Altman, both of Chalmers. William Joseph (Lois) Altman of Muncie and Phillip Jack Altman of Chalmers; a daughter Virginia "Ginger" Altman Erickson of West Lafayette; a brother, Wilmer (Mary Alice) Altman of Ambia; sister Antonetta Higgins of Los Angeles; 16 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. He and Beulah loved them all.

Two sisters are deceased.

A Rosary service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston followed by visitation from 4:30 - 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Reynolds, with Monsignor Robert Sell officiating.

Burial will be in Chalmers Community Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Beulah Altman Scholarship Memorial Fund for able Frontier students pursuing a teaching vocation.

Michael L. Anderson

8/14/44-2/18/01
Michael L. Anderson, 56, of Monticello died Sunday, February 18, 2001, at St Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

He was born in Chicago IL on August 14, 1944 to Robert H. and Iva M. Schackart Anderson. He married Rosemary J. Stelter in Chicago Heights, IL. on November 30, 1958. She survives.

He was a graduate of Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights, IL. He earned his BS in education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. He then earned his MA from Purdue University.

He lived in Monticello since 1985, coming from Chicago Heights.

He began his teaching career in 1972 and was guidance counselor at North White High School from 1985 - 2000.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Monticello.

He touched and inspired many young lives while at North White.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Jason Michael (Katie) Anderson of Monticello; a daughter Sarah M. Anderson of Chicago Heights; a brother Stephen A. (Linda) Anderson of Saulk Village, IL, sister Susan (Michael) Bock of Steger, IL and a grandson, Jeremiah J. Anderson of Lafayette.

A daughter, Maureen L. Anderson is deceased.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello. Funeral services will be at noon CST Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chicago Heights, IL.

Burial will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior.

Robin R. Banerjea

July 14, 1962 - February 21, 2003
Robin R. Banerjea, 40, of Monticello died at his residence on Friday, February 21, 2003.

He was born in Northern Indiana on July 14, 1962, the son of Tara N. and Marion R. Becker Banerjea.

He graduated from High School in Warren, Michigan. He received his college degree in Industrial Management. He was also on the Dean's List. Robin was in computer software sales. He was also a mechanical inventor.

He was a very loving person, who loved nature and the outdoors. He loved his family and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello on Friday, February 28.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Roberts officiating.

Burial will be in the Hughes Cemetery.

Wilbur Lynn Banes

August 29, 1920 - November 18, 2002
Wilbur Lynn Banes, 82,of Western Grove, Ark., died Monday, November 18, 2002, in North Arkansas Regional Medical Center.

He was born August 29, 1920, in Monon, Indiana, the son of Isaac Lewis Banes and Emma Jane Kesler Banes. He lived in Monon until he moved to Western Grove in 1984.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Monon, and was employed at RCA in Monticello, Indiana, for 25 years. He was a World War II Army Medical Corp veteran, serving from 1942 to 1946 at the 228th Station Hospital at Sherbourne, England. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Wilma Pearl Banes, Etta E. Houghton, and Edna P. Shultz: two brothers, Lewis Raymond Banes, Donald Rex Banes and two half-brothers, Bert A. Banes and Ralph E. Banes.

He is survived by his wife, four stepchildren of Arkansas; a son David Banes of Monon; two daughters, Deborah Biss Keller, West Lafayette and Trudi Fender, Knightstown; two sisters, Estelle P. Hurlburt, Monticello, Betty Lucille Nightingale, Medaryville; and a brother William Thomas Banes, Lathyette; also five grandsons, three granddaughters; one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter. Many nieces, nephews and step grandchildren survive him.

Graveside services were conducted in Sand Hill Cemetery in Arkansas.

Frances Barnes

October 5, 1912 - February 9, 2003
Frances Bell Barnes, 90, of Frankfort, and formerly of Monticello died Sunday, February 9, 2003, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Frankfort.

She was born in Burke, N.D., on October 5, 1912, to Arthur and Etha Warrick Jay. She married Charles Barnes on March 11, 1934. He died June 19, 1995.

She had lived in White County since she was two years old, and was a 1930 graduate of Monticello High School.

She and her husband were farmers in White County, and she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Guernsey Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include sons; James E. (Kathy) Maxedon of Montreal, Canada and Joel T. (Ann) Barnes of Frankfort; sisters Virginia Overfield of Granville, Ohio, and Alice Hare of Monticello; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren

A brother Russell Jay, and a sister Clara Watterson, are deceased.

Funeral services were Saturday, February 15, 2003, at Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello with Pastor Dana Hood officiating.

Burial was in Pike Creek Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Guernsey Church of the Brethren or Frankfort Christian Church.
