Donald T. Bushong, Sr.

May 5, 1923 - May 20, 2002
Donald T. Bushong, Sr., 79, of Brookston died May 20, 2002 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

He was born, May 5, 1923 in Thorntown, Indiana and had lived in Brookston for the past 35 years.

He was the son of George and Bertha Bushong. He graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1943. His marriage was to Alpha Stinnett on August 22, 1945 in Newport, Ark, and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Donald (Dawn) Bushong, Jr. Francesville and Roger (Kerry) Bushong, Lafayette. He had six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was an avid bowler in earlier years and enjoyed playing cards. He served in the US Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired from Fairfield Mfg. in Lafayette May 31, 1985 after 33 years. He was a member and Deacon at the Brookston Church of Christ and a life member of Chalmers American Legion Post #268.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Rev. Shannon Toye officiating.

Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.

Elvina E. Byroad

February 26, 1920 - December 10, 2002
Elvina E. Byroad, 82, Monon, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, at White County Memorial Hospital. She had been ill for two years.

She was born Feb. 26, 1920, in Francesville, to Clarence and Amy Kraut Miller. She was married Feb. 28, 1938, to Alfred Earl Byroad Sr. and he died April 21, 1985.

She lived in this community for most of her life. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Monon United Methodist Church, the Monon Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxiliary and was active with the White County Senior Citizens.

Surviving are a son, Alfred Byroad of Bumpus Mill, Tenn.; daughters, Mary Bretzinger of Valparaiso and Darlene Tolbert of Cheyenne, Wyoming; four sisters, Rose Mansfield of Lake City, N.Y.; Marlene Zelaski of New Carlisle; Arlene Tarr and Dorothy Kraut, both of LaPorte; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A son, daughter, three brothers, sister and three grandchildren are deceased.

Services were held Thursday, December 12, at the Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon, with Pastor Matthew Pickut officiating.

Burial was in Bedford Cemetery, Monon.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society of the White County Council on Aging.

Erma N. Cabot

April 27, 1917 - December 18, 2002
Erma N. Cabot, 90, of West Lafayette, died Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at Home Hospital, Lafayette.

She was born April 27, 1917 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of John and Etta Bartlett, Neville. She married dance orchestra leader Chuck Cabot in 1945 and he survives.

She worked as an assistant director of El Paso Country Club, El Paso, Texas for many years. She had lived in West Lafayette since 1994.

Surviving besides her husband is a son, Charles (Connie) Cascales, West Lafayette and a daughter Judy (Gonzalo) Lopez, San Diego, California; grandchildren, Virginia de la Riva, Leslie Cascales, Alberto Lopez and Nicole Cascales and great grandchildren; Sebastian Malewicz, Raphael Malewicz and Eva Cascales.

A graveside service for family and friends was Saturday, December 21, 2002 at Hughes Cemetery, near Buffalo, with Gordon Denton officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home was in charge of services.

Memorials may be made to White County Historical Society.

Adam L. Cadwallader

July 14, 1980 - July 13, 1999
Adam Leon Cadwallader, 18, of Monon, died Tuesday, July 13, in an auto accident.

He was born July 14, 1980, to Donald Bradford and Delores Jean Kidd Cadwallader, in Lafayette. He was a 1999 graduate of North White High School and had lived County area for 15 years. He was a student.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Delores Jean Kidd Gordon and James R, Gordon Jr. of Monon; his father and stepmother, Donald Bradford Cadwallader and Cheryl Cadwallader of Lafayette; his paternal grandparents, Phyllis Cadwallader of Monticello and Donald Cadwallader of Michigan City; his maternal grandparents, Andy and Georgia Kidd, Monticello, Ky.; a brother, Aaron Bradley Cadwallader of Montmorenci; a half brother, Donald Cadwallader of Lafayette and two stepbrothers, Josh Lank and Tim Lank, both of Lafayette.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, at 10.30 a.m. in Kellogg Funeral Home, with the Rev. Pat O'Brien officiating. Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, Lafayette.

William Robert Carlisle

Feb. 2, 1942 - Dec. 19,1997
William Robert "Bob" Carlisle, 73, Chalmers, died Friday, Dec. 19, in Home Hospital, Lafayette. He had been in ill health for the past two years.

He was born Feb. 2, 1942, to Clarence and Iva Robbins Carlisle, in West Point Township, White County. He was married Oct. 1, 1971, to Norma Kaiser Hurst, in Chalmers, and she survives. He graduated from Chalmers High School in 1942. He retired in 1986, from the US. Government as a Warehouse Examiner for USDA. He served in the US. Army, during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in New Guinea-South Philippines (Liberation) and Luzon as a Staff Sergeant in Co.M 154th Infantry. He was a member of the Chalmers Community Church and Chalmers American Legion Post No. 268. He was a life member of VFW 9383 at Delphi. He was a member of 40 and 8, White County, Monticello and AM VETS.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters. Joyce Ann Carlisle, Indianapolis; and Carolyn Jane Strantz, Mesa, Arizona, a son, William Robert Carlisle, Lafayette, three step-daughters; Beverly Robinson, Lafayette; Marie Ward, Bloomington, Ill.; Cheryl VanVoorst, Reynolds; a step-son, Jerry Hurst, Brookston; three sisters, Helen Shuman, Monticello; Ruth Howell, West Chester, Pa.; and Virginia Drake, Chalmers; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and seven step grandchildren. Two brothers are deceased.

The funeral services were Monday, Dec. 22, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Pastor Bill Henderson officiating. Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery with full military Rites at the cemetery by the Chalmers American Legion Post No. 268.

Memorials may be given to the Chalmers Community Church or the Tippecanoe Lost Cord Club, 50 Kenosha Court, Lafayette, IN. 47905-3142.

Pete J. Carr

April 29, 1929 - July 31, 2002
Pete J. Carr, 73, of Monon, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at his residence.

He was born on April 29, 1929, in Logansport, to Leon J. and Helen Higbee Carr.

He was a 1947 graduate of Logansport High School, and received his bachelor's degree and masters of fine arts degree at Indiana University. He was also concertmaster at Indiana University for four years.

He was a retired Ball State University professor, who lived in the Monon area for the past 20 years moving from Muncie.

He was a member of the Baptist Temple in Logansport.

Surviving are a daughter, Melodie J. Carr Zeiler, of Muncie; sons Chris J. Carr and Erik J. Carr, both of Yorktown, and Brian J. Carr of Muncie; and 10 grandchildren.

One brother and two sisters are deceased.

Funeral service was August 2, 2002 at Kellogg Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Sikler, officiating.

Burial was in Bedford Cemetery.

Dorothy Dean R. Charles

May 17, 1906 - Feb. 3, 1987
Mrs. Dean Harden Charles, 81, Brookston, died at 9:25 p.m. Monday in Heritage Healthcare in West Lafayette. She had been a patient there since Aug. 1982 and had been in failing health the past several years.

Mrs. Charles was retired from Indiana Veterans Home where she worked in the laundry.

She was a native of Indiana and born May 17, 1906. She was first married to Eugene Joseph Turcotte, who died in June 1953. She married Morrison Dale Charles, Oct 22, 1960 and he died Dec 13, 1989.

Mrs. Charles was a member of Brookston United Methodist church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Helen Russell of Brookston; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Tom (Ardys) Reed of Peru; a brother, Casey Rardon of Fort Myers, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Aretta Cox and Mrs. Leona McKee, both of Brookston and Mrs. Louise Weston of Goshen.

Three grandchildren; Debra Whitaker Dolson, Brookston, Denvil Whitaker, Lakeland, FL, Dwight Dean Whitaker, Brookston. Two great grandchildren; Nathaniel Whitaker, Lakeland, FL and Amanda Whitaker, Brookston. Four stepgrandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren survive. Five brothers, and two sisters preceded in death.

Services were at 2 p.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Gene Ansell officiating. Interment was In IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Wayne H. Christopher

May 22, 1922 - February 18, 2003
Wayne Harold Christopher, 80, of Brookston died Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at his residence. He had been ill for the past month.

He was born May 22, 1922, in the same Brookston home he died in, to Harry and Effie Richardson Christopher. He married Elizabeth Jansen on September 20, 1958, in Lafayette. She survives.

He was a 1940 graduate of Brookston High School.

He was a farmer all of his life. He enjoyed family, fishing and yard work.

Surviving with his wife are sons, Steve (Shelley) Christopher and Phil (Mindy) Christopher, both of Brookston; daughter Lorie (Mike) Heath of Battle Ground, and eight grandchildren.

A daughter, Lisa Ann Christopher (1990), two brothers and four sisters are deceased.

Funeral services were Sunday, February 23, at Brookston Federated Church with Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds officiating.

Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brookston.

Memorials may be made to the Brookston Federated Church.

Freeman W. Clark

December 9, 1919 - December 25, 2001
Freeman W. Clark, 82, of Battle Ground, died Tuesday. December 25, 2001 at St. Mary Healthcare Center, Lafayette. He had been ill for six months and a resident at the center for one month.

He was born in Tippecanoe County on December 9, 1919, to Floyd C. and Minnie J. Curtis Clark. He married Virginia Elizabeth Kaufman in Battle Ground on September 22, 1945. She survives.

He was a 1939 graduate of Battle Ground High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from October 16, 1941 through June 29, 1945. He was a staff sergeant with Company C, 168th Infantry. He served in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia and Italy. He received a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.

He was employed at the Brown Rubber Company in Lafayette for 21 yearn. He then worked for the Tippecanoe School Corporation for 24 years, retiring in 1984.

He was a member of the Battle Ground United Methodist Church.

Surviving with his wife are daughters Marilyn (David) Titus, Battle Ground and Nancy L. Ludington (and fiancé Deane Duncan) of Indianapolis and two grandchildren, Scott and Sarah.

Two sisters, Fay Clark and Fern Rooze are deceased.

Funeral services were Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Pastor Tammy Mills officiating.

Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.

Memorials may be made to the Battle Ground United Methodist Church.
