Mary A. Dykhuizen
September 29, 1908 - October 7, 1994
Mary A. McDowell Dykhuizen, 86, died Friday, Oct. 7, in Gentle Care Nursing Home where she had been a resident since 1987. She was born Sept. 29, 1908 in Attica. She married Edward C. "Dyke" Dykhuizen on March 14, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio. he died Jan. 11, 1992. He was an agriculture teacher for 33 years at Brookston and Frontier High Schools. Mrs. Dykhuizen lived in Brookston from 1937 to 1987. She was a 1927 graduate of Jefferson High School and graduated from the Lafayette Conservatory of Music. She worked for Lafayette Painting and Decorating. She was the Brookston librarian for 20 years retiring in July of 1967. She was a member of the Brookston Federated Church, and sang in the choir for 20 years. She was a former member of the Mother's Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Schilling of Frankfort and Mrs. Rex (Margene) Lewis of Lafayette; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A brother is deceased.
A private family service was held Monday, Oct. 10 in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Chapel. Intombment was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to the Brookston-Prairie Township Public Library or the Brookston Federated Church.
Joan Belle Eberle
October 20, 1918 - September 10, 2000
Joan Belle (Comer) Eberle, 81, Brookston, died Sunday, Sept. 10, in St Elizabeth Medical Center. She was born Oct. 20, 1918, to John E. and Golda M. Gibson Comer, in Burnettsville. She was married March 23, 1940, to Oliver E. Eberle in West Lafayette, and he died Dec. 27, 1996. She graduated from Round Grove High School in 1936 and a 1939 graduate of Home Hospital School of Nursing. She was a homemaker and worked at Home Hospital for two years. She was a member of the former Pine Grove Methodist Church and a member of the Round Grove Home Demonstration club. She had lived all her life in Round Grove Township. She enjoyed playing cards and playing games with her grandchildren. She followed the migration of the sandhill cranes at Pulaski County.
She is survived by daughters, Janet Eberle, Indianapolis and Margaret Foutch, Chalmers; son, Lynn (Karen) Eberle of Fowler; brother , J. Robert Comer, of Mulberry; sister, Geneve Ann Mitchell of Bowling Green, KY.; grandsons, Brian (Deanna) Foutch and Craig (Dana) Foutch; great grandson, Jacob Foutch; great granddaughters. Robin and Olivia Foutch; and stepgreat grandchildren, Jon and Brently Watson.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Pastor James Childress officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
Oliver E. Eberle
November 26, 1916 - December 27, 1996
Oliver E. Eberle, 81, Brookston, died Friday, Dec. 27, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. He had been in failing health since November. He was born Nov. 26, 1916, to Alexander and Johannah Loges Eberle, in Round Grove Township, White Coimty. He was married March 23, 1940 to Joan Comer, in West Lafayette, and she survives. He graduated in 1933, the first graduating class of Round Grove Nigh School. He was a farmer and served on various White County 4-H Fair committees. He also served on several A.S.C, committees and on the Wolcott School Board. Mr. Eberle enjoyed pitching horseshoes and playing cards.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Margaret Foutch, Chalmers and Janet Eberle, Indianapolis; a son, Lynn of Fowler; two grandsons, Brian and Craig Foutch and two great grandchildren, Jacob and Robin Foutch. Two brothers and a sister are deceased.
The funeral was Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Prowse officiating. Burial was in Brookston at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
Virginia White Eide
August 9, 1920 - August 1, 2002
Virginia White Eide, 81, of Monticello died Thursday, August 1, 2002, at her residence.
She was born in Anderson on August 9, 1920, to Myrtle White and Clay DeHority. She married Charles J. Eide on August 1, 1946. He died October 10, 1986.
She moved to Monticello in 1983 from Francesville. She worked at the Busch Farm Services m Francesville as a bookkeeper.
She loved to work in her yard, oil paint and watch Chicago Cubs baseball and golf on television.
Survivors include four daughters, Virginia Carol Eide, of Park Forest, IL, Barbara Bonnell, of Rensselaer, Janet (Ron) Wenrick of Monon, and Sara (Randy) Wenrick of Monon; two sons, Sherrill Eide, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Charles J. Eide, Jr. of Monon; two brothers, Joseph (Linda) DeHority, of Indianapolis and Elwood (Myrtle) DeHority, of Howe.
Sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were August 5th at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home, Francesville. Burial was in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Monticello.
Memorials may be made to Riley Children's Hospital.
Lloyd E. Ellis
October 19, 1917 - April 2, 2000
Lloyd E. Ellis, 82, of Waukesha. Wisconsin, the brother of a Monon resident, died Sunday, April 2, at Woodland Healthcare Center in Brookfield, Wisconsin. He was born Oct. 19, 1917, to Thomas and Nances Jane Spraggins Ellis, in Kiefer, Oklahoma. He was married Feb. 13, 1949, to Doris Ellis, in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He graduated from Mooseheart Academy, in 1935. He worked in the sheet metal trade all his life and lived most of his life in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was a member of the Mooseheart Alumni Association.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas (Carol) Ellis and Jerome Ellis, both of Waukesha, Wisconsin; daughters, Christine (Tom) Wierich of Fulton, Mo., and Jeanee Littleton of Milwaukee, Wis. ; brother, William (Lorraine) Ellis of Westfield, Wis.; and sisters Reva (Ebert) White of North Judson and Evelyn (Ray) Cooley of Monon. A son is deceased.
Funeral services were Saturday in Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. Steve Birch officiating. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Francesville. Memorials may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Mary Ellen England
May 27, 1930 - June 30, 2002
Mary Ellen England, 72, of Wolcott, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at her residence. She had been ill for three years, but her death was unexpected.
She was born on May 27, 1930 in Newton County, the daughter of Richard and Lucy Blake Bowman. She married C. Junior England on November 4, 1946. He died in 1993.
She was a Remington High School graduate.
She was retired from Indiana Ribbon in Wolcott and a former medical technician with Wolcott Ambulance Service.
She was a former Republican precinct committeeman, and a former member of the election board. She was a former member of the Wolcott Women's Club.
She was a member of Wolcott Christian Church.
Surviving are daughters, June (Fred) Sheets of Wolcott, Connie (Glen) Franks of Lafayette and Becky (Chuck) Smith of Macy; sisters Arvella Brunton of Wolcott, Julia Burrell of West Lafayette, Lucy Anderson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Helen Shehan of Tempe, Ariz., and Rachel Brewer of Remington; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services were today at Foster Funeral Home, Wolcott.
Burial was in Meadow Lake Cemetery, Wolcott.
Margery Ruth Epler
December 22, 1928 - November 25, 2000
Margery Ruth Epler, 71, Rensselaer died Saturday, November 25, 2000, at Home Hospital in Lafayette. She was born on December 22, 1928 in Parr, to Frank and Leda Lee Hamer. She married Wayne Epler on Sept. 17, 1949, in Rensselaer. He survives. She was a lifetime resident of Jasper County. She was a 1946 graduate of Rensselaer High School. She worked for Rensselaer Central Schools as a bus driver for nine years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer.
She is survived by her husband, a son, Daniel (Carol) Epler of Monticello; a daughter, Teresa (Roger) Epler-Brooks of Lafayette: sisters Ethelyn Williams of Monon and Donna (Robert) Lomax of Rensselaer; a brother Robert (Mary Ann) Hamer of Rensselaer; and grandchildren, Chad and Jori Epler and Lindsey Brooks. A daughter, Debra "Debbie" Epler, four brothers and two sisters are deceased.
Funeral service was today at Jackson Funeral Chapel, Rensselaer, with the Rev. Greg Crowder officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Rensselaer. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Bob E. Farley
January 30, 1931 - March 9, 2003
Bob E. Farley, 72, of Brookston, died Sunday. March 9, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. He had been ill for the past six months.
He was born on January 30, 1931, in Monon, to Troy and Edna Emberton Farley. He married Catherine O'Connor on June 22, 1963, in El Paso, Illinois. She survives.
He was a 1950 graduate of Monticello High School. He was a 1955 Purdue University graduate, and earned his master's degree in education from St. Francis College.
He served in Korea in the U.S. Army.
He had lived in Brookston since 1973 after moving from Monon.
He was a schoolteacher who taught agriculture and science at North White Junior-Senior High School for 30 years, and retired in 1987. Prior to that, he taught in Royal Center and Roanoke.
He was a member of Sitka Baptist Church.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter Susan (Steve) Morris of Westerville, Ohio and grandsons, Phillip and Connor Morris.
Funeral Services were Tuesday, March 11, at Hartzler Funeral Home.
Burial was at Chalmers Community Cemetery.
Bertha Anna Fausset
April 30, 1918 - November 27, 2002
Bertha Ann Fausset, 84, of Brookston died Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare. She had resided at the Center since August.
She was born at Bloomington on April 30, 1918, to Alfred P. and Ida Sherfey Blewett. She married Charles Fausset at Bloomington on August 30, 1946. He survives.
She was a 1936 graduate of Bloomington High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Brookston American Legion Auxiliary and Order of Eastern Star of Bloomington.
Surviving with her husband are sons, Richard (Nancy) Rogers of Anderson, S.C., Rex (LaDonna) Fausset of Monticello and Barry Fausset of Goodland; a sister, Margaret Blewett of Washington; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, a sister and two daughters are deceased.
Private services are planned. Inurnment will be at a later date at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brookston.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Hartzler Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Genevieve C. (Jean) Federer
January 24, 1924 - March 15 2001
Genevieve C. (Jean) Federer, 77, of Francesville, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 in Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.
She was born January 24, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Andrew and Karolina Miskowiec Hanus.
She married Carl Joseph Federer on June 9, 1945 in Francesvilie. He died June 29, 1996.
She had lived in Francesville for the past 61 years, moving there from Chicago.
She was a member of St. Francis Solano Catholic Church in Francesville. She also belonged to the St. Francis Study club and Catholic Women's Organization.
Three daughters; Catherine A. Raab, Knox, Ind., Barbara (Charles) Knarr of Winamac and Joann Gardner, Brookston, Ind.; one son, Carl A. (Rusty) Federer of Francesville, and 10 grandchildren survive her.
Also surviving are three sisters; Mary Beneski, Lottie Skowron and Eleanor Putzier, all of Chicago, Ill, and one brother Chester Hanus of Winamac, Ind.
Her husband and one brother Casey Hanus preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Monday at St. Francis Solano Catholic Church with Father Paul R. White officiating. Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home was in charge of the services. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.
