John A. Hallam

March 11, 1931 - December 7, 1994
John A. Hallam, 63, formerly of Delphi, died Wednesday. Dec. 7, at his Pensacola, FL residence.

He was born in Yeoman on March 11, 1931 to Lowell Edward and Gladys Shaffer Hallam. He married Betty Jo Hyman Richardson on April 25, 1970 in Logansport and she survives.

He was a graduate of Brookston High School and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a foreman and electrician with the Brown & Root Co., based in Houston, TX for 15 years before retiring due to poor health. He was previously employed by the Rensselaer Electric Co. for 20 years.

He was a member of the Delphi Christian Church.

Surviving with his wife are five daughters, Mrs. Mike (Kathy) Scamahorn of DeMotte, Mrs. Greg (Carol Ann) Lisak of Raceland, LA, Mrs. David (Susan) Albert of Lapaz, Mrs. Terry (Karen) Hicks of Oklahoma City, and Marsha of Pensacola; two sons, Richard Richardson of Lafayette and Bill Richardson of Woreland, WY; three brothers, Richard "Dick" of Kokomo, Lowell "Buck" and Jack, both of Logansport; three sisters, Eileen Shoff and Doris Medley, both of Flora, and Marjorie Maxwell of Brookston; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and one sister are deceased.

Funeral services were held Monday in Horn Funeral Home Delphi, Pastor Paul Millikin officiated.

Burial was in Yeoman Cemetery.

Freeda Sparks [Hall]

July 30, 1909 - June 17, 2001
Freeda Sparks Hall, 91, Lafayette, a former Brookston resident, died Sunday, June 17, at 11 p.m. in Rosewalk Village, where she had resided since September 1999.

She was born July 30, 1909, to William Henry and Emma Catherine Birch Sparks in Greene County. She was married May 17, 1927 to Van C. Hall at Harrodsburg. He died in 1979.

She attended Solsberry schools.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Bloomington, Lafayette, Brookston (1979) and moved to Rosewalk Village in September 1999.

She was a member of Greene County United Methodist Chapel of Solsberry and attended the Brookston United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Willing Workers.

She was a life member of the Brookston American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Lafayette Old Rails.

She is survived by a son, William L. Hall of Green Cove Springs, Florida; three daughters. Mary Lou (Jack) Jones of Greenwood, Nancy (Hurlie) Stinnett of Brookston and Donna (Joe) Fish of Battle Ground; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Hall of Battle Ground; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

A son, Robert F. Hall; two grandsons, Roger Dale Hall and James L. Jones; two brothers; and seven sisters are deceased.

Services will be Friday at the Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Jan Dimick officiating.

Interment will be in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum, West Lafayette.

Robert E. Hall

April 15, 1928 - July 12, 1997
Robert E. Hall, 69, of Battle Ground, died Saturday, July 12, at 8:55 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Lafayette. He had been in ill health several years and hospitalized four days.

He was born April 15, 1928, to Van C. and Freeda Sparks Hall, in Bloomington. He was married Dec. 23, 1966, to Beverly Rogers in Lafayette, and she survives.

He attended Smithville High School and graduated from Lafayette Business College.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

He had resided in Tippecanoe County since 1952 and in Battle Ground since 1963, coming from Bloomington.

He retired in 1974 from the Monon Railroad as Director of Purchasing and Stores. He worked for the railroad for 30 years and was first employed as crew caller in Bloomington.

He was a member of the Battle Ground United Methodist Church. Also of the American Legion Post 11; VFW Post 1154, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 347; Fraternal Order of Police, Arman Lodge 49; Lafayette Moose and Old Rails.

Survivors are his wife, five daughters; Mrs. Tim (Laura) Davenport, Lafayette; Lora Burton, West Lafayette; Denise Miller, Monon; Mrs. Jan (Heather) German, Montmorenci and. Mrs. Don (Karen) Moyars, Attica; three sons, the Rev. Douglas McCord, Blairsville, Pa.; Robert "Keith" Hall, West Lafayette and Kerry L. Hall, Boca Raton, Florida; his mother, Freeda Hall, Brookston; a brother, William L. of Green Cove Springs, Florida; three sisters, Mrs. Jack (Mary) Jones, Greenwood; Mrs. Hurlie (Nancy) Stinnett, Brookston and Mrs. "Joe" (Donna) Fish of Battle Ground; 15 grandchildren and a great granddaughter.

His father and a son are deceased.

Funeral services were conducted today at 1 p.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas McCord officiating.

Interment was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum, West Lafayette.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.

Thomas E. Hall

[1966] - January 25, 2001
Thomas E. Hall, 35, Monon died Thursday. January 25, 2001.

Surviving are his wife Dawn (Jacobs) Hall; his children, Nichole, Samantha and Kimberly; his mother Carol Hall; his father Ed (Eva) Hall; a sister Sharon (Brad) Abbott, his step-brother, Steven Coyne; his paternal grandmother, Pearl Hall; his mother-in-law, Nadine (late Jerry) Jacobs; uncles John (Noel) Hall and Bill Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A brother Frank, is deceased.

The funeral was Monday at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home in Lansing, IL.

Dorothy M. Halsema

September 22, 1918 - February 27, 1993
Dorothy M. Ruwe Halsema, 74, R.2, Brookston, died Saturday, Feb. 27, at her home.

She was born Sept. 22, 1918, to Walter and Ellen Saathoff Ruwe, in Lafayette. She was married Feb. 23, 1943, to Lucius Halsema, in Chalmers, and he died Jan. 10, 1977.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Ed Halsema, R.2, Brookston, and a special friend, William 'Bill' Tilley of Brookston.

The funeral was Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Lori Blinn Gibson officiating.

Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Francis "Pat" Halstead

August 21, 1915 - August 15, 2002
Francis "Pat" Halstead, 86, of Brookston died August 15, 2002 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

He was born at Brookston on August 21, 1915, to William C. and Cora Griest Halstead. He married Yvonne Oilar at Lafayette on August 10, 1940. She survives.

He was a 1933 graduate of Brookston High School and a 1937 graduate of Purdue University where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired as a Lt. Commander after 24 years in the Reserves.

He was an International Harvester dealer and former co-owner of Halstead Implement for 30 years, retiring in 1969.

He was a member of Brookston United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Brookston American Legion Post 251, a Past Master of Brookston Masonic Lodge and member of Monticello Libanus Lodge 592, F&AM, Shrine Club and Merou Grotto. He was a former Boy Scout leader and member of the Brookston Optimist club.

Other survivors include a son Bill (Martha) Halstead of Allentown, Pa; daughters, Lois (John) Harner of Bloomington and Lisa Werline (Mick Yoder) of Brookston; a brother, Clyde (Evelyn) Halstead of Tucson, Ariz; three grandchildren and one great grandson.

Two brothers, a sister and a grandson are deceased.

Funeral services were at the Hartzler Funeral Home on Sunday with Rev. Jan Dimick and Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds officiating.

Burial with military services was at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brookston.

Memorials may be made to the Brookston United Methodist Church or the Brookston-Prairie Township Public Library.

Lena M. Hamilton

April 8, 1888 - October 7, 1987
Lena May Rhode Hamilton, 99, formerly of Brookston, died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, in Davis Manor in West Lafayette.

Born April 8, 1888, in Badger Grove, Prairie Township in White County, she graduated from Brookston Academy in 1907 and Valparaiso University in 1910 and was a school teacher.

She taught at Brookston Academy for seven years, Buck Creek for two years and Round Grove Township in White County for 11 years, retiring in 1957.

She was a member of Badger Grove Community Baptist Church and the Merry Workers Class and Missionary Society, both of the church. She received her 50-year pin from Brookston Order of Eastern Star in 1903 and was a member of the Art Club in Brookston.

There are no immediate survivors.

Surviving are a nephew, Ernest Morehouse of West Lafayette; three nieces, Mrs. Martha Nolan of Park Ridge, Ill., Mrs. Janet Adams of Ashtabula, Ohio, Mrs. Sally Gougler of Wlnrietka, Ill. A brother, 2 sisters preceded in death.

Service was at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, at 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Infant Nicole Hamilton

December 24, 1989 - February 20, 1999
Infant Nicole Brianne Hamilton, 1 month and 28 days old, 3013 Darby Lane, Lafayette, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, in her home. She was born Dec. 24,1989, to Edward P. and Michelle Weston Hamilton, in Lafayette. They survive.

Also surviving are a brother, Cody, age 2, and grandparents Mr. arid Mrs. Larry Weston, Brookston and Mrs. Pauline Hamilton, Lafayette; and great-grandparents Mr. and Mrs. James Young, Brookson.

Gravesite service is today at 2 p.m. in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston, with the Rev. Gene Ansell officiating.

Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of arrangements.
