Virginia E. Hand

August 26, 1940 - August 31, 1997
Virginia E. "Ginny" Little Hand, 57, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, Aug. 31, at her home, West Lafayette.

She was born Aug. 26, 1940, in Arkansas and had lived in West Lafayette, for the last 20 years and the Lafayette area since 1960. She graduated from Tipton High School.

She was an analyst with FFR Cooperative at Battle Ground, for the past two years. She was a former secretary at Purdue and for Joe Livesay.

Surviving are her husband, James Hand; a daughter, Leslie Hand, Tampa, Florida; two sons, Matt Hand, Brookston and Howie Haney at home; and her mother Vadie Little, Tipton.

Also two grandchildren, Chris and Amy Hand survive.

No service. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Hippensteel funeral directors were in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to Wabash Center.

Margie Vienta Hann

October 11, 1901 - January 12, 2000
Margie Vienta Hann, 98, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Monticello Healthcare Center.

She was born Oct. 11, 1901, to James and Eva Williams Spencer, in Wolcott. She was married in 1925, to John Hann, in Crown Point and he died April 29, 1969.

She graduated in 1918, from Monon High School and was a teacher for several White County schools and was a homemaker.

She moved to Monon from Lowell in 1970.

She attended Monon First Baptist Church and was a former member of the Eastern Star in Gary.

She is survived by daughters, Gloria Eichelberg, Valparaiso and Margie Kay Britton of Phoenix, sisters, Vernice Carlson, Monticello; Vera Wilson, Mcnon and Opal Shull, Kewanna; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Two stepchildren, four brothers and three sisters are deceased.

Funeral service will be Saturday, 1 p.m. in Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. Steve Birch officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home in Monon.

Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church.

Ruby M. Hann

December 23, 1912 - August 2, 1998
Ruby M. Hann, 85, Monon, died Sunday, August 2, at 1:10 p.m. in the Monticello Healthcare Center, where she had resided since 1993. She had been in poor health for five years.

She was born Dec. 23, 1912 to Walter and Florence Nightengale Whitlow, in Somerset, Ky. She was married in 1937 to Bufford C. Hann in Attica, and he died August 1, 1969.

She had lived in Phoenix, Arizona, from 1943-1971, before moving to Monon.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Monon Community Church.

She also was a member of the Town and Country Extension Homemaker Club of Monon.

She is survived by four brothers, Glenn Whitlow, South Bend; Leonard Whitlow and Donald Whitlow, both of Monon and Kenny Whitlow, Indianapolis; and two sisters, Verna Connelley, Valparaiso and Mary Stephens, Los Angeles.

A daughter is deceased.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. Donald Newman officiating.

Burial was in Roseland Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Monon Community Church.

Richard Grant Hansell

July 18, 1926 - March 24, 1994
Richard Grant Hansell, 67, of Honolulu and formerly of Chalmers, died Thursday night, March 24, in Queen Medical Center, Honolulu, following an illness of six weeks.

He was born July 18, 1926 in Chalmers to Clyde and Audrey Piper Hansell. He married Regina Minnicus in Reynolds on May 4, 1946, and she survives.

He was a World War II veteran of the Navy. He had lived in Chalmers all of his life. He had been employed at Ralston Purina in Lafayette for 25 years.

He was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 347 in Lafayette and American Legion Post No. 268 at Chalmers.

Surviving with his wife are four sons, David Lawrence and Ronald S., both of Indianapolis, Dennis R. of Spring, Texas, and Mark P. of Tacoma, Washington; one sister, Marilyn Shenk of Monticello and one sister-in-law, Noreen Hansell of Monticello.

One brother, Robert. is deceased.

A private funeral service was held in Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello.

Burial was in IOOF Riverview Cemetery.

Bland J. Hardacre

December 22, 1901 - April 3, 1990
Bland Joseph Hardacre, 88, a former resident of Brookston, died April 3, in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Lafayette.

He was born Dec. 22, 1901, at Ash Grove in Tippecanoe County. He was a former resident of Detroit, Michigan.

He was married Nov. 17, 1926, to Marjorie Alice Fisher, in Detroit. She survives. They had lived m Brookston, from 1972 until 1987, then they moved to St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi.

Mr. Hardacre and his wife owned and operated the Hardacre Cleaning, Tailoring and Dry Cleaning Co. in Detroit for 36 years.

Mr. Hardacre served in the Green Thumb program for the town of Brookston, after moving here.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Reynolds. He was past president of the Frontier Senior Citizens and a member of the Twin Lakes Senior Citizens.

Services were Saturday, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reynolds with Father Robert Fosselman officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of the services.

Marjorie Alice Hardacre

September 12, 1903 - April 3, 1990
Marjorie Alice Hardacre, 89, formerly of Brookston, died Monday, in St. Elizabeth Hospital Healthcare Center, Delphi, where she had been a resident since September 1987.

She was born Sept. 12, 1903, to Andrew Jacob and Alice Ann Labadi Fisher, in Detroit, Michigan. She was married Nov. 17, 1926, to Bland Joseph Hardacre in Detroit and he died April 3, 1990.

She moved from Detroit to Brookston in 1972. She and her husband owned and operated Hardacre Cleaning, Tailor and Dry Cleaning Service in Detroit for 36 years.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reynolds, the Altar and Rosary Society of the church and the Prairie Home Demonstration Club.

Surviving are a nephew, Harold Wesner, R.1, Chalmers; and a niece, Gloria Lane of Dearborn, Michigan.

The funeral mass was today at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Richard Miller officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of the arrangements.

Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

James Edward Harlan

1932 - January 1, 2002
James Edward Harlan, 69, of Hadden Heights, N.J., a former Monon resident, died January 1, 2002.

He was born in Scottsville, Ky., in 1932 to Clarence Harlan and Alma Harlan Burns Lawson. He married Maxine Gregory of Richmond, Va., in 1961. She survives.

He was a 1950 graduate of Monon High School where he was on the basketball team. He graduated from Randolph-Macon University in 1958.

He served in the U. S. Army as a medic during the Korean Conflict.

He received many awards and trophies for playing fast-pitch softball and was inducted into the Softball Fast-Pitch Hall of Fame in 1996.

Other survivors include sons Eric, Patrick and Michael; a daughter, Valerie; half sisters Mabel Haygood of Monticello and Helen Landrum of Mountain View, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

A brother and an infant sister are deceased.

A memorial service and reception is planned on January 19 at his residence in Hadden Heights, N.J.

Edward "Ray" Harmon

May 20, 1914 - September 24, 2000
Edward "Ray" Harmon, 86, of Buffalo, died Sunday. September 24, 2000 at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare.

He was born May 20, 1914 in Moran to Allison and Martha Michael Harmon.

He was a farmer most of his life, living in the Monon and Buffalo areas.

He also worked at Sears Roebuck & Co. store in Monticello for several years and at Kroger in Monticello for seven years.

He is survived by sons, Keith Harmon and Jerry Harmon, both of Monticello and Jerry Harmon of Lafayette; daughter Janna Shrock of Logansport; 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Wednesday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon.

Burial will be at Buffalo Cemetery.

Memorial may be made to American Cancer Society.
