Herbert F. Harmon

July 1, 1913 - March 15, 1994
Herbert F. Harmon, 80, Chalmers, died Tuesday night, March 15, in the emergency room of Home Hospital, Lafayette.

He was born on July 1, 1913 in Chalmers to Everett M. Harmon and Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Deckard. He married Esther Oilar on November 25, 1937 in Lafayette, and she survives. They lived in the same house where he was born.

He was a 1931 graduate of Brookston High School, and was a member of Brookston High School's 1930 and 1931 sectional championship basketball teams.

He was retired from farming.

He was a member of the Brookston United Methodist Church, and 50-year member of Libanus Masonic Lodge No. 154. He was a former 4-H leader in Round Grove Township, a former member of the Brookston Optimist Club, and a former White County Co-op director. He served 40 years as a Republican Precinct Committeeman in White County. He was a member of the White County Agricultural Association, and helped plan and build the White County 4-H Fair grounds in Reynolds.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Robert of Brookston; a daughter-in-law, Linda of Brookston; and three grandchildren. Tom, Michael and Alaina.

A sister and brother are deceased.

Funeral services were held Friday morning, March 18, in the Brookston United Methodist Church, the Rev. Lore Blinn Gibson officiated. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of the arrangements. Masonic rites were held Thursday night, March 17, at the funeral home.

Burial was in Brookston IOOF Cemetery.

Kenneth C. Harmon

February 18, 1922 - January 29, 1993
Kenneth C. Harmon, 70, Lafayette, died Friday, Jan. 29, at his home. He had been in failing health for the last 2 1/2 years.

He was born Feb. 18, 1922, to Elmer and Marie Conder Harmon, in Brookston. He was married July 4,1941, to Naomi North, in Idaville, and she survives.

He had lived in Lafayette, since 1949.

He was a World War II Army infantry veteran, where he served as a Staff Sergeant in the Rhineland area of Central Europe.

He had been an employee for 42 years, at Ross Gear, in Lafayette and retired in 1982.

He was a member of the Congress Street United Methodist Church, Lafayette.

Surviving with his wife are two sons: Lawrence, Dayton, Ohio, and David, Lafayette; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; one great granddaughter and 12 step-great grandchildren. One brother and sister are deceased. The funeral was Monday in Hartzler Funeral Home, with Rev. Emojean M. Brindel officiating.

Burial was in Brookston IOOF Cemetery.

Thomas Alan Harmon

May 31, 1975 - April 3, 1995
Thomas Alan Harmon, 19, 11193 South 300 West, Brookston, died Monday at 9:40 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, following injuries he sustained in a one-vehicle accident on Sunday morning.

He was born May 31, 1975 in Lafayette to Robert and Linda Hendrickson Harmon.

He graduated from Frontier High School in 1993 and attended St. Joseph College in Rensselaer and Purdue University. He worked at Fairfield Manufacturing in Lafayette since December 1994.

He was a member of the Brookston Federated Church and served as an usher for the church, was a 5-year member of Round Grove 4-H Club, and played basketball and baseball for Frontier while he was in high school.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Michael, a senior at Frontier, a sister, Alain, a freshman at Frontier, and grandmothers, Mrs. Gladys Hendrickson and Mrs. Esther Harmon, both of Brookston. His grandfathers, Al Hendrickson and Herbert Harmon are deceased.

Funeral rites are today at 11 a.m. at Brookston Federated Church with Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating. The body will lie in state an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in IOOF Brookston Cemetery. Hartzler Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials can be made to Brookston Federated Church.

Donald E. Harner

October 8, 1942 - October 25, 1987
Donald E. Harner, 45, formerly of Brookston, died Monday, Oct. 25, at 1:25 p.m., in St Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Lafayette, where he had been a patient since Friday. He lived at R.1, Chalmers.

Mr. Harner was a farmer.

Born Oct. 8, 1942, in Lafayette, he was a 1960 graduate of Brookston High School. He lived at R.1, Brookston, for a number of years before moving to Chalmers. He married Dorothy Jean Trueblood, Aug. 1, 1964 in Brookston. She survives.

Mr. Harner attended Badger Grove Community Baptist Church. He served in the Army from 1960 until 1963, and was a member of Chalmers American Legion Post 268.

Surviving with the widow are a daughter, Penny Harner and two sons, Thomas Harner and Edward Harner, all at home; his parents, Frank and Virginia Harner of Monticello; two brothers, Richard L. Harner of R.5, Monticello and John Harner of Bloomington; and a sister, Mrs. Jack (Sue) Peters of Livermore, California.

Service will be at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Bill Radcliffe officiating. Burial will be in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

Frank E. Harner

March 30, 1919 - March 16, 1993
Frank E. Harner, 73, Lakeland, Florida and formerly of Monticello, died Tuesday, March 16 at his home. He had been seriously ill for the past year.

He was born March 30, 1919 in Brookston, the son of Clint and Ella Eberle Harner. His marriage was to Virginia Jean Redding on November 23, 1939 in Tippecanoe County. She survives.

A retired farmer, he had lived in Monticello since 1977, having farmed in the Brookston area most of his life. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lakeland.

He had attended the Brookston schools, was a member of Libanus Masonic Lodge in Monticello, the White County Shrine Club and the Murat Shrine in Indianapolis.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons; Richard L. of Monticello and John C. of Bloomington. One daughter, Mrs. Jack (Sue) Peters of Monticello. Three sisters, Gladys Eller of El Paso, TX, Wilma Bennett of West Lafayette, and JoAnn Ruemler of Monticello also survive including 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

One son, one brother and one grandchild preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Brookston.

Friends may call at Voorhis Draper Funeral Home from 4-8 tonight. Masonic services will be at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Thomas A. "Tom" Harner

December 8, 1967 - May 22, 1994
Thomas A. "Tom" Harner, 26, Brookston. died at 7:27 p.m. Sun day. May 22. in an accident on Harrison Road between Battle Ground and Ash Grove.

He was born December 8. 1967, in Lafayette to Donald E. and Dorothy Jean Trueblood Harner. He was single.

He was a 1986 graduate of Frontier High School and attended Purdue University for 2 1/2 years.

He had been employed on the assembly line at the Subaru-Isuzu factory near Lafayette for four years.

He attended Badger Grove Community Baptist Church.

Surviving with his mother are one sister, Penny, and one brother, Edward, all of Brookston: his grandmother. Virginia Harner of Lakeland, FL; and several aunts and uncles.

His father, Donald E. Harner, and his grandparents. Roy and Ruth Trueblood and Frank Harner are deceased.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston. Pastor Bob Rawlins officiating.

Burial will be in IOOF Brookston Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Badger Grove Community Baptist Church.

Herschel Hart

[1906?] - December 18, 1995
Herschel Hart, 89, died Monday, Dec. 18, in Heritage Health Care, West Lafayette.

He lived in Bloomington before moving to West Lafayette, four years ago.

He attended the United Methodist Church in Battle Ground.

He was married in 1991, to Irene Orrell, who survives along with a son, Donald of Bicknell.

Burial was in Bloomington.

Francis 'Spud' Haskins

July 9, 1936 - January 27, 2003
Francis "Spud" Nelson Haskins, 66, of Monon died Monday, January 27, 2003, at White County Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Wolcott on July 9, 1936, to Frank Nelson and Helen E. Boone Haskins. He married Thelma J. Smith in South Carolina on March 9, 1993. She survives.

He attended Monon High School and was a lifetime resident of White County.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1962. He was a sergeant with the 305th Bomb Wing.

He was a truck driver and an electrician. He was retired.

He was a member of American Legion Post 81 and AMVETS, both of Monticello, and Monon Eagles Lodge 2788.

Surviving with his wife are sons, Frank William (Leann) Haskins of Winston Salem, N.C, Mark Anthony (Gwen) Haskins and Michael Andrew Haskins, both of Gastonia, N.C., and Rivhard (Debbie) Woodward of Oxford; daughters, Helen Margaret (Dwayne) Hamacher and Catherine Frances (Steve) Buckles, both of Gastonia, N.C., Vikki (Scott) Stearns of Burnettsville, Connie Hutton of Delphi, Kimberly Baker of Monticello; brothers, Harold Haskins of Martinsville, Thomas G. (Bev) Haskins of Wheeler, Daniel W. (Janet) Haskins of Wolcott, Samuel E. (Donna) Haskins of Monon and Larry A. (Debbie) Haskins of Chittengo, N.Y.; a sister, Mary M. (Kenneth) Sheffer of Monon. He had 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A brother, Russell Haskins is deceased.

Funeral services were Monday at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon with Rev. Steve Birch officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Monon Food Pantry.
