Lola Joseph Hensley
September 21, 1910 - May 25, 2000
Lola Joseph Hensley, 89, Star City, died Thursday, May 25, at Jasper Co. Hospital, Rensselaer.
She was born Sept. 21, 1910, to Levi and Sarah Bailey Wireman, in Magoffin County, Kentucky. She was married Dec. 26, 1927, to Clarence Joseph in Jackson, Kentucky. He died Nov. 11, 1981. She then married Green Hensley, March 17, 1984, in Rensselaer and he survives.
She had lived most of her life in the Medaryville and Monon area.
She worked at Bryan Manufacturing, a division of Essex Wire of Monticello, for many years.
She was a member of the Church of God, Star City.
She is survived by her husband, sons, Charles Joseph of Livingston, Texas; Emmett Joseph, Westville; Larry Joseph, Chesterton; Omer Joseph, Headlee and Lonnie Joseph, Buffalo; daughters, Lorretta Bailey, Winamac; Ruby Garbison, Bumettsville; Janet Ferrell, Chesterton and Sharon Jackson, Sawyer, Mich.; 56 grandchildren; 77 great grandchildren and 37 great-great grandchildren.
Two sons, two grandchildren, a great grandchild, four sisters and two brothers are deceased.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home, Francesville, with Pastors James Pruitt and Jess Bailey officiating.
Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery, Medaryville.
Bonnie K. Herget
September 14, 1917 - June 30, 1991
Mrs. Bonnie K. Herget, 73, 512 E. Third St., Brookston, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospital of an apparent heart attack.
She was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Montgomery County, the daughter of Frank and Edna Mitchell McMurray. She graduated from Darlington High School in 1935 and worked as a Ward Clerk at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 17 years, retiring in 1942.
She married Herbert T. Herget, April. 5, 1937, in Coffeen, Ill. He died Dec. 9, 1990.
Surviving are four sons; Joe Herget, St. Cloud, Florida; John T. Herget, Shandon, Calif.; Robert K. Herget and Stephen A. Herget, both of Brookston. and two daughters, Mrs. Rosemary Howard, Ft. Wayne, Ind. and Mrs. Angela Haselton, San Bernardino, Calif.
One brother, Donald McMurray, Crawfordsville, also survives along with 27 grand and 4 great grandchildren. One son, 4 grandchildren, 1 sister and 6 brothers preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, Friday at 2 p.m., with Father David Fosselman officiating. Friends may call at Hartzler Funeral Home, 4:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Herbert T. Herget
November 6, 1913 - December 9, 1990
Herbert T. Herget, 77, 512 E. Third St., Brookston, died Sunday, Dec. 9, in Home Hospital, Lafayette. He was admitted on Dec. 6. He was in failing health for the last several years.
He was born Nov. 6, 1913, in St. Louis, Mo. His foster mother was Anna E. Herget. He was married April 5, 1937, to Bonnie McMurry, in Coffeen, Ill. She survives.
He graduated from Chaminade College in St. Louis and Coyne Electric School in Chicago in 1933. His family moved to Brookston from Lafayette, in 1952.
He worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad for 13 years and retired Sept. 1, 1982, from Duncan Electric in Lafayette, where he was employed for 30 years.
He formerly attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reynolds.
Also surviving are four sons, Joe, St. Cloud, Fla.; John T., Shandon, Calif.; Robert K. and Stephen A. both of Brookston; two daughters, Mrs. Rosemary Howard, Fort Wayne and Mrs. Angela Haselton, San Bernadino, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. A son, Gregory and four grandchildren are deceased.
The funeral was Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.
Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
Zelina 'Sammy' Morehouse Hess
November 17, 1888 - December 10, 1991
Zelina E. "Sammy" Morehouse Hess, 103, Lafayette, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Heritage Health Care, West Lafayette.
She was born Nov. 17, 1888, to Silas A. and Mary M. Rawles Morehouse, in Lafayette.
She attended Hebron School in Lafayette and graduated from Lafayette Business College.
She was a secretary for Lafayette Painters and Decorators, for several years.. She moved to Dallas, Texas, and was an occupational therapist at the Veterans Administration Hospital, there.
In 1965, she returned to Lafayette, and had lived in the Pythian Home. She had been at Heritage Health Care since October 1984.
She was a former 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter, Lafayette.
Survivors include two nieces; Mrs. Kathryn Harmon, Brookston and Mrs. Ralph (Peggy) Klaverenga, Battle Ground; and three nephews, Alan Morehouse, West Lafayette, John P. Erickson, R.2, Brookston and Morris H. Erickson, West Lafayette. Four brothers and five sisters are deceased.
The body will be cremated.
A memorial service will be today at 2 p.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Ralph G. Smith officiating.
Inurnment will be at Grand View Cemetery, West Lafayette.
Lorene F. Edwards Hicks
July 21, 1920 - May 16, 1992
Lorene F. "Rene" Edwards Hicks, 71, R.1, Monticello, and a former resident of Chalmers, died Saturday, May 16, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.
She was born July 21, 1920, in Lafayette. She was married Dec. 23, 1945, to Leslie "Abe" Hicks, in Lafayette, and he died Jan. 22, 1990.
She was retired from the RCA Plant, in Monticello, where she had worked for 17 years.
Surviving are two sons; Leslie Hicks, Jr., Monticello and James Hicks, Chalmers; two daughters; Mrs. Bruce Glass, Oklahoma City, OK. and Mrs. Richard Parker, Monticello; three sisters, Ruby Reynolds, Indianapolis; Lorretta McFarland, Phoenix, AZ. and Elizabeth Wetli, Fowler and two brothers, George Edwards and Quentin Edwards, both of Lafayette. Twelve grandchildren and a great granddaughter, also survive. A brother preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Wednesday in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Loren Schuman officiating.
Interment was in Brookston IOOF Cemetery.
Helen K. Higgins
January 15, 1913 - December 14, 1997
Helen K. Higgins, 84, R.1, Reynolds, died Sunday, Dec. 14, in Home Hospital, Lafayette.
She was born Jan. 15, 1913, to James and Katherine Horan Higgins, in Wolcott. She never married.
She had lived in the Reynolds area all her life and grew up under the care of her aunt Mary Horan and her uncle Jerry Horan.
She was a graduate of Reynolds High School and Indiana University.
She .taught school in Reynolds and the surrounding area for several years and farmed in White County for several years.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She is survived by her friend, Ann Humphrey of Chalmers; and four cousins, Antoinetta Higgins of Roheart Park, Calif., Francis Altman of Chalmers, Ruth Hower of Sarasota, Florida and Wilmer Altman of Ambia.
Her aunt and uncle are deceased.
Funeral services were this morning at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reynolds, with the Rev. Richard E. Miller officiating.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Reynolds.
Memorial contributions may be given to the church.
Audie High
November 4, 1907 - July 9, 1991
Audie High, 83, Rt. 1, Brookston died Tuesday, July 9, at Tioga Pines Retirement Home in Monticello. He had been ill for a year.
He was born November 4, 1907 in Coe, KY and had lived in White County for the past 49 years. He was the son of Ranzie and Vernie Hurd High.
A farmer and factory worker, he was a member of the Church of Christ in Brookston.
He married Mary Pearl Scott on April 20, 1930. She survives along with a son Kenneth High of Reynolds. One sister, Mrs. Ned (Ruby) Sims of Brookston also survives along with 3 grandchildren. A twin brother and a sister preceded him in death.
Services will be at the Church of Christ in Brookston at 2:00 p.m. Friday with Pastors Bill Romans and Bill Miller officiating. Burial will be in Chalmers Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston from 5 to 9 p.m. tonight and at the church 1 hour prior to the services.
Isaac L. High
September 21, 1913 - April 2, 1997
Isaac L. "Ike" High, 83, Chalmers, died Wed., April 2, at 4:34 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Lafayette. He had been ill for three months and had been hospitalized since Thursday.
He was born Sept. 21, 1913, to William E. and Pearl Ruby Cooper High, in Warren County. He was married Oct. 10, 1951, to Marilyn E. Best, in Lafayette, and she survives.
He graduated from Boswell High School in 1931 and attended Purdue University.
He worked at Purdue; first in the Purdue Creamery as a route man and in Quality Control, then at the Purdue Dairy as a herdsman. After 27 years of service he retired in August 1977.
Prior to that he worked in civil service during World War II at Pearl Harbor as a pipefitter.
He was a member of the Ambia Methodist Church.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Martin (Cindy) Denham, Chalmers and Mrs. Rick (Alice) Johnson, Lafayette; two sons, Bruce E., Chalmers and Robert E., Monticello; two sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Alice) Weber and Mrs. Chester (Marjorie) Reprogle, both of Indianapolis; and 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Pastor Bonnie Shoaf officiating.
Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.
