Larry E. Holdcraft

March 1, 1939 - July 14, 1998
Larry E. Holdcraft, 310 N. Walnut St., Monon, died Monday, July 14, 1998, at Comfort Care Retirement Village, Lafayette, following an illness of 10 years.

He was born March 1, 1939 to John and Berta Foster Holdcraft in Lafayette, and had lived in Monon most of his life.

He was married June 14,1959, to Leah Ann Hughes in Monon and she survives.

He was a bookkeeper for Monon Trailer and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Monon, and a former member of the First Baptist Church, Francesville, where he had been a deacon, treasurer and youth church leader. He was a former Boy Scout Leader and had served as a coach for many youth baseball teams.

He graduated in 1957 from Monon High School and attended International Business College in Fort Wayne.

He is survived by a son, Kirk Holdcraft of Thornton, Ill. and a daughter, Kathy Holdcraft Wilkerson, Monon. A brother, Fred Holdcraft of Pine Village also survives along with 3 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, Thursday, July 16, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Steve Birch officiating. Burial will he in Bedford Ceme tery.

Friends may call at Kellogg Funeral Home after 5:00 p.m., Wednesday.

Memorials may be given to Monon First Response or American Diabetes. Association.

John W. Holden

November 5, 1902 - July 9, 1991
John William Holden, 88, Martinsville, died Tuesday, July 9, in Regency Place Nursing Home, Greenwood. He is the father of John W. Holden, Brookston.

Mr. Holden was a farmer, teacher and banker.

He was born Nov. 5, 1902, in Baker Township in Morgan County.

He was a graduate of Indiana State Teachers College.

Also surviving are his wife, the former Naomi Watson and another one, Dr. Robert Holden, Plainfield; 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. A brother, Alonzo Holden and a granddaughter preceded in death.

Visitation will be at Costin Funeral Home, Martinsville, Thursday 4-8 p.m. and Friday, 1 p.m. until service time, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Alvin Wilson and Rev. Emery Parks officiating.

Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Martinsville.

John W. Holden Jr.

September 3, 1929 - September 10, 1997
John W. Holden Jr., 68, 110 Holden Drive, Brookston, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 12:40 p.m. in Home Hospital, Lafayette. He had been transferred to Home Hospital, Tuesday from the Mayo Clinic.

He was born Sept. 3, 1929, to John William Sr. and Naomi Watson Holden, in Brazil. He was married April 5, 1952, to Mary Jo Kirk in Amarillo, Texas, and she survives.

He graduated in 1947, from Rockport High School and in 1951 from Purdue School of Pharmacy.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a pharmacist at an Air Force hospital in Texas.

He moved in 1956, to Brookston, where he was the owner of Holden Pharmacy. He was also a bank director at Norwest Bank in Monticello.

He was a member of the Indiana Pharmaceutical Society and the National Association of Retail Druggists.

He was a former member of the Frontier School Board.

He was a member of Brookston United Methodist Church where he served on the pastor parish committee, financial committee and audited the church books.

He was a member of Kappa Psi fraternity; the Libanus Masonic Lodge 154 in Monticello; the Brookston American Legion Post 251; and a former member of the Brookston Optimist Club.

Surviving with his wife are three sons; John William III of Frankfort, Thomas Kirk of Rossville and Mark Robert of West Lafayette; a daughter, Mary Jean Holden, West Lafayette; a brother, Robert W. Holden, M.D., Indianapolis and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday at 2 p.m. in Brookston United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark T. Kurowaki officiating.

Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge.

Interment was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Memorials may be given to the Leukemia Society.

Betty Monnett Holeman

August 10, 1926 - October 1, 1991
Betty Monnett Holeman, 65, formerly of Chalmers, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Murdock Park, Lafayette, where she had been a patient for the last seven years. She was in failing health for the last year.

She was born Aug. 10, 1926, to lay and Mable Mullendore Monnett, in Delphi. She was married Sept. 16, 1950, to Leonard "Bud" Holeman in Reynolds. He died Aug. 15, 1979.

She lived in Chalmers for 35 years, before moving to the nursing home.

She graduated from Brookston High School in 1944, and was a waitress.

She was a member of Chalmers Community Church.

Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Cathy Newman, Lafayette and Mrs. Tina Coffman, Chalmers; three sisters, Mrs. Cleora Resler, Monticello; Mrs. Nancy Patrick, Hammond and Mary Monnett, Francesville; three brothers, Jerry R. Monnett, England, United Kingdom, Gerald D. Monnett, Francesville and James L: Monnett, Valparaiso.

The funeral was at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, on Saturday, with the Rev. Loren Shuman officiating.

Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.

Carlyn 'Shorty' Holeman

June 21, 1915 - March 1, 1988
Carlyn D. "Shorty" Holeman, 72, Reynolds, died at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in Monticello Community Healthcare Center, where he was admitted Feb. 11. He had been in poor health for three years.

He was born in Lafayette, June 21, 1915, to Orville and Myrtle Lewis Holeman. His marriage was to Vaynetta Grace Matthews, Aug. 28, 1938, in Wolcott. She survives.

He was a 1935 graduate of Reynolds High School. He was a painting contractor and custodian at Frontier Middle School for 10 years, retiring in August 1983.

He was a member of the Reynolds Christian Church.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Margene) Woodall, Indianapolis and Mrs. Gary (Sharon) Nichols, Lafayette; three sons, Carl, Reynolds; Dale, Frankfort and Jim, Brookston; two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Mildred) Mower, Monticello and Mrs. Robert (Arlene) Koebeke, Brookston; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. One brother is deceased.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Hartzler Funeral Home at Brookston with Dean Tanner and the Rev. Loren Shwnan officiating. Friends may call today from 5 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Chalmers Community Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes. Association.

Vaynetta Grace Holeman

May 23, 1916 - January 13, 2000
Vaynetta Grace (Matthews) Holeman, 83, a former Reynolds resident, died Thursday, Jan. 13, at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center. She had resided at the center for several years.

She was born May 23, 1916, to Frank and Myrtle Mason Matthews, in Wayne County, Ill. She was married Aug. 28, 1938, to Carlyn D. "Shorty" Holeman at Wolcott, and he died March 1, 1988.

She was a homemaker and a member of Reynolds Christian Church.

She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Gerald "Margene" Woodall and Mrs. Gary "Sharon" Nichols, both of Indianapolis; sons Carl (Pat) Holeman of Reynolds, Dale Holeman, of Frankfort arid Jim (Lisa) Holeman of Brookston; brothers, Cecil Matthews of Burnettsville and Vaughn Matthews of Buffalo; a half-brother, Virgil Matthews of Battle Ground; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

An infant daughter is deceased.

Funeral services were Sunday at the Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.

Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Frontier Dollars for Scholars or the American Diabetes. Association.

Daniel P. 'Boone' Holladay

February 27, 1912 - April 9, 1993
Daniel P. "Boone" Holladay, 81, Chalmers died Friday, April 9, in Tioga Pines Living Center, Monticello, where he had been a patient since January 5. He had been in failing health the last four months.

He was born Feb. 27, 1912, to William and Rebecca Coffman Holladay, in Headlee. He was married to Dolores "Dee" Wilson, April 22, 1933 in Monticello. She resides in Tioga Pines Living Center.

He lived the last 60 years in Chalmers. He was a Golden Gloves boxer at Lafayette, during the 1930s.

He was a bulk truck driver for the former Sprout & Davis Trucking Co and Standard Oil Co. at Brookston. He retired from Purdue, in 1973, where he worked in the agronomy laboratory and library.

He was member of the former Chalmers Baptist Church and a 53-year member of the Lafayette Eagles Lodge No. 347.

Surviving are two daughters; Mrs. Chuck (Shirley) Bossung, Chalmers and Mrs. Robert (Sharon) Lawson, Hoffman Estates, Ill.; a son, Cyril, Lafayette; a sister, Zelda Danner, Hoffman Estates, Ill.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two brothers and four sisters are deceased.

The funeral was Monday in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.

Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.

Virgil S. 'Pete' Holladay

March 18, 1909 - August 1, 1992
Virgil S. "Pete" Holladay, 83,111 Webster Road, New Haven, formerly of R.2, Delphi, died Saturday, Aug. 1, at his home.

He was born March 18, 1909, to William A. and Rebecca Coffman Holladay, in White County. He was married June 19, 1927, to Myrtle A. Miller, in Niles, Mich. She died Feb. 20, 1992.

He was employed by Purina Mills, Lafayette, for 30 years before retiring in 1972.

He was a lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge, Lafayette.

Survivors include a son, Paul "Doc" West Lafayette; a daughter, Joyce Brillingham, New Haven; a sister, Zelda Danner, Estero, Fla., a brother, Daniel P. Halladay, Chalmers; seven grandchildren; and six great grand children. A daughter is deceased.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday, at 10 a.m. in Soller-Baker Funeral Home, Lafayette, the Rev. Harold "Tex" Rusell officiating.

Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lafayette.
