Larry L. Hoover

April 14, 1941 - September 30, 2002
Larry L. Hoover, 61, of Reynolds died suddenly at 7:40 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2002 in White County Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 14, 1941 in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of Arthur L. and Dorothy Schoetker Hoover of Monon. He married Phyllis Vieregge on August 26, 1961 in Reynolds. She survives.

A Reynolds businessman, Larry and his wife owned & operated the Frosty Freeze Drive-in and Hoover's Surf Serve Mart in Reynolds for several years.

He was a lifelong White County resident and graduated from Monon High School in 1959 and attended Indiana University in Bloomington.

He is survived by his wife, father Arthur, two daughters, Missy Lowry of Reynolds and Cindy (Scott) Griffin of Monon a brother Bill (Donna) Hoover of Lafayette; two sisters, Lois (Harold) Jones, of Leesburg, Ind., and Debbie (Charles) Jennings of Lafayette and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were this morning at St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds with Pastor Charles Blakey officiating. Burial was in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Reynolds. Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon was in charge of the services.

Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or Reynolds Little League Baseball Park.

Fanny I. Hornback

August 4, 1920 - July 14, 1999
Fanny Isabelle Hornback, 78, of Monon, died Wednesday, July 14, at 11 p.m. in Monticello Healthcare Center.

She was born Aug. 4, 1920, to Delos and Millie Walters Pass, in Rensselaer. She was married August 1938, to James Willard Hornback, in Illinois, and he died March 24, 1980.

She was a homemaker and had owned and operated Fanny's Restaurant in Monon, for three years.

She was a resident of Monon most of her life and was a member of the Monon Community Church.

She had served as a volunteer with the White County Mental Health Association and was a past member of the Monon Rebecca Lodge.

She is survived by two sons; James Jr. of Mesa, Arizona and David of Monon three daughters, Jeannie Hively of Corydon, May Lou Rutledge of Delphi and Cindy Rutledge of Eugene, Oregon; three brothers, Clarence Pass of Hebron, Calvin Pass, Rensselaer and Harvey Pass, Logansport; two sisters, Esther Hudgens, Phoenix and Dosia Thoem of Henning. Minn.; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Six brothers, five sisters and a daughter are deceased

Funeral services were Saturday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. Donald Newman officiating.

Burial will be at Johnson Cemetery, Reynolds.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

James Garland Horn

November 8, 1928 - April 22, 1993
James Garland Horn, 64, of Leesburg, Florida and formerly of Wolcott and Monticello, died Thursday, April 22 in a Florida hospital.

He was born in Glendale, KY., or November 8, 1928.

He was a disabled U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He moved with his family to White county near Wolcott in 1942.

He lived in Monticello for several years and was employed at the former RCA factory until he left the company with a disability. He moved to Florida in 1983.

He was a member of the Baptist Church and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2231 at Monticello.

Surviving are two brothers, Lovell of Leesburg and Alvester of Nebraska; a sister, Velma Nichols of Monticello and his twin sister Nancy Gardiner of Brookston.

No visitation or memorial services were planned and Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors of Tavares, Florida was in charge of cremation.

Burial was in a Florida cemetery.

Jeanette L. Horn

January 19, 1928 - March 9, 2001
Jeanette L. Reeves Horn, 73, Monon, died Friday, March 9, at 11 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. She had been ill eight months.

She was born Jan. 19, 1928, to Claude and Millie Ringelson Reeves, in Rensselaer. She was married May 14,1950, to Paul E. Horn, in Rensselaer, and he survives.

She was graduated in 1945 from Rensselaer High School. She was a homemaker and lived most of her life in the Monon community.

She was a member of the former Lee United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Wolcott.

Surviving with her husband are three daughters, Nancy Alexander of Greenfield, Paula Grahl of Ft. Myers, Florida and Judy Walters of Wolcott; a sister, Evelyn Barngrover of Francesville; seven grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Mathew Puckut officiating.

Burial will be at Osborne Cemetery, Rensselaer.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes. Foundation.

Anne H. Horton

June 6, 1985 - June 28, 2002
Anne Harrington Horton, 17, of Monon died Friday, June 28, 2002 in White County Memorial Hospital following an automobile accident.

She was born June 6, 1985, in Lafayette to Richard G. and Margaret Moore Horton.

She was a junior at North White High School, where she was involved in National Honor Society, Sunshine Society, Yearbook Staff, Spanish Club, and the track and cross-country teams.

She lived in the community all her life, and attended First Presbyterian Church in Monticello.

She worked at the Indiana Beach Skyroom during summers. Her hobbies included playing the piano, drawing and painting.

Surviving are her parents, of Monon; brother Samuel M. Horton of Indianapolis; sister Sarah M. Horton of Indianapolis; and paternal grandmother, Marilyn H. Horton of Monon.

Funeral Services were Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Monticello, with Rev. Bruce Hurley officiating. Kellogg Funeral Home was in charge of the service.

Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian (C.I.A.) youth group, or the White County Community Foundation Anne H. Horton Fund.

Jasper Junior Houston

March 29, 1920 - January 9, 2000
Jasper Junior Houston died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000 at a hospital in Houston, Texas.

He was born March 29, 1920 in Jasper County to Jasper and Ella Nora Houston.

He had lived in St. Cloud, Florida, the last 20 years.

He retired from the Steel Mills in Gary, Indiana.

He is survived by sons, Lewis Jasper and David Houston and a daughter, Janet Houston.

Four brothers and six sisters are deceased.

Funeral services were held at Klein Funeral Home in Texas, Tuesday, January 11th.

Burial was in St. Cloud, Florida. Graveside service was held there Friday, January 14th.

Louise Houston

October 11, 1917 - October 4, 1998
Louise Houston, 80, of 504 Holly St.. Monon died at 12:41 p.m. on Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette.

She was born October 11, 1917 in Jasper County the daughter of Bryan and Mary Pullins Odom.

Her marriage was to Raymond Houston on June 6, 1936 in Rensselaer.

She had lived in Monon for the past 20 years, coming from Francesville, Indiana.

She was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church, O.E.S. #310, Medaryville for over 50 years, and Gilliam Ladies Aid.

Surviving besides her husband are four daughters: Mrs. Ralph (Pat) Wendt; Mrs. Larry (Mary Alice) Halsema and Mrs. John (Linda) Runk all of Lafayette and Brenda Krug of Monon. She had 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

A sister, Georgia Utterback of Roanoke, IN and two brothers, Charles Odom of Estero, Fl and Max Odom of Francesville also survive.

Funeral services were at the Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville this morning with burial in the Roseland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monon United Methodist Church or the Monon Monon Township Public Library.

Fred Howat

June 11, 1921 - September 12, 1998
Fred Howat, 77, of Francesville died Saturday, September 12 at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville.

He was born June 11, 1921 in Francesville, the son of William and Winifred Engle Howat. He was married to Carol Getz on December 23, 1940 in Francesville and she survives.

A farmer and welder at NIPSCO, he had lived in Francesville all his life. He retired from NIPSCO after 18 years.

He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church, American Legion Jesse Engle Post 228, in Francesville, Winamac VFW, the Steel Workers Union.

Surviving besides his wife is one daughter, Becky Berger of Franklin, Indiana, two sons Tony Howat of North Judson and Dennis (Bim) Howat of Bedford, Indiana. One brother Frank Howat of Elwood also survives along with 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. One sister and 2 brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were at the Apostolic Christian Church on Tuesday with the Church Minister officiating. Burial was in Resealed Cemetery.

Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home was in charge.

Memorials may be made to Parkview Haven Retirement Home or Ducks Unlimited.
