Vera Pearl Hughes

Vera Pearl Bums Hughes, 87, Monticello, died Thursday, March 9, at Home Hospital, Lafayette. She had been in ill health for two years.
She was born Feb. 28, 1913, to Earl and Alice Maud Hinshaw Bums, in Monticello. She married Robert L. Hughes and he died March 17, 1972.
She lived in Monticello all her life. She was a homemaker and later worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Bougher and Dr. Beck.
She was a member of Tri-Kappa Sorority, Eastern Star, Monticello Artists Association, the Garden Club and the White Co. Historical Society.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Susan (Jeff) Smithburn, Indianapolis and Mrs. Mary (John) Briney of Monon; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sunday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, with the Rev. James Cobb officiating.
Burial was in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery..
Memorials may be given to the White Co. Historical Society, Indianapolis Museum of Art or First Presbyterian Church.
Beatrice E. Munsterman Hunt
August 8, 1921 - October 1, 2001
Beatrice E. Munsterman Hunt, 80, 611 Cherrydale Dr., Monticello, died Monday, October 1, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.
She was born August 8, 1921, to Bert Nathan and Effie Maude Combs Morris, in Jasper County. Her first marriage was to LeRoy "Hap" Munsterman, who is deceased. Her second marriage was to Charles Hunt, who is also deceased.
She lived in Monticello for five years after moving from Largo, Florida. She lived in Monon most of her life and in Indianapolis for some time.
She and her husband farmed for many years. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Monon.
She was active in the Republican Party and the Republican women of White County.
She worked at the Commerce and Transportation Department in Indianapolis and was instrumental in bringing small industry to White County in the 1960s and 70s. She was secretary to Lt. Gov. Robert Orr for three years.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Reynolds.
Surviving are sisters Bernice I. Reynolds of Monticello and Barbara (Larry) Bittner of Indianapolis; a brother Bill W. Morris, Monon and several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Gertrude Gudeman is deceased.
Services were conducted Thursday, October 4, at 11 a.m. in the Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, with the Rev. William Parsons officiating.
Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery, Reynolds.
Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church.
Valerie Victoria James
November 27, 1979 - June 20, 1997
Valerie Victoria James, 17, R.2, Wolcott, died Friday, June 20, at 7 p.m. in White Co. Memorial Hospital. She died of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
She was born Nov. 27, 1979, to Frank and Cathy Gudeman James, in Lafayette.
She lived in Wolcott her entire life, and was a senior at Tri-County High School.
She was active in 4-H as a vice- president of Junior Leaders, a counselor at 4-H Camp Tecumseh and a State Junior Leader Conference Delegate in 1996. She was a member of OK Kids Team for Kids Against Drugs.
She was awarded the State Achievement Award and the 4-H Congress National Scholarship trip to Memphis in 1996.
She was an accomplished seamstress having placed in the Top 15 every year she was eligible at the Indiana State Fair Dress Revue and bad been awarded the 4-H Dress Revue/Clothing Scholarship.
She was a 4-H State Congress winner. She was a speech finalist at the National 4-H Conference and was the local 4-H Club's president in 1997.
She was president of the Tri-County FFA Chapter and of FFA District One. She earned her State FFA Degree this year.
Her Ag Issues team was a National Finalist at the 1996 FFA National Convention in Kansas City. She was an FFA District Winner in Leadership as a Greenhand.
She earned the runner-up award for Star Reporter at the 1997 Indiana State FFA Convention.
She was on the Tri-County girls golf team, receiving the Most Improved Player award in 1995 and the Best Season Average award in 1996.
She was a member of the high school's girls track team for two years and was on a school record-setting 3200-meter relay team.
She was on the yearbook staff, and a member of the Sunshine Society.
She was listed in the 1995-96 edition of "Who's Who Among American High School Students."
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Remington.
Surviving are her parents; a brother, Michael James, at home; grandparents Milt and Barbara Gudeman, Monticello and grandparents Harold and Ruth James, Wolcott.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday at Tri-County High School. The service was officiated by Dr. James W. Blanchard. She was buried at the Wolcott Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Foster Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to a memorial fund established in her name at the Bank of Wolcott for the benefit of the FFA Learning Center in Trafalgar.
Sandra S. Blackwell Kellogg
[1941?] - February 14, 2003
Sandra S. Blackwell Kellogg, 61 of Indianapolis, and formerly of Muncie, died Friday, February 14, 2003 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Indianapolis, grew up in Muncie, attended Muncie Central High School, and lived in Muncie until 1973, when her husband rejoined the Army and they lived in various locations in the United States until moving to Indianapolis in July after his retirement.
Surviving are her husband, Jack Kellogg; two sons, Dwight Kellogg, Ashville, N.C. and Curtis (Suzanne) Kellogg, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma; two daughters, Sharon Schaertl, Shortsville, New York and Jacquelyn Kellogg, Canandaigua, New York; and four grandchildren, Amber, Bryan, Bethany and Anthony, all of Shortsville, New York.
Her father, Earl Blackwell; her mother, Betty Grover; two brothers, Joseph Earl and Jan David Blackwell; and a sister Sharon Blackwell preceded her in death.
Services are at 1:30 this afternoon in The Meeks Mortuary Chapel with burial in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Kenneth Dale Hunt
January 31, 1928 - August 17, 1989
Kenneth Dale Hunt, 63, R.2, Brookston' (Tecumseh Bend) died Thursday, Aug. 17, at 11:10 a.m. at his residence.
He was born Jan. 31, 1928, to Luther and Vivian Hicks Hunt, in White County. He was married Nov. 11, 1944, to Freeda Scott, in Delphi, who survives.
He was an employee of Public Service Indiana for 34 years, retiring as a foreman on Feb. 1, 1988. He was a former member of the Indiana National Guard.
Surviving with his wife and mother, Vivian Hunt, Delphi, are four daughters, Carol Anne Daniels, Delphi, Teri Lee Funk, Normal, Ill., Sheri Lyn Minnicus, Attica, and Robin Dale Flanagan, Monticello; one brother Larry, Delphi; five grandchildren and four step-granddaughters. A son, sister and brother are deceased.
The funeral was Monday in Horn Funeral Home at 11 a.m., with Rev. William Breidenbaugh officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Cemetery
at Delphi.
Robert E. Hunt
April 11, 1936 - January 25, 1988
Robert E. Hunt, 51, R.2, Monticello, died Jan. 25, in St Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Lafayette, where he had been a patient four days. He had been ill for the last 15 months.
He was born in Carroll County, April 11, 1936 to Luther and Vivian Hicks Hunt. His marriage in Delphi, Sept. 28, 1958 was to Janice Measels, who survives.
He was a member of the Sheet Metal Local at Lafayette for 18 years, retiring in Oct. 1988 due to poor health.
He was an Army veteran and member of the Delphi Wesleyan Church.
Surviving with his wife are two brothers, Kenneth "Dale," of R.2, Brookston; Larry, Delphi; and his mother, Vivian Hunt, Delphi. His father and one sister are deceased.
The funeral was Wednesday in the Horn Funeral Home at Delphi, with the Rev. William Breidenbaugh officiating.
Burial was in Morning Heights Cemetery
at Delphi.
Bernard R. 'Boots' Hurst
June 30, 1923 - August 27, 1995
Bernard R. "Boots" Hurst, 72, formerly of Brookston, died Sunday, Aug. 27, at 5:27 a.m. at Home Hospital, Lafayette. He had been in failing health for two months.
He was born June 30, 1923, to Garrett Allen and Laura E. Brooks Hurst, in Badger Grove.
He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Badger Grove Community Baptist Church.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign.
Surviving are three daughters, Beverly Robinson, Lafayette; Mrs. Stephen (Marie) Ward, Terre Haute and Mrs. Charles (Cheryl) VanVoorst, Reynolds; a son, Jerry, Brookston, two sisters, Mrs. William (Bertha) Brown and Edith Flynn, both of Monticello and seven grandchildren.
A brother, Frank Edward and two infant granddaughters are deceased.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Brother Floyd Deel officiating.
Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
Memorials may be given to Bernard Hurst Memorial for Regency Place.
Mary K. Hutchinson
September 11, 1931 - August 8, 1998
Mary Katherine Hutchinson, 66, of Buffalo, died at noon Saturday, Aug. 8, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 11, 1931, to Alonzo and Mary Anne Stevens Horsley in Cincinnati. She was married in 1948 to Lawrence A. Hutchinson, in Kentucky. He is deceased.
She was a homemaker and had resided in Buffalo for eight years.
She is survived by three daughters, Wanda Kennedy of Gary; Rita Hutchinson of Hammond and Joanne Steffek of Griffith; a son William J. of Buffalo; two sisters, Venice Williams and Carol Kenneda, both of Ohio, two brothers, James Horsley and Othello Horsley both of Ohio; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A brother and two sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were Saturday, in Cincinnati.
Memorial donations may be given to the Winamac Hospice Program.
Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
