Ruth Madden

VINCENNES - Ruth Cecelia (Snyder) Madden, 93, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at her home.

Surviving are three daughters, Virginia Scheid, Roberta Neighbors and Mabel Riester; two sisters, Orphis Frey and Audrey Corrie; and 15 grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. EST Saturday at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, burial pending. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Lincoln Trail Hospice.

Ruth Potter

WINS-LOW - Ruth Potter, 94, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Oakland City, Ind. She was born Aug. 23, 1907, in Winslow, Ind.

She was a homemaker. She spent most of her life near Winslow, Ind., in the Muren community. She was a member of the Muren Church of God. She enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Kathryn Klipsch of Winslow, Helen Harmon of Oakland City and Donna Frances Stinson of Evansville; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Potter, in 1976; a daughter, Dorothy June Clark, in 1989; 2 grandchildren, Thomas Klipsch, in 1995 and Lucinda Smith, in 1951; her parents, William and Ellen (Miller) Withers; and brothers and sisters, Frances Cato, Muriel Maxey, Helen Fisher, Caroline Nolan, and Bruce, James "Jack", and Raymond Withers.

Services will be at 2 p.m. CST Thursday at Muren Church of God, with burial in Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. CST today at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City and from noon to service time Thursday at the church, Rev. William Cochren officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Paul Simpson

BIRDSEYE - Paul A. Simpson, 74, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Deaconess St. Joseph Hospital in Huntingburg.

He had been a salesman.

Surviving are his wife, Della K.; a son, Paul W.; two stepsons, Mike and Steven Ritchie; five sisters, Esther Robert, Joan Martin, Joanie Crouch, Ruth Shipp and Elsie Dye; two grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Thursday at Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg, burial in Birdseye Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today.

Infant Thomas Stone

VINCENNES - Thomas Aaron Stone, 5-month, 26- day-old son of Jimmy A. and LeAnna J. Stone, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Also surviving are two sisters, Jamilea and Casey Stone; grandparents, Janie Fortner and Charles and Darlene Riker and Maria Serrano.

Graveside services will be at 10:15 a.m. EST on Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. at Gardener-Brockman Funeral Home.

Thelma Warren

BOONVILLE - Thelma Eulene Warren, 92, of Central City, Ky., died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Belle Meade in Greenville, Ky. She had been a cook at Central City High School.

Surviving are two sons, Clarence and Ray; two sisters, Nadine Eades and Ethel Brown; two brothers, Clevender and Freeman Wiggins; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, Ky., burial in Rose Hill Cemetery there.

Friends may call after 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Julia Welch

VINCENNES - Julia F. Welch, 92, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

She was a physical education teacher for more than 30 years.

There are no immediate survivors.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield. There will be no visitation at Goodwin Family Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vincennes University Foundation.

Bessie Carter

Bessie Nell Carter was born October, 11, 1927, in Fredonia, Ky., to the late Henry and Lola Jackson Wilson. She departed this life Feb. 9, 2002, at 9:34 p.m. at Deaconess Hospital.

She had worked in the Dietary department at the McCurdy Hotel. She was a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memories, 4 sons, Samuel III and John Carter, both of Evansville, and James and Tony Carter, both of Las Vegas; seven daughters, Genavie Cabell of Fort Wayne, Ind., Pauletta Jones of Boonville, Ind., Peggy Rankin of Las Vegas and Pauline Johnson, Brenda Carter, Bonetta Jones and Tina Howard, all of Evansville; a sister, Ida Mae Carter of Evansville; 37 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and cousins.

Services are Friday at noon at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, the Rev. W.R. Brown Jr. officiating.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel.

Larry Craig

Larry Allen Craig, 51, of Evansville, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at his residence. Surviving are two sons, Ryan and Carey; his mother, Wilma Craig; a sister; Judy Mullen; two brothers, Kenny and Bill; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to service time.

Mary Demont

Mary A. Demont, 56, of Evansville, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Surviving are two sons, Gregory A. and Andrew R. IV; a sister, Dorothy Opdyke; a brother, Jack Downey; and two grandchildren.

Services are pending at Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel. There will be no visitation.

Irene Dupont

Irene (Betty Kellems) Dupont, 72, of Evansville, died February 10, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center.

She was born August 24, 1929.

Irene was a retired addressagraph operator for the Baby Shop for over 25 years. She was co-owner, vice president and bookkeeper of Dupont's Sunoco, a well-known service station in Evansville for many years.

Survivors are her husband of 42 years, Johnnie Dupont of Evansville; a daughter, Sue Meredith of Evansville; a son, Gus Boyken of Evansville; a stepdaughter, Dianna Brown of Owensville, Ind.; a stepson, Rickie Dupont of Evansville; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Emma Shaffer of Evansville and Dorothy Gould of Enterprise, Ala.; and two brothers, John R. Kellems of Watseka, Ill., and Terrell N. Kellems of Warren, Mich.

Services are Thursday at 10 a.m. at Alexander East Chapel, Dr. R.R. Schwambach officiating, burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel.

Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The American Diabetes. Association or the American Cancer Society.

Margie Howell

Margie (Thomas) Howell, 99, of Bardstown, Ky., died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Flaget Hospital in Bardstown.

Surviving are a daughter, Helen Murphy; three sons, Edwin, John and Thomas; and 17 grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by Arch L. Heady & Son in Louisville, Ky., burial in Highland Memory Gardens in Mount Washington, Ky.

Memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Widows and Orphans Home.
