Lyle LeMar Mowrey
January 17, 1924 - March 13, 1997
Lyle LeMar Mowrey, 73, McCordsville, Ind., died March 13th in Community North Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born Jan. 17, 1924, in Whitley County, the son of Lloyd 0. and Blanche E. Flickinger Mowrey. He was married Feb. 22, 1940, to Lenore O. Wigent, in the Oak Grove Church of God and she survives.
He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. After his discharge, he spent time in Lafayette, Bloomington, Lawrence, New Albany, Kentucky and Indianapolis areas.
He had served as an educator and administrator his entire career. He graduated from Coesse High School in 1942, and attended Purdue, receiving his B.A. degree. He received his Masters Degree from Butler and his Doctorate from Indiana University.
Surviving besides his wife, is a daughter, Mrs. Timothy (Kathleen A.) Schultz of Brookston; a son Cris Alan (Jean) Mowrey of Wilmington, N.C.; a brother Robert Mowrey of Columbia City, Ind.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Thursday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home in Columbia City. The funeral service will be at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 13, at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Dr. Thomas M. Douglas and Rev. Hubert Miller.
Burial will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Columbia City.
A public graveside service will be held Friday, March. 14, at 4 p.m.
Helen M. Mroz
[1912?] - January 21, 2003
Helen Marie (Macnak) Mroz, 90, a longtime resident of East Chicago, died Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare. She had resided at the center for three years.
Survivors include daughter, Carol (Joseph) Algozine of Bolingbrook, Ill., and Connie (Louie) Perz of Monon; a son, Thomas, Jr., of Hammond; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Her husband Thomas Sr. is deceased.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at St. Stanislaus Church, East Chicago. Huber's Funeral Home in East Chicago was in charge.
Burial was at St. John Cemetery, in Hammond.
Charles B. Murphy
May 29, 1904 - February 4, 1991
Charles Beckman Murphy, 80, Brookston, died unexpectedly, Monday, Feb. 4, in Indianapolis. He was born May 29, 1904, to Charles J. and Margaret Beckman Murphy, in Brookston. He was married June 17, 1950, to Margaret Nesbitt, in West Lafayette. She survives.
He was a life member of Sigma Chi fraternity and a member of Lafayette Rotary Club, Lafayette Country Club, University Club of Chicago and Libanus Masonic Lodge No. 154 of Monticello, from which he was given a 50-year pin. He was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.
He retired from Purdue, as professor emeritus of history in May, 1970. He began teaching in 1927, at Purdue.
He was awarded the Sigma Delta Chi best teacher medallion in May 1940. Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Awards were named after him, in 1989.
The funeral was today at 11a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, the Rev. Duncan Mac Nab officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
Barbara K. Murray
April 30, 1933 - October 24, 2000
Barbara K. "Barb" Murray, 67, of Logansport, formerly of Monticello died Tuesday, October 24, 2000 at her residence. She had lived in Logansport for 10 years, prior to that she lived in the Monticello community.
She was born April 30, 1933 in Logansport to Elbert and Hazel Morgan Hare. She was married on December 6, 1953 to Thomas Paul Murray. He died January 25, 1983.
She graduated from Monticello High School in 1951.
She was a former English and Spanish teacher at Monon and taught Physical education in Wolcott.
She is survived by a daughter Jennifer (Chuck) Chapman of Monticello: sons, Paul K. Murray of Valparaiso and Jeffy T. (Ai) Murray of Logansport; twin sister Virginia Quade of Logansport, and grandchildren Zachary, Jill, and Zebulon Murray and Michelle and Hollie Chapman.
A brother Gordon Hare, is deceased.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. this morning at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello with Pastor Brent Oliver officiating. Burial will be a Chapel Cemetery, Monon.
Dorothy Jean Murray
December 25, 1928 - January 25, 1989
Dorothy Jean Beaver Murray, 60, R.1, Brookston, died Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 10:22 a.m. in Home Hospital; Lafayette. She had been a patient there since Saturday.
Mrs. Murray formerly worked at a sewing factory in Lebanon, Ky.
She was born Dec. 25, 1928, in Lebanon, Ky., and had lived in the Brookston area for 30 years. She She was married Jan. 14, 1947 to James L Murray in Lebanon. He survives.
Mrs. Murray was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Reynolds.
Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Phyllis Diane) Walkins, R.1, Brookston and Mrs. Kevin (Kathy) Cavanaugh, Lafayette; two sons, James L. Murray Jr., West Lafayette and Joseph Darrell Murray, R.1, Brookston and a sister, Mrs. Helen Rogers, Also surviving are 11 grandchildren. A sister preceded in death.
Service was Saturday at 11 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Father Robert Fosselman officiating.
Interment was IOOF Cemetery
in Brookston.
Ronald G. Musser
July 29, 1944 - January 24, 1994
Ronald G. Musser, 49, Reynolds, died Monday, Jan. 24, at the scene of a one-car accident at county road 375N, east of U.S. 421.
He was born July 29, 1944, to James Wilbur and Oberon Copas Musser. His mother lives in Reynolds. His first marriage was to Patricia Bauhach who lives in Wolcott. His second marriage was June 10, 1991, to Eileen Cavanaugh, in Kentucky and she resides in Reynolds.
He was a lifelong resident in White County and graduated from Wolcott High School.
He was a partner at Intersection Auto Sales in Reynolds.
He was a member of the Reynolds Christian Church and the Monticello Moose Lodge.
Also surviving are two daughters; Mrs. Mike (Shari) Ricks, Francesville and Lisa Musser, Wolcott; two sons; Randall and Bryan, both of Wolcott; three stepdaughters, April Cavanaugh, Lafayette; Torrie Cavanaugh, Reynolds and Shannon Kenny, Reynolds; a brother, Jim of Oregon, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Eric (Barb) Culver of Chalmers; one granddaughter and two step-grandchildren.
The funeral was today at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, with Rev. Richard M. McQuinn officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Riverview Cemetery.
Merle E. Musson
January 30, 1928 - August 6, 1997
Merle E. Musson 69, West Lafayette, died Wednesday, August 6, at 6:05 a.m. in Home Hospital, Lafayette.
He was born Jan. 30, 1928, to Warren Earl and Mary Magdalene Palmer Musson, in Oakwood Township in Vermilion County, Illinois. He was married June 5, 1949, to Fern Ivadean Nelson in Montmorenci, and she survives.
Since 1941, he had lived in the West Lafayette area.
He was a 1946 graduate of Oakwood Township High School.
He worked for Ross Gear TRW in Lafayette for several years and also was a retired carpenter.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army, from October 1948, to February 1948, in C BTRY 13th PA EN, military Police.
He was a member of the Battle Ground United Methodist Church and Battle Ground Lions Club.
He also was a member of the Tippecanoe County Church Dart Ball League.
Surviving with his wife, is a brother, Warren Henry, Champaign, Ill.; three sisters, Wilma Osborn, Pekin, Ill; Anna Mae Capener, Baraboo, Wis.; Mary Jane Danner, Ogden, Ill. and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A brother and sister are deceased.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 9, at Battle Ground United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lewis Ruman officiating.
Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston was in charge of the service.
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
Memorials may be given to the Battle Ground United Methodist Church.
Beulah Imogene Mutchler
August 5, 1907 - February 29, 1988
Beulah Imogene Mutchler, 80, Linton, Ind., died Monday, Feb. 29, at her home. She had been in failing health for sometime.
Born Aug. 5, 1907 in Midland, Ind., she was the daughter of William F and Cora Smith Brown. Her marriage was Aug. 5,1931 to Victor Mutchier. He died March 11, 1980.
A retired school teacher, she had taught in Brookston, Brazil, Bicknell, Sullivan school systems. She was a member of the Saron United Church of God in Linton; Saron Women's Guild, 50 year member of the Brookston Mother's Club; Psi Iota Xi Sorority of Brookston; Chi Omega Sorority at Indiana State University; I.S.U. Teachers' Assoc.; she had attended Vincennes University and Ind. State Teachers College.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Jean Kramer, Linton and one son Gary V. Mutchier, of Houston, Texas. Other survivors include four sisters: Mary Johnson and Leona Steward, Linton; Lois McConnell, Carlisle, IN. and Marjorie Davidson of Tipp City, Ohio; and four grandchildren; Jo Ellen and Kevin Kramer, Linton and Christopher and Bradford Mutchler, Houston, Texas.
One brother and one sister preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Chapel in Linton at 1 p.m., Friday with Rev. George Perry officiating. Burial will be in FairView Cemetery
in Linton.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. prior to the service on Friday.
Beulah Nairn
July 15, 1916 - January 15, 2002
Beulah Nairn, 85, of Albuquerque, NM died Tuesday, January 15, 2002 in Albuquerque Hospital after suffering a stroke.
She was born, July 15, 1916 in Wolcott, the daughter of Otis and Marie Heims.
Her husband, John Nairn and her brother Arthur Heims preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn (Larry) Hinkle of Albuquerque, a brother Hillis Heims of Monon, and four grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at the Central Seventh Day Adventist Church in Albuquerque.
