Tommy Lee Neal
January 5, 1928 - March 31, 1999
Tommy Lee Neal, 71, of LaPorte, the brother of a Chalmers resident, died Wednesday, March 31, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 5, 1928, in Monticello, to Byron and Lucille Gallinger Neal. He was married Nov. 8, 1948, to Alyce Lea Wolf in St. Joseph, Mich. and she survives.
He was a graduate of Chalmers High School.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Japan.
He worked at the Indiana State Prison as superintendent of farms, retiring in 1992 after having worked there since 1948.
He was a member of Bible Baptist Church of Michigan City.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Marilyn Durham of Fort Wayne and Cindy Sturgis of Evansville; three sons, Mark of Kentwood, Mich. and Andy and Rick, both of Michigan City; a brother, Wallace of Chalmers and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral service was conducted Saturday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte with the Rev. David Angus officiating.
Burial was in Carmel Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Baptist Bible Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
Bruce C. Needham
October 3, 1951 - February 27, 2002
Bruce C. Needham, 50, of 619-3 Alabama St., Lafayette, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 11:25 p.m. in his residence. He had been in ill health the past three years.
Born October 3, 1951, in Lafayette, he lived in Lafayette most of his life, but lived for a time in New York and Florida.
He married Verna M. Hayes, May 18, 1988, in Sanibel Island, Florida. She survives.
Mr. Needham was a landscaper for Koehler Bros. He was a member of Christian Reformed Church in Lafayette. He enjoyed puzzles and antique car shows.
Surviving with his wife are two stepsons, David Blount (wife Sharon) Monticello and Timmy Blount (wife Gina) Monon, and a sister, Brenda Kauffman (husband Hugh) Lafayette.
Katharine Neel

Katharine Klepinger Neel, of 1124 Booling Ave., Norfolk, VA., a former Brookston resident, died Tuesday afternoon in Norfolk.
She was a retired school teacher and had taught in the Brookston and Norfolk school systems.
She was born in Brookston and graduated from Brookston High School in 1925. She was also a graduate of Indiana University.
She was a member of Monticello Order of Eastern Star, Crystal Chapter 165; and a former member of Brookston Federated Church. She was a prominent worker in Norfolk Republican Club.
Her marriage was to Harold M. Neel, who survives.
Also surviving are a brother, John F. Klepinger, Delphi; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Lois Stratton, Clayton, Ind.
Graveside service was Monday at 11 a.m. in Masonic Cemetery, Delphi, with the Rev. Ellis K Gasser officiating. The Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston was in charge.
Catherine Neihouser
October 23, 1907 - January 3, 2001
Catherine Elizabeth Neihouser, 93, of Francesville, Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital at Winamac.
The daughter of John and Mary (Pelsy) Wuethrich, she was born October 23, 1907 at Roanoke, Ill., and resided in Francesville area the past ninety.
She married Pierre Neihouser on January 1, 1933 in Francesville. He died in July 1992.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church for 79 years.
Surviving are seven children; Perry (Sally) Neihouser of Francesville, Yvonne (Carl) Gutwein of Monon, Andre (Lois) Neihouser of Francesville, Renee (Walter) Sinn of Haviland, OH, Marie (Akito) Inoue of Tokyo, Japan, Marcelle (Ron) Gress of Carmel, and Sharon Neihouser of Francesville.
Two brothers, John and Leon Wuethrich, both of Francesville and five sisters; Minerva Wuethrich and Marie Heinold, both of Francesville, Bernice Houk of Flossmore, IL, Nancy Klopfenstein and Leo and Margorie Hess of Valparaiso.
She had 21 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild.
Two brothers, one sister one grandson and one granddaughter preceded her in death.
Funeral services were at the Apostolic Christian Church with ministers of the church officiating. Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home was in charge.
Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.
Alice Lucille Fisher [Nelson]
March 5, 1919 - February 10, 2003
Alice Lucille Fisher Nelson, 83, formerly of Chalmers and Lafayette died February 10, 2003 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, Kapaa, Hawaii.
She was born March 5, 1919, to Elwood and Sirelda Fisher.
She was a 1937 graduate of Chalmers High School.
She was store manager at Pic'n Save and was retired.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane (Leland) Stone of Kapaa, Hawaii; grandchildren, Michael (Rosalind) May and Karen May both of Kapaa, Hawaii; and a great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held in Kapaa, Hawaii.
Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston was in charge of arrangements.
Catherine Nelson

Catherine Nelson, 95, formerly of 407 Ferry St., Lafayette, died Monday, Feb. 7, at 10:30 p.m. in Murdock Manor, where she had been a resident, since May 1992.
She was born Dec. 26, to Joseph S. and Nellie May Shigley Nelson, in Prairie Township in White County.
She graduated in 1916, from the former Brookston Academy and in 1934, from the University of Illinois. In 1937, she earned a library science degree and in 1934 was named to Phi Beta Kappa.
From 1937-40 she was a librarian at Butler University, Indianapolis, and from 1940 until 1966, she was a librarian at Ohio University at Athens, Ohio. In 1981, she moved to Crawfordsville and in Sept. 1989, to Lafayette.
She was a member of Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church, Crawfordsville, and attended the Central Presbyterian Church, Lafayette. She was a former member of Lafayette YWCA and member of the American Library Association, the American Association of University Women and Tippecanoe Co. Historical Association.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Hubert (Josephine) Young, Lafayette and several nieces and nephews. Three sisters and two brothers are deceased.
The funeral will be conducted Friday, at 2 p.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Wallace I. McDonald officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in IOOF Brookston Cemetery.
Geneva Nelson
December 22, 1924 - September 2, 1989
Geneva Gray Hiner Nelson, 84, 1819 Vinton St., Lafayette, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at her residence. She had been in failing health the past two years. Mrs. Nelson had been a beautician at J.C. Penney Co. in Lafayette for 19 years.
She was a member of Brookston United Methodist Church and Ladies Auxiliary of: VFW.
She was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Louisville, Ky., and graduated from Brookston High School in 1943. Her first marriage was to Gayle Hiner, Oct. 29, 1973. He died March 23, 1976. She was married in 1977 to Robert Nelson who survives.
Also surviving are three brothers, Laymon Gray, Brookston; Lenard Gray, South Bend and Lester Gray, R.5, Monticello, and two sisters, Mrs. Leo (Pauline) McKay, Lafayette and Mrs. Clyde (Lorraine) Martin, Americus. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and one sister.
Service was Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Brother Floyd Deel officiating.
Interment was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
Glenn Newbold
June 24, 1906 - May 7, 1991
Glenn Newbold, 84, Monon, died Tuesday, May 7, at 2:40 a.m. in Home Hospital, Lafayette. He had been ill for two weeks.
He was born June 24, 1906, to Thomas and Martha Graves Newbold. in Buffalo. He was married Oct. 27, 1934, to Lucille Williams, in Plymouth. She died Dec. 31, 1984.
He lived most of his life in the Monon community and was a 1922 graduate from Monon High School. He was the senior partner in the Newbold and Son Oldsmobile automobile dealership. He had been an Oldsmobile dealer in Monon, since 1948. Previously, he owned and operated a garage at the same location.
He was a member of the North White School Board, for 12 years and a past president of the board, also.
He was a member of the former Monon Presbyterian Church and attended the Monon United Methodist Church. He was a member of the former Bradford Masonic Lodge, Monon Lions Club and Monon Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include a son, Glenn Edward Newbold Jr., Monon; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Judy) Buman, Lafayette and Mrs. Martha Coffman, Franklin; a sister, Maude MacFatridge, Winamac; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A brother is deceased.
The funeral was today at 11 a.m. in Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, the Rev. John Bell officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes. Foundation or Monon Town and Township Public Library.
Gordon V. Nice
September 5, 1922 - December 8, 1986
Gordon V. Nice, 65, died unexpectedly Sunday morning in his home at 500 Mills St., Brookston. Mr. Nice was employed at Ross Gear Division of TRW in Lafayette for 37 years retiring in 1979. He also operated a lawncare service here and was a volunteer driver for the Brookston community van.
Born Sept. 5, 1922, in Tippecanoe Co., he moved to Brookston in 1971 from West Lafayette. He was a 1941 graduate of Battle Ground High School. His marriage to Beryl J. Renick was Oct. 29, 1945, in Lafayette.
Mr. Nice was a member of Brookston Federated Church.
Surviving with the widow are his mother; Mrs. Ruby Nice, Brookston; a brother, Keith E Nice, Largo, Florida; and a sister, Mrs. Ira (Marjorie) Qualls, Brookston.
Two grandchildren and one step-granddaughter, also survive. Two sons are deceased.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Brookston Federated Church with Rev. Jim Walter officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston was in charge of the services.
Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
