William Ralph Norwood

William Ralph Norwood, 71, of Lafayette, friend of local residents died Friday, September 21, 2001 at his home.
He was born in Hammond on December 25, 1929, to Ollie Claude and Dora Belle Nix Norwood. He married Edith Aline Kirby in Hammond on September 8, 1950. She survives.
He worked as a construction superintendent and project manager.
He was a member of the East Tipp Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Ralph Norwood of Lafayette; four daughters, Connie L. Hall of Battle Ground, Jacqueline K. Diaz of Battle Ground, Kirby C. Norwood, of Lafayette, and Rebecca B. Holladay, Of Battle Ground; two brothers, O. Lee Norwood of Tampa, FL and Paul A. Norwood, of West Lafayette, two sisters; M. Marlene Hirtzer of Port Charlotte, FL. And Arlene N. Dunn of Salt Lake City, UT. Eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston on Tuesday.
The body was donated to anatomical study.
Memorials may be made to the East Tipp Baptist Church or American Cancer Society.
Benny R. Nugent
December 10, 1922 - September 20, 2001
Benny Robert Nugent, 78, a resident of the Indiana Veterans Home, died Thursday, September 20, 2001, at his home. He had been a resident there since June 22, 2000.
He was born in Lafayette on December 10, 1922 to Jerry and Ruth I. Pierce Nugent.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during WWII as a Seaman First Class from Oct. 27, 1942 to Dec. 22, 1945, in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign.
He was a heavy machine operator with the Tippecanoe County Highway and retired in 1984.
He was a member of VFW Post 1154 of Lafayette and West Lafayette American Legion Post 492.
He is survived by three sons, Steve (Patty) Treece of Port Saint Lucie, FL, Jeffery (Mary) Nugent of Paragon and Robert Wayne Nugent of West Lafayette; Five daughters, Christina Brooks of Attica, Jacqueline (Delton) Keener of Logansport, Barbara (Gary) Gray of West Lafayette. LaDonna (Dennis) Metz of Cross City, FL, and Karen Nugent of West Lafayette; two sisters, Betty Jessie of Lafayette and Geneva Nugent of West Lafayette; 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Two sons, a daughter, two grandchildren, a brother Harold Nugent, and a sister Thelma German, are deceased.
Funeral Services were Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Pastor Throster B. Thordarson officiating.
Burial with military rites by West Lafayette American Legion Post 492 was at Liberty Chapel Cemetery.
Geneva Ohman
November 7, 1921 - March 20, 1993
Geneva Ohman, 71, Wolcott, died Saturday, March 20, in the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, where she had been a patient since February 24th.
She was born Nov. 7,1921, to Edward and Gayna Klatt Young, in Goodland. She was married to John Ohman, in 1950, and he died in 1963.
She was retired from the Better Coil plant in Goodland, and also had worked in various restaurants in the Wolcott community and for White Co. Crisis Center.
For several years she lived in Monon, and was a graduate of Monon High School. In 1947, she moved to Wolcott.
She was a member of the Wolcott United Methodist Church, Alpha Circle of the church and the Revelation Club of the church.
She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club in Wolcott, the Bicycle Club in Wolcott and the Long Center in Lafayette.
Surviving are a son, John Ohman, Pontiac, Ill., a daughter, Mrs. Lisa Chaenoweth, Burleson, - Texas; a sister, Mrs. Mildred McGee, Lafayette; a brother, Harold Young, Monticello; 10 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
The funeral was Wednesday, at Foster Funeral Home, Wolcott, with Rev. Gene Ansell officiating.
Burial was in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Reynolds.
Garry Lee Oilar
September 18, 1939 - December 7, 2002
Garry Lee Oilar, 63, of Brookston, died Saturday, December 7, 2002, at his residence.
He was born September 18, 1939, in Lafayette, to Benjamin W. and Dorothy Klepinger Oilar. He married Anneliese Jeager on May 16, 1968 in San Antonio, Texas. She survives.
He was a 1957 graduate of Brookston, High School.
He retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1978. He was a 20-year veteran, who served from 1958-78 and retired with the rank of sergeant major.
He was a member of Brookston Federated Church, where he was a trustee.
He was a member of American Legion Post #492, West Lafayette.
Surviving with his wife are brothers, Larry (Sue) Oilar and Michael (Sherry) Oilar, both of Brookston.
An infant sister and a stepson, Manfred Mueller (1996), are deceased.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds officiating.
Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brookston, where a detachment from Scott Air Force Base in St. Louis will conduct military rites.
Memorials may be made to Brookston Federated Church.
Carlitos D. Alfaro Orellana
February 8, 2001 - February 8, 2001
Infant Carlitos Daniel Alfaro Orellana died at birth on Thursday, February 8, 2001 at White County Memorial Hospital, Monticello.
His parents are Jose Alfaro and Delia Orellana.
He is survived by his father, Jose Alfaro of Monon; his mother Delia Orellana de Alfaro of Monon; brothers Yaki Viadimiro Alfaro, Wilber Jeovani Alfaro Orellana and Jose Jonaton Alfaro Orellana, all at home in Monon; a sister Diana Carolina Alfaro Orellana, at home in Monon.
Graveside services were Friday at Riverview IOOF Cemetery, Monticello.
Miller-Roscka Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Goldie G. Orr
October 23, 1910 - October 14, 1995
Goldie G. Orr, 84, 205 E. Fisher St., Monticello, died Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2:11 p.m. in White Co. Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 23, 1910, to Charles A. and Cleveland O. Stephenson Wilson, in Lafayette. She was married April 14, 1930, to Elmer M. Orr, in Fowler, and he died Jan. 9, 1988.
She lived most of her life in White and Benton counties. She and her husband farmed for several years. Since 1983, she lived in Monticello, coming from Chalmers.
She was a member of the Twin Lakes Senior Citizens Center and the Frontier Senior Citizens Club.
Surviving are three daughters, Dorthea Mae Pozorski, Rapid City, S.D.; Flora Alice Graves, Lafayette and Carol Ann Orr, Monticello; a brother, Carl Wilson, Otterbein; a sister, Edna Shumate, Monticello and 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A granddaughter, two brothers and two sisters are deceased.
The funeral was Wednesday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Brown officiating.
Burial will be in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes. Association.
Howard E. Osborne
September 8, 1922 - April 26, 1988
Howard E. Osborne, 65, a retired employee of General Telephone, died unexpectedly at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Home Hospital. He lived at 810 Brackney St., Brookston.
Mr. Osborne was a cable splicer, first with Bell Telephone for four years, then at General Telephone for many years before retiring.
He was born Sept. 8, 1922 in East Moline, Ill., and had lived in Brookston since 1980, moving here from Valparaiso, where he lived most of his life.
He was married to N. Christine Ford, March 16, 1948 in East Moline. She formerly was a cashier for Eisner's and a licensed practical nurse doing private duty nursing in Lafayette.
Mr. Osborne attended the Pentecostal Church of God. He formerly was volunteer fireman in Greencastle and Liberty Township in the Valparaiso area and was a member of the Civil Defense in Valparaiso.
He served as a gun captain aboard the U.S.S. Cowwanesque during World War II.
Surviving with the wife are two brothers, Donald E. Osborne, East Moline and Stanton E. Osborne, Murphys, California; and two sisters, Mrs. Lela Mae Pompa, East Moline and Mrs. Laverne (Donna Rae) Murphy, Kewanee, Illinois. One grandchild survives, also. A son, Howard 'Butch' Osborne died June 17, 1969.
Friends may call at Hippensteel Funeral Home, 5 to 8 p.m. this evening. Service will be 10 a.m. Friday in Hippensteel Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Hill officiating.
Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.
L. Myrle Oilar Overley
October 10, 1906 - October 1991
L. Myrle Oilar Overley, 85, formerly of Brookston, died in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. She had been a resident of Heritage Healthcare, Lafayette, since 1984.
She was [born] Oct. 10, 1906, to Asa Eugene and Daisy may Ward Oilar, in Tippecanoe Co. She was married Feb. 20, 1932, to Ralph W. Overley, who died Dec. 24, 1976.
She moved from Battle Ground to Brookston in 1984.
She had been an employee of Brown Rubber Co. at Lafayette, Purdue and Indiana Veterans Home, both at West Lafayette.
Surviving are three sisters, Bessie Hague, Brookston; Lela Sewell, Kokomo; and Pauline Jewett, New Milford, Conn.; and two brothers, Warren "Jack" Oilar, Brookston, and Eugene "Jiggs" Oilar, Chalmers. One brother and four sisters are deceased.
The funeral was Monday, in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Ralph Smith officiating.
Burial was in Isley Cemetery, Tippecanoe County.
