Keith W. Pfeil

August 4, 1932 - December 24, 2002
Keith W. Pfeil, 70, of Monticello died Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at Home Hospital Hospice.

He was born in Hammond on August 4, 1932, to Muriel A. and Myrtle Hasselbring Pfeil. He married Ruth L. Heins in Oahu, Hawaii on April 11, 1959. She survives.

He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and served as a naval pilot.

He was a 1950 graduate of Hammond High School. He graduated from Purdue University in 1954 with a BS degree in chemical engineering.

He was a chemical engineer with Union Carbide of Boundbrook, NJ for four years. After moving to Monticello in 1984, he was a chemical engineer with Alloy Rods of Monticello, and retired after 20 years of service.

He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Reynolds.

Other survivors include a daughter, Karren Pass of Lafayette; a son, Kirk Pfeil of Noblesville; a sister, Dee Certa of Black Mountain, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

A brother is deceased.

Funeral services were Saturday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with Pastor Charles Blakey officiating.

Burial was in Hughes Cemetery, Monticello.

Mary E. Pinkston

July 13, 1933 - February 1, 2002
Mary E. Clawson Pinkston, 68, of Lafayette, the sister of local residents, died Friday, February 1, 2002.

She was born July 13, 1933 in Waverly. She married Robert J. Pinkston on May 25, 1949. He died on November 18, 1978.

She was employed as a laser operator at Central Lab for 13 years.

Local survivors include a brother, Robert Clawson of Monticello; and a sister, Betty Jean Hensley of Brookston.

Hippensteel Funeral Home, Lafayette was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

I.D. "Bob" Pior

unknown - September 17, 1998
I.D. "Bob" Pior, 87, of Whitewater, Wisconsin, died Sept. 17th. He owned and operated the Pior Five & Dime Store in Monon, from the late 40's to the early 50's before moving to Wisconsin.

Surviving are his wife Margaret Anstett Pior and four children. Ann (Bill) Frey, Fort Atkinson, WI.; Joan Pior, Las Vegas, NV.; George (Nicolette) Pior, Littleton, CO; Mary Beth (Bob) Pidcock, Las Vegas, NV.

He is also survived by four grandchildren: Michell Frey Hellenbrand, Nicole Frey, Ann Younk Jacobs, David Younk and great grandson Tyler Jacobs.

Two sisters, two brothers and a grandson, Bill Frey Jr. predeceased him. Issue: 10/7/98

Christine Poindexter

February 28, 1914 - December 25, 1994
Christine Poindexter, 80, Wolcott, died Sunday, Dec. 25, at 11:15 a.m., soon after attending church in Brookston.

She was born Feb. 28, 1914, to William P. and Savanna Woods, Vernon, Ky. She was married April 5, 1931, to Tim S. Poindexter, who died in 1988.

She attended school in Vernon, Ky. She assisted her son in operating Jim's Gift Shop in Wolcott. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Brookston.

Surviving are four sons, James, Tim L. and Bob, all of Wolcott, and Dick of Lafayette; two daughters, Joyce Bausch, West Lafayette and Carolyn Burrell, Chalmers; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Maud Hamilton, Celina, Tenn., Mary Short, Indianapolis and Evelyn Horton, Brookston.

The funeral was Wednesday in Foster Funeral Home, Wolcott, with Rev. Bill Romans officiating.

Burial was in Meadow Lake Cemetery.

Lester 'Les' Pollock

September 23, 1932 - April 4, 1999
Lester Leroy "Les" Pollock, 66, who lived on Lake Shafer, died Sunday, April 4, in White County Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 23, 1932, to Vern and Emma Vaughn Pollock, in Valparaiso.

he won the Soap Box Derby in Valparaiso in 1947. He was a 1952 graduate of Valparaiso High School. He attended Junior College at New Mexico Western and Pueblo Junior College at Pueblo, Colo. At Pueblo Junior College, he was a Junior College All-American choice. He was a basketball player and captain from 1960-62 for North Texas State in Denton, Texas.

In 1962, he was given a fellowship at North Texas State to coach and work on his master's degree. In 1964, he received his second degree. In 1964, he was added to the faculty as assistant coach, which he served for three years. In 1967, he was hired as coach for the West Texas basketball team. This team went to the N.I.T.

He retired from coaching and moved to Monticello five years ago.

He worked with his brother, Ron, in Monon.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Monon.

He is survived by a son, Don of Cassopolis, Mich.; a brother, Ron "Bud" of Monon; four nieces; three nephews; and two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday (today) at Bartholomew Funeral Home, Valparaiso, with Rev. Gene Tanner officiating.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association.

Buehl Edmond Ponsler

June 17, 1911 - January 24, 2003
Buehl Edmond Ponsler, 91, of Twin Lakes Village, Monticello died Friday, January 24, 2003 at his residence.

He was born at Cicero on June 17, 1911 to Clarence and Leota Pearl (Pickard) Ponsler. His marriage was to Rachel Roena Austin. She died in April 1978.

He retired from Lee Way Motor Freight in 1969, where he had been a driver for more than 20 years. He bad also worked for the railroad and Guidelamp in Anderson. At the age of 16, he helped build the road from Ind. 421 and 18 into Frankfort.

He attended the Christian Church in Cicero.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 886 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

He and a friend built a 1927 Ford racecar for the Indianapolis 500. He was the owner of an old Indian motorcycle and two micro-midget racecars. He enjoyed fishing and racing motorcycles and cars.

Survivors include daughters Leota Mae (Robert) Roush of Monon, Susan Wagner of McAlester, Okla., and Mary Jane (Greg) Wallace of Allen, Texas; sons Clarence R. Ponsler of Albers, Ill., and Buehl W. (Marian) Ponsler, Jr. of Monticello; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Brothers, Robert Ponsler, Billy Ponsler and Delbert Ponsler; and a son, Robert Lee Ponsler are deceased.

A graveside service was Tuesday at Cicero Cemetery at Cicero with Rev. Bruce Hurley officiating. Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home was in charge.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Deacons Fund in Monticello.

Robert D. Pool

September 23, 1935 - March 23, 1992
Robert D. Pool, 56, Rt. 4, Monticello, died Monday, March 23, at White Co. Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for one year and seriously ill for three months.

He was born Sept. 23, 1935, to Morris H. and Gladys 0. Martin Pool, in Dana. He was married Aug. 18, 1957, to Mary Jo Heiny in Monticello, and she survives.

He was a 1953 graduate of Monticello High School.

He lived in Monticello, since 1961, and also had lived in the Monon and Wolcott communities.

He served in the Monticello National Guard unit.

He owned and operated Pool Excavating Co. for the last 34 years and was on the company's bowling team for all 34 years.

He was a member of Monticello United Methodist Church and served on various church committees. He was a member and past master of Libanus Masonic Ledge No. 154 of Monticello. He was also member of the Crystal Chapter No. 165 of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Murat Temple of Indianapolis, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite and White Co. Shrine Club. He was a life member of the American Legion and a life member of the Goodfellows. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge.

Other survivors are his mother, of Monon; three sons, Rodney A. and Bradley S., both of Monticello and Patrick N., Burnettsville; two daughters, Gina Jo and Mrs. Jeff (Jill A.) Guingrich, both of Monticello; eight grandchildren; and a brother, James M.,. Monon.

Funeral will be today at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Michael Brown and the Rev. Donald Johnson officiating. Voorhis-Draper Funeral was in charge of the service.

Burial will be in IOOF Riverview Cemetery.

Eleanor F. Carter Post

April 18, 1911 - September 30, 1995
Eleanor F. Carter Post, 84, formerly of Brookston, died Saturday, Sept. 30 at Heritage Healthcare, West Lafayette.

She was born in Clinton County on April 18, 1911 to Wilmer Glen and Bertha Agnes Hill Carter. She married Roy N. Post on June 25, 1935 in Lafayette. He died November 5, 1980.

She moved to Brookston from Tippecanoe County in 1962 and lived there until moving to Heritage Healthcare Center in December 1990.

She and her husband farmed in Tippecanoe County until moving to Brookston.

Surviving are three sons, Robert Post of Brookston, and Jack Post and William Carter both of Battle Creek, MI; two sisters, Kathleen Richards of Tipton and Freda Beighlor of Kalamazoo, MI; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

One sister is deceased.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 3, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, the Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiated.

Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Ruth E. Potts

March 31, 1924 - March 3, 2001
Ruth E. Potts, 76, of Monticello died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Twin Lakes Village. She had been ill for about six months.

She was born on March 31, 1924, in Sheldon, Illinois to Claude E. and Elizabeth Kane Hogel. She married Raymond B. Potts in Lake Village, He is deceased.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary H. Rinehart, of Monticello; two grandsons, Michael (Michelle "Sam") Rinehart and Phillip L. Rinehart, both of Monticello; three grandchildren, Mary R. Rinehart of Walton, Anjanette Marks of Fort Wayne and Karen (James) Frederick of Lexington, Ky.; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Hogel of Meridian, Miss. and Dan Hogel of Illinois, and a sister, Luella Strole of Rensselaer.

Two brothers and a sister are deceased.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Memorial donations may be given to the family.
