Joseph Tieken

Joseph H. Tieken, 73, of Evansville, died Saturday, February 9, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital. Mr. Tieken was a 32-year employee of Bucyrus-Erie before retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and a former member of the St. Henry Society.

He was a baseball fan and enjoyed camping and walking.

Mr. Tieken is survived by his wife of 52 years, Arvetta (Stephenson) Tieken; one daughter, Robin M. Boze; three sons, Richard J., Randall J., and Rodney J. Tieken; two sisters, Doris Dyson and Mary Ann Liggett, all of Evansville; one brother, Francis Tieken of Indianapolis; eleven grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. Tieken, in 1996.

Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, continued at noon Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Rev. David Nunning officiating. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 3 until 8 p.m. today at Pierre Funeral Home, where there will be a memorial service at 6 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Eric Williams

Eric R. Williams, 29, of Evansville, died Sunday, February, 10, 2002, at 1:17 a.m., at Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born April 25, 1972.

Eric was a partner in American Screen Graphics. He formerly worked at Pearl Silk Screening. He was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church and a graduate of Harrison High School.

Survivors are his wife, Teri Williams of Evansville; daughters, Kathryn Williams and Morgan Williams; his mother and stepfather, Sharon and Darrel Meredith; his father and stepmother, T.J. and Gail Williams; brothers, Tommy Williams and Todd Fehd; sisters, Carey Barnhill, Monica Grabert and Ava and Ashley Meredith; 13 nieces and nephews; grandmothers, Mary Williams and Ruby Shoptaugh; and many aunts and uncles.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel, burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday from 1 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at Alexander East Chapel.

Paul Austill

WADESVILLE - Paul Allen Austill, 47, of Wadesville, died Saturday Feb. 9, 2002, at his home.

Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a member of the National Guard.

Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Jamie; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann of Wadesville; his son, Paul Ryan of Wadesville; one sister, Linda Weaver of Plano, Texas; 3 brothers, Jerry Gish and Harvey Austill, both of Evansville, and John Wayne Austill of Panama City, Fla.; and his mother, Evelyn Austill of Plano, Texas.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at 10:15 a.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 1st Ave., continuing at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Father Jay Davidson will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel.

Herbert Bartley

IRELAND - Herbert C. Bartley, 90, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

He retired as owner and operator of the Bartley Farm & Feed Store.

Surviving are two daughters, Esther Kellams and La Verne Simmons; a son, Joe Auffart; two sisters, Ardella Johanneman and Mildred Slate; two brothers, Karl and Ted; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, with a 6 p.m. rosary.

Mayme Jackson

ROCKPORT - Mayme Lee Jackson, 70, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at her home.

She retired from Bacons Department Store.

Surviving are her husband, Glenn; a daughter, Sherri Wilson; three sons, Jeff, David and Tom; a sister, Jean Reynolds; two brothers, James and Kenneth Sampley; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, burial pending. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made the church.

Jim Lauderdale

HUNTINGBURG - Jim Lauderdale, 51, formerly a resident of West Palm Beach, Florida from 1994 to 2001, died at 1:32 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2002, in the emergency room of Deaconess St. Joseph Hospital in Huntingburg from a heart attack.

He was born on July 20, 1950, in Evansville, to Robert Lee and Laura N. (Sunderman) Lauderdale. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Fleck on November 25, 1971, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Huntingburg. He was a retired employee of Prairie Farms. He served as a volunteer fireman and first responder for 18 years and was also a member of the Army National Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Lauderdale of Huntingburg; a son, Eric Lauderdale of Huntingburg; a daughter, Ann Sibrel of Huntingburg; his parents, Robert and Laura Lauderdale of Duff, Ind.; one brother, John Lauderdale of Versailles, Kentucky; two sisters, Janis Hagemeyer of Huntingburg and Joan Buckler of Winchester, Kentucky; and 3 stepgrandchildren.

Funeral services for Jim Lauderdale will be held at 10 a.m. EST Tuesday, February 12, 2002, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg, with burial to follow in the Mayo Cemetery near Duff. The Rev. Nelson Scott will officiate the services.

Friends may call for visitation at Nass & Son Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. EST today.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Marshel Overfield

MOUNT VERNON - Marshel Overfield, 81, died at 10:41 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, serving in the European and Pacific Theaters. He was a member of the Owen Dunn American Legion Post 5 in Mount Vernon and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114 in Evansville. He also was a member of the Arkla Retirees Club and the Mount Vernon Conservation Club. He retired from Arkla Industries in Evansville as a welder and was also a professional photographer in the Tri-State area, and owned and operated D&M Greenhouse in Mount Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 1997; and a granddaughter, Keesha Miller, in 1995.

He is survived by four daughters, Barbara Rickert, Charlet J. Ricketts, Marsha Overfield and Brenda S. Moore, all of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Lorene Brown of Uniontown, Ky., and Ruth York of Mount Vernon, Ind.; six grandchildren, Tammy Pollard, Karla Kueber, Dawn Rickert, Julie Ricketts, Tischa Miller and Elizabeth Moore; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 11, 2002, at Austin Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with burial in Beech Grove Cemetery in Mount Vernon, with military rites.

Eva Strickland

NEW HARMONY - Eva (Probus) Strickland, 85, died Friday, February 8, 2002, at 11:03 a.m. at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by her husband, Don, in 1984; and her parents, Lee and Ina Pearl (Miller) Probus. She was a member of the Stewartsville United Methodist Church and was a longtime treasurer of the church's women's group, the W.S.C.S. She, along with her husband, ran Strickland Oil Field Service for approximately 50 years. They also raised Appaloosa and Quarter horses.

She is survived by three daughters, Donna Creek and Freida Orth, both of New Harmony, and Nancy Hickman of Boonville; six grandchildren, Daniel and Doug Creek and John Orth, all of New Harmony, Pam Carl of Wadesville and Jay Hickman and Julia Chandler, both of Boonville; and 12 great-grandchildren, Damon Carl, Jason Orth, Misty Wilson, Justin Orth, Kim Balder, Lindsay and Trent Creek, Tyler Hickman, Casey Chandler, Cody Chandler, Matthew Creek and Caitlyn Creek; and a great-great-granddaughter, Melissa Wilson.

Services will be private. Burial will be in Bethsaida Cemetery in Stewartsville, the Rev. William Ping officiating.

There will be no visitation at Werry Funeral Home New Harmony Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Stewartsville United Methodist Church or Posey County Humane Society.

Ruby Winkler

DALE - Ruby Lee Winkler, 79, died Saturday, February 9, 2002, at Professional Care Rehabilitation Center in Dale.

She was born March 1, 1922, in Lincoln City, Indiana. Her parents were the late Carrie (Skelton) and Russell R. Huff. Her husband of 59 years, Lloyd W. Winkler, survives. She was a 1939 graduate of Dale High School. She earned a degree in education from Hanover College in 1943, a year after her marriage. She returned to Dale High School as a librarian and teacher of English, Latin, business and physical education. She was an elder and clerk of session in the Dale Presbyterian Church and was active in the Presbyterian Women. She was instrumental in compiling a history of the church. She was a member of the Dale Literary Club, the Dale Bridge Club, Band Boosters and Dale PTA. She and her husband established Holiday Foods, based in Santa Claus, Ind.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Raymond Huff.

Survivors are her husband, Lloyd W. Winkler, of Santa Claus, Ind.; sons, Tom and Russ Winkler, both of Santa Claus; daughters, Trudy Markos of Santa Claus and Ellen Rexing of Dale; sisters, Betty Hehn of Dale and Mary Lou Pritchett of Santa Claus; 13 grandchildren, John, Josh, Sarah and Nathan Winkler, Matthew, Jeremy and Karri Markos, Greg, Andrew and Laura Rexing, Theresa Harney, Rebecca Gasaway and Julie Laswell; five great-grandchildren, Jacob and Abigail Winkler, Zachary Gasaway, Nicholas Markos and Hunter Laswell.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at 2 p.m. CST, at the Dale Presbyterian Church, with burial to follow in the Dale Cemetery. The Rev. Martha Friz-Langer will officiate.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 12, 2002, from 2 till 8 p.m. CST, at the Fuller Funeral Home and Crematory Dale Chapel and on Wednesday, February 13, 2002, from 11 a.m. to service time at the Dale Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Dale Presbyterian Church missions.
