James L. Murray

Sept. 12, 1927 - Oct. 7, 1991
James L. Murray, 64, R.1, Brookston, was dead on arrival Monday, Oct. 7, 5:20, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.

He was born Sept. 12, 1927, to Corbit and Ida Thompson Murray, in Raywick, Ky. He was married Jan. 14, 1947, to Dorothy Jean Beaver, in Lebanon Ky. She died Jan. 25, 1985.

He had been employed by the Green Prairie Fertilizer Co. in Round Grove Township, for 20 years. He also operated the Murray Trucking and Backhoe Service.

He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reynolds.

Surviving are two daughters; Mrs. Larry (Phyllis Diane) Watkins, R.1, Brookston and Mrs. Kevin (Kathy) Cavanaugh, Lafayette; two sons; James L. Jr., West Lafayette and Joseph D., R.l, Brookston; three sisters, Mrs. Ann Bradshaw and Mrs. Goldie Spalding, both of Fern Creek, Ky. and Mrs. Susan Reekes, South Hill,. Virginia; and 11 grandchildren. One sister and one brother are deceased.

The funeral was this morning in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookaton, with the Rev. Ambrose Ziegler officiating.

Burial was in Brookston IOOF Cemetery.

Esther M. Nelson

August 15, 1916 - June 7, 2003
Esther M. Nelson, 86, of Francesville, died Saturday, June 7, 3003 at Rensselaer Care Center, Rensselaer.

She was born at San Pierre on August 15, 1916, to Julius Max and Emma Steinke Howiesen. She married Lawrence L. Nelson at Delphi on December 2, 1934. He survives.

She was a lifetime resident of Francesville.

She was a 1934 graduate of Medaryville High School.

She was a member of the Francesville United Methodist Church, the U.M.W. United Methodist Women, a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star No. 310, Medaryville; the Salem Home Ec. Club, an auxiliary member of the Moose No. 906, Monticello and the Rook Card Club.

Surviving with her husband are a son Keith M. Nelson of Lafayette; two daughters, Carol A. Edwards of Sarasota, Fla., and Susan K. Spear of Monticello; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

Memorials may be made to the Francesville United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.

Theodore (Ted) J. Nichols

August 1, 1927 - October 14, 2000
Theodore (Ted) Nichols, 73, of Brookston died Saturday, October 14, 2000 in St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born August 1, 1927 in Gilboa Township, Benton County, INI the son of Theodore H. and Deltha Trueblood Nichols.

He married Evelyn Doughty September 16, 1951 in Fowler. She died September 2, 1980. He graduated from Fowler High School in 1945.

A farmer and real estate developer, he was the former owner of Butler-Nichols Implement John Deere Dealerships in Rensselaer and DeMotte. He had served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the Brookston United Methodist Church, John Purdue Club, Monticello American Legion Post #81, Moose Lodge #906, Monticello, Eagles Aerie 347, Lafayette and Elks Club #1791 in Watseka, IL.

He is survived by two sons, John (Patty) Nichols, Nobelsville, IN and David (Anita) Nichols of Manhattan, KS and a daughter Nancy (Doug) Dunham, Overland Park, KS and a special friend Carol Ritter of Brookston.

One brother, Leonard Nichols of Otterbein, IN and a sister Alma Nichols of Fowler, IN also survive along with 4 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and I step great grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 19, 2000 at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Pastor Jan Dimick officiating.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brookston.

Memorials may be made to Riley Hospital for Children or CHAPS program at Frontier School Corp.

Eleanor G. Biddle Oilar

June 25, 1913 - January 12, 1989
Eleanor G. Biddle Oilar, 75, Brookston, died Thursday, Jan. 12, at 10:16 in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, where she had been a patient since Monday. She had been in failing health since 1980.

She was born June 25, 1913, to Reason Henry and Frances Dale Watson, in Benton County. She was married Dec. 31, 1939, to Harry F. "Hap" Oilar in Brookston. He survives.

She was a graduate of Brookston High School in 1930.

She had been a bookkeeper for Allen Motor Sales from 1930-47 for G.L. Derharnmer for 10 years and for Farmers State Bank, all at Brookston

She was a member and former treasurer of the Brookston Federated Church, a 42-year member and past president of Psi Iota Xi and a member of Kappa Kappa Sigma at Chalmers and Chapter No. 160 Order of Eastern Star at Monticello.

Surviving with her husband and mother, are one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Ann) George, Indianapolis; three brothers, Albert, Jensen Beach, Florida; Reason, West Lafayette and Robert W., Peru; one sister, Mrs. Max (Mary) Chamberlain, Wolcott; and three grandchildren.

Her father, one infant son and a brother are deceased.

The funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Ralph Smith and the Rev. Duncan MacNab officiating.

Burial was in Brookston IOOF Cemetery.

Warren 'Jack' Oilar

September 7, 1911 - June 12, 2003
Warren Henry 'Jack' Oilar, 91, of Brookston died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at home in Lafayette.

He was born near Battle Ground on September 7, 1911, to Asa Eugene "Doc" and Daisy May Ward Oilar. He married Margaret L. Scrugg in Lafayette on January 3, 1940. She is a retired hairdresser. She survives.

He attended Battle Ground and Klondike schools. He was in the first freshman class at Klondike High School.

He farmed in White and Montgomery counties from 1940-61. He worked at the AMOCO (Standard Oil) Fertilizer plant in Chalmers for 12 years and retired in 1975.

He lived in Brookston since 1987.

He was a member of the Brookston Federated Church.

He was a 4-H Leader for several years in Chalmers. He was an avid euchre player and an IU fan. Surviving are 10 grandchildren whom he loved telling of his memories and relating stories such as taking his Mom in horse and buggy to Lafayette for groceries along a trail by the old Canal and riding the Trolly from Battle Ground to Lafayette.

Other survivors include daughters, Joyce (companion Dwayne Clark) Guard of Crawfordsville and Janet (Joel) Hall of Lafayette; son, Jack R. (Sharon) Oilar of Chalmers a brother Eugene "Jiggs" (Fern) Oilar of Chalmers; sisters Pauline Jewett of New Milford, Conn., and Bessie Hague of Delphi; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Six sisters and a brother are deceased.

Funeral services were Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds officiating.

Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.

Memorials may be made to the Brookston Federated Church or St. Elizabeth Hospice of Lafayette.

Doris A. (Scott) Oldfield

July 29, 1924 - September 15, 2002
Doris A. (Scott) Oldfield, 78, of Anderson and formerly of White County died Sunday, September 15, 2002, at Community Hospital in Anderson.

She was born in Wolcott on July 29, 1924, to Harvey and Faye Hughes Scott. She married Harold Oldfield in 1930. He died January 6, 1990.

She grew up in the Buffalo area.

After moving to Anderson, she worked at the Guide Lamp Division of General Motors for 30 years and was retired.

She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Anderson.

She was a member of U.A.W. Local 663 of Anderson.

Survivors include daughters, Jan Oldfield of Anderson and Connie (Marshall) McCord of Chesterfield, and a sister Iva Jean (Charles) Halsema of Monticello.

Six brothers, Everett Scott, Raymond Scott, Bob Scott, Clifford Scott, Homer Scott and Glenn Scott, are deceased.

Funeral services were held at the Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, South Chapel in Anderson with Rev. Kenneth King officiating.

Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Anderson.

Henry Lee Overmyer

October 7, 1918 - June 5, 1991
Henry Lee Overmyer, 72, Francesville died Wednesday, June 5, 1991, at 2:25 a.m. in Parkview Haven Retirement Center. He had been in ill health for several years.

He was born October 7, 1918 in Crawfordsville, IN, the son of Earl C. and Mary I. Overmyer. On February 18, 1938 in Francesville, he married Velda V. Wuethrich who survives.

He was the former President of Overmyer Farms, Inc. in Francesville where he had lived all his life. He was also former Sec/Treas. of the Francesville Drain & Tile Co. and past director of the Federal Land Bank.

He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons: Danny Lee Overmyer and Richard Lynn Overmyer both of Francesville and Roger Dean Overmyer of Monon. Two daughters: Mrs. Janet Schrock at Mrs. Mary Schieber, both of Congerville, IL

Two brothers also survive: John W. Overmyer of Bloomingdale, IN and Richard C. Overmyer of Francesville. He had 22 grandchildren and 6great grandchildren. 2 grandchildren preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 8, 1991, at 10:30 a.m. in the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville with Ministers of the church officiating. Burial will be in Roseland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Querry Ulbricht Funeral Home after 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

C. Ed Page

January 31, 1957 - July 5, 1999
C. Ed Page, 42, Brookston. died Monday, July 5, at 10:38 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette.

He was born Jan. 31, 1957, to Calvin and Arlene Plunkett Page. in Lafayette. He was married Aug. 17, 1985, to Marianne Emigh, and she survives

He graduated from Frontier High School in 1976, and had lived in the Brookston and Delphi areas all his life.

He worked in construction and was a member of Union Labor, Local No. 274.

Surviving with his wife are his parents, Calvin and Arlene Plunkett Page of Delphi; a son, Trent Page, Brookston; a daughter. Melissa Page, Brookston; three brothers. Robert and Richard Page, both of Delphi and Michael Page, West Lafayette; two sisters, Rebecca Page, Colfax and Theresa May, Delphi; and grandmother, Fern Plunkett, Delphi.

Funeral service was Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. J.L. Schaffer officiating

Burial was in Pretty Prairie Cemetery near Battle Ground.

Memorials may be given to the donor's favorite charity.
