Vera S. Rogers

January 4, 1904 - January 23, 1889
Vera Scipio Rogers, 85, formerly of R.l, Chalmers, died early Monday, Jan. 23, in Westminster Village, West Lafayette.

She was born Jan. 4, 1904, in Chalmers. She graduated from Tucson High School, Tucson, Arizona and Lafayette Business College. She also attended Indiana University for two years. She formerly lived in Chalmers and Arizona and since 1979 had lived at Westminster Village.

Mrs. Rogers was a member of Chalmers Community Church and honorary member of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority in Chalmers.

She was married Aug. 30, 1926 to George Welch Rogers, in Brookston. He died April 2,1965.

Surviving is a son, Kenneth S. Rogers, Richmond, Va. Also two grandchildren.

Service was today at 11 a.m. in Chalmers Community Church, with the Rev. Loren Shurnan officiating.

Hartzler Funeral Home, in Brookston was in charge of the service.

Interment was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.

Joseph C. Rowe

October 27, 1908 - July 14, 1997
Joseph C. Rowe, 88, formerly of Brookston, died Monday, July 14, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. He had been ill for two years.

He was born Oct. 27, 1908 in Brookston to Norvin Green and Lillie May Humphreys Rowe. He married Gladys Mae Andrew; June 16, 1935, in Monticello, and she died Jan. 28, 1983.

He attended Brookston schools and Lafayette Business College.

He retired from Folletts Bookstore in West Lafayette.

He was a member of the Brookston Federated Church, Libanus Masonic Lodge No. 154, Monticello: the Brookston Masonic Lodge where he was past master and the IOOF Lodge No. 104 and Rebeka Lodge No. 376 where he was past noble grand.

He was a member of the Indiana Postcard Club.

Survivors are two sons, Raymond, Wolcott and Richard, Brookston; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

An infant son and two brothers are deceased.

The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Memorials may be given to the Brookston Federated Church Furnace Fund.

Delbert M. Saberniak

August 27, 1927 - March 3, 1992
Delbert M. "Sam" Saberniak, 64, R.1, Chalmers, died Tuesday, March 3, at his home.

He was born Aug. 27, 1927, to Michael and Sophia Krause Saberniak, in Crown Point. He was married Oct. 7,1950, to Geraldine L. Erb, in Schereville and she survives.

He moved from Crown Point to Chalmers in 1912.

He retired in 1989, from farming.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Reynolds and the Holy Name Society of the church.

Other survivors are a son, Michael, R.1, Chalmers; two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Ann) Provo, Chalmers and Susan, at home; a sister, Mrs. Gale (Esther) Troutwine, Crown Point and three grandchildren.

The funeral mass was Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Reynolds, with Father Robert Fosselman officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of the arrangements.

Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made for masses or for Chalmers Library.

Frank F. Schwartz Sr.

June 3, 1894 - June 1, 1988
Frank F. Schwartz Sr., 93, a retired farmer, died Wednesday, June 1, at 8:50 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Delphi, where he had been a patient since Feb. 18, 1987.

Mr. Schwartz formerly lived at 107 N. Wood Street. He was born June 3, 1894 in Tippecanoe County. He married Della Morgan, Aug. 29, 1916 in Monticello. She survives and is a resident of St. Elizabeth Healthcare.

He was a 72-year member of Brookston IOOF Lodge 164.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Bob Schwartz, Delphi; and five daughters, Mrs. Ruth Robertson, Mrs. Carol Davis and Mrs. Betty Monnett, all of Brookston, Mrs. Bud (Jean) Monnett, Monticello and Mrs. Dave (Jan) Morton, Orlando, Florida. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, Frank Jr., 1 brother, 1 sister.

Service was in Hartzler Chapel, Brookston, Saturday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Maurice Davis officiating Interment was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Rosalie (McDaniel) Schwartz

January 8, 1932 - May 25, 2003
Rosalie (McDaniel) Schwartz, 71, of Delphi, died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Delphi. She had been a resident there since December 6, 2002.

She was born January 8, 1932 in Nancy, Ky., the daughter of Clarence McDaniel and Velvia Burton. She married Robert Schwartz in Delphi, IN on February 28, 1973. He survives.

She had worked at Globe Valve for 30 years, retiring in 1994 and had been a cashier at Dave's IGA for several years.

She was a member of the VFW Post #2231 in Monticello.

Other survivors are a daughter, Debbie (Gary) Hayden of Yeoman, IN., two sons, Donald D. (Janice) Rosenbarger of Rossville, IN and Douglas A. Rosenbarger of Indianapolis; Stepdaughters, Pam (Tom) Ryves of Delphi and Patti (Ken) Wilson of Guymon, 0kla.

Three sisters, Fay Mailloux of Monroe, Washington, Wilma Price of Brookston and Joyce Anderson of Monticello, KY, Five grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Glen and Wayne McDaniel.

Funeral services are Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at Hartzler Funeral Home with Rev. Jan Dimick officiating. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery, Northeast of Brookston.

Memorials may be made to Carroll County Cancer Society.

Harriet June Smith

June 2, 1912 - August 1, 2000
Harriet June Smith, 88, 410 Tioga Rd., a former Monon resident, died Tuesday, August 1, at White Co. Memorial Hospital. She had been in ill health for a year and a resident of Twin Lakes Village since October 1999. She was born June 2, 1912, to George W. and Bessie E. Engle Hansell, in Medaryville. She was married Oct. I8, 1931, to Wilbur L. Smith in Valparaiso. He died August 11, 1992.

She graduated from Medaryville High School.

She was employed at Schumacher Electric, Rensselaer, for several years and also at Medaryville Garment Factory for several years. She was also a seamstress in her home.

She had lived in the Monon community most of her life.

She was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution), Winanac Chapter.

She is survived by daughters, Thelma Haskins, Monon and Kathryn Cochran of Portage; a brother, Grant Hansell, Chandler, Arizona; 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

A son, daughter, five brothers and sister are deceased.

Funeral services were Saturday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with Rev. Steve Birch officiating.

Burial was in White Post Cemetery, Medaryville.

Memorials may be given to the Monon Food Pantry or Monticello CDC.

Walter E. Shiveley

February 4, 1912 - December 16, 1992
Walter E. Shiveley, 80, of 108 S. Midway, Brookston, died at his residence at approximately 3 a.m. Wednesday. He had lived in Brookston since 1933.

He was born in Chalmers on February 4, 1912 to Henry and May Richards Shiveley. He married Alice McFall on January 7, 1933 in Wolcott. She survives along with two sons, Rod Shiveley, Seattle, WA, and Rick Shiveley, Brookston, and one daughter, Mrs. Ramona Wessel, Ridgewood, NJ. Six grandchildren also survive.

He was a 1930 graduate of Brookston High School. He had worked at the Brookston Elevator from 1933-1970. He worked at Green Prairie Elevator from 1970-1977 when he retired.

He was a member of Brookston Federated Church, past member of K of P Lodge, past member of Brookston Optimists where he had served as second president, and he formerly worked with the Brookston Boy Scout Troop.

Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating. Friends may call at Hartzler Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. this evening. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brookston. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Edgar T.Sollars

April 3, 1918 - June 8, 2000
Edgar T. Sollars, 82, of Monticello died Thursday, June 8, 2000 at his residence.

He was born in Potomac, Ill. on April 13, 1918 to John and Minni Knoll Sollars. He married Deloris James in Monticello on January 11, 1946.

He was a 1936 graduate of Idaville High School.

He was an Army veteran and had served in World War II.

He had lived in the Monticello area since the early 1920's. He was a farmer and also was retired from Monticello RCA plant after working 42 years in the Maintenance Department.

He was a member of the Pike Creek Church of the Brethren and the IOOF Lodge of Monticello.

He is survived by his wife, daughters Karena (Bill) Shull of Sugar Grove, Ill., Carolyn "Solly" Sollars of Monticello, daughter Judy (Marvin) Harker of Burnettsville; sisters Elizabeth Wilson and Eunice McCloud both of Monon, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were Monday, June 12, 2000 at Pike Creek Church of the Brethren with Pastor Opal Reiff officiating.

Burial with full military honors was in the IOOF Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Pike Creek Church of the Brethren or to the St. Elizabeth Hospice Program.

MilIer-Roscka Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
