Jennie P. Southard

November 1, 1905 - December 2, 2001
Jennie P. Southard, 96, Colfax, a former Reynolds resident, died Dec. 2 in Colfax.

She was born Nov. 1, 1905, to Solomon and Anna Apgar Strohl in Paxton. She was married Feb. 16, 1934, to Chester Southard in Eaton and he died June 18, 1987.

She graduated in 1923 from Kirklin High School.

She was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women organization. She was also active in the former Perry Township Homemakers Club.

She and her husband lived in Reynolds and ran National Grain Storage from 1960-75 before moving to Colfax. She was a homemaker and also the bookkeeper for National Grain Storage.

Surviving are a daughter, Marilyn (Don) Bowen of Colfax; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Two brothers and three sisters are deceased.

Services were conducted Tuesday at the Colfax United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph Wagner officiating. Miller-Weston Funeral Home, Frankfort, was in charge.

Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort.

Memorials may be given to Colfax United Methodist Church or to the donor's favorite charity.

Nora B. Spear

May 31, 1909 - December 5, 1998
Nora B. Harris Spear, 89, Brookston, died Saturday, Dec. 5, at White Co. Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 31, 1909, to James B. and Nettie Bryner Harris, in Chalmers. Her first marriage was to LeRoy Tully and he died in 1944. Her second marriage was Aug. 28, 1947, to Dellus Spear, in Monticello, and he died Aug. 27, 1980.

She attended Round Grove School.

In 1915, she moved from Chalmers to Stockton, then on May 7, 1992, she moved to Twin Lakes Village.

She was a homemaker and also worked at Bryan Manufacturing in Monticello and at Purdue University.

She was a member of the Brookston Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, John Tully of Columbus, Clarence Tully of Lagro and Frank Spear of Mulberry; five daughters, Leona Johnson of Chalmers; Alice Easley and Frances Rittenhouse both of Monticello; Esther Eskew of Lafayette; and Jinny Palmer of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two step-sons, Willard Spear of Indianapolis and Willis Spear of Monticello; four stepdaughters, Maxine Begley of Monticello; Ruth Emery of LaPorte, Marjorie Tulford of Sandborn and Shirley Spear, Lafayette; two sisters, Florence Austin, Lafayette and Laura Danner of Chalmers; a brother, James W. Harris of Logansport; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

A stepson, brother, sister and two grandchildren are deceased.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Gerald Stevens officiating.

Bunal was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Memorials may be given to the Brookston Church of Christ.

Ronella Lee Bilhymer Spear

May 28, 1933 - February 29, 1992
Ronella Lee Bilhymer Spear, 68, Indianapolis, died Feb. 29, in Community Hospital South, Indianapolis.

She was born May 28, 1933, to Roy and Ruby Raines Bilhymer in Indianapolis. She was married to Hughie W. Spear, who survives.

She was a homemaker and member of the Suburban Baptist Church, Indianapolis.

Other survivors include four sons; Charles R., David W. and Gary A., all of Indianapolis and John E. of Austin; five daughters, Ruby C. Coffey, Carol A. Duncan and Barbara A. Spear, all of Indianapolis; Tina M Hughes, Chalmers and Korina L. Eberle of Attica; three brothers; Ronald Bilhymer, Roger Brown and Bobby Brown, all of Indianapolis; a sister, Rosie Brown, Franklin; and 13 grandchildren. A son is deceased.

The funeral was Wednesday in Wilson-St. Pierre Greenwood Chapel, Greenwood.

Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

Dorothy D. Spinn

January 5, 1912 - November 21, 2000
Dorothy D. Spinn, 88, Reynolds, formerly of Monticello, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, at St. Anthony Healthcare Center, Lafayette. She had been in failing health for two years.

She was born Jan. 5, 1912, to Anthony and Carrie Donley Dehner, in White County. She was married Feb. 23, 1936, to Edward W. Spinn in Reynolds. He died April 28, 1986.

She graduated from Reynolds High School in 1929. She was a 1932 graduate of Marion County General Hospital School of Nursing.

She was a registered nurse and worked at White Co. Memorial Hospital. She was also the White Co. Health Nurse for 22 years and retired in 1986.

She had been a member of St. James Lutheran Church for 64 years.

She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Dewey (Linda Kay) McIlrath of Rossville and Mrs. William (Joann) Armstrong of Lafayette and eight grandchildren.

A brother and two sisters are deceased.

Funeral services were Friday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen E. Koenig officiating.

Burial was in Lutheran Cemetery, Reynolds.

Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church.

Mary Elizabeth Wooldrige Spitz

August 26, 1934 - January 25, 1997
Mary Elizabeth Spitz, 62, Chalmers, died at home, Saturday, Jan. 25th.

She was born Aug. 26, 1934, to Ray and Alma G. Horton Wooldridge, in Plainfield.

She graduated in 1952, from Chalmers High School and also served in the U.S. Air Force.

She had lived in Chicago and in 1971, returned to Chalmers.

She attended Lafayette Business College and Ivy Tech State College, both of Lafayette.

She worked with Kelly Temporary Services, and was last employed at Round Grove Machine in 1995. She was a secretary and bookkeeper.

Survivors include her father, Chalmers; with whom she lived, and two sisters, Beulah Wooldridge and Mrs. Loren (Nancy) Burget, both of Brookston.

A sister and brother are deceased.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating.

Burial will be on a later date at the IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Chalmers Community Church.

Homer Spradlin

unknown - October 4, 2000
Homer Spradlin, 92, of Powell, TN, a former Chalmers resident, died October 4, 2000 at St. Mary's Medical Center, Knoxville, TN.

He first married Violet Gruel. She died on April 14, 1983. He then married Helen Cooper Spradlin and she survives.

He was a member of the Powell United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife; sons Walter Leroy Spradlin of Knoxville, TN and Glenn E. Spradlin of Peoria, IL; stepsons. Robert C. Spradlin. Knoxville, TN; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were at Weaver Funeral Home, Knoxville, TN on October 5th with graveside services at Chalmers Community Cemetery with Pastor Bill Henderson officiating on October 7th. Hartzler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Powell United Methodist Church.

Jennie Lucille Spurgeon

December 15, 1916 - July 18, 2000
Jennie Lucille Spurgeon, 83, Monticello, died Tuesday, July 18, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

She was born Dec. 15, 1916, to Thomas and Bessie Ann Anderson May, in Rensselaer. She was married June 30, 1940, to Raymond Wayne Spurgeon in Wolcott, and he survives.

She graduated in 1935 from the Remington High School.

She was waitress in Gary for 20 years before working at Anderson Windshield Wipers for 12 years. She then worked in the office at Monon Trailer in the Royal Wood Division, for three years.

She was a member of Bethany Evangelical Church in Rensselaer and had attended First Baptist Church and the United Methodist Church in Monon.

She enjoyed collecting antiques.

Surviving with her husband are five sisters-in-law, Alta Hall, Lafayette; Eileen Spurgeon, West Lafayette, Annabelle Jackson, Monon and Mary May, Crown Point and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Willard May, a sister, Marie May and a sister-in-law, Florence Higginbothan, are deceased.

Funeral services were Friday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, with the Rev. Willis Syphers officiating.

Burial was in Memory Gardens, Rensselaer.

Raymond Spurgeon

October 30, 1914 - November 24, 2002
Raymond W. Spurgeon, 88, of West Lafayette, brother of a Monon woman, died Sunday, November 24, 2002 at Home Hospital, Lafayette.

He was born October 30, 1914, in Rensselaer, to Edward F. and Flora Bundy Spurgeon. He married Jennie May in Wolcott on June 30, 1940. She died July 18, 2000.

He was a 1934 graduate of Rensselaer High School. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II with the PT Boats Squadron #RON 26.

He was employed as an inspector at Monon Trailer from 1965-78.

He was a member of the Bethany Evangelical Church, Rensselaer.

He was a member of American Legion Post 81 and PT Boaters, Inc., and had been a member of the Eagles Lodge.

Surviving are sisters Annabelle Jackson of Monon, Alta Hall of Lafayette, Eileen Spurgeon of West Lafayette and Elsie Cadwalder of Merrillville.

A sister Florence Higginbotham, is deceased.

Visitation will be today from 2 — 8 p.m. at Fisher-Vooris-Draper Funeral Home. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial with full military rites will be at Memorial Gardens, Rensselaer.
