Elva Luther Sterrett
February 17, 1901 - June 14, 1997
Elva Luther Sterrett, 96, Brookston, died Saturday, June 14 at 9:15 a.m. in Crestmark of Monticello. He had been a resident there since April 24th.
He was born Feb. 17, 1901, to Sumner J. and Clara McKinley Sterrett in Prairie Township. He was married March 18, 1922, to Ethel M. Oilar, in Battle Ground, and she died Oct. 19, 1988.
He was a lifelong resident of the Chalmers and Brookston communities.
He retired from farming in 1965.
He was a member of the Badger Grove Community Baptist Church, where he was an honorary Deacon of the church.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Dale, Chalmers and James Luther, Brookston; two daughters, Elsie Mae Stimmell, Monon and Daisy Orlena Stoker, Roachdale; and 15 grandchildren, 31 great- grandchildren and four great- great grandchildren.
Seven brothers, a sister and a grandson are deceased.
Funeral services were Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Badger Grove Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ralph McVay officiating.
Arrangements were made by Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.
Burial was in Pretty Prairie Cemetery.

Robert J. Sterrett
November 30, 1934 - November 7, 2000
Robert J. Sterrett, 65, of Lafayette died Tuesday, November 7th at his home. He was born November 30, 1934 in Tippecanoe County the son of Chester and Opal Martin Sterrett. He married Darlene Kuhns in Nashville, Tenn. on June 25, 1979 and she survives.
He retried in 1998 from Rea Magnet Wire Co., in Lafayette and enjoyed golfing, the computer and growing roses.
Surviving besides his wife Darlene are three daughters: Cheryl K. (Andrew) Compliment of Carriere, MS, Lou Ann (Joe) King of Greenwood, IN and Angela M Sterrett Hoffman (Lowell) of Battle Ground, IN.
A stepson, Terry (Arlene) Van Scoyoc of Crawfordsville and a stepdaughter also survive.
He is also survived by 3 brothers: Fred (Janet) Sterrett of Lafayette, Cass (Norma) Sterrett of Battle Ground, Lynn (Sharon) Sterrett of Lafayette and two sisters: Lora (Oris) Anderson of Lafayette and Finetta (Creg) Edgell of Dalesville, IN.
He had 10 grandchildren and one great-grand daughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Opal Sterrett.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, November 11, 2000 at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Pastor Stephen Wilt officiating. Burial was in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.

Alma Sarah Stevens
June 30, 1924 - February 20, 2002
Alma Sarah Hare Moss Stevens, 77, Monticello, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 1:10 a.m. in the Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare.
She was born June 30, 1924, to Walter Watson and Laverne Adeline Benjamin Hare in White County.
She lived in White County all her life.
She was a member of the Pike Creek Church of the Brethren.
She was employed for several years at Bryan Manufacturing Co.
She was a Cub Scout den mother and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, Robert E. Moss of Santa Clara, Calif.; daughter, Anna Marie Moss Hughes of Dandridge, Tenn.; sister Mary Helen LaJune Hare McClellan, Monticello; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A son, Samuel Joe Moss and a brother, Howard DeWayne Hare are deceased.
Services were Friday, at 8 p.m. in the Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello.
Graveside service was held at noon Saturday in the Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Pike Creek Church of the Brethren or a charity of the donor's choice.
Geneva Stewart
July 10, 1912 - May 23, 1997
Geneva Nelson Hollingsworth Fuller Stewart, 84, Lafayette, died Friday, May 23, at 11:18 a.m. in Regency Place, Lafayette.
She was born July 10, 1912, in Young America, Ind., to Roy and Esta Peters Nelson. She was married Dec. 18, 1990, to Carroll Stewart, in Lafayette, and he survives.
Her first marriage was to Max Hollingsworth, and he preceded her in death. Her second marriage was to Oakel Fuller in 1962, and he died in 1979.
She moved from Bookston to Lafayette where she had lived for the past 15 years.
She graduated in 1930 from Young America School and attended Indiana University.
She taught in Cass and Howard counties for 30 years.
She was a member of Prairie Extension Homemakers in Brookston.
She attended Congress Street United Methodist Church, Lafayette.
Surviving are five stepchildren, Mary Ferguson, Martinsville; Judy Bartlett, Lafayette; Maurice Fuller, Monticello; Nancy Grider, Lafayette; Lorna Zaloudek, Lindenhurst, Ill.; Nelson Stewart, Avon and Delbert Stewart, North Carolina; two brothers, Ralph and John Nelson, both of Walton; a sister, Helen Creager, Kalamazoo, Mich.; 18 step grandchildren and 20 step great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted Sun., June 1, at 3 p.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston with the Rev. Dale Ferguson officiating. lnurnment will be at a later date in the Center EUB Cemetery
in Young America.
Arrangements were made by Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.

Ethel M. Stiers
June 10, 1889 - December 8, 1986
Ethel May Lewis Stiers, 97, formerly of Chalmers, died at 5:48 p.m. Sunday in Lafayette Healthcare Center. She had been a resident there since Aug. 1979.
Born June 10, 1889, in Madison, she moved to Chalmers in 1934 coming from Monon.
Mrs. Stiers was a member of Chalmers Community Church and Chalmers Rebekah Lodge.
She married Roy Stiers March 10, 1912, in Monon. He died Sept. 3, 1962.
Surviving are three sons, Bernard P. Stiers, Lafayette, Fredric D. Stiers, Rossville, Ga., and Kenton "Joe" R. Stiers of Lafayette.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. Two sons, 2 sisters and 1 brother preceded in death.
Services were Wednesday at the Chalmers Community Church with Rev. Charles Hirschy officiating. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery, Monticello. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of services.
Edith Elizabeth Stiller
October 15, 1908 - February 18, 1991
Edith Elizabeth Stiller, 82, formerly of Monon, died Monday, Feb. 18, in Milner Community Healthcare, Rossville. She had been ill for eight months and had lived at the health care facility since July 1990.
She was born Oct 15, 1908, to Cary and Kate Wickham Lucy, in White County. She was married Nov. 7, 1927, to Clarence O. Stiller, in Francesville. He died April 12, 1984.
She moved in 1984 to Lafayette from the Monon community, where she lived most of her life. She was a 1925 graduate of Monticello High School.
She and her husband owned and operated the former Conoco gas station in Monon for several years. She was a homemaker and also a bookkeeper. She worked as a bookkeeper for several years at Monon Corporation.
She was a member of Monon United Methodist Church and was a former Sunday school teacher there for several years. She was a former member of Monticello Business & Professional Women Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Eleanor L. Bess, Battle Ground and Beverly Stroup, Windermere, Fla.; a sister, Blanche Overley, Monticello; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren. A daughter and two brothers are deceased.
The funeral was Wednesday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. John Bell officiating.
Burial was in Chapel Cemetery.
Jane Stiller
July 30, 1920 - January 9, 2002
Jane Stiller, 81, of Wolcott, died January 9, 2002, at her residence.
She was born at Rolling Prairie on July 30, 1920, to Myron L. and Gertrude F. Kein Rogers. She married Raymond Stiller in LaPorte on January 26, 1940. He died Aug. 7, 1982.
She was a graduate of Rolling Prairie High School. She attended Purdue University and graduated from St. Joseph College, Rensselaer in 1980.
She had lived in Wolcott since 1963.
She was a homemaker and was director of the Wolcott Public Library for 20 years. She had also worked at the Thayer Ribbon Factory in Wolcott for several years. She was a member of the Wolcott United Methodist Church.
She was a member of the Wolcott Lions Club, the Wolcott Women's Club and the Tuesday Night Gang Club of Wolcott.
Survivors include sons, Roger Stiller of Graham, Wash. And Keith Stiller of Middletown; a brother, Howard Rogers of Edwardsburg, Mich.; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services were at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon with Pastor Jim Childress officiating.
Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.
Memorials may be made to the Wolcott Lions Club or the Wolcott United Methodist Church.
James Riley Stoker
January 11, 1933 - December 3, 1994
James Riley Stoker, 61, of Roachdale, died Saturday, Dec. 3, at 12:30 p.m., in the AMI Culver Union Hospital, Crawfordsville.
He was born Jan. 11, 1933, to Charles and Iva Elmore Stoker, in Chicago, Ill. he was married Nov. 1, 1952, to Daisy Sterrett, in Brookston, and she survives.
He graduated from Brookston High School in 1951. He moved from Tipton to Roachdale, where he resided for 25 years.
He retired after 18 years as an owner of a restaurant in New Ross.
He was a member of the Brookston Federated Church.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Brett Stoker, Tipton; two daughters, Mrs. Dave (Christine) Ardelean, Brownsburg and Mrs. Ron (Sharon) Lambermont, Marshall; a brother, Charles, LaPorte, Texas, and a sister, Mrs. Art (Charlene) Bradshaw, Montgomery, Texas and 10 grandchildren. A brother, Paul, a sister, Dorothy Fry and a son, James Bradley are deceased.
The funeral was Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Jerry Elmore officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Brookston Cemetery.
